Using visualizer with live music

I want to use the new visualizer with live music from a band and project on a screen. I was thinking to use a file that points to something else, but can't figure out how to do it.

Loops with live music

I'm a drummer trying to use loops to play with live music, can you use garage band with triggers to start and stop loops to play with live music?

I'm doing the same. There are a couple of ways to do it, but no remote triggers that I'm aware of. If I'm doing a cover tune, I'll pull the tune itself in to GB as a track. I slide it over to a measure to leave room for a count in. Then I build the loop/tracks around the track with the original song. Then I mute the original track and I'm good to go. To start it, I only need to reach over and hit the space bar and off we go.
The one thing I puzzled by is using the loops with multiple tunes. How would I quickly switch from one tune to another? I thought of outputting to itunes, but I'd loose a lot of control. I wonder what the guys on ProTools do?

Using Visualizer with Music Videos

I want to shuffle music files with music video files and display them thru a projector. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to have iTunes use the visualizer for the music files but display the music video when it is q'd up.
Anyone know if this is possible and if so what preferences, etc. need to be set in iTunes. Thanks in advance for the response!

I have the exact same problem. Plus, I can't play them continuosly neither... Have to select them one by one through the remote. That's very annoying! I hope Apple fix it a.s.a.p.

Using visualizer with presentations powerpoint worship

About 3 years ago, I was speaking at a conference that included group singing (a Christian conference). The tech team was using a program that allowed them to integrate iTunes visualizer with the powerpoint slides. In essence, the music of the band was playing, the visualizer was somehow connected to that music (dancing along as it does to the beat) and over it all they had the words of the song.
Does anyone have any idea if you know of a program that helps with that? Any ideas of how that could be done?

No one else has had any thoughts on this, but let me offer this, at least. I know that the G-Force visualizer will allow you to create scripts, including the ability to add text and ovedrlay words onto the visulaizer screen.
G-Force is a free download to play with and learn. Much more powerful than Apple's. Then a small fee to purchase, if you desire.
Might not be the easy answer, but it's all I can offer.

Borrow a monitor from a friend or neighbor. If you update it on a machine other than the one you normally sync with, the music will be lost until you can set it back up to sync with the original iTunes library (or a new library that contains your music).

Using IPod with Acura Music Link

Has anyone been successful with connecting their IPod to the Acura Music Link system? My IPod does not work properly in identifying songs and playing each "disk" when I connect it to my Acura RDX.

I just updated mine to 1.2 - and have a 2006 TL - but don't use the Acura software (too much of a pain), and mine appears to work generally fine on Disc 5 (album shuffle). However, if I turn off the stereo, or switch over to something else (like XM) and come back, it may or may not skip for about 10 seconds, and clears itself up. It may pick up where it left off. It may even keep playing, so I have therefore missed part of the song.
But here's the kicker - when I turn my car off, the song starts playing again. If you disconnect the iPod, it takes a good 10-15 seconds to start responding to key presses. (If you disconnect before turning off the car, it behaves the way it should.)
I only discovered this today, when I got in my car after work, the display said it was where I'd left it, but it certainly wasn't the same song I turned off at. I think it actually kept looping the album I was on all day.
So, I did some experimenting, and if you turn off the stereo, it will absolutely pause the iPod - but the song will start playing again as soon as you turn off the car.
Hopefully, this points someone in the right direction?

Using Keynote in Live Music

Can I string together multiple slideshows in Keynote? I'd like to make a slideshow with a soundtrack that is an mp3 of one of my songs without my guitar or vocal. The animations and video clips can be synced to the soundtrack to make a cool video for the song. It's easy to do that as a single slideshow.
What I'd like to be able to do is string together say 10-12 slideshows/songs into a single slideshow (a set) that is controlled with a USB footswitch (for starting and stopping keynote from the stage).
Is this possible, and does anyone know how to make this work? Thanks.

It is easy enough to link from one slideshow to another using Hyperlinks. But they necessitate clicking on the object, I have never found a way to automatically link from one slide to a non consecutive slide without a click. If that works for you, open the hyperlink Inspector (2nd last Tab) select an object then tick Enable Hyperlink. Here you can type in a URL link to another file.
A shortcut method is make an object link to First Slide in file in the file you wish to link to. Then drag this object (or copy & paste) into the file you wish to link from. Keynote remembers the file the object came from and links to it. Pretty professional like, or what!
Note the screen blacks out briefly between file changes. Also note the linking object can be an invisible rectangle covering the whole slide, negating the need to find a target to link to the new file.
As for USB foot-switch I'm sure such things exist and work but I have no experience with them.

Using Shuffle for classical music

Am a new IPOD user and am looking for guidance on how to use "shuffle" with classical music .. specifically am looking for a way to have multiple tracks that make up one piece of music be treated as a "song" .. it would appear from what I have seen that shuffle will play a movement of a piece only (plays one track) .. Album is an option but would like a finer granularity if possible .. all suggestions appreciated

Thank you for resonding. We were told at Best Buy all we would need is GarageBand. So - I appreciate your honesty that this appears to be not what we need.
The situation is as follows. My husband will teach in Aspen, CO this summer to Elderhostel people. Back in the days of drop the needle this was easy. But now - everything is digital. And, so he has been downloading music to ITunes. He wants to go to a section of a piece of music (say - within the 2nd movement and play where the "horns" come in. And, then go to another section within the 2nd movement to show the change in tempo and "feeling". And, be able to play that. And, he can't take the time of "fast forwarding" and hoping he stops at the right place. Once he has set these up - probably 40 to 50 start and stops for 6 lectures - then he would transfer everything over to IPAD.
We will purchase one -as we have wanted something small and portiable which has wifi.So we can access our emails and the WWW.
Does any of this make sense now? Is there MAC AP which would do what we are looking for. This is what Best Buy kid said we/he could do.

The operating system on my macbook is mac os X 10.5.8. i am sure it is not a problem of streaming music online because i have even tried playing music which are stored in my macbook.

I am shocked to have found this same AX audio dropout problem starting TODAY, every few seconds the audio just drops for a couple seconds and then resumes: Latest software versions of everything. No iPad, iPhone or Touch. Internet hardwired to D-Link DES1105 (1000baseT Switch) hardwired to new 80211N AX, AX optical to stereo, AX Wi-Fi internet to basic 1st-gen MacBook operating at 80211G, and an older 'G' AX extender at the far end of the house, away from all this. The MacBook streaming iTunes is usually 12 feet from AX. I've used this setup for years of trouble-free AirTunes / Airplay until today. Today I also found 2 very reliable fixes and 1 way to force a dropout, but first, I read some posts and tried ALL following settings one-at-a-time and restored them ALL because NONE of them helped: Turned off IPV6. Streamed to multiple speakers 'Computer' and 'AX' (restored to just AX). Turned off 'Ask to Join new (WiFi) Networks'. Turned off Bluetooth (can't live without Magic Trackpad, so glad that wasn't it). Here's my discoveries: Lo and behold, each time I click the Airport icon in the Menu (you know it shows you've got 4 bars from AX) when the status switches to 'Looking for Networks' for a second it CAUSES the AX audio to drop out for a couple seconds (it never did that before today.) iTunes still playing, streaming, AX laser still lit, but the 'PCM' light on stereo and the sound GOES OUT EVERY time I click the Airport icon in the menubar, just like the regular, annoying dropouts. So, to reduce traffic I quit Safari (3 tabs, no streaming, just Gmail, Google, and Netflix browsing). Lo and behold, the dropouts stopped altogether. No other Web apps going (not iTunes Store, Genius, Ping, nothing), so I launched Chrome to the same 3 tabs and the dropouts HAVE NOT RETURNED. That's right, not only did simply QUITTING SAFARI cure it, and Chrome doesn't contribute to it, but I can demonstrate it just by forcing my Airport to re-scan. Works for me, written using Chrome. The other reliable fix is to hardwire MacBook to the Switch. This is obviously not ideal, but Airplay audio doesn't drop out over Ethernet. Also, in all my tests, it made no difference whether iTunes did the streaming, or Airfoil did.

Using remote with music.

When I use my remote to select the music, and click to start it I would like to use visualization full screen.How do I get it? I know when I have itunes open I can go to the view and click visualization there. Thank you

with the drive connected to the TC and mounted on your desktop, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) to the external.
next, launch iTunes while pressing option, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
this setup requires that the external is mounted before you launch iTunes. you can have the drive mount automatically at startup by adding the drive to your login items via system preferences > accounts > login items.
if you are comfortable with AppleScript, you could edit this script to suit your need.

this script just places the drive's icon on the desktop.
save it as an application and add that to your login items.

Using ALSA with MPD for the NCMPCPP VIsualizer?

I've just finished setting up ncmpcpp with MPD, and it works great for playing my music and displaying it in the program. I really like the visualizer feature that comes with ncmpcpp, so I looked at the Wiki guide on activating it. On the wiki page, it uses 'mpd.fifo' to send data about the song file (I presume) to enable the visualization. By following the wiki page, I got the visualization working fine, but my audio was no longer working. According to XFCE's Audio Mixer program, I'm using ALSA. I don't really know what this means or why I can't get the visualization working, or if there's another package I could install to bridge the non-working ALSA with the working FIFO (in terms of ncmpcpp's visualizer). How can I enable the visualizations with ALSA?

I know that I installed ncmpcpp and configured it to work with MPD. MPC is also active and managing my local database. I'm only unsure of what I've installed in terms of the ALSA audio driver. When I went through setting up my system, I downloaded all of the dependencies to get Arch up and running, and I therefore may have installed ALSA in the process when it was instead FIFO that I needed to make this work. The visualization worked fine when I set it up with mpd.fifo, but that cancelled out my audio. I could no longer hear my music. Config above.

I would think a 15" with the i7 CPU. You can get a 13" with the i7 CPU but the 15" has a dedicated graphic chip along with the intergrated one.
You will also need to upgrade the hard drive to a faster 7200RPM model instead of the standard 5400RPM model that comes with all MBPs. The Sibelius website recommends the 7200RPM or a SSD. You will also be better off installing 8GBs of RAM.
Both of those upgrades can be made after you buy a MBP for much less then Apple charges for the same upgrades and you get to keep the original RAM and hard drive.

I had a question If I log in to a Music site on N900, a website which plays live streaming Music and if i Wanna relay it to my Car Audio system using the FM Transmitter in the N900 can I do it ? Mind you it is a website which plays live music.

One more thing you said that you have tried it using the Media Box so when you say, you have not tried it using the Media player what does it mean ?is it something different that you are refering to here...You're saying you have already done it with Media Box right ?

Recording live music with video iPod...

I tried using my video iPod to record a live music show and was very disappointed with the results. I purchased a MicroMemo digital audio recorder and used a set of stealth mics I've used for years with my portable MiniDisc recorder.
The iPod doesn't allow you to set recording levels and I think that was the problem. The recording was WAY oversaturated and virtually unlistenable. I tried using Audacity to edit the file, but I was unable to fix the oversaturated recording.
Can anyone advise me? Thanks in advance!

recordings of lectures. Other good audio software
that allow you to filter a sound file include Cubase
, MacFOH ,
SoX .
Thanks for the suggestion, Ed, but my recording is SO oversaturated that it can't be salvaged by anything. When you look at the recording in any sound editor, the top is severely clipped. You can't do anything to restore what isn't there to begin with, and that's the top of the waveform.

It turns out the battery box (9V) on my Core Sound stealth mics means my mics are powered by an external source. All I have to do next time is use the "line" setting instead of the "mic" setting on the MicroMemo.
