Using UPS Powerware 5125 with Mac

Hi. We have Powerware 5125 2200VA UPS for some small servers.
Is there a way to get these servers to shut down 5 minutes after blackout?
The UPS has only COM/serial-port, we bought an adapter to USB, but nothing pop ups in the power saver preference pane nor in system profiler besides the USB-> serial adapter. (10.8.4) The manufactorer only has software for windows and linux. Anyone with more experience from this than me?

I have had no success at all using serial to usb adaptors, this may be your issue.

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

How can i use external hard drive with mac and pc!

I've been using a Lacie external hard drive with my mac to keep the itunes library and other things since day one. Since i have a dvd with files for windows and an old pc without a dvd drive, i decided to copy and paste the content of the dvd to the external hard drive. The only problem now is that when i plug the external hard drive to pc, it won't open. I know it has to be formatted in a different way, but i need to find out the best solution!
Any idea?

You can format the external drive in Fat32 (which I don't recommend but is the most compatible between both platforms), or NTFS (which requires some work to get your Mac to recognize), or HFS+ (which requires special software on your PC so your PC can use it).

Using the data cable with Mac OS 10.5.4

Is it possible to use the data cable to connect my Nokia N70 to Mac OS X Leopard? I want to use it as a GPRS modem, and can do so via bluetooth, but get very slow speeds. Therefore, I'd like to try using the data cable.
There isn't a Mac version of PC Suite (Mac Suite?!), is there?

no, there's no Mac Suite product. however, i'd consider that a good thing since my fiancé's PC Suite has YET to be able to connect her to the internet via USB or Bluetooth (!@#$'ing windows). she's got an N82 and windows vista home [adjectives ad infinium] and the latest N-series pc suite.
for her, we had to switch to WalkingHotSpot. that and JoikuSpot are essentially the same product. while this isn't an option on the N70 (no wifi), i thought i'd at least point out that PC Suite on windows doesn't seem to work well either.
now, about that USB connectivity: yes, i would think it SHOULD work. i'll try settin up my n95 in this manner (though i use WalkingHotSpot or bluetooth modem as needed)
what version of macos are you running?

Using Printers and scanners with mac book

Ive just got a new mac book and need to scan images to use in word. My printer is a hewlett packard combined printer and scanner i can get it to print but cant get it to work as a scanner? ive tried using image director but the mac dosnt seem to recognise the source? any ideas?

I had a HP PSC1210 which I used with my old Fujitsu. After some initial 'challenges' with their software and a further update CD, I got it work adequately with that notebook. In fact, most HP PSCs I've had the misfortune to install on WinOS machines have offered different issues.
Migrating to the MacBook I tried once to get the thing running (as per HP instructions) but gave up in favour of an Epson CX4800 3 in 1 which installed with no problems. I'd have preferred to stick with HP, despite the problems (I like the changing of heads with each cartridge), but Epson remains the de facto printer for Macs.

Using Airdrop in iPad with mac book

I have an iPad 4th gen and mac book pro retina display. i just upgraded os in iPad to ios7; but however best i try cannot share files via AIRDROP.
I have kept teh Air drop on (with "everyone" selected in the control center) and also my mac book Air drop is perhaps on - have no method to find) but i cannot find my iPad on mac or the otherway round also.
can any one help me?

Can't use my apple displays with Mac mini

Hey everyone,
I've got a pretty strange problem, and I'm hoping you guys know of a solution to this.
Thing is, I can't use any apple displays with my Mac mini box. Whenever I try to do so I can see that the monitors are turned on, but the screen is completely black (doesn't flicker or anything like that). I know for a fact that both of the apple monitors I tried work.
However, monitors from other manufacturers work just fine! This has got me baffled, what is it about apple monitors that's got my Mac so confused ?

It's possible the analog VGA is working on your mini whereas the DVI digital output is broken. They are two completely different interfaces that just happen to share a common connector on the mini.
Can you possibly get your hands on another, non-Apple monitor that has a DVI input? I would say if all three are not working (two Apple monitors and a third-party one), then definitely something is up with the mini's DVI output.

What's the easiest way to use one bluetooth device with both Mac and iPhone? (Not a the same time.) I have it working with a voip phone on my mac (x-lite), or with the Bria voip app and the ATT line on my iphone. What I want is step by step how to accomplish the transition with the fewest clicks. I understand that I can't use it with both the Mac and the iPhone at the same time, and that's acceptable.
But it's tedious, and I would like to switch it back and forth several times a day.

You might be thinking of Crossover. Not sure if Windows Media Player works under it, but their website has info on requested and working apps.

Using a VGA monitor with Mac Pro: DVI to VGA adaptor cord & X1900 card

I will be purchasing the MacPro with the ATI Radeon X1900 XT. However, I want to continue using my dual Viewsonic CRT screens till the end of the year until I make the leap to a new LCD display. I know Apple sells a DVI to VGA connector and in fact I believe it to be included as an accessory.
Here is my question:
The graphics card I am buying (the X1900) is designated as a DUAL LINK DVI. The Apple DVI to VGA adaptor cord has a DVI -I SINGLE LINK male connector. Will this DVI-I single link connector properly mate to the female dual link connector on the X1900 graphics card? If it will, I'm probably in business. If it won't, does anyone have an idea for a workaround?

The DVI to VGA adapter works fine with the Radeon X1900XT (and the Geforce 7300GT and the Quadro FX4500).
The DVI to Video adaptor works on the Radeon, but not on the two Nvidia cards.

I have an (Apple item, iMac,model etc) running on (OS X 10.7.4).   I have just purchased a Seagate (size, model etc) external drive and would like to use it for (list uses).   Then ask specific questions.
If I can make this observation.    You appear to have gone out and bought a Seagate drive from somewhere without knowing what it will be used for.   They are not cheap.
It may be worth while to go and talk to whoever sold it to you and ask how you can best use it to meet your needs ... or if they will advise you how to set it up.
Most decent shops will oblige.
But if it was an on-line purchase then my original suggestion of talking to Seagate is probably the best line to take.

Bought my Mac Air earlier this year, it has no IR, I have two types of remotes here plastic n metal but cant connect. There is no IR on the macair so I know this is part of the problem, so is there a workaround or a way to pair on bluetooth...If not is there a remote for this macair that will work??

Using/Syncing Lightroom 2 with Mac and PC

I'm using Lightroom on a couple of machines. My main desktop is a Mac and a Mac laptop while on shoots. I have a partner in the office that works on a PC to work with clients, is there a way to sync the Lightroom catalog between machines, like between the Mac and the PC if they're on the same network?

I too am having difficulties with this. I used to have a PC desktop & laptop, and used sync products such as Microsoft Live Mesh and/or Foldershare to sync the catalog between my two machines.
I have recently replaced my laptop with a MacBook, and now have problems with synced catalogs. On my MacBook, it shows that it cannot find the picture files imported on my PC, and my PC cannot find picture files imported on my MacBook. Its ultimately due to the pathname associated with the picture (i.e. a MacBook does not have a C:\... in the path).
Is there any solution to this to allow the PC & Mac catalogs to sync between machines seamlessly?
