Using usb adaptor for internet ?

I have an MBP now and want to buy a new MBA. I do not have access to wireless. Therefore I have use it with the usb adaptor. Will the MBA run considerably slower via the usb adaptor than than my MBP with ethernet connection? Thanks in adva

I don't think you'll notice the difference depending on what you're doing. You're still limited by your internet download speeds which typically are much slower than any of the link speeds.
If you now have gigabit ethernet than link speed is slower. Somewhere in the 400+ mbs (pulling from my aging memory). If you had 100 mbs ethernet then it's faster.

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

  • Dual Connection; Force use of Wireless for Internet, Wired for Networking

    Hello,
I have 2 connections at work: 1) ethernet to our local server/network/internet, and 2) wireless internet (through my phone's hotspot).  Our connection is very spotty through our network right now, so I want to use my
wifi for internet and the wired to network only.
I've tried manually entering the priorities in the adapter metrics (5 for the wifi and 15 for the ethernet). They still show 9 for wifi and 10 for ethernet as before (netstat -r).
I also found in another forum where to change the connection orders in Advanced Settings (Change adapter settings>Alt>Advanced>Advanced Settings, then move order).
Niether of these solutions have worked.  I have to physically unplug my ethernet to get it to use the wireless connection. Webpages will sit there forever and then only half load or not even at all, but when I unplug and hit refresh, they pop right up.
    Any help is appreciated

    Hi,
The adapter metrics should work. Please take a try to modify the metrics on both of the two adapters, and then recreate the two connections.

  • How many ghz should I get if I plan on using my IPAD2 for internet access, email, facebook and games for my children?

How many ghz should I get if I plan on using my IPad2 for internet access, email, facebook and games for my daughters children?

Ghz is the CPU speed and that is fixed for each iPad model.
The GB is the number of Gigabytes of storage.
I had a 32G iPad1 and filled it up with 5000 songs, 20,000 photos and about 50 apps.  It doesn't sound like you will need anything larger than that.  If you are just talking about a few dozen apps and email, the 16G version should be adequate.

  • Can I use a Vodafone USB Dongle with my apple IPad 1st Generation if I have a USB adaptor for my IPad

Hi there just wondering does anyone know if I can use a Vodafone USB Dongle with my apple IPad 1st Generation 16gb (WiFi only) if I have a USB adaptor, will the IPad !st generation support a A Vodafone Dongle(Irish network)

You cannot plug a USB dongle into an iPad using the USB part of the iPad Camera Connection Kit.
The Camera Connection Kit is for connecting cameras - hence the name.
You'd need to get a MiFi device to use 3G data via WiFo on your iPad.

  • USB Adaptor for older char

    Hi,
I have a new ZEN player. The complete AC adpator is $29.99 plus shipping. All it is, is a 5 volt charger like the one I have for my nomad 2, nomad Zen Xtra and nomad Zen touch plus an USB adaptor. Well, I have lots of the old 5 v 2.4 amp wall chargers, just looking to purchase the little?2 inch adaptor?for cheaper than $30. Does creative sell it separate? Can you give a guy a break that continues to purchase a new mp3 player from creative every couple of years? What would be cool would be to be able to buy it for about $5, so I could get 2 of them, one for home, one for work.

Creative is not known for selling parts that are a component of a product. If you have multiple chargers and are familiar with wiring, you could probably make up your own adapter using an inline jack to connect to the barrel plug from the charger, using a USB mini-B cable.

  • USB connection for internet

I have a BB 8830 curve.  I have Alltel. I currently use an air card for when I travel for internet.  I would like to use the USB connection on my BB to connect to the Internet. How do I do that?

To browse internet using BlackBerry device your need to configure your device as IP Modem. Follow the below steps to do so -
    1. Connect Your BlackBerry
Make sure your BlackBerry is connected by USB cable, and launch BlackBerry Desktop Manager. This is necessary for using the BlackBerry as an external modem. You cannot use BlackBerry as a modem unless you have BlackBerry Desktop Manager running in the background!
    2. Verify The Modem Driver Exists
Go to Control Panel -> Phone & Modem Options. In the Modems tab, you should see a new "Standard Modem" on a new port (such as COM6 or COM11).
    3. Verify The Modem Driver Is Functioning
Go to Control Panel -> Phone & Modem Options. In the Modems tab, you should see a new Standard Modem on a new port (such as COM6 or COM11). Click Properties -> Diagnostics -> Query Modem. You should see the following:
    ATQ0V1E0 - OK
    AT+GMM - BlackBerry IPmodem
    AT+FCLASS=? - OK
    AT#CLS=? - OK
    AT+GCI? - OK
    AT+GCI=? - OK
ATI1 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
ATI2 - Research In Motion / BlackBerry IPmodem
    some more....
    4. SPECIAL CONFIGURATION STEP
Go to Control Panel -> Phone & Modem Options. In the Modems tab, you should see a new Standard Modem on a new port (such as COM6 or COM11). Click Properties -> Advanced and add  the following Extra initialization commands for T-mobile USA (for yor carrier contact your carriers support and know the 'internet APN' and put in Blue marked place
    +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
Call your carrier to confirm the command
    5. Add A New Internet Connection
Close the Phone and Modem Options and the Control Panel. Create a new connection with Start -> Connect To -> Show all connections -> Create a new connection.
    1. Click Next
    2. Select "Connect To The Internet" then Next
    3. Select "Set up my connection manually" then Next
    4. Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" then Next.
    5. Check only the Standard Modem (if prompted).
    6. Give the connection a name such as "BlackBerry Modem", then Next.
    7. On the next screen, pick one of the following phone numbers *99#
    8. Use the user name and password that is used by your carrier
    6. Disable IP Header Compression
Make sure TCP/IP Properties (Advanced) "Use IP Header Compression" checkbox is NOT checked. To verify this, do these steps:
    1. Start Menu->Network Connections->"BlackBerry Modem"
    2. Click Properties Button
    3. Click Networking Tab
    4. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"

  • Distortion using USB port for audio output

I did some research in the Mac Mini community regarding the problem I'm experiencing but most of the posts were several years old so I thought I would start a new thread.
I am using one of the USB ports on my 2011 Mac Mini (2.3GHz, i5) to feed a High Resolution Technologies Streamer II USB DAC which then connects to my audio systems integrated amplifier. The issue I'm experiencing is that I am getting distortion when I first open iTunes and start a music track playing. I can hear the music but it is overlayed with this static like distortion. It seems to happen specifically when I first wake the computer from sleep and open iTunes and try to play a track. If I close and reopen iTunes and start a track playing again the distorion usually goes away and all tracks after the initial distortion play fine. I've done troubleshooting with regards to the HRT USB DAC and made sure the Streamer II is operating on its own USB Bus and I've tried a powered USB Hub to feed only the Streamer II but the distortion continues. So aside from the obvious hardware malfunction possibilities I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thank you,

well i dont have the cable yet i just was wondering if that would work. Yes it has bluetooth but i was told you cant use the bluetooth for a modem. Dont know why the phone has the option. How would i set up that option?

  • I charge my I shuffle using USB charger for my I pad, now it won't charge but it will charge a different I shuffle

i cannot charge I shuffle, I use USB Port from I pad , I can charge another I shuffle, but not this one any more

    Start by reading through http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2634
Are the charger nd cable original Apple parts or third-party?  There have been a lot of problems ith third party cables and chargers since iOS 7 - checks for compatibility with Apple specs.
Try another charger and cable to see if that makes a difference.

  • Can I use my 3G for internet tethering

I have an iphone 3G with web bolt on. Can I use it for internet tethering as when I go into settings ther seems no way of turning the tethering on?

No, your 3G web bolt on is different to a tethering bolt on. You need to call your network provider and they normally will let you try tethering for a limited period of time before they charge you. I found it quite slow and unreliable, not worth the money. Youre better off getting your network to send you an internet dongle instead.
