Using USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter for sharing printer with 3 computers

Hi all,
Opposed to using a print server, can I use a USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter to connect my Epson printer over my ethernet DSL router?
Thanks
Web dude

Yea, I thought about an adapter for the USB 2.0 port, but for a few bucks more, get the USB 3.0 adapter and be able to connect to Ethernet at Gigabit speeds!
Since Lenovo has not commented on the absence of an Ethernet port, I'm guessing that the slim height of the Yoga prevents it, unless you go to some funky slide-out module and connect at a 90 degree angle (which would be a worse design).  I had an old Thinkpad (or Dell?) with that design, and they are intermittent and subject to being broken off.
Bundling in the Ethernet Adapter would have been a nice touch.  Perhaps they were trying not to increase the Yoga's "above market" price further.

  • USB Ethernet Adapter for 2011 Mac Book Air with Lion OS 10.5.8

I just bought a new Mac Book Air with the Lion OS. I need a USB ethernet adapter for it. I am unclear if any of the Apple or non Apple products listed on line or EBay will work on this new computer with Lion OS. Please advise on purchasing wither a Apple product or a Ebay non Apple product which ar e half price.

Yep. Any such adaptor should work. All they need do is comply with basic USB 2.0 protocols and they will work on virtually any computer that has a USB 2.0 port.

  • 10GB Ethernet Adapter for RD210 and RD220

    Hi together,
i´m searching for a 10GB Ethernet Adapter for the RD210 and RD220 Servers.
Is the Lenovo 10Gbps Ethernet X520-DA2 Server Adapter by Intel (0C19486)
    compatible?
    Thx and Greetings

    Hi Andreas,
I checked into this for you. Unfortunately, we do not provide any drivers for this adapter with the RD210/RD220. I can't say for certain that it won't work, just that Lenovo does not have drivers for the device for use with those servers.

  • Add the Kanex USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter to your Mac Accessories assortment

Best Buy should get the Kanex USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (MFR # KU3CGBT) into its stores as soon as possible. Here are some arguments FOR this: (1) Demand for the new MacBooks is at an all-time high. A check for availability of these are various Best Buy stores shows them unavilable with extended backorder times. I know from people that work at Best Buy that as soon as stores are receiving these they're selling either by online purchase or in-store pickup.  (2) Apple does not make a competiting adapter and the price ($29.99) of this adapter is in-line with other third-party (Belkin, Insignia) adapters. (3) It is an essential adapter for business custmoers and students alike. My local store is located near a University and I can tell you that they do not allow students to have ANY wireless devices enabled in on-campus housing. This means that the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and this adapter are both going to be in VERY high demand. Judging from last year, you could not find a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter within a 150-mile radius of where I live because neither Best Buy or Apple Store was prepared for the increase in demand on this SKU and were both consequently sold out. (4) Kanex accessories generally have 4-5 star reviews which shows they are of sufficient quality and are well-received by customers.  (5) You will see USB-C showing up in other non-Apple devices like Chromebooks and PCs as adoption picks up later on this year and next year (example: Google's new flagship Chromebook, the Pixel, is already supporting it so I don't anticipate other OEMs being far behind on adding it to their newer models too).

This product is currently available on BestBuy.com, but I can certainly see where carrying a product like this in our stores would have advantages. Who else would like to see us carry the Kanex adapter in our stores?

How can i create a new usb connection (service)  on my iMac for sharing internet from my iPhone5 ( i seem have to deleted it )
i know its not a problem whit my carrier o data plan or sharing preferences on the ipone because when i use it un my laptop it works perfectly through
the usb and even works on the Imac through wifi and bluethood tethering but NOT through usb!!.
the problem is that trying to make it work i deleted the "profile" usb iphone on the network prefereces panel. Now i only have 3 options: ethernet / wifi / bluetooth
but not the usb iPhone i used to have.
And when i try to add a new one i dont get a USB option.
can some one help me please??
this is how it looks (after the bluetooth PAN i used to have USB iPhone option)

The question would be more appropriate in the Mac forums as it is not really related to the iPhone.

Now it won't - green network status symbol in Sys>Network on booth computer. Firewire port selected on the top, as been advice already
( http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2003/11/11/panther_internet.html )... IP Address is activ, but now it won't go on the net over my iBook with the DSL modem. Can't use the modem on my MacBook(SpeedTouch 330) Thats why ! But what is the problem now with the firewire connection ?
    2. Ethernet : Same problem as with firewire and i have this: Conect to server - "Registered User" - ask me for Password ? No Password is setup on booth computer, but it refuse to conect : "Conection Failed" Unknown user, incorrect password ! Strange stuff...

To connect to another computer on your home network as a registered user, you need to enter the administrator's name and password for the computer you are trying access.

  • Best practice for sharing data with model window

    Hi team,
what would the best practice for sharing data with a modal
window be ? I use a modal window to display record details from a
record list, but i am not quite sure how to access the data from
the components in the main application in the modal window.
    Any hints would be welcome
    Best
    Frank

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
    I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
    post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
    parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

  • The USB ethernet adapter for the macbook air is not working. Cable unplugged. How can I fix this for the recent patch 10.7.2?

I have recently purchased an ethernet usb adapter for the MBA and after a month it is not working. Says cable unplugged.
Now I have tried it with 2 other connections on other computers that are working and still no response. Many reviews or fixes online mention something with a 10.5.5 patch that seems quite outdated and do not work. Anyone figure out how to fix this or do I have a broken adapter?

I've used Apple's adaptor on a mini MBA without a problem.

  • Using an Ethernet Adapter for Internet with my Emac - getting IP problems

Hi, I used this Ethernet Adapter just fine with my laptop, and now have everything migrated to an EMac. Using 10.4.11, so everything is the same. But I get strange drops (Gmail even told me I had a 'flaky' internet connection) and have to launch Network and am usually told (under Network Status):
Ethernet Adapter (enl) has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet.
I can sometimes get it working by hitting the Renew DHCP lease or Configure IPv6 and Apply Now. Sometimes that doesn't work, but if I switch to another User it starts working correctly, and is fine when I return to my preferred user. Sometimes nothing works until I restart. It's frustrating, because it is time consuming to fix and I never know when I am going to be dropped. This never happened with my laptop, so I am pretty sure it's something in my Network pane.
Thanks, ahead of time, for any suggestions.
    Any suggestions?

I did reinstall the software, but your question got me to thinking ...
I had the problem again after I turned off the computer for an hour, to do some RL stuff, and when I turned it on I got the "self-assigned" IP report again. The IP6 was off, so that wasn't the only issue. I did a renew lease thing, which did nothing on my usual User side, but when I switched to the other User it worked again.
So I'm wondering ... the User side I am mostly using was the one that migrated over from the Laptop. The one that tends to turn it on is the one that had a User installed on it already. Maybe some setting migrated from the Laptop. Perhaps I should try deleting the software, and reintalling it from the CD. It seems to be affecting the IP selection, somehow.
The other thing is maybe I should just put in a manual setting on the IP, the one the dongle seems to like. I'm wondering if IPs are being reassigned by the router in the main house and that's why mine goes bonkers for no reason. Only thing is ... that never happened when it was just on the laptop.
Hey, thanks, Kappy, for all your help. I know it's tough when you can't see exactly what I'm talking about.

  • Configure ethernet adapter for MacBook Air

We use a dock with a MacBook Air.  Both were purchased about six months ago.  The dock has an ethernet port.  Under the Network Preferences I only see a wireless connection. Will I see the ethernet connection when docked?  If not how can I be sure the ethernet is being used?
    Gregg

It could depend on the dock's compatibility with Lion/Mountain Lion. Some ethernet connectors will not function with recent changes in the OS. Even Apple's own USB ethernet adapter is incompatible. Users find that only the Thunderbolt-ethernet adapter will work.

  • Using Airport Extreme as a wireless adapter for an xbox 360 and/or computer

I have a wifi network that is successfully broadcasting internet, i also have a spare Airport Extreme that i would like to use as a wireless adapter for my xbox 360.
My Existing network is being broadcast from a D-Link modem so it doesn't support "extending a network" with airport extreme
What i want to achieve is:
Wifi Internet being broadcast by d-link, received by Airport Extreme WIRELESSLY, then sent via a WIRE to my xbox 360's ethernet port so that i can access internet on my xbox 360.
    Unfortunately:
My Xbox 360 doesn't have built in wireless
Connecting to the d-link network wirelessly (with the airport extreme) doesn't seem to give me a wired internet connection (from the airport extreme)
I don't want to extend the network wirelessly
    Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance to any users who know how to solve my (probably simple) problem

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.

  • How to use AE for wireless printing with Ethernet Printer?

    Hi all,
I have been using my AE connected to a printer via USB for printing but have now replaced my printer with another model that only has Ethernet connections.
Can someone please explain how to set up the AE so that I can print? I can get so far but seem to be doing something wrong somewhere. Here's my setup:
Mix of Macs and PC's using Airport Time Capsule for wireless network. Currently setup as 'Create a Wireless Network'
1 x b/g Airport Express - now with Ethernet connection between AE and Printer. Currently connected as 'Join a Wireless Network'
Via 'Add Printer' I have selected 'Internet Printing Protocol - IPP' as the Protocol and added the IP address of the Airport Express '10.0.1.10' as the Address. This seems to connect OK but all I get is printer paused.
Any idea where I am going wrong please?
    Many thanks, Mike

    Sorry you are having difficulties.
Suggest that you first get the printer working with your AirPort Extreme in case the configuration on the Express may not be quite right.
I'm not familiar with the Epson products, but I do use an HP ethernet all-in-one device.
The basic "must do's" on the device include entering the printers MAC address and assigning a fixed IP address that the printer will always will receive using a DHCP Reservation on the AirPort Extreme. My all-in-one gets 10.0.1.25 It sounds like you may have done this.
After installing the printer software from the disc, you go into the Mac's System Preferencesj > Print and Fax and click the small + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list. The HP printer appeared immediately as an available printer, so click it to highlight it and then click Add at the lower right. It's been flawless since it was installed about 3 months ago.
You'll need to Add the device for each Mac computer on the network. I don't use PC's but imagine that Add Printer or Add New Device would be the way to go here.
Sometimes it helps to call the manufacturer and endure the hold for 15-20 minutes waiting for the manufacturer's tech support people.

  • IPhoto Network Port Selection for Sharing - Wireless vs. Ethernet 1GB

I am sharing iPhoto 6.0.3 across the house between a Mac Mini Intel Duo (Media PC) and a Mac 20" Intel Duo (Desktop).
I initially had the sharing via wireless network, but with my large 8 megapixel files and 10,000 photos, sharing was impossibly slow to use. I use the wireless network to connect to the internet DSL router for all of my computers.
I recently installed a 1GB ethernet cable from one end of the house to the other (a six hour job!) and found that the speed problems were fixed nicely. However I have a problem:
    PROBLEM:
When I boot my Mac 20", it seems to default to the wireless connection for sharing iPhoto - which is too slow to work. The only way I can get it to 'connect' via the 1GB ethernet after a reboot is to unplug and replug the ethernet cable, which seems to 'transfer' the iPhoto connection from wireless to ethernet 1GB. Can someone please tell me how to force iPhoto, iTunes, and File Sharing to use the 1GB ethernet, and to leave the Airport connection just for the internet? Thank you.

    Grayner:
Have you gone into the Sharing Preference Pane's Internet section and looked at the options for internet sharing and the various ethernet connections available. I happened upon that section but don't know much about it.
Also what are the options in the Network Preference Pane?
