Using Upgrade License on UCCX 8.0 with "Fresh Install" setup

Hi all,
My situation right now is that I want to install UCCX 8.0 (on a VM environment) and I don't have any previous UCCX version deployed, but the licenses I have are :
- an Upgrade License from ver.5 to ver.8
- a PAK and SW kit license (also contains the seats licenses) for UCCX version 5.
Because I don't have any previous UCCX version deployed, I installed UCCX 8.0 and chose "Fresh Install". When I upload the upgrade license, the server returned a warning that said "The license for Cisco Unified CCX Premium Seat ESW or UCSS Upgrade is not a valid addition for the package None and therefore it will be ignored" and "The license for Cisco Unified CCX Premium ESW or UCSS Upgrade is not a valid addition for the package None and therefore it will be ignored".
My questions are :
- Can I use the licenses I have on a fresh installation of UCCX 8.0 ( the upgrade license and the ver.5 license) ? Because I've tried similar scenarios with the licenses on Unity Connection and it worked. I'm wondering if it's not possible with UCCX 8.0 and that's what caused the error.
- If the answer for the "Fresh Install" path is No, does it mean I have to use the "Upgrade" path -what I'm trying to avoid if I can- meaning that I have to install ver.5 first and then upgrade it to ver.8 using PUT( ? Because on the initial setup If I choose "Ugrade from previous version" it will ask where the data from the previous version are located and right now I don't have any.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Regi

Thanks for the answer Hoai Huynh (and Aaron for adding the info).
Just what I was worrying about, I need to build a ver.5 first. I would appreciate it if you can answer a few last questions if you don't mind :
So, I need to install UCCX v.5 and also CM v.5 (because my CM v.8 is not supported by UCCX v.5).
Can the UCCX ver.5 data from the migration tool (PUT) be used on the UCCX v.8 that is integrated with different CM server (different IP address, different credentials, etc) ? Because the steps in the UCCX v.8 upgrade guide are describing a scenario where the CM is the same server and is being upgraded at the same time with UCCX.
Related to no.1 question, Is there anything I should be aware of when setting up the UCCX ver.5 and CM ver.5 ? For example : need to have same IP addresses with the version8 servers, same AXL / application user name and password, etc.
At exactly what point of configuration on UCCX v.5 can I use the PUT to migrate data from the ver.5 (the guide only mentioned to make sure that the server is up and running)? Can I do it right away after the first initial setup ? Or do I need to configure a working application to get all the subsystems in "full-service" first ?
Thanks again.

I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 with iTunes installed. Now my iPhone 4S is no longer recognized in iTunes. Connecting the iPhone with USB sends me directly to the MS app that downloads pictures from the iPhone. Suggest this is a question of missing Apple driver for Windows 8, iTunes and iPhone. MS does not care! This seems to be a general problem with Windows 8 that a number of drivers that used to work with Windows 7 now do not work, ie. iPhone to iTunes, HTC to HTCSync, Samsung to Kies etc. I need this connection to work in order to syncronize with Outlook and my iTunes library.

There will be a new version of iTunes released this month... no one forced you to upgrade prior to a supported version of iTunes being released.

  • Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 with clean install

I want to install Windows 7 on my Equium U-400 laptop with clean install in order to save space in my C drive. The question is how will I restore all Toshiba bundled software that my laptop came with. There is a HDD Recovery folder in the second partition but I am afraid that using this will re-install Windows Vista as well. Any help or ideas?

    >The question is how will I restore all Toshiba bundled software that my laptop came with.
This software is bundled in recovery image only and cannot be downloaded from Toshiba download page. Just when you use recovery image you will have possibility to use this additional software.
With additional software I mean Toshiba CD/DVD player, trail Office version or preinstalled antivirus application.
All other stuff like Toshiba tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.

  • Preserving play data with fresh install

Due to a catastrophic error and probably too much trying to repair it without assistance, I'm forced with the prospect of uninstalling iTunes (9.0) and reinstalling 9.2. However, I've accumulated 7 years of playlists and play data that I'm unwilling to lose. Does the assembled wisdom here believe that there are files within the iTunes folder that, left alone, will remain in place after a complete uninstall and reinstall?
Specifically, I see rather large files in C:\(user)\Music\iTunes (OS = Vista 64-bit) with names like iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml, many of which appear to have been updated the last time I was able to launch iTunes.
Is the wise course of action to back up (or move entirely) those files, perform the un/re-install, then move them back into the iTunes folder?

So, I've backed up my entire iTunes folder, ran the uninstall directions for 64-bit Vista, uninstalled and deleted everything as listed at the appropriate window in http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/, and the installation still refuses to complete. The first attempt threw an error listing an insanely long registry key. Subsequent attempts using the Repair option in the installer says the install has completed successfully, but iTunes Helper then throws an error reading
"Apple Application Support was not found.
"Apple Application Support is required to run iTunesHelper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
    "Error 1"
For the record, I've had zero problems with iTunes since its first Windows release (including syncing with two different iPods over the past three years). It wasn't until I was forced into the 9.2 upgrade to sync my new iPhone4 (from 9.0.something) that I experienced this problem at all.
Since I can't get my iPhone serial # without iTunes, and can't launch iTunes, I can't get through the procedure to open a support call.
If anyone has any insight into how to get out of this ridiculous situation, I'd appreciate it.

  • TTY problems with fresh install

    HP Compaq 8510W
    Fresh install of 32-bit Arch
I have had 64-bit Arch running on this laptop without incident---until the last upgrade broke Flash..:(  (But that's another story.....)
Now, I have just installed 32-bit Arch and--after doing some setup and configuring--the TTYs quit working.  Ctrl-Alt-F1, F2, etc. produces only a brightly-colored screen with random letters and numbers.  A re-install cured it, but only for a short while.
The symptoms suggest an issue with a video driver, but I don't know what driver is used when toggling to a TTY.
As I write this, I am running from Ubuntu, and all is well.
    Any ideas??

    Hello Neighbor,
Are you encountering these problems after starting an X session when you try to switch back to a console, or does this happen in the absence of Xorg?
What is your video architecture in that HP?  My Pavilion is Intel GM45 (intel915).  These types of problems went away for me about a year ago.  On Intel, if I recall correctly, it was imperative that you not load any framebuffer console mode kernel drivers in the presence of KMS.  The only module that can be loaded is the KMS Intel frame buffer support module.
You might check the modules you are forcing, and you might play with disabling KMS from the kernel command line.

  • Macbook Pro stuck in restart loop with fresh install

    Hello!
I have a Macbook Pro (Mid 2009) that I have been running Snow Leopard on up until now. I had been meaning to upgrade to Mavericks for a while, but had just never gotten around to it. Over the last month or so, my Macbook has been running really slow, hanging on the spinning beachball every few minutes for a few seconds (sometimes up to a minute or so). So I figured a clean start might be the best way to go, and while I'm at it, I might as well upgrade to Mavericks.
I backed up all my data, and then I created a Mountain Lion bootable usb (I had trouble making a Mavericks bootable usb from Snow Leopard, and since I had bought Mountain Lion for my desktop, I just decided to do a fresh install of that, and then upgrade to Mavericks). I had no problem booting to the usb, erased my hard drive and did a fresh install of Mountain Lion. However, after the install on the usb, my mac restarted and got stuck in a restart loop. It will chime, show the apple logo and spinning gears for a few seconds, then the gears stop spinning, and then the mac immediately restarts (this time displaying a message saying the mac has recovered from a shutdown in a number of languages), and the same thing happens again.
I was able to boot into the recovery partition, checked the permissions, found some that needed to be fixed, ran the repair permissions, verified the disk and was told the disk appears okay. Tried to then restart and same thing.
I have reset SMC, NVRAM, and none of these change anything. I booted in single user mode and ran fsck -fy, and recieved a message saying modifications were made, rebooted, same thing.
I have booted in verbose mode and the system restarts at the same point every time, right after displaying a message that says
SMC::smcReadKeyAction Error: (and then something with "BEMB", it goes by really fast so its hard to read exactly)
I have managed to boot into safe mode, but this has not made a difference. On one of my boots into safe mode, I went ahead and made a Mavericks bootable usb, and restarted the process: wiped the drive, installed mavericks, but I am in the exact same situation. I can still boot into safe mode.
I have seen some other issues that people have posted, but most involve the system freezing after the apple screen (not restarting) or do not involve freshly formatted HDs.
I'm just tying to find out if this is a hard drive issue, or if my mac itself needs to be retired. It has had a pretty long life (being 5 years old), and one of the RAM bays doesn't work (it is only running 4GB of ram, not sure if that can cause a problem with the boot cycle).
Sorry if thats a lot of information, I've been trouble shooting this for a few days. But thanks for any help you can offer!
    A strange note:
-when booting from the mavericks usb, I got stuck in the restart loop a couple of times. I managed to get past this by clicking the mousepad a few times right after the gears finished spinning. The mouse became visible, the apple screen shifted color a bit (went from a bluish gray tint to an orangish gray tint), the mouse became visible, and I got to the reinstall menu as normal. As far as I can tell the clicking may have been coincidental, but it was the only time I was able to boot the usb, and I wasn't going to risk restarting to test that, and then not be able to boot again.

Hey, thank you for your reply! I didn't have everything backed up, but I have a lot of my important stuff saved, though, so that's somewhat of a relief..
As far as my hard drive is concerned, would I have to send it in somewhere to get it fixed or would I just have to get a brand new one? If so, how much? Sorry if I seem a bit amateur, but this computer is my first personal computer, and I'm really lost without it!

  • I have a used iMac, HD wiped, OS 10.6.8 freshly installed w/Rosetta, Photoshop Elements won't start saying "could not complete because of missing or invalid personalization info." previous owner's name still there preventing initialing?

I have a used iMac, HD wiped clean, OS 10.6.8 freshly installed w/Rosetta, Photoshop Elements was installed but won't start saying "could not complete because of missing or invalid personalization info." is previous owner's name somehow still there preventing initialing?  How do I remove and install my own?  I don't understand as HD was completely wiped with no OS when I got it.

I think Adobe allows their software to be installed on 2 computers only. However, if say you buy another computer and wish to install PSE on the new computer ( effectively a 3rd computer as far as Adobe is concerned ) PSE needs to be properly uninstalled ie not simply by uninstalling using the operating system's uninstall process. It needs to be uninstalled using the Adobe uninstall process that is contained within the software.
You should then be given a prompt as to whether you will be reinstalling on the same computer or if you wish to remove altogether. If the latter, then all traces are removed and the software can be (re) installed on the new computer.
If, unknown to yourself, the software had been installed on 2 computers and although you or the previous may have wiped the hard drive clean, as far as Adobe is concerned the software is still ' registered / assigned ' to 2 computers.
If the previous owner bought a new computer and installed their PSE on it, wiped the hard drive clean without properly uninstalling/removing PSE thentherein probably lies the prblem.
As Allan Jones said, it 's probably worth your while to purchase your own copy.
    Hope this helps.

It should work. You can use live upgrade method but needed some space. If upgrade fails ( should not be ) you can always revert back to original setup.
But be ready for installation of same version of Oracle , if needed. No need to say backup is must for OS and Oracle.
You should well aware SMF before upgrdation.

  • I bought a used MacBook Pro and didn't come with an install disc.

I recently purchased a used MacBook Pro, it is the 2006 15.4inch, with 1.83GHz Intel core duo processor. It didn't come with RAM, a charger or the instal disc and the battery was dead. I installed RAM, bought a battery and charger and it booted up no problem, but I can't get past the login because I don't know the previous owners password. How do I get passed this point so? What OSX do I buy?

In the mean time try this: Run Mac Setup Assistant -
Restart the machine with the Command and S keys held down, and type the following commands into the prompt in order:
    mount -uw /
    mv /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb.old
    mv /var/db/.AppleSetupDone /var/db/.AppleSetupDone.old
    usr/libexec/create_nidb
    shutdown -h now
The Setup Assistant will reappear the next time your computer is turned on. Be sure to enter the commands properly. You will be able to setup your user name password, etc. You can then delete the previous owners User.

  • Namespace problem with freshly installed 8298731

We have a number of existing B2B installations patched to 8298731 that are working correctly. Recently we performed a clean install of a new server and patched it to 8298731 as well (upgrading to 10.1.2.3 in the process). It has been configured in the same way as the existing servers as far as we can tell.
The inbound EDIFACT messages from the new server all get "http://www.edifecs.com/xdata/100" as their namespace. Identically configured agreements with the same ecs/xsd files in the old servers yield correct namespaces, i.e. "urn:oracle:integration:b2b:FA335C8BE96E48F787F88928B5D21132".
As the same files are used the error should not be in SpecBuilder/Document Editor. We have not modified the files, but have tried uploading them fresh to both the new and one of the old installations. The files are fine.
The patch list from opatch displays only 8298731 for all the environments.
I have tried purging the new environment and configuring it again. I don't quite dare to purge the old working environments in order to test if that breaks them, as that would stop several development projects.
    What could be wrong?

We will try, I'll get back to you on that. It is on Linux (Red Hat 4, x86).
Meanwhile I have found that the ip/oem/edifecs directory differs between the installations. A difference that is easy to spot is that the JavaDoc in ip/oem/edifecs/XEngine/help/JavaAPI is for build 826 in the newly installed server (that doesn't work) and for build 837 in the ones that work. Binaries (such as .so files) differ as well.
Can it be that something is not updated in patch 8298731?
The old servers that work were all installed a long time ago and have been updated regularly with MLR patches. The new server that fails was installed, upgraded to 10.1.2.3 and then patched directly to 8298731. Perhaps that leaves some files unpatched, or perhaps the patching process failed without saying so?

  • Upgrade from leopard to snow leopard - or fresh install?

Hi - I'm running Leopard and would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I was wondering whether I'd be better off by reinstalling my entire system (ie, formating and erasing my hard drive) and start with a 'brand new' OS or if it is just fine to upgrade to Snow Leopard (with the mandatory files backup etc...). Sorry if this is a silly question - but with my PC, I used to do so couple of times a year...
    thx!!

Many here say that upgrading, versus erasing and installing, is the superior procedure. Others feel differently. I say just do what you prefer. Installs of either type can be excellent or not so good.
Elaborating, the processes leading to the final outcome should, in principle, lead to a good outcome in either case. But, things can go wrong either way. I am not going to elaborate much on the ways that things could go wrong either way. But, for the most part, they would have to do with the way migration works and the migration technique used, in the case of erase and install, and the existence of problems in the system existing prior to installation and deficiencies in the "upgrader" in the case of an upgrade.
I wouldn't lose much sleep here. As said, just do what you feel like. But, if my system was in good shape, then I'd go upgrade. And, if my system was in bad shape, then I'd go with an erase and install. In between, then I guess I'd toss a coin. But, however you go, be sure you leave yourself a way to get back where your started. My preference would be to have a bootable clone of my existing install on an external drive.
PS Yes, you do have the option of erasing and installing in Snow. It's just that you don't tick one box to erase and install and tick another to install (using the upgrade method).

    Hi Dude,
    Thank you for your response.
I didn't choose upgrade. I chose Fresh Installation.
Sorry for not giving background about the problem
The OEL 6.0 x32 was installed on a server with 64bit architecture, so the power of the server is not utilized well.
I want to completely replace the OEL 6.0 (32 bit) system with OEL 6.3 (64 bit)
Just I choose the mount point of /root and /boot and leave the all partitions with no formatting to save the old data
The above warning in the first post appears. How to avoid it?
