Using USB instead of TCP

HI All,
Recently, I have been using PXI for realtime data acquisition. I'm presently using PXI-8175 and find that there are USB ports available. What exactly are these ports for?
I am just wondering, if I can use USB for transfer of data from Labview to PXI instead of using TCP which would support high data transfer rate.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Aravind

I want to make sure to clarify this point. USB is a serial
communication method talking to many devices which has an inherent
large amount of jitter and communication overhead. Doing USB communication
adds to the jitter of the system which is a bad thing for RT systems. This is the
reason we recommend using TCP/IP for your RT communication.
As to your question of why we have the USB ports on the controller, they are used for the Windows variants of our PXI embedded controllers. You'll notice that most of our PXI controller offerings have both a Windows XP and LabVIEW RT variant.
Hope this helps,
-Adam

  • ProDesk 600 create recovery disks - use usb instead

We have just received some HP Prodesk 600 desktop pcs - K1t26AW#ABA - running Win 7 Pro 64 bit - and would like to make system recovery media.  The HP program installed has only the option to make recovery disks and requires dual layer DVD's to be used.   I have had  other HP products that allow recovery media to be created either on DVD or usb.  Is there any software fix or utility to allow us to create the ProDesk 600 recovery media on USB instead of dual layer DVD's?  We have no dual layer DVD's and have no other use for them so we don't want to order a pack and have most of it laying around unused.  Thanks

You can clone the partition to an external usb disk with a cloning utility program. It won't have any effect on the one time usb or DVD recovery media creation limitation.
If I may give a word of advice:
Create a recovery usb flash drive. It is reliable, fast and durable.

I've had to disconnect my wifi network on the printer.  however the printer will not register the change, and refuses to stop wifi blue light blinking, ordering me to turn on wifi to operate printer, which I can't do.  I can't get the wireless demand to turn off so I can print with an usb cord.  my mac does not have a disc drive.  i've gone through all my other support options and desperately need your assistance.  thanks so much!  jazz

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that you trying to use a USB connection instead of wireless, with your HP Officejet pro 8600 plus. I am happy to help!  The printer can be reset to factory defaults by selecting Setup Menu > Tools > Restore Factory defaults > Yes. Once this is done, if you had the software installed on your Mac as a wireless connection already, you will need to Uninstall the Printer Software, and then re-install the software, by downloading the full feature software and drivers. If you do not know the Operating System you are using, please visit this website. • Reconfigure wifi to use USB instead of PCIe adapter

Is there a way in OS X 10.9.1 to reconfigure the OS to point the Wi-Fi connection, the one that appears in the top bar and connect automatically, at a USB wi-fi adapter instead of the built-in card?
Right now I'm using a USB Wi-Fi adaptor, but this requires using the Realtek Wireless Network Utility to connect and manage wireless networks, and appears as a seperate connection in Network Preferences.

The PCK (Partner Connectivity Kit) is a solution provided by SAP for companies who wants to communicate with another company that have SAP XI but don’t want to install their own SAP XI, basically it’s an installation of an small SAP XI system with most of the functionality disabled and it is used as an endpoint for message transfer between the organization with XI and the partner company.

  • No FW! Can use USB instead?

While Pro owners still have one last measly remaining FireWire port, MacBook owners are out of luck. In order to safely recover from failures, transfer files and the like, will Apple finally certify the USB port for use of the computer in Target Disk Mode?
I know, I know, you would need a special cable to plug one Mac to another, but at least you could place a clone of the system on an extenal USB HDD, and hopefully be able to boot from it if the need arose,

I'm actually getting sick of the whinging about this online. It's not that big a deal unless you have multiple Macs and need to sync them frequently. If you need to migrate from an old Mac to a new unibody MacBook, all you need to do is put your old Mac's hard drive into a cheapo external USB enclosure and use Migration Assistant to transfer your files.
I've been doing this for years. It's just about the same speed as firewire, and you can have Migration Assistant treat it as "another drive on this Mac" or "another Mac" -- It doesn't matter. It will work.
So the big adjustment you have to make is pulling your old Mac's hard drive out and putting it into an enclosure. Seriously... It's not brain surgery.
Yes, provided you have such a drive case available to you. If you don't and, say, you are upgrading from a G4 series of computers which use a different interface, then you are left with a USB case that may be somewhat of a waste to have. A Firewire cable is quite a bit cheaper than a USB case.
Now, that being said, I do see the value in firewire for people with older video equipment or firewire-only backup solutions. I see the value for people who rely on TDM to syn their multiple Macs every day. If you're that user, then you can grab the new White MacBook, or pick up a MacBook Pro. There are plenty of refurb MBPs available from Apple for close to the price of the unibody MacBook.
I think that you are maybe forgetting about those of us who would like the small sized and lighter weight of the current Aluminum MacBooks and want to use them with audio interfaces that are predominately Firewire. If you add these people to those who want the speed and dependability of firewire for back-ups to their existing hard disks, video editing with their current cameras and the situation that you mentioned where you need to synch multiple computers of various ages (G4, G5 and Intel based machines) this lack of firewire is a much bigger problem.
As a consumer-level laptop, most people whom the MacBook is aimed at won't need firewire. If you're prosumer, and need firewire, it exists in other options.
But those options are not available (readily) to me.

  • Trying to use USB web cam instead of iSight but iMovie won't switch

Hi, everyone. I need to record voice and video from people sitting at right angles to the computer, so I can't use the built in iSight in my monitor. I bought a Mac compatible Logitech QuickCam VisionPro with USB cable, but I can't get iMovie to use it instead of the iSight. The System Profiler shows the Logitech camera listed under USB devices, but when I try to Import video in iMovie, I only have the Built-in iSight to choose from for cameras. Is there anyway to do this? Or do I need a different camera? Or can I use another program to record the video/audio, and then import that into iMovie? I don't need to do any editing, just burn DVDs with iDVD. Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem, cos sometimes imovie won't let you add more titles when you try to take them straight from the title menu. I happened to me mostly when the clip itself is quite short. While imovie won't let you overlay several titles, you surely can have several titles, one after the other, in your project. To do this, I used a little trick: Add some small clip to the end of your project. Doesn't matter what, you're gonna delete it again anyway. You can then add another title to this additional clip. Then you just drag this title from there to your actual clip and place it where you want it. And then you do the next one(s) the same way until you have all your titles where you want them. At the end you just delete the "helping" clip again. It might be a bit complicated way of doing things, but it worked for me.

  • Using USB-6008 software timimg Generate waveform

I am using USB-6008 device. Base on it's User Guide, this device on support software-timed and maximum update rate is 150 Hz.
By place a time delay VI for 1ms, I have a 1.660Hz sine signal. Is this wrong for place a time delay VI for software timing?
I would like to generate a 60 Hz signal by using software-timed VI on USB-6008 device. How should I do?
    Thanks a lot.

    DephinTW,
The update speed of the USB-6008 is largely dependent on the speed of
you computer as well as anything else on your USB bus. If you are using
an older computer or have other USB devices on the bus, you may not
achieve this rate. In order to output a 60Hz signal, the minimum output
sampling rate is 120Hz. This corresponds to an 8.3 msec. delay between
samples. Instead of using the "Wait" VI, you should try using the "Wait
Until Next ms Multiple" VI. Place this in parallel with your
generation. This will synchronize the output with multiples of the PC
clock, rather than waiting for a fixed amount of time, irrespective of
    code and USB overhead.

  • How to install windows 7 using usb as the bootcamp doesnot have the option of creating a bootable usb. please help

I have an intel based mac with 10.6.8 mac os x. How to install windows 7 using usb as the bootcamp doesnot have the option of creating a bootable usb. please help

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
If you don't have any of these Macs, you can't install Windows through a USB drive. Instead, buy Windows on a DVD. Follow Apple's steps > http://support.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1519/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6. pdf

  • Can I use USB 3.0 to network a MacBook Pro to a Mac mini?

I'm looking for a way to have a very high speed NAS.  USB 3.0 offers the potential for much better performance than 1Gb ethernet.  I've seen a NAS product that has both 1Gb ethernet and a USB 3.0 connection, however it requires a reboot to switch interfaces.
So, I'm considering attaching storage to a Mac mini server, in the hopes that I could use a USB 3.0 crossover cable to connect my MacBook Pro to the mini when docked.  Hopefully, I could then achieve SS USB speeds while docked, but still have slower Wifi access to my storage when undocked.
I'll grant you that 1Gb ethernet when docked is a lot better than Wifi, but I'm trying to remove all the bottle necks here.
I've found a website selling "USB 3.0 Super-Speed A/A Cable Crossover" cables.  However, they specifically claim that there is no OS that supports using USB 3.0 in crossover mode for file transfers.  They sell the cable as an engineering debug and test cable only.
Has anyone gone down this road?
I don't suppose I could create a thunderbolt network instead? Target Disk Mode is not an option.  I don't want my server going offline.

You probably can't use the PB display at all--there are likely just too many differences between the MBP and the PB. One place you can go to check out display compatibility is PowerBook Medic:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/
You can look up replacement displays for both the PB and the MBP. My guess is that they will be different.
It sounds like the disgruntled someone owes you a paid repair to your Mac.
    Good luck!

  • DTP plugin can't connect to 10g DB that uses SERVICE_NAME instead of SID

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a connection to a database that uses a service name instead of a SID (see below for the TNSNAMES entry. It gets an ORA-12505 error because the listener does not know of SID given in connect descriptor. The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    tdc-sun-77-vip.unix.tdc.xxxyyy.com:1521:SRV_TMS_TNV.
My understanding is that the url for JDBC for service name should use a "/" instead of a ":" to separate the port from the service name. The dialog for creating the connection in SQL Developer has radio buttons to choose between SID and Service Name, so it can generate the url appropriately. The wizard for the Eclipse plugin does not have this option and the plugin always uses a ":" as the separator.
If anyone else has encountered this and gotten around it I would appreciate knowing how.

  • Upon using USB Headsets the audio gets distorted

    Hi
I have used USB headset in other laptops including HP but have never faced this problem. But I get this problem with the new notebook, and after a few minutes of use the audio quality automatically gets distorted and loud.
This is not a problem with the USB headsets since I have been using them since long without any problem, and they dont give me any distortion with other notebooks even today.
    Please advise.

The headset has an independent C-Media audio chip that accepts USB on one side and has it's own AC97/DAC. Because are 2 devices (one USB controller and one AC97 sound chip) apears in 2 places in Windows devices! For more info look here:
    http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/usb_audio
CM06-F+/ L+ is a highly integrated single chip USB audio solution. All essential analog modules are embedded in CM06F+/L+, including 8CH DAC and earphone buffer, 2CH ADC, microphone booster, PLL, regulator, and USB transcei'ver.
I would correct the affirmation made by somebody that USB audio devices are no soundcards - YES there are soundcards with an USB controller instead of the usual PCI one! The digital data flows on USB instead of PCI to the audio controller that send it to the integrated DAC's and to the headsets.
So trying to use the USB headset via the X-Fi is like you are trying to use the on-board soundcard via the X-Fi...

  • Migration Assistant Using USB

This is an addendum to a question I had re: using either a Time Machine or Super Duper backup as the source for running Migration Assistant on a new Mini. I was told I could use either one and that is great. Except I realized that both backups are on a partitioned USB2 external drive. The drive is FW400 capable, so I could get an 800 to 400 adapter but do I have to? My backups are made using USB2. Why can't MA work using it? I've read everything on MA and no mention of USB. Just FW, ethernet and wired/wireless network. Don't want to start a migration that will fail. Especially on a new machine.

Migration Assistant will work absoluetly fine with a USB external drive containing TM or clone backups. firewire and ethernet are always mentioned only when talking about migrating directly from one computer to another. you can not connect two computers directly by a USB cable due to limitations of USB technology. but you can by a firewire one. this is not an issue if you are migrating using an external drive. of course firewire is faster so if your drive and computer have firewire ports I would suggest using those instead of USB.

  • Changing the Read NMEA GPS SubVI.vi to work on Mac OS X using usb?

    Hi,
Any help or advice on this would be appreciated.
I am using Mac OS X Tiger on an ibook G4 with Labview 7.1. The ibook only has either firewire or usb so I got a usb GPS receiver (BU-303) from Globalsoft http://www.usglobalsat.com/item.asp?itemid=11&catid=13. Their website includes a device driver for the mac and an application that allows me to view the GPS output such as lattitude, longitude, speed etc. from their application.
I would like to try and use Labview instead to plot this information because it will allow me to log this information as it changes and generally give me more flexibility. I came across a VI that was designed to work with a serial connection for windows

I would like to try to adapt this somehow to work on my Mac with usb, if someone could suggest what steps to take or things I should consider and post them, that'd be a great help to me,
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

I suspect it's too much to ask that they have a development kit that you could steal code from?
Do they have a command line application?  If so, you could pipe the output to a file or to labview directly.
USB isn't as easy to work with as serial, so building a driver fron scratch is not something for the faint of heart.
Have you considered a usb to serial converter and use a serial gps?
    BTW, good taste in computers.
