Using two routers. WRT150n and a BEFSR81

Ok i am having trouble adding a wireless router to my existing home network. On the network is the BEFSR81 router. I would like to plug my wireless router (WRT150n) into the BEFSR81 so that I am adding wireless internet to the house for my laptop. I cannot get this router to work. I am sure that I am not setting it up correctly. I am very computer savy but networks are not my thing? How do I set this WRT150n up?

This topic has been discussed frequently in this forum.  Please see my previous post at:
http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=73830&query.id=...
Although the routers mentioned in the post are different models, the settings are all the same.
Note that this "two router" setup is designed to be used by those who want to locate the wireless router at some distance away from the wired router.  If the wired and wireless routers will be near each other, simply remove the wired router from your network, and use only the wireless router.

  • Using two routers for the same SSID

    So here's my story. I have a standard Actiontec router in my basment, connected straight to the coax outlet, and connected by LAN Ethernet to a crappy computer nobody uses. It gives off a WPA2 wifi network, let's call it MyNetwork. For the longest time it's been the only router in the house. The coax outlet is on a splitter, splitting the coax outlet into one wire that goes to the Actiontec modem/router and the other to my TV STB. Recently we installed a new coax outlet on the other side of my house and next to it we have a brand new desktop computer that we use often. It has no wifi so and we can't run an ethernet cable throughout the entire house so we got a new Actiontec modem/router from our neighbor who just moved out. It's the exact same Actiontec device.
    What we want to do is make it so that both routers give off signal on the same MyNetwork we have to make it a wider reaching signal, and so that I can connect the new desktop computer to the new router with an ethernet cable. I've read so many guides and they're all so confusing and it's such a mess that I almost completely screwed over my network. it seems like the two routers are completely independent of one another, not even aware of the others' existence. The new router is definitely in range of the old one. I've logged into 192.168.1.1 on the new computer and the new router seems to think it IS the old router (or so I think). It showed me all the same devices that have connected to MyNetwork and such, but then again it's always hard to be certain exactly which device is which. After messing around I must have changed some IP address or something, but it seems that 192.168.1.1 doesn't take me to the Verizon login screen, but 192.168.2.1 does. Can I reset those IP addresses?
    And of course, can somone please provide a clean, easy to follow course of action as to how to set up two routers on one network?

    I suspect it might be a good idea to step back reconsider your ultimate layout.  Essentially you now have two (or if the STB is also included, three) coax drops connected to the ONT.  It seems that you desire that one of these service the STB, and the other two each service a desktop and a wireless access point.  If this is the case, continue reading.
    There is no need to consider the original Actiontec router as the primary router, wireless or otherwise.  Use the new coax location to connect to the primary Actiontec router (you can use either router).  For starters, reset both routers to their factory defaults using the reset switch on the back of each device (for details, do a search).
    Once the primary router has been located (or relocated) to the new coax drop, just connect the new desktop there using an Ethernet cable connected to one of the LAN ports on the back of the router.  Then set up your primary wireless network based on this router (once again, do a search on these forums for specifics on setting up a basic wireless home network).
    Now use the original coax outlet where the first router was located to set up another access point.  This access point will provide Ethernet connections plus an additional wireless network (if it's still needed).  However you cannot have two wireless devices on a single home network with the same SSID (i.e., network name).  Here are details on some methods to do this:

  • I want to use two analog channels and one digital simultaneously

    Hello and thanks in advance for reading this!
    What I am trying to do is generate two different signals from the output channels of my interface card (PCI6024E) and simultaneously use a digital line so that I can switch two tranzistors (one NPN, one PNP) which actually control the "flow" of the two signals. This means that both signals need to be "active" while the VI is running and at the same time whenever I want to choose the signal not in use I need to use the digital line so that I switch the tranzistors and I get the desired signal.
    I have already created a VI which activates a digital line and while I was trying to add with the NI-DAQmx Assistant the first digital output, I discovered that it c
    ould not be used simultaneously, because there was the error code -200324 saying that "Device not available in NI-DAQmx. It is possible that the device is being used by Traditional NI-DAQ or that the device is being reset."
    I did reset the device but as I get it when VI runs, it cannot have an active digital channel and an analog output channel at the same time (not to mention two analog channels). Correct me (And make my day if I am wrong but this seems to be the case. Thanks a lot for your time!

    Hey Shootist000,  Thanks for the replies.  First off, I am actually okay if we both have each other applications so I am not concerned about that. It is still unclear from what you have said as to whether I can in fact, use these two separte time machine backup to create two separate profiles on the new hard drive.  If that in fact can be done, then - will it create two copies of the apps we both have in the ROOT of the drive as well as placing all the ones we each have separately?
    And reading your second reply, makes me think that maybe the partition is the way to go to begin with and then down the road - after I am in the new iMac, I could reformat the iMac 27 with only one partion and restore my son's latest back prior to the reformat thus giving him full access to the 2 TB of the drive.
    If this is still making sense, does this mean :
    replace the 1TB with a 2TB - but have it partitione - 1.5 TB & 500 GB.
    Install(Restore using Time Machine) my latest back up prior to the  1.5 partition
    Install (Restore using Time Machine) my son's latest back up prior to the 500 gig partition
    Lastly, in order for us both to be using the partioned computer - I am assuming Switch user can no longer be used - so would we need to restart and select our respective partions in order to use the computer?   And if so, how would we each be able to be using time machine to back up - two separte external hard drives - with each one dedicated to only one partition? Or ?
    Thanks so much.
    Ironically, I am only trying to do this so that I don't need to manually install all his apps, setting, games, blah blah for this temporary period.  :-)

  • Using two Nike+ Nanos and one iTunes Library

    Hi,
    I have a Nike+ account and a nano. I am considering buying my wife a Nike+ kit to go with her nano.
    We share a single iTunes library.
    Can we use two nanos with different Nike+ accounts from the same iTunes account? And both upload our runs to our own accounts without confusion?

    You can always setup seperate accounts on your Mac for you & your wife & place the library in /Users/Shared/ as an alternative. However, as others have posted, the settings for Nike+ are per iPod.

    I have two routers from verizon and me anad my room mate share fios services like we pay half and he pay half. His router is old b/g gives issues and he refuses to upgrade to the $100 advance one and he said I can order it if I pay for it all and have it in my room. How dose that work? The router how will I hook it up without interfering with his router?

    Your description is rather vague.
    You don't mention how your 2 routers are connected at the moment and which router you intend to get rid of if you purchase the $100 advanced one, which I don't think is worth the money.  I assume you only have the single Fios connection to which only one router can be connected.  Maybe this link will give you some thought on how you want to do it.

  • Using two fingerprint readers and a docking station

    I'm having a problem with the fingerprint reader when used with an Advanced mini dock station.
    I recently aquired an Advanced mini dock and a Lenovo fingerprint keyboard to be used with my T61p and Windows 7 Ultimate.
    The problem is that each time the T61p is docked I need to open Windows Device Manager and disable the internal fingerprint reader - and when undocked - the internal fingerprint reader needs to be enabled again.
    This is a bit tedious - to say the least.
    I've heard from someone that Windows should 'remember' when you enable/disable like this when the machine is docked and undocked, but this doesn't happen here.
    Any ideas on how to make Windows automatically switch between the internal fingerprint reader when undocked - and the external fingerprint reader on the Lenovo keyboard - when docked? I know there is no longer machine hardware profiles - like in Win XP. But shouldn't there be some other feature to take care of stuff like this?
    Any hints are welcome.
    TIA.

    Tinkerguy,
    Thank you for the tip.
    However, although very informative - it doesn't help in my case. On the Lenovo fingerprint keyboard I'm using the fingerprint reader is an UPEK as well - and for both FPR's the same driver version is loaded.
    I forgot to mention that I've already checked that the external FPR has been set to have precedence in BIOS.
    I'm now in contact with tech support at UPEK - Let's see if that gives anything.
    Question: Is there _anyone_ out there that is successfully using Lenovo's Fingerprint Reader keyboard with a Thinkpad and a docking station under Windows 7?
    By successful, I mean without having the necessity to switch the internal fingerprint reader off and on when docking/undocking?
    TIA.

  • Using two routers and PLK300 adapter, WRT54G internet issues

    I have a Wireless N on the third floor and a powerline adapter connected to that, on the first floor I have a WRT54G connected to the other powerline adapter. When I plug my laptop directly into the powerline adapter I have internet access, but when I plug in my WRT54G router I do not have internet access (through my laptop when wirelessly connected) I can access the rest of my network through the router and the rest of my network can access the internet. Just not my WRT54G router.  Any ideas?

    How is your WRT54G setup and connected?
    I assume you want file and/or printer sharing across your entire network  -- is that correct?
    If so, your WRT54G should be converted to a WAP.  To do this, setup the WRT54G as follows:
    First, disconnect the WRT54G from the rest of your network, then make the following changes:
    Local IP address:  192.168.1.2  (this assumes your N router is using 192.168.1.1 , and that you are not using 192.168.1.2 elsewhere in your network.)
    DHCP server:  disabled
    Save the settings, then power down your entire network.
    Wire the powerline adapter to any LAN port on the WRT54G.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port of the WRT54G.
    Power up your system.  It should work.
    Are you using the same or different SSID from wireless N router?

  • How to configure a cisco 2960 switch to support two routers(data and voice), please give me any suggestions

    HI, I need to configure a 2960 switch at a client site. They have routers already been installed on site, one is for data traffic another is for voice. I have created two vlans on switch  for data and voice. Now I couldn't get any idea what would be the default gateway on switch.

    HI Leo,
                Many thanks for your reply.

    switchport access vlan 100
     switchport mode access
    interface GigabitEthernet0/2
    description UPLINK TO voice router

     switchport mode access
    interface Vlan1
     no ip address
     no ip route-cache

     ip helper address 172.16.1.1
     no ip route-cache
     I have used IP helper address, but I am getting some connecting issues on PCs and IP phones. Please suggest me, Can I manage it with two uplinks with different IP addresses.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    The reason iTunes does this is because it is illegal to use your friend's music.

  • Can you use two Time Capsules and back up both with Time Machine.

    My little iMac hard drive (250GB) is quickly filling up with my iTunes library (180GB). I have a 500GB Time Capsule which I use to back up my system via Time Capsule. I would like to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive. If I add the 1TB Time Capsule and use it as my main system back up and wireless router can I use my 500GB Time Capsule as an external drive to locate my iTunes library? Will I be able to back up both my iMac HD and the 500GB Time Capsule to the 1TB Time Capsule using Time Machine or some other method?
    Finally if I can do this can I have both Time Capsules running wireless?

    Could I simply make a copy and move it between the two Time Capsule on a routine basis say every two weeks or month?
    Yes
    I know I will have to "point" or "map" the new location of my iTunes library to the external hard drive/2nd Time Capsule. Once that is done wouldn't Time Machine then just find the location and back it up along with all the data on the iMac hard drive?
    Since this Time Capsule would be connected wirelessly or via Ethernet to your Mac, it would appear as a network drive. Time Machine will not back up data FROM a network drive. Therefore Time Machine will not back up data on this other Time Capsule.

  • How to use two external monitors and Tecra M5

    Hi ,
    I've been used to work with two 17" monitors connected to a computer in extended desktop monitor view, ii've just changed Job and now i have the following setup:
    a Toshiba Laptop connected to Toshiba Tecra M5 dockstation and one external 17" monitor connected to dockstation digital port that works fine.
    I also have connected another external 17" monitor to the Dockstation RGB port but keeps black
    I'ts really awful to work like this switching between the 17" monitor and the small toshiba laptop monitor.
    What i'd like is to work with the two external 17" monitor, and keep the laptop monitor off, or if possible on.
    Any ideas???
    Any help will be very wellcome
    Mari PAz

    I have an M11-17V, and the docking station that came with it has 2 monitor outputs, analogue and DVI. I wondered what it would do if I connected a monitor to both. Windows recognised that it was faced with 3 screens (including the built-in one) and asked me to choose which 2 of the 3 I wanted it to use.
    I was disappointed it would not allow me to use all of them TBH, but if your docking station is the same, it might answer your question.

  • Cloud service using two machines, PC and Mac?

    I know that I can use the Cloud service on two computers, one at a time. But can one be a PC and one a MAC?

    Yes.
    That's one of the advantages of the Cloud license over the traditional, perpetual software license.
    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/creativecloud/faq.html
    Are there any unique benefits that come with my paid membership?
    Yes, as a member of Creative Cloud, you get many benefits that you do not get when you purchase a traditional shrinkwrapped product:
    An ever-expanding membership that provides access to Adobe's latest products, services, features, and workflows as soon as they are available. You no longer have to wait 12, 18, or 24 months for the latest innovations.
    Access to both the Mac OS and Windows® versions of the desktop applications and the ability to install them on your primary computer and one backup computer. So, if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, you can install your applications on both as long as they are not running at the same time.

    </schema>
    I've imported this XSD in my ESB project and created a file adapter which reads this type op files.
    I've created another file adapter to write the files 1:1 to an output dir.
    In the routingservice I've created a very straightforward XSL mapping which maps everything 1:1.
    Now the problem
    When I use this input :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rows>
    <row>
    <id>10</id>
    <naam>Martin</naam>
    </row>
    <row>
    <id>20</id>
    <naam>Edward</naam>
    </row>
    </rows>
    my output result is:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?><imp1:rows xmlns:imp1="http://www.test.nl/testschema"/>
    I know this is a namespace issue. When I add the namespace
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rows xmlns="http://www.test.nl/testschema">
    <row>
    <id>10</id>
    <naam>Martin</naam>
    </row>
    <row>
    <id>20</id>
    <naam>Edward</naam>
    </row>
    </rows>
    I get the correct ( and 1:1 output ).
    The problem is. In the scenario I'm about to build the input xml messages do not have an namespace. How can I alter my xsd file or anything within my ESB project that all files will be picked up correctly and processed without having an default namespace?
    Any help is appreciated!

    True,
    But its the other way around what is causing my problem.
    Because the input xml files contain no namespace at all the xml messages are transformed but result in an almost empty xml message. ( e.g. the root element is there and thats it ).
    This is because the XML transformation mapper in ESB ( as well as BPEL ) excplicitly needs a namespace.
    I solved it by editing the XSL by hand, removing the :imp1 namespace prefixes in the select="" tags. e.g.
    <xsl:for-each select="/imp1:rows/imp1:row"> is updated in
    <xsl:for-each select="/rows/row">
    As far as I know this is the only workaround at the moment that I could find.
