Using two versions of Photoshop

I have Photoshop CS5 installed on my C:\. I would like to install Photoshop CC on another drive and use both versions, is this possible?

You asked about CS5. Adobe claims this is possible so one hopes so.
That said when I launch Ps CS5 (or any other CS5 Suite application) it opens as a trial version and will not accept my valid serial number.
I believe Adobe Application Manager may have  difficulty negotiating between versions depending on where and when they have been installed. Thus YMMV.
Adobe Support has recommended that, after having removed the Adobe Creative Cloud app, then running a downloadable  Adobe Cleaner tool, and then reinstalling the the Adobe Creative Cloud, I proceed to uninstall and re-install CS5. They assure me this will resolve the issue, however I have not yet had an opportunity to uninstall/reinstall CS5 to verify.
It's an aspect of life with CC where something that ought to  be simple is convoluted.

  • CC shows two versions of Photoshop: Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (2014)

My CC subscription shows two versions of Photoshop. I tried to open both versions. Photoshop CC opened, Photoshop CC (2014) would not. I deleted it. Now CC shows one update available: Photoshop CC (2014). Anyone know what CC is doing?

    John,
Thank you. Your guidance was spot on.
The following comment is for Adobe:
We have all seen the transition over time of the way software updates happen. I remember virus programs doing things like:
It has been two weeks since I checked for updated virus signatures. Shall I check now? Yes
There is a new virus signature available. Shall I download it? Yes
I have downloaded the new virus signature. Shall I install it? Yes
I have installed the new virus signature, but must restart the virus program to use it. Shall I do that? Yes
I have rebooted the virus program and all is fine. OK.
I was really enjoying how Adobe would update the versions of their products in the Creative Cloud, and waiting for the day I'd have to trigger the activity. What I'd like is for Adobe to just do it. The way Apple has sort of standardized app updating is that you can adjust a setting and it will install updates automatically. Many vendors have a "What's new" screen that opens the first time after upgrading so you can see what's new. In the case when your concurrence is needed before installation, the upgrade is downloaded in the background and some descriptive information is provided so you can decide if you want to do it (this is typically for IOS major upgrades).
Adobe didn't handle the Photoshop CC to Photoshop CC (2014) well. I was very happy to lose the designator of which version I have. The version I want is: Latest. The two versions appeared (Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (2014)) without explanation. John's instructions (above) indicated that you need to uninstall Photoshop CC, shut down and then restart the Creative Cloud App, then download and install the new version. Why did I have to go through a forum entry when Adobe could have simply put a line under Photoshop CC (2014) that said "Important: read this" and then provided an explanation of what's going on and how to do it. (BTW, that is a mediocre solution. The right solution would be to tell you what's up and then give you the option to click on a button which would have triggered all the steps to replace one version with the other.)
So, bottom line, I have never been an Adobe fan. I moved to Lightroom because of the Photography special offer and I am hooked. Updating Lightroom to support iPads and iPhones was just super. My expectations soared. This update didn't meet them.
But, have a nice day anyway!

  • Will using two versions of dreamweaver trash my code??

Our company is currently building a new website and we keep running into problems.  Currently we have one main web desginer and another person who helps input text and pictures.  Because we have two people working on this project the file bounces between two computers at the office and then is taken home and used on a third computer.  In the midst of the multi-use of computers there are two versions of Macromedia, studio 8 and MX.  We had our code completely trashed and now all versions on each computer are not working.  We think that it was due to a code that was pulled off of a blog for a "print this page" option that was input into the template, but now just realized that using two versions of dreamweaver also may have caused the problem.  If anyone has suggestions as to what may have caused this please respond!
    Thank you!

Thank you David! We will stop worrying about that and try to back track the tainted code

  • After running CC update I have TWO versions of Photoshop CC. Which should I delete?

I had the CC version of Photoshop installed. A week or two ago I ran the CC updater and it listed something called "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014" in addition to "Adobe Photoshop CC." I selected "update all" and ended up with what appear to be two copies of Photoshop on my OS X Mac:
         Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 - version 15.0.0
Adobe Photoshop CC - version 14.2.1
    Questions:
It seems like the "CC 2014" copy is a new version and that I do not need the original "CC" installation, right?
Should I just run the uninstaller in the "CC" version folder, and will this leave the "CC 2014" intact?
Is there a reason this happened, and should I do anything to prevent a repeat?
    Thanks,
    Dan

This messages says (at least some) CC 2014 programs use NEW plugins https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1499663
-so do not uninstall the older CC programs if you use plugins in your programs until you are sure you have plugins that work in CC2014

  • Two versions of photoshop open at same time

I  updated Photoshop CC last week, and now have Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014 in my applications folder. When I open a file created in Photoshop, it opens Photoshop. However, if I open another Photoshop file (by double-clicking on it), it opens up in a second Photoshop app (instead of the Photoshop app that's already open)... so I have two Photoshops open at the same time. And both are CC versions.
    What gives?

You must be on a Mac will not happen on windows. Are you sure both open Photoshop versions is CC 14.2.1.  Have you used menu Help>About Photoshop from both Photoshop windows?
Also read Re: CC 14.2.1: MiniBridge > Photoshop Tools menu scripts are launching CC 2014.. err why ?

  • Using two version of Crystal Report Application Server simultaneously

We are currently using Crystal Report Server XI Release 1 in a production environment, and we would like to test Crystal Report Server XI Release 2 in a test environment, on the same network.
Is there a way to be using those two versions simultaneously on the same network, using the same license key, for test purposes ?
If our tests are conclusive, we will upgrade our production environment to Release 2.
    Thank you
    Anthony Arnaud

As long as they are not on the same computer this is a rather comon configuration as best practices dictate that customers should maintain multiple environments (DEV/UAT/PROD) for example.
If you are trying to install both on the same server it's not supported with those 2 versions and is known to cause issues where neither will work (different story if using unix and different port numbers).

    Tim

  • I have two versions of photoshop.

the older one is photoshop cs. when I try to open it, I get a memory error message and it says I must close it. the other one, cs5 works fine but I still would like to use the older one sometimes. I don't think I have the disc to re-install it. what can I do?

You must be on an old PowerPC MAC.  New Intel Mac can run more then one version at a time.  On A PC it you try to start a version of PS and there is a different version o Photoshop up and running you get thrown into the running version.

  • Using two versions of RoboHelp?

I recently upgraded to RH6 from RH X5. However, RH 6 has a
bug that does not let me generate the same WebHelp that I could
with RH X5. Can I use both versions on my computer? I would like to
use RH X5 to generate WebHelp and RH 6 to create print
    documentation with the hypertext links.

That sounds like installing X5 after RH6 which is not covered
in my topic. That is untested as far as I know and I wouldn't want
to try it on a production machine.
However, I don't understand the need. Why can't you generate
the same webhelp from Rh6 that you did before?

  • Can I use two versions of firefox on one computer?

3.6.10 and 4beta in parallel? Would both versions use the same bookmark file or how can they stay in-sync? I love 4beta but still would need to use 3.6.10 for some add-ons. Thanks a lot!!

You can use both versions but should use a different profile for each one (location where Firefox stores user data such as bookmarks).
The beta version should by default be installed in a different location than the release version, but to ensure this is the case you can choose the Custom option when installing Firefox and specify where you want it installed.
Next you need to create a new profile folder for the beta version, for details of how to do that see the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows]. Once you have created a new profile, you can create shortcuts that open the correct profile, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile Shortcut to a specific profile].
Finally you can arrange for Firefox to synchronize the bookmarks and passwords used by the 2 versions. You can do this by using Firefox Sync. The Firefox 4 beta will have it built in, but for Firefox 3.6.10 you can install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10868/ Firefox Sync] add-on. For details on using Firefox Sync see [[what is Firefox Sync]].

  • Using two versions of jre simultaneously

We have two web java-based applications, and each one requires one specific version of java (1.4.1_03 and 1.3.1_07).
They only work with their required java version. Furthermore, if we install the newer one, the one which needs the oldest does not work.
Is there any way to install both versions, and use them each one with its associated application (i.e. changing path..)?
The management operations for both applications will be carried out from a single point (a single PC, Windows NT/2000), and we need to have access to both applications from that single point.
    Any help is welcome.....

  • Why are there two versions of Photoshop (CC

After accidentally opening two parts of the same website in DW CC and DW 2014 CC, I uninstalled the older version.  Can someone tell me WHY the new version didn't overwrite the older one?  I assume that it is necessary to uninstall older versions, but this should be automatic on the upgrade shouldn't it?.  What is the reason for this? Kind of interested because it was unexpected.
Years ago when upgrading from CS3 we discovered that the Photoshop PDF function could no longer make PDFs with pages in newer versions CS4 and CS5 (which clients wanted) so I have kept my CS3 Photoshop pgm just for making PDFs, while running the latest version for everything else.  Is it possible that Adobe depreciated some functions in this new release of CC2014 and that is the reason for both versions of CC?  Just putting it out there, I don't spend my vacations in Roswell, NM or anything like that.
    Thanks!
    John

Adobe, why are you making things so complicated...
People pay for the cloud, so they want improvement, they want to go with the latest tools automatically.
I'm a spoiled Mac user, where Apple always overwrites old apps, which is the most user friendly solution there is.
Please do this as well, because it truly sucks to have two apps!
Could you tell me how I get rid of the old version on a user friendly way, so my documents open with the new app.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Any problems using different versions of photoshop elements (7.0) and premiere elements (8.0)?

I already own Photoshop Elements 7.0 and am now considering buying Premiere Elements 8.0. Does anyone know if I will have any version problems with this, especially with the Organizer? Do I need to upgrade PSE to 8.0 as well?

1- A forum participant tested that slideshow workflow from Photoshop Elements 7 to Premiere Elements 8 and verified that it worked for him.
2 - General Organizer use is probably an entirely different question.  I have not attempted that myself and don't know anyone who has. It seems doubtful that a specific catalog file could be shared between Premiere Elements 8 and Photoshop Elements 7.
3 - Since you mention that you are interested in upgrading to Premiere Elements 8, I recommend that you read relevant FAQs from the FAQ forum here, starting with

  • How to use two versions routing in SAP on different time period?

    Hi PP experts,
There is a material Material-100 linked Routing-A and Routing-B. I would like to use Material-100/Routing-A combination during period 29.04.2015-30.05.2015, and using Material-100/Routing-B combination during period 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
Could you please kindly guide me how to do it in SAP? Thank you.
    Best Regards,
    Bu Fanchao

    Hi Amit,
Below is my thinking, please kindly help me check.
    1. Due to routing-A is existed in SAP with period 29.04.2015-31.12.9999. So I need to change the valid-to-date from 31.12.9999 to 30.05.2015 via ECM.
    2. Create routing-B by CA01 with period 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
    3. Create production-version-1 with routing-A/BOM during 29.04.2015-30.05.2015. And Create production-version-2 with routing-B/BOM during 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
My new question: Do I have to create production-version to achieve it? Does SAP system can choose routing automatically without production-version?
    Best Regards,
    Bu Fanchao

  • Bridge cc uses older version of photoshop

i just installed adobe bridge cc and it keeps trying to open images with an older version (uninstalled) of photoshop. I tried to uninstall and reinstall bridge with no luck. Any suggestionjs?

    Update on this issue:
    Concerning Ps CS6 seizing Dominance:
I did try UNinstalling and then re-installing Ps CC 14.00 but Ps CS6 still retained "Dominance" (meaning that it was impossible to change System Permissions to recognise that all PSDs should always be opened from the Finder in Ps CC).
Finally I uninstalled Ps CS6 from this HD and now CC has established "Dominance".
Bridge CS6 was NOT removed from my HD when I uninstalled Ps CS6. (You need to keep Bridge CS6 until Adobe replaces the the AOM Panel in Bridge CC.)
Also, choosing the Default File Associations in Bridge CC, now correctly sets all Photoshop-related Associations to Ps CC instead of Ps CS6.
Duplicated from another thread beause there are multiple threads all discussing the same issue!
