Using Variable Bit Rate Encoding (VBR) and playback issues
I have been using VBR when making mp3 for download to "Soundclick.com" in the past, resently, I started to hear complaints from listeners, that my mp3 were garbled, although it is not consistent so, it is true, and I came to believe it was because of VBR. I re-encoded the files in question, and so far the problem has gone away.
The question is this due to OSX 10.5.6, or might it be something with soundclick, I don't know; but it did seem to become evident after loading the OSX 10.5.6 update. I can't find a way to correspond with Apple Development, so I thought to post here. I am also going to pursue this with "Soundclick.com"; VBR seems to be an efficient way to encode, and I would like to keep using it.
If anyone know about this it would be cool to hear for you!
God Bless,
ron c

Is the problem inherently answered in your question?
Why use VBR when you bounce? It's a compromise solution, and has it's own problems. What are soundclicks tech specs? Work to those, getting the file as big as you can, it takes moments to bounce multiple files of varying bit depth etc to see how far you can stretch things before you're over-budget on the file size.

Variable bit rate audio assets cannot be imported
Extracted some ac3 files from personal content DVDs I authored and burned myself (using DVDSP) to make a compilation. When I try to import these 5.1 ac3 assets, DVDSP is refusing stating: "Variable bit rate audio assets cannot be imported." These ac3 files play fine in QuickTime and other programs that handle ac3 files.
Can anyone help?Hi:
Please give us some info about the original movie/audio formats and what encoding presets you used in Compressor.

Variable bit rate on importing bug in iTunes 7.5
I have tried importing a new CD into iTunes 7.5, installed this week as an update to the previous version.
Now each track imported comes in at variable bit rates. I cannot seem to stop this. I tried to create a custom import rate without VBR but it ignored it anyway.
Is there a fix for this? 7.4.x and earlier versions was fine.
MarkApparently it is related to the new QuickTime AAC encoder.

"Variable Bit Rate Audio Not Supported"
Hello -
I have several AC-3 files - sourced from satellite broadcast downloads - surround 5.1, 448kbps/48kHz - that I cannot add to DVD SP. When I attempt to import them into the assests pane, DVD SP reports they are incompatible giving the error message in the subject.
Any ideas?I too have noticed this today when trying to import a new CD. Every track has a variable bit rate despite not requesting it.
The older version of iTunes did not do this, just this new 7.5. I cannot seem to resolve. I tried to create a custom import without VBR but it ignored this too and did it anyway.
Apple, please help! This must be fixable somehow! -
How to set bit rate of audio and video
I want to set the bit rate of audio and video (48,96.128 kbps) at the time of live streaming . i m not using the flash media live encoder because i have to make it as web applicaton. can any one tell me how to set bit rate.
When you're using Flash Player to capture and encode video, your only control is Camera.setQuality():

Dropped frames while using multi bit rates in Flash Media Encoder 3
I’m using the Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3 to stream live video to a host computer at 200 Kbps. At the same time, I’m saving a copy to my hard drive at 350 Kbps. The live stream signal seems to be ok. The saved stream has dropped frames. Total bandwidth is about 615 Kbps. I’ve looked at performance marking software to see if my hard drive is slow and to check my CPU speed. I can’t see what I need to save a better copy and still keep the live stream.
Is this just a need for more CPU speed?
The encoder is on a Dell Optiplex 360 Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @2.53GHz with 3GB RAM. The hard drive is a 152GB IDE ST3160815AS. It has write caching enabled on the disk.I saw your request for the log file in a different post. This is one of them that was made from my encoding. I don't see any answers in it.

Compressor: setting max bit rate for VBR audio
Hi,
I am using Compressor 3 to transcode DV to H.264. I want to encode the audio to AAC VBR wtih a max bitrate of 256. Under the Settings tab, under audio, for VBR there is a slider from good to best. what does this mean in terms of max bit rates? How can you use this slider in a meaninful way?
There is a setting for Average Bit Rate, where you can select a value. do we konw what the max bit rate would be?
thanks
danGood question about the slider…and I really don't know the answer. Why don't you try a test: crank it to one extreme and then the other with a representative source file and see what impact it actually makes on the properties of the respective output files.
Good luck.

How Can I Make Encore Create a Bluray Image that uses a Bit Rate that Really Fills The Disc?
I have searched and browsed but have not seen this specific issue.
I realize that if you leave the bit rate alone, Encore will use the best bitrate. In my experience, it doesnt. I have also found that the Disc Info on the Build tab is never correct. The final transcoded size of the ISO is always very different from what is shown.
With the current disc I am making, I am encoding 4 HD m2t video files that total 20 GB on disk. The total running time is about 1hr 50m. Leaving everything set to defaults, the final size of the ISO file is 12 GB. I would like the final size to be around 20GB. I would expect that Encore would do this automatically. Changing bitrate in the project settings and re-transcoding does not change the final size. If I manually set the encoding, the size does change but since the Disc Info is unusable, it is excruciating trial and error. You have to pick settings that you think will work, wait hours for it to transcode, then it is way to big or way to small. I cant figure out how to get it to my target size.
Also, when I transcode the files, Encore never lists the bit rates of the transcoded files. The field is always blank.
It may also be note worthy that I have to first transcode the files, then build the disc. If I dont do that, the transcoding will hang. Even when I do separate the steps, sometimes when I build the disc from the transcoded files, the build of the disc still hangs.
I am running a 3 GHz Quad CPU with 4 GB of Ram in 32 bit XP Pro. I have 5 physical drives of 500 GB each. I also use separate physical drives for the source files vs the target ISO. Disk space is not an issue.
Also, is there any timeframe for when Adobe is going to release a new update? I have also run into other problems on this forum like the wonderful error 6 and the hanging transcoding, although my solutions to both problems were different than what was posted. It is all hit or miss.
Does anyone know if Adobe going to add a feature like on other disc authoring programs where you click a Fit to disc button and it then calculates the best bit rate for the specified disc size? That would make me very happy.
I would appreciate any help here.Encore does have a fit-to-disc feature, called "automatic transcoding", which chooses the bit rate based upon how much media there is to encode, how much room is currently on the disc, and applying format-legal restrictions (minimum and maximum bit rates allowable by the format).
So for instance, 30 minutes of video will never fill a disc because the required bit rate to do so would be higher than allowable by the format. -
PlayCenter3: variable bit rate: need to know numerical equival
I am using PlayCenter 3 on my desktop computer and always rip MP3s using VBR (the setting: highest quality). In short, I need to know the information that that setting represents; specifically, the guaranteed minimum bit rate. On my notebook I must use other MP3 software because I do not own a Soundblaster for the notebook. Since I am giving my desktop to my parents I need to know the numerical equivalent of the highest quality VBR setting so that I may enter that into the options of whatever ripping software I finally decide to use.
I learned about *guaranteed minimum bit rate* through reading iTunes' options box.
THANKS! :-)Is the problem inherently answered in your question?
Why use VBR when you bounce? It's a compromise solution, and has it's own problems. What are soundclicks tech specs? Work to those, getting the file as big as you can, it takes moments to bounce multiple files of varying bit depth etc to see how far you can stretch things before you're over-budget on the file size.

hello everyone,
I've been compressing dvd using compressor at 7.8CBR for my pass projects & it looks great. However on my current project I can't pull a good compression due to the large LCD screen in the background so I have to try vairalbe bit rate with min 6.5 & max 8.0 two passes & it looks great.
Does anyone has any similar experience?
I heard that compressor's VBR is not good so I 've never tried but to my understanding, it's better to do 2passes since the software would analyze the movie better.
just some note.
JP
ps: can't wait to upgrade to fcp studio2It's said the Compressor 2.3 has solved all problems related with VBR in past versions.

Max Bit Rate of Audio and Video supported on iPod?
Hey
I've been having issues putting certain videos on my ipod... I've made sure the video bit rate is under the max.
However, I'm not sure... does the max bit rate of the audio played during videos have to be under 160 for the acc audio?
I have it at 192... which has worked with other videos, but not some.
If this is true, let me know. Thanks
nYes, but it's vague. Is it:

2.5mbps Video Max
160kbps Audio Max

CS4 HDV Capture and playback issues
Hey,
I am having trouble with HDV capture and playback on Prem Pro CS4. I tried all the steps mentioned on the article posted by Adobe, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405478.html
None of these steps have helped anything. I used the cleanup utility, re-installed everything and started from fresh and nothing happens. Capture is always out of sync, it ignores in and out points when batch capturing and playback is all jerky regardless of quality settings. The weird thing is, this only started happening out of the blue. I was using it on a project and it was fine. I hadn't used Prem Pro in a little while and then all these problems began. No change in hardware.
I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 and capturing HDV footage via firewire on a Sony Z7.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! With Win7, if you have not already done so...

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this kind of topic has been discussed before, but I could not find any help with search. I don't really know how to describe my problem. I has After Effects CS4 first and when I first got it, it was giving me the same problem. I came here and got some help and everything worked fine after that, but now I upgraded to CS5 and I'm having problems again and I can't for the life of me remember what I did to fix the problem.
Here is what is going on. I'll uploaded a video that is an mpeg or AVCHD and while trying to preview it in anyway, it will only render some of it and then it will start depleting what has been rendered to render the rest of the clip. It is hard for me to explain. It just won't fully preview a clip as a whole.
Also, when I make a movie or finish a clip, they are coming out incredibly choppy. CS4 worked great on my computer, but I'm guessing I don't have the seeings perfect for CS5. I would go back to CS4, but I use AVCHD now and I'm scared CS4 will start having issues like CS5 is having.
I have a Studio XPS 435MT
Intel Core i7 2.67 ghz
4gb of RAM
ATI Radeon 4800
Do I just have on the wrong settings or something? Because like I said, CS4 was working without a problem for years. It was doing the same thing CS5 is doing now, but something I did fixed it and now I can't remember what it was. Please state exactly what buttons you are pressing, what icons you are clicking, and what commands you're choosing. It's hard to help you to figure out what's going on when your description of what you're doing and seeing isn't clear.
My guess about your preview issue is that you're expecting either standard preview (spacebar play) or RAM preview to work differently than they do. For explanations of what these preview methods are and how to use them, start on this page and then read the pages that it links to: "FAQ: Why does RAM preview only play part of my composition?"
Regarding the stuttering of movies that you've rendered and exported: My guess is that you've just rendered and exported at the default settings, which create losslessly compressed movies, which are huge and are not intended for playback. (They're intended as intermediate files for additional post-production work.) Such huge files won't play back smoothly on a less powerful computer because the hard disk can't even serve the frames from the disk fast enough. The solution is to render and export using a codec that actually compresses the files significantly. You have to keep in mind the crucial difference between formats intended for playback and formats intended for intermediate files. See this thread for a somewhat more full explanation: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2958839#2958839
I recommend that you start here and work your way through the materials to get a good foundation in After Effects:

VBR Variable Bit Rate MP3s...HELP!!
I posted a message yesterday regarding pausing problems with VBR MP3s. It seems 2.1.1c playing MP3s using the performance pack has problem pausing and resuming MP3s if they are VBR. I decided to switch back to 2.1.1a and low and behold, now if I play a VBR MP3 it halts at some random point in the middle of the MP3. When I say random I mean it is different for different MP3s but that each track will always halt at the same point. There are no exception thrown but it looks to me like some kind of buffer overflow. Please anybody out there, can you help??
MP3 support was removed from 2.1.1c due to license changes. According to Sun, JMF should now use whatever system decoder it can find. Perhaps upgrading DirectX would help.

Export flash vid with VBR? (variable bit rate)
Does AE CS3 have a choice of VBR when exporting Flash Video (FLV)? I'm going thru the Render Queue, but can't find where to change it from CBR.
Thanks, Mates! No, I don't think so. After Effects only does one-pass rendering/compression, so you're probably better off with Flash Video Encoder or something similar.
