Can one use a web cam on an I Mac G5 with msn messenger ?No webcam, including iSight will work. "msn messenger" for Mac is text only.
Try Defcom's link to Mercury Messenger. If you have trouble with that, aMSN for Mac OS X may be worth a try to connect with those who are unwilling to make a software application change in order to connect to iChat AV on your Mac.

I followed the instructions exctly but my signature came out backwards. (mirror image). How can I fix it to read from left to right?

There is a new feature in Adobe Reader which allows you to create and save
your handwritten signature to a document. The process involves holding up
your handwritten signature to you computer's web camera and copying it to
use as  needed. Well when I copied the signature to the screen, using my
camera it came  out inverted i.e. the letters were backwards like the mirror
image would be. I  could not find a way to make it  read from left to right as
it would  if I signed it on a sheet of plain paper.

  • Using web cam with a Mac Pro

Hey All... Was hoping to get some pointers on get a web cam working on a mac pro so that I can use jabber to video chat from it. Any special brands that I would look at? Today at the local computer store looked like everything said yes to Windows but nothing mentioned OSX compatibility... Thanks for any posters

I read recently that these USB video class devices now all work with OS X (though perhaps only with 10.4.10 or later) without the need for any software to make them work in iChat and PhotoBooth and apps like that.
Of those cameras it seemed to me that the Microsoft Xbox Live Vision was both the cheapest and best looking so I bought one.
It works perfectly and quite surprisingly doesn't look too bad either (the 'XBOX 360' logo is almost invisible). I was hoping to get a real iSight and was even prepared to pay the $300 they seem to go for these days but at the time I decided to get one I couldn't find any on Ebay or Amazon. I'd recommend the Xbox camera, it's easily good enough.
Having said that, I don't think I've heard of any apps that enable video chat through Jabber with OS X (or any other OS from memory). Which app were you going to use? Please enlighten me...

  • Using Web camera with Yahoo

My granddaughter and her children wants us to get on line with our WEB cameras so that we can talk. She uses Yahoo and sent me an invite to join her group, which I did. Last night we went on line and I could access her on camera, but she could not access me.
After reading everything, and looking at the FAQ it appears that I must take steps to set up a web camera program. I would like to use the in line sight camera that is part of this computer, also a part of the lap top. I have not been able to find the instructions on how to make the camera active for web chatting with the Yahoo program.
Can any one help me out???

    Hello Fred,
Judging by the Yahoo! Messenger for Mac page, it doesn't appear that you can talk and use the video at the same time:
    http://messenger.yahoo.com/features/webcam/
"A webcam (web camera) allows you to share live video images of yourself (or things near you) while you are instant messaging with a friend..."
Instant messaging being the same thing as text typing to each other. If you want to have a true video chat with your granddaughter, you would both be best off using [Skype|www.skype.com].

  • Qosmio X770: Not able to create 3D pictures/videos using Web Camera 3D V1

I am unable to record 3D images or video with the integrated Toshiba Web Camera 3D V1 on my X770 11C 3D laptop !
    The 2D recording is normal.
Have I to install additional softwares for 3D recording?
    Message was edited by: jacques.vsk

    Dear MASTERG
I didn't find the program or application to test the webcam .
I found only the following text about the TOSHIBA Web Camera 3D V1( in the categories X775 3D series) :
"The webcam also supports 3D playback through Nvidia's 3D Vision software. To start 3D webcam playback, enable 3D Vision, open the webcam app, and click the 3D playback option. Each time you start the app you'll be given the option of calibrating the image to change the 3D depth perception. Once calibrated, the webcam provided excellent 3D images"
On my laptop in the NVIDIA Corporation progams I do not see any webcam app!
I tested the camera in 2D with the Corel Digital Studio for Toshiba (not 3D).
Perhaps I am overlooking or missing something .
    What program I need?

  • Web-based video capture and detection using web cam

    to anyone:
is it possible to capture video and detect motion using a web cam in a web based application?how is it done?
if not possible, what solutions can you suggest so that i can put it on a web based application?
    tnx for the help..

    Ironman wrote:
I'm sure it could be achieved by capturing individual frames, say one every second or so, and then doing a checksum on the image bytes and compare it with the previous frames checksum - if they were different then the frames are different and therefore motion can be assumed. If you don't want to check the entire image you can choose a tile, say in the centre of the picture, and checksum this. I use this technique to detect frozen images if CCTV cameras are causing problems. This other thread may also help :

Wow, now that is good idea. I guess you don't need external hardware to check for movement. Brilliant!

  • Editing using Multi-cam option

I have to edit a show I did not shoot- 3 panasonic AF100A  cameras supposedly synched TC wise, with the main camera receiving a feed the show audio board. Each camera has a different view, so I obviously want to pick and choose the best coverage to make a lean looking show a tad better. I've been told the best option is to edit in multi-camera mode. True? Using an iMac, with show files on an external HD. I imported each of the files into the project by clicking the 'private' folder for each. Then I selected them all, selected multicam option and then show in timeline. Couple of questions: do I need to sync the beginning of each clip or does the TC take care of that? It appears my main video and audio track is off a bit- should I just pull all the tracks as far to the left as possible to ensure timeline synching?
How do I view each camera at the same time, so I can compare footage?
I'm not ignorant, I just haven't used Premiere in years and I'm primarily a shooter, so any help  or advice is appreciated

  • Flex, Record video and audio using web camera to computer temp, then upload

    Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is 100% possible and have been looking around for  some time now for an answer but couldn't find one so have come here.
Basically I want to create a flex application that sits in a web browser, that allows people to connect using a webcam and microphone, then record a short video that gets held temporarily on the computer until they finish and then it uploads the whole video to a server.
I am able to achieve this by using a media server and streaming the video directly from the user to the server but this hinders the quality of the videos. On poor Internet connections the quality is rubbish.
Is it at all possible to save video files to a computers temp memory and then upload them ?
This would mean I can record the videos at a nice high quality and not have to worry about the Internet connection tampering with the quality.
    Many Thanks in advance !

Thanks for the reply.  I knew it was not possible to write to the C drive or the users computer at all.
But i really wanted to know if it was possible to write to a dataArray or byteArray within flex?
I should of mentioned this sorry.

  • Can't use web cam online anymore

I used to be able to connect to http://chatroulette.com/ but now that I've upgraded to Lion it no longer works.

I went to the web site in multiple browsers and it seems their web site is not propery coded which is why you may not be able to click allow.
    Windows 7 64-Bit:
    - IE 9, the two video screens overlap.
    - FF 5.0/Safari 5, I can't click the links towards the bottom left.
I would contact the webmaster and find out which browsers are supported or have them properly code it to work in al browsers.

    Hi,
Do you mean that you want your application to send and recieve the audio/video data online. If it is so, I think you can write applets and use them in the application. Or you can also use Macromedia Flash to do the same in a better way. For further info about Flash player please visit
    http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about.
And as a reference please once visit www.mlb.com, which has some video library running on iAS.
Hope this might have given you some poiters that help you. Should you have any further queries please get back to our software forum.
    Thanks and All the best,

  • Using web cam with skype but not receiving image from PC

I've just downloaded skype and asked my son to do the same as we got nowhere with messenger, in the hope to be able to chat to him and see each other. He can see me but I cannot see him and his webcam says "error in trying to connect to ...'. Is this something to do with his webcam or the fact that I am using a Mac?

Check with the folks at Skype.

Main functionality of my app is to use Web-camera.
My application is working fine on Windows XP and Windows 7 using external Web-Cam device.
However, the same application is giving problem in accessing in-built Webcam on Windows 7.
I tried to access in-built Web-Camera from JMStudio app(of JMF..File->Capture->check 'Use video device'-> Press 'Ok'), however JMStudio itself is not able to access in-built web-camera. Always I am getting the error 'Couldn't initialize the Capture Device!'.
Please note that JMF Registry Editor(JMStudio->Preferences->Capture Device->Detect Capture Devices')is able to detect the inbuilt web-cam device.
Is this the issue in JMF itself or I can resolve the issue from my application also?

Well, I don't know if the JMF Studio works on a 64-bit system, but the base java libraries work just as well as on a 32-bit system. I currently use both Windows 7 64-bit and 32-bit version, and I am able to recognize all of my audio input devices.JMF wraps around and makes use of a bunch of native interfaces, all of which are precompiled for 32-bit systems. As such, anything relying upon those 32-bit libraries will not work, and that cuts the functionality down to, essentially, the cross-platform pack stuff.
JMF's sound infastructure is mostly a wrapper around JavaSound, so as long as JavaSound is working on the JRE, you'll be able to utilize the audio functionality.
As for device detection, I know at least some of that is native code. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd almost expect the Windows performance pack to never return any devices on a 64-bit system, but the cross-platform back to return audio devices. This is an assumption, but, that's what I would expect.
In any case, if you're using the Windows performance pack, you'd most likely get better results by switching to the cross-platform pack.

    Not that I could find.
The easiest workaround that I could find is a trimmed piece of Black Construction Paper taped over the Mac's display.
Alternatively, you could use an external Mac Compatible Web Cameras and then close the lid, but that is a higher cost option.
