Using Verizon Wi-Fi Hotspots

I need further clarification as to what the difference in using verizons client app to connect to the internet at a hotspot is as to just connecting straight to the hot spot. Do they have additional service / routers set up that offer faster speeds and security as it transitions you into their fios network? or does it simply just connect you to the same hotspot and features I would get anyways?
Also in cases where the hotspot requires a cost or subscription and verizon wi-fi is available, does the verizon wi-fi offer you service for free? I didn't find that to be the case on a vacation earlier this year as it failed to connect me at all. I spent hours on the phone speaking to tech support and they simply came to the resolution that this location didn't have wi-fi anymore and that the list was out of date. 8 months later the location is still listed there. I knew this was bad information and that they couldn't get me connected. I just wasn't sure if I actually had to pay the resort fee first, which brings me back to the point, what good is this service that is being labeled a benefit to their subscribers with certain plans and higher?

To my knowledge, there is no advantage to a Verizon FIOS user to log in to a WiFi Hotspot in the manner you suggest (using an alternate internal network). All Verizon is doing is letting you log onto their WiFi network for free rather than having to pay a $x/day or $xx/month charge.
I think the answer to your last question is "not much if any".

AT&T and Verizon use different technology and the iPads are built differently - the AT&T version is GSM based and uses micro-sim cards, the Verizon model is CDMA based and doesn't use micro-sim cards. One option is to sell the iPad and buy a Verizon model; another option is to get a mifi device (assuming that you can get Verizon mifi devices) and use that as a mobile hotspot for the iPad.

Last night, I was helping a client with his old iPhone 4S' personal hotspot as shown in http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4517 web page. It uses Verizon Wireless 3G for his 4 GB data cellular connection. We got the wireless (WPA2) connection to work fine, but it was very slow like crappy dial-up modem speeds. Is this normal? iPhone's iOS v8.1.2's top screen says 1X (is this a speed number?) and left of MBP. Updated Mac OS X 10.8.5's top screen shows an infinite(?) symbol instead of that wifi arc symbol.

yes, 1x is a speed indicator, and it is very slow. Even with 3g speeds, hotspot will be pretty slow, but still ok for simple surfing and emails and such, streaming not so much. For hotspot, you really kinda want to have at least 4g, preferably LTE.
About that 1x speed, you may want to see if you get that everywhere or just in that location. Ideally, in a good coverage area, you should not be getting such slow speeds. Might have something to do with the building you are in though. If you get the same outdoors, and your coverage area is good, you may want to call in and have someone troubleshoot your signal.

Connecting from WRT54GL to Verizon MIFI2200 wireless hotspot

I have my WRT54GL connected to my desktop and I have been using satellite internet. I can connect via wireless from my laptop. I now want to get rid of the satellite and use a Verizon MIFI2200 wireless hotspot. So, I want to connect wireless from my desktop to the MIFI2200. I do not seem to have anything on my desktop which will allow me to see wireless networks. The MIFI2200 is working because I can connect from my laptop. The desktop with the WRT54GL is also working, because I can connect to it from my laptop. What do I need to run on the desktop to see available wireless networks? I don't seem to have anything available like Linksys Wireless Manager.

Can I use Verizon Jetpack with my AT&T Iphone and Ipad2 for data?

Try pulling the battery on the jet pack or even hard reset it. I know other devices are working but also hold home button and power key until iPad screen goes black. If your iPad doesn't pick up the waves from jp then you may need to backup and restore on ipad. But yeah it would be nice to know if your iPad can pick up other WiFi. That is usually caused by a few different Bugs in Firefox, which seem to be fixed in the Firefox 4.0 betas.

You can not currently purchase a Verizon iPhone 5 withou either already having, or establishing service with Verizon.
The SIM slot in the Verizon iPhone 5 is apparently unlocked as they are legally prevented from locking new devices as a condition of having won an auction for spectrum in the US.
There are known compatibility problems with T-Mobile's US network and iPhones, so even if you do get one, it will be effectively crippled on T-Mobile.

How can i get my computer to print with a wireless HP envy4502 using an ATT sierra hotspot

I have a HP envy 4502 wireless printer that works find printing from my iphone. I use an ATT Sierra hotspot that is connected via usp to my computer to access the internet form it. My problem is I would like to print from my computer without having to connect the hotspot via usb and connect wireless via the hotspot. How do I connect the printer. Do i need a cable to connect it to computer or do I need a router to connect the computer to the printer wireless. I am confused as to what needs to be done so my hotspot doesnot have to be physically connected to print.

I understand you would like to print from your computer to your Envy 4502.
I can help you with this. You should be able to run the wireless wizard on the front screen of the printer and connect it to your Hotspot wirelessly. If you put your computer on the same network, both devices can communicate withe one another. HP Printers are designed to work with 802.11 WiFi networks, thus connecting to the Hotspot may not work.
This particular model does have the feature called Wireless Direct (WD). HP wireless direct is a new feature that allows your Wi-Fi capable devices (for example: smart phones, tablets, or computers) to make a wireless network connection directly to your printer without using a wireless router or access point. You connect to your printer's HP wireless direct signal the same way you connect your Wi-Fi capable device to a new wireless network or hotspot. - Source
Please use the instructions in the link I sourced to set the printer up using wireless direct. Simply open the link and click on 'How to connect to HP wireless direct'.
Once the WD is enabled, open your network settings on your computer and choose the printer network, it will look like a variation of the printer name.

Thanks for the additional details! Let's get this issue resolved. What software version is the device on? Please reset the Network Settings on the device. Go to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Please Note: Audio alerts may also indicate delivery of incoming text messages or emails. The tone will vary based on the type of information being delivered to the device. Tones may also indicate low battery charge or inadequate signal strength. Keep me posted with results.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials. And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online. Hope you can find good use for them. Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy. I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

If you mean to plug a 3G / 4G modem into it.. NO.. apple has made no provision..
It is solely usable as a wireless router plugged by ethernet to existing modem or modem router.
