Using unlocked Aus iPhone with USA sim card?

I'm moving to USA from Australia, if i unlock my iPhone can i use it normally with a USA sim such as Verizon or AT&T?

If it is officially unlocked you will certainly be able to use it with AT&T, but not with Version as they do not even use sims.  Yours is a GSM handset and Verison use a different version.

    hello,
Am An Iphone Costumer  i purchased an iphone 5S in UAE , Can i use it in India with Indian Sim Card ?

Well, surely you know which carrier you were using in the UAE when you purchased the phone?
You can tell if the phone is unlocked if you put a new sim card in the phone and it works - if you put a new sim card in the phone and it comes up with 'sim card invalid', then the phone is locked and you'll need to get it unlocked.

I have an iPhone 3gs, and I downloaded ios 5.1 through iTunes, but now its telling me to activate my iPhone with a sim card, and I never had one.. Help!

I used an old sim card to try to activate my iphone 3gs, it didnt work, and it gave me this response:
We're sorry, the iPhone you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service. We reccomend you visit your nearest apple Store for more information.

  • IPhone with GoPhone SIM card

I intend on seeing my 2 year contract through, which expires June 30. I was thinking that maybe I could buy a prepaid Go Phone, swap the SIM card with my iPhone and then only pay as I need. The truth is that I am usually near a regular phone and I don't really need to pay for cell service anymore.
    Will this work?

    I don't believe so.
Although it is possible to use your iPhone's activated SIM card with another AT&T carrier locked phone or with an unlocked GSM phone, it isn't possible to use a SIM card from another AT&T carrier locked phone with your iPhone without activating the SIM card with your iPhone. The SIM card used with the iPhone is "married" to the iPhone's IMEI number.

  • HT3406 Using a Verizon iPhone 4 (no sim card) as an iPod touch.

If I were to buy a Verizon iPhone 4 from someone would I be able to use it as an iPod touch? I looked at the apple article about using an iPhone without service and it says that I need a sim card to activate it. Well the Verizon iPhone 4 never came with a sim card. Does this mean that inorder to use the phone as an iPod touch, I need to have service on it?

Yes, you certainly can.  You will still want to plug it into iTunes and activate it with Apple (has notthing to do with cellular service) so you can download music and apps to it.  An iPhone not associated with a cellular service contract is effectively nothing more than an iPod Touch anyway.
If the seller does not do so, you'd be best to also do a full restore on it to set it up as new for yourself and your content and use.
Since this is a CDMA iPhone, in order to be sure the cellular radio is not wasting power, just enable airplane mode, then re-enable just wifi.  That will leave the cellular radio OFF and power on just the wifi radio.
I used my old iPhone 3Gs as an iPod Touch for a good couple of years, no problems with that intended use.
(p.s. if this was a GSM iPhone, then yes, you would need a SIM, any SIM, in it in order to activate it in iTunes.  For a CDMA phone, you simply skip that part of the process - just plug it in and activate in iTunes).

  • Using the Treo 750 with no SIM CARD

Please advise on how I can use the Treo 750 for everything except what I would need a sim card for.  I am currently upgrading my smartphone, but would like to have my wife use the PDA functions and apps on the Treo without having to insert a sim card until she is comfortable with using the smartphone for everything else.
The features I would expect NOT to have is phone service, wireless data service - wireless exchange email and wireless internet access.  Associated services that would be great to retain - Outlook Exchange Server synch/update via USB when tied to a PC that has internet connection.
Sort of like turning an iphone into an ipod touch.
When I boot the phone without a sim card, it basically says I cannot use it without a sim card.  Would I need a "dummy" sim to make the thing more than a paperweight?
    Please advise.

    Hello!
Quickly hit the start menu button twice and that should go back to the today screen and use like a PDA.  Due note that a restart and/or using cellular stuff could trigger the SIM card requirement again.

  • Does German iPad work with USA sim card?

I have an iPad I bought in Germany. Now want to take to my parents in the USA and get them a USA sim card so they can use it. Will it work? Does anyone know? I heard Apple has made it so it will not work with an american sim card.

Only the latest iPad Air 2 has Apple SIM and only in U.S & U.K. if you have a cellular model.

  • TS2755 Can I use my unlocked Iphone with no sim card, like an Ipod?

I am being deployed and had my account paused (ATT) untill I return. My service is currently off. The ATT rep said that I would need to take the sim card out when updating any apps or it might revert back and lock the phone again. I am trying to message (text) my wife with message (she has an I phone 3gs). I am gettign aerror message. when I go to settings/messages I truned everything off except imessage. By accident, I truned it off, when I turned it on it says "waiting for activation..." any help would be much appreciated.

I can get calls with it using my UK sim (legally unlocked by my carrier O2) but I'd like to use it to make local calls.
On the screen I'm getting normal icons but in the top left hand corner...no signal.  It just pops up and then it goes off.
I tried turning the handset off and on but no joy...

  • Can i buy the iPhone with international sim card, can i buy the iPhone with international sim card

    International sim card

I don't know about an international sim card. You can buy the iPhones unlocked in selected countries as they are legally required to sell them unlocked. Such as here in New Zealand. The unlocked iPhones can be used with any carriers micro sim cards.

  • Activating iPhone with friends SIM card

If I buy an GSM unlocked iPhone 5 in Thailand and plan to stay there for one month. If I activate it there with my friends sim card but intend to use it in Malaysia. Is it fine if I activate my phone with another sim in Thailand then when I go to Malaysia use my SIM card normally? Thanks so much. Getting an iPhone 5 next week.

You can not activate it without a SIM. It's a phone, after all. The SIM does not need to be tied to active service, but it must be present and if the phone is carrier locked, it must be from the correct carrier. There is no way around it.

  • Anyway to activate old 2G iPhone with dummy SIM card?

Hello all, I just had a quick question that I can't seem to find the answer to. Currently, I have an old 2G iphone that is in "Emergency Mode Only." I was wondering, I have plenty of dummy sim cards lying around (used to be an RSA rep, ended up collecting several old, un-activated sim's) and was wondering if there was anyway to use one of these sim cards to at least get to the home screen of the iPhone so I could use it for music, movies and when I enter wifi. When I try and do this, all I get is the "Activate your iPhone" screen in iTunes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it doesn't seem quite right does it? Either illegally hack a device, or sell it to somebody else who IS going to illegally hack it because you no longer have any use for it.
Its a shame, I've had to swap between this phone a couple times while my 3G was out for repair. I did activate the 2G, and went through the hassle of activating, switching my rate plan, and all that good stuff. When I got my 3G back, I was able to use a blank sim card and still be on the home screen, until I did a complete reset on the phone, which brings us to the present, and the Emergency Call only screen. Seems that if I wouldn't have completely reset the phone, I would have at least been able to use it as an iPod.
Thanks for the quick replies. So I guess my next question is, is it possible to jailbreak an inactivated iPhone in Emergency Mode only to use it as an iPod and such?

  • New iPhone with new SIM card - Retrieving data

My iPhone was stolen, so I had to buy a new one, so it's also a new SIM card. When I connected to iTunes, I thought it would ask me if I wanted to restore with my previous backed up data which would have also included all my contacts, notes, pictures, etc. It didn't. Is there any way to retrieve the backed up data from my old phone and sync it to my new phone?

Not sure why it didn't ask you to restore from a backup.
Plug in and open iTunes. Click on the iPhone under DEVICES. Click Restore. Let it restore to factory settings, and then wait for iTunes to prompt if you want to "Set Up as New iPhone" or "Restore from Backup."
