Using vtext with the cloud

Before the cloud I could "text" my son's iphone from my laptop and get the response back to my lap top......now I can "text" him from my lap top and the response only goes to my phone!  What happened???  and How can I fix it?

Thanks for the reply.  I am fairly tech-saavy (engineer) but I have to say I am confused.  T
If you go to this support article, it indicates that iCloud does in fact support Office and PDF. See below.  Also, I have enabled iCloud documents in both my Mac and my iPad, but I don't see any way to actually share the documents - do you have to buy iWork for that?  I don't get it.  Normally Apple software is so intuitive and easy to use but not here.  All I need is Dropbox-like capability.
iCloud: Get documents stored on icloud.com
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2704?viewlocale=en_US,
It says
When you create a document on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) set up with iCloud, the document appears automatically on icloud.com/iwork and on your other iOS devices set up with iCloud. You can edit the document from any iOS device, and the document is immediately updated everywhere.
From icloud.com/iwork, you can also download the document to your Mac or Windows computer and edit it. You can then drag the edited document from your computer to icloud.com/iwork. The document is automatically updated on your iOS devices.
Supported file formats include Keynote ’09, Pages ’09, Numbers ’09, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, TXT, CSV, and PDF.

I used a usb turntable to import old vinyl records into iTunes. Then with the cloud and iTunes match I put them on another Mac.  The songs come up in the music list but they are greyed out.  How do I get them recognized.  The symbol states the songs were downloaded from iCloud.  I would like to get them to play so that I can make a playlist, and burn a CD.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

Oh nice, there's a PassKeeper application for the iPhone and iPad.  Simply install it and it should talk you through steps, otherwise their website is probably a great place to check.

I really like the application 1Password, and it works across all the products, Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone.

I am currently using the adobe cloud service and would like to give my granddaughter my original lightroom and photoshop programs.  Would do I need to do to remove them from my computer to hers?  The lightroom 5 program has been replaced with the cloud version on my computer.

Follow the steps listed at  Transfer an Adobe product license
Lightroom has no activation check so you don't need to do anything to your computer. Your old copy of Photoshop must be deactivated / uninstalled if you haven't already done so.

Currently using Photoshop CS5, but with a replacement computer and upgrade to Yosemite, keep being told I need to install the legacy Java 6. Currently, Photoshop won't even open. I absolutely do not want to subscribe, don't want to mess with the cloud, just want to buy an upgrade to something that will run for a while longer. I don't care about Lightroom, Bridge, Illustrator, etc.; most of those I've deleted over the years. But I do use Photoshop - or would if it would still run. What options do I have?

This is the java you need for photoshop cs5 to work on mac os x 10.10 Yosemite
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US
It's also possible you may have to reinstall photoshop cs5 even after installing the above java, because sometimes the upgrade to mac os x 10.10 messes up the photoshop cs5 installation.
You can download photoshop cs5 from here if you don't already have the install media.

  • When I set up the cloud control panel on my pc it will not allow me to ck the option for callandor and contacts to use that feature. Therefor  my ipad callendar will not sync with the cloud

When i set up the cloud controll panal on my pc it will not allow me to ck the box for contacts, callandor etc. There for my Ipad will not sync my callendos or contacts with the cloud

I think you are mistaken, your ipad has no problem to sync with the cloud. Your pc however does, since you can't check the check box. So why do not you try to concentrate on that part of problem and find out why. For starters, check what happens if you disable your antivirus/firewall on your computer/network and check box again. Describe what you see and messages you get. Good luck.

  • Lost connection with the cloud

Curious, if my StorSimple solution loses internet connection and cannot communicate with the cloud, what would the expected behavior be? Will my volumes go offline or will I still have use of my local data? What happens if a cloud snapshot is in progress?

The StorSimple device tiers old data from the local tiers to Azure.  If the device loses connection with Azure, the data on the local disks is accessible to hosts.  However, if a block of data which is present on the cloud is requested by the host,
the device retries getting the data.  If the data cannot be retrieved within 4 minutes, the volume/lun will be put in an offline state.  If the connection is established within the 4 minute period, the data is fetched from Azure and served to the
    host.
If a cloud snapshot is in progress the job keeps trying to send the data to Azure and if there is a prolonged outage, the job will be cancelled after 4 hours.

  • Why does only 1 of my 3 devices "associate" with the Cloud?

I understand that Apple's Cloud service for uploading will not be available til Fall.  But I also infer that tracks purchased from iTunes can at the present instant be accessed from the new "Cloud" providing it's done with the newest version of iTunes (10.3) and with an iPod Touch 3th or 4th gen. or an iPad 1st or 2nd gen.  However, when I connect my iPod 3, iPod 4, and iPad 1 to my computer with iTunes and go to my account, I'm told that only one--the iPod Touch 4th generation is "associated" with the Cloud.  Is is possible to "associate" all 3 devices with the "Cloud"?
Several months ago I followed the directions on Apple's web page and changed my I. D. number to a different, all-purpose I.D.  When I enter my old ID in my account, I'm told that I apparently have no device "associated" with the Cloud, so perhaps I should be grateful that at least my 8 gig iPod 4th generation is "associated" with the Cloud, provided I use my 2nd, newer I.D.  Still iCloud becomes more puzzling the more I try to get all machines and devices in synch.  Up to this point, the Amazon Cloud has been far easier to negotiate.

I probably "over-read" the Apple website hype about the advantages of creating a single personal Apple I.D. which would apply to practically all things Apple.  To quote:  "An Apple ID lets you personalize your Apple experience. Once you've created an Apple ID, you'll use it to access Apple resources where it's helpful to identify yourself. From Apple Discussions to iTunes to the Apple Online Store and everything in between, Apple ID is your passport to the extended Apple experience."
Hence, I created an "Apple ID," following the example "[email protected]"  (Who wants to miss out on a "passport to the extended Apple experience.")  However, I already had an ID (though it was not my Apple address), and apparently was already the benefactor of the benefits of the so-called "personal Apple ID."  Consequently, I now have two different iTunes IDs and two different passwords.  Apple has responded to my requests to have a single ID by saying that my request is for the impossible.  I simply have to remember both IDs and both passwords, entering both when attempting to use different computers and devices while downloading and taking inventory of my iTunes files.
So I'm pretty sure I've followed your suggestions already with respect to all 3 "eligible" devices, but I'll certainly give it another go-round.  From what you say, it appears that being "associated" with the cloud should not limit me only to an iPod Touch 4th generation.

  • IPod touch users offered UK nationwide Wi-Fi with The Cloud

    *Check this out:-*
http://www.thecloud.net/page/3653 (iPod touch users offered UK nationwide Wi-Fi with The Cloud)
Sounds quite cool & not too expensive either...
    Extract:-
    +Friday, 28 September 2007+
The Cloud today announced that it is giving Wi-Fi access to owners of Apple’s new iPod touch in thousands of hotspots across the UK. From Monday, users will be able to use their iPod touch to access the internet and Apple's online iTunes service in Wi-Fi hotspots provided by The Cloud.
The new Wi-Fi service, called Cloud Unlimited Music, will be available from Monday 1st October 2007 for £3.99 per month, specifically for iPod touch, and is not subject to any minimum term contract.
Owen Geddes, Group Director of Business Development at The Cloud, commented; “We believe this is a significant step forward in making music, podcasts and video available when, and wherever, people really want it. iPhone users will soon be able to make the most of our Wi-Fi network with O2 and The Cloud when the iPhone is introduced in November and we want to make sure people who have the Wi-Fi enabled iPod touch are able benefit from our network of over 7,500 hotspots too.”
iPod Touch users need to sign-up for the service at http://www.thecloud.co.uk/ipod , where they can register their individual device for use on The Cloud’s network across the UK and pay for the service. Once a user has registered their device, they are able to connect to any The Cloud Wi-Fi network without complicated usernames and passwords. The service is being introduced in the UK first and will become available in other European markets shortly.
The Cloud offers wireless broadband access at thousands of locations across Europe, including airports, hotels and railway stations throughout the UK, Germany, the Nordics and The Netherlands.
*Obviously, for future UK iPhone owners, such Wi-Fi service is gonna be "free" (included in monthly contract bill)... BUT for itouch owners, what do people think of this new service?*

It works outside pubs as well Not very far away - about the same as walking along the street and picking up signals from houses. Walked through Birmingham City Centre today (close to Bull Ring) having got my Touch out and watched a YouTube video walking along, moving from one hotspot to another - a bit stuttery as the signal dropped sometimes as TheCloud hot spots didn't overlap. But, at the pub, you are chatting to your mates and someone mentions something on YouTube so you whip out your Touch, press YouTube and everyone can have a look at it. Pretty smart.
I've been testing it out last few days and, now, it's all seamless. No log in, just have wifi switched on and if signal appears can just press safari, youtube or itunes and "boom" it works.

  • Using iTunes in the Cloud

I was wondering if I can use iTunes in the Cloud just for offsite storage of my music? I want to keep the files on all of my devices and only use iCloud to store the originals. Can this be done? Thanks.
    Steve H

    Hi,
No. Itunes in the cloud is not a back up service. This stores your iTunes purchase, not the rest of your music. iTunes Match is a different product, again it is not per se a back up service.
    Read this https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112,.
What match does is scans your library and matches your music with a version that is available in the iTunes Store. If it is not matched and is eligible, it will be uploaded. You will now have access to those tracks on other devices when you are signed into match.
Nothing happens physically to the tracks on your computer unless you opt to upgrade or delete them. Nothing beats a proper back up on an external HD

how do I sync my new phone with the cloud?

    Hi willardfromlos angeles,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If you are talking about restoring or setting up your new iPhone from an existing iCloud backup (say, of a previous device), you may find the following article helpful:
iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud
If, on the other hand, you are talking about simply setting up iCloud on your new device for the first time, then these articles may be of more use:

  • Sync with the cloud or local machine?

I've been subscribed to CS6/Creative Cloud for about a year now. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and downloaded several Adobe programs. When I opened Dreamweaver, I got this message:
"Settings from another computer are already synced with Creative Cloud. Would you like to sync using the settings stored on the cloud or the local settings on this machine?"
I'm confused. Am I correct in guessing that it would probably be best to sync with the cloud settings?
And should I choose the option "Always sync settings automatically"?
    Thanks.

It would vary based on the user's taste. If you would like to have the same settings across your devices, you should sync with the cloud settings.
Some users might not prefer this and choose to setup their application preferences, site settings, etc differently for different devices.

You can transfer iTunes content from an iTunes library on a single computer only.
Since these songs were purchased with the same iTunes account, you can download the song that is not in your iTunes library on the computer you will be syncing your iPhone with. Or you can download the song or songs direct on your iPhone.
