Using two computers with single Ipod

I have an IMac G5 which I have my main ITunes library of music on. I also have an IBook that I travel with and occassionally I download a disc of music onto that computer's Itunes. Then I want to download that disc to my Ipod but if I connect to the IBook I will lose everything except what's on the
IBook. Can I manage this in the "manuel mode" and how do I get to the manuel mode on the IBook since I have to plug in the IPod to get to preferences and indoing so would lose everthing! help

"Question: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iPod asks for permission before synchronizing with this music library. If you choose Auto-sync, iPod recognizes the second computer as its home computer and breaks the link with the original computer. If you do not choose Auto-sync, iPod switches to manual update mode, allowing you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod.
Synchronization occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your iPod. This means you cannot transfer music, automatically or manually, from your iPod to a computer, and you cannot use iPod to copy a music library from one computer to another. But, if you legally are allowed to copy music files, you can configure your iPod as a hard disk to move music files."

  • Using two computers with ipod nano

My Son has an Ipod nano and received a gift card for Christmas. He has music on his Ipod from our home computer.
Our home computer has slow internet service so we went to his Dad's work to use the gift card on his computer that has a much faster internet. When my son purchased music from Itunes and put then on his Ipod all the music he had previously on it was gone and he was left with only the new purchase he made. When he got back home he went into Itunes to put his old music on and the new music went away. Is there a way I can get what's on our home computer and what's on his dad's work computer onto his Ipod. Thanks you in advance!!

The short answer is yes, it's possible.
Have him start by getting all of the songs from home on his iPod and then with the iPod still connected go into the edit menu and then click on Preferences at the end of the list, it should come up to the music tab for the connected nano. Change the settings so that the music is managed manually. This will stop iTunes from automatically updating the nano as soon as it's connected.
At this point the home computer should be set, then at the work computer when he attaches the iPod it should come up and show a message box saying something about the fact that the iPod is using a library on another computer and it will ask if you want to transfer to the current computer, say no to that, and then go into the iTunes preferences again and set it to manual just like the home computer.
Once that's all done he'll be able to drag the purchased songs from the work computer's library onto his nano without having any of his existing music go away.

  • Synchronisation two computers with one ipod?!

    Hi @All!
I have two computers (mac and win) and want my itunes songs on both machines. Actually the ipod works with the win computer. How can I get the songs from the ipod to the mac? How can I transfer/sync these songs over the ipod on both systems.
Thanks for any reply and hints.

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.
However, please be aware that Apple does not officially support cross platform use.

  • Using two computers with one Extigy sound c

    Hello:
This is my first post; am wondering if there is a way to plug the Extigy USB input into two computers at the same time, perhaps with a USB sharing device? Has anyone ever tried this? Thanks. Glad to be part of the new community group.

Is it possible to stream audio from two computers (one Mac and one Windows) to a single Airport Express?
Yes, but only one at a time.
Does one take precedence over the other?
No, you would need to determine which computer was streaming music at any given time.

Alternatively can you upload songs from more than one pc to a single ipod without having to erase any existing songs on the ipod?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer (For instance you have one at home and maybe a laptop or PC you use at work) you can change the update preference to "manually manage songs and playlists. By doing this, you can listen to your iPod at work where you may have iTunes but no songs on the computer. You can use as many iPods as you like on a computer, the limit of 5 computers you are referring to is the number of computers that you can have authorised at any one time to play iTMS purchases:

  • Using two computers with my nano

I have a PC at home and a mac book at work. My PC has decided to not open the disk drive to put music onto my nano so I would like to use my mac, however, when I did that I lost all of my music off of my nano that was downloaded from my PC. Can I keep my music on my nano and download new music from my mac? If so, how?

Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

  • Synchronize two computers with one iPod

Is there a way to synchronize my iPod with 2 computers, so that my music us up-to-date on both?

You would have to install the music on both computers. If you sync your ipod with a second computer the ipod will ask if you want to use the ipod with this computer, if you say yes, it will remove all the songs and put them back on again using the library on the second computer. The ipod sync's one way, from computer to ipod. It will not sync ipod to computer. There are third party applications that will allow to do this. I have not used this application, so I can't say how well it works. Give it a try and let me know?

  • Using two computers with one IPhone

I have two offices, and two office computers. I'd like to sync all the Outlook data on each computer with my IPhone. Also, is there any way to have the music list in ITunes in one computer sync through the IPhone to the second computer?

On the Outlook data, your best bet is to use something like Google Sync. I have three computers (one work, one home desktop, one home netbook) all synced up with my iPhone using Google. And it's free.

  • Using two computers and one ipod

    Hi,
I currently have itunes on my windows xp desktop and now on my windows vista laptop. I would like to be able to plug in my ipod and use it as normal on both computers - is there a way to do this? Why does the ipod not work as a normal plug and play device as many other smaller memory mp3 players?
    Thanks,

You can manually manage music (depending on the ipod model):

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod
