  • Can I use Voice Commands (Speech) to control the DVD Player?

Problem: I want to insert a DVD in the the DVD drive and use voice commands to stop, pause, play, move forward, move back, and quit the DVD Player. Is this possible? If so how would I do this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can create a speakable item. Use AppleScript Editor (Applications > Utilities > AppleScript Editor) to write the appropriate AppleScript to perform the desired action, and give it a name which is the command you want to speak. Then, make a subdirectory in the Speakable Items directory named "DVD Player" and copy your script to it. You should be able to speak the name of the script when DVD Player is in the foreground and have the script execute.
    An example script (Play.scpt):
    tell application "DVD Player"
    play dvd
    end tell
Other commands that the DVD Player application understands:
    fast forward dvd
    pause dvd
    rewind dvd
    stop dvd
    step dvd
go to \[ main menu / title menu / subpicture menu / audio menu / angle menu / beginning of disc \]
press \[ up arrow key / down arrow key / left arrow key / right arrow key / enter key \]
    open VIDEO_TS
    open dvd video folder
    play next chapter
    play bookmark
    play named bookmark
    play video clip
    play named video clip
    exit clip mode
    obscure cursor
    eject dvd
The DVD Player application also has a bunch of properties related to chapters, titles, subtitles, etc.

  • Using Voice command to call some one...

    Hello,
On the key note presentation in June the Steve Jobbs had done he used voice command to call a person.
How do you go about doing the set up for that. I can not seem to do it.
    Sean

I could swear he did because he made a comment along the lines that "today's technology" ...
I could be wrong but I can not quote his comment but I know he made a comment about it before he did it.....
Oh well. One would think with the issue of driving and cell phone this would of been included.

  • Can't call contacts using Voice Command on HTC DNA

On my old HTC Thunderbolt I could touch the microphone icon and use the voice command to call someone in my contact list.  It does not work on my new HTC DNA.  This feature kept me from having wrecks while driving because all I had to do was punch one icon then speak “call so and so cell” and the call would be made.
How do I turn it on or get it to work?
I have instructed my family to sue Version and HTC if I get killed while driving and having to punch in letter to call someone.  They have already demonstrated they have the technology to perform in the Thunderbolt and other phones.

Why is it that the Voice Search is broke right out of the box.  I know it has to do with the Google Now app but I can't find the fix anywhere.  I like how the Verizon WCS recommends what I am sure what we all did first.  Absolutely no help.
I would love to install Voice Search from Google but the play store says it is already installed.  But it is defaulting to the new google search as part of that Google Now app.  Neat app but it wont dial anything other the home or mobile phone numbers. So I have to manually dial my wife at work.  Also, the voice search from the phone screen wont dial if I say call my wife.  It just places the text in the dial box.  ***?  Anyway, I just switch to verizon to try to get a better HTC then what sprint offers.  I love the speed of the phone but Sprint seams to make sure the basics work on there phones.  My EVO worked great with the old Voice search including hands free dialing to work, home, or mobile by saying "call my wife at work"  Because I have My Wife as the contact name for my wife.
Please let me know if you found a fix for this.  I really wish I could install the old google voice search but I cant.
Maybe Mr. moderator can light a fire with HTC to correct the problems.

  • E71 crashes when using voice commands

    Hi there,
I've recently updated the phone software hoping that my problem would go away, but it hasn't.
Basically, when I use the voice commands to call a contact, all is good.
However, if I have a contact with 2 or more contact numbers, none of which assigned as a default number, the phone crashes and restarts.
As contacts are not automoatically assigned a default number, when I add numbers to contacts, I must specify the default number to avoid a crash on the phone. Is there any work around for this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi mgoksoy,
I also agree this is a nifty program. However, there is some data and internet interaction necessary for the application. It doesn't seem to use a lot, but some is used. All of the logic to analyse the speech is online, allowing the application to improve over time.
This diagram at the end of the technology page should give a clear picture on the interaction.
    (See here: http://www.vlingo.com/technology/)
Thanks again for introducing this application.

  • Can you use voice command to get map directions

Does the iphone 4 have the ability to use a voice command to get map directions----then display the map?

You need a third-party app like: TomTom or Navigon. There are others in the app store.

  • How do I use voice commands with CC on my Mac?

Howdy all! Just made the switch to Adobe from Final Cut 7. Overall, I'm digging it a bunch.
However, there's one aspect of CC on my Mac that's vexing me.
As you may know, there is speech recognition / voice command software built in to Mountain Lion (it's been around for years, and many iterations of OSX). With this software, you can make any number of custom voice commands for another piece of software. For instance, in FCP 7, I can program the keystroke "l" (play track) to respond to the voice command, "Forward." (It can be any word or phrase you type in.) This works with other programs as well.
All well and good, and pretty dang cool. However, I can't make any voice commands work with any of the CC software (I've tried Premiere and Media Encoder so far). I'm curious if anyone else has had any luck, or, perhaps, that the ported interface from Windows to Mac has some layer of code that (probably inadvertantly) blocks voice commands from working with CC on a Mac.
Anyone got any tips? Tricks? Confirmation that this simply won't work on a Mac? (If the last, I'd love to know the "why" as well.)
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Ian

  • My phone will not use voice commands to send emails

I cannot dictate text messages and siri cannot answer questions.  I can dictate lists for other apps.

Voice commands or Siri?  They are two different things.
A search of the forums would have shown several posts in the last few days regarding issues with Siri.

  • In "Messages", I can no longer use voice commands to enter the message. Mic icon greyed out.

I use the voice recognition (press the mic icon) capability for text messages regularly.  After the last iOS update, it's greyed out and doesn't allow me to use it anymore.
Is there a work around for this?

To use "dictation" as it is called, there are two requirements:
    1.  Siri must be turned on (Settings > General > Siri)
    2.  You must be connected to the internet.

  • Can I use voice recognition to fill in an existing template?

Is there a way to use voice recognition to fill in blanks on an existing (self-prepared) form?  Can I prepare the blanks on the form in a way (e.g., tabs) that lets me use voice commands to move the cursor from blank to blank?  Imagine a simple list of questions.  I would like to find a way to use voice commands to move the cursor to the end of the next question once I finish dictating the answer to the previous question.

While I am at it, do you know if SOCKS wrapping the correct term? Perhaps it is port mapping? I am unsure which is why I put it in italics.

  • Does voice command work with a line-out (dock connector) plugged in?

Thinking of upgrading to 4th gen touch if I could use voice command in the car.  I do not want to use the headphone/mic jack for sound quality reasons.

AFAIK, none of the pins on the iPhone dock connector support this, thus there is no way to do what you want. You're not the first to want to do this. All I can suggest is that you suggest such to Apple:

  • Ignore voice commands / Speech Recognition Server timeout

I'm fairly new to AppleScript but I've found it really entertaining and gloriously simple to pick up so far.  I've been using it mostly to make my own speakable items for the Mac's voice control, and I've managed to write some basic things like voice commands to set/change volume and brightness.  My goal at this point is to be able to do the majority of things I want to do on my computer by voice only.  Sue me - I just rewatched Iron Man and I really wish I had a JARVIS system right now.
This means that the computer must always be listening for commands (I have set it to 'listen continuously with keyword', and set the keyword as 'optional before commands').  It defeats the purpose if I have to walk over and hit a key to start listening for commands.  At the same time, I don't want to have to speak a keyword, because I will invariably forget to do so and it's also an added hassle (especially when I have several commands to say - I don't want to have to say the keyword before each command).
You might have an idea of where this is going.  Obviously, if the computer is always listening, it will pick up on normal conversation and try to interpret it.
I could just deactivate voice commands when I'm not using it, but as I said earlier, I don't want to have to either hit a key or say a keyword.  In other words, I want to be able to activate and deactivate voice commands by voice.  Deactivating is easy.  Activating is what presents an interesting problem, because if it's deactivated, how will it hear my reactivation command?
Thus, the first part of my question: is there a way - any way at all - to get voice commands to ignore commands until given some keyword, short of literally changing its settings to listen for a keyword before the command?
I decided to try to use speech recognition.  This must, I think, be involved in some way, because as I said earlier, this presents the unique problem of having voice commands deactivated yet still able to recognise the reactivation command.  I had noticed that while the computer is listening for a specific command, it ignores anything that isn't what it is listening for.  I tried to use this to my advantage and wrote a script to listen for a reactivation command; until the reactivation command was given, the computer would ignore everything else.  The problem is that the speech recognition server times out after two minutes.  I have tried to increase this, but to no avail (see below for my attempts).
Thus, the second part of my question: assuming there is no other answer to my first question, is there a way to get speech recognition to listen indefinitely?
Here are the two things I tried to make the timeout last longer, specifically for five minutes (300 seconds) in both cases.  Neither worked; both timed out after 120 seconds.
    tell application "SpeechRecognitionServer"
set userinput to listen for {"resume voice commands"} giving up after 300
    end tell
    and
    with timeout of 300 seconds
              set userinput to listen for {"resume voice commands"}
    end timeout

UPDATE: I have since come up with an alternate solution.  I created two speakable items, one for 'deactivation' and one for 'activation'.  The deactivation command uses UI scripting to set voice commands to 'keyword required' mode (i.e. the keyword is required before each command); the activation command simply sets it back to 'keyword optional' mode.
I figure that as long as I choose a keyword that's unique enough that it (and things that sound like it) won't come up too often in conversation, the computer will ignore anything I say once I activate the keyword requirement.  Then, I only need to say the keyword once along with the reactivation command to bring it out of this 'ignore commands' state.
In a way, this is actually better, because it allows me to continue to use voice commands if I really need to, as opposed to having to say the reactivation command to get my computer to listen to me, saying my intended command, and then saying the deactivation command to make it ignore me again.
All the same, if anyone has answers to any of my two original questions, please don't hesitate to share your knowledge!  It might come in handy later!
