Using web service to update rows on InfoPath form

I managed to get a proof of concept working where I can read data from a web service to populate a table on my InfoPath form. I have found information about how to use a web service to "submit" data from the InfoPath form. But what if I want to
update an existing record from the read that I displayed on the InfoPath form?
I have some simple methods in my web service for "read employees", "insert employee", and "update employee". Nothing really fancy. I think I can manage to tell InfoPath to use "insert employee" for the submit command,
but I'm not entirely sure how it knows exactly what to submit. I have no idea how to tell InfoPath to use the "update employee" method if a user edits a record, nor, what button to push to do that.
I have a feeling that "submit" is supposed to cover both "insert" and "update" but I can't find anything to confirm that. If that is true, I am not sure how to handle responses from multiple calls if the user tries to update
or add multiple rows at a time.
If "submit" does handle both "insert" and "update" then is best practice to make the web method intelligent enough to tell the difference?

Given that IP has been killed off by Microsoft, and that you are still in the dev process, I might not recommend its use. Consider BCS instead.

Looks interesting but it appears to be not an option on our server. The business data connectivity metadata store is offline.

  • How to move data connections with SOAP web service in different environments in InfoPath Forms 2010

    Hello,
    I've an InfoPath Form where I've around 10 SOAP web service data connections. They are calling a custom web service for a custom business process. The web service URL has a query string parameter which identifies whether it's a Test web service or the Production
    one. The web service URL looks like this:
    http://server/webservice/wsdl?targetURI=testSPRead (for the Test environment)
    http://server/webservice/wsdl?targetURI=ProdSPRead (for the Production environment)
    When I develop the form in Dev environment, I use the Test web service URL and save the data connection as UDCX files in the data connection library. After completing the development, when I deploy this Form in Production, I update the URL in the UDCX
    file in the Production data connection library, but when I run the Form in Production, it throws error 'Error occurred in calling the web service'. After doing more research, when I extracted the XSN file and opened Manifest.xsf file in Notepad, I found the
    references of 'testSPRead' parameter.
    So, in the UDCX file the web service URL is '/targetURI=ProdSPRead' but in the Manifest.xsf file, there is a reference of Test web service parameter which is 'testSPRead' and that's why it's throwing error.
    For testing purpose, I updated the Manifest.xsf file and replaced all the occurrences of 'testSPRead' to 'ProdSPRead' and also updated all the relevant files of the data connections (like XML, XSF etc.) and saved the Manifest.xsf as Form.xsn and deployed
    in Prod and it worked.
    The question is - is this the right way of doing it? There should be a simple method in such cases where web service has conditional parameter to identify the Test and Production web service.
    Does somebody know what is the right way of doing it? I also thought of adding 'double' data connections - one set of Test and another set of Production and call them by identifying the current SharePointServerRootURL, but that's a lot of work. I've 10 web
    service data connections in my Form and in that case I'll be having 20 data connections and setting their parameters in different Rules is too much work.
    Please advise. It's very important for me!
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your response Hemendra!
    I hope Microsoft improves this thing in subsequent patches of InfoPath 2010 or InfoPath 2013 because I don't think this is a very special requirement. This is failing the purpose of having UDCX files for data connections. Why the WSDL's parameter value
    is being written in the Manifest.xsf and other XSF and XML files. InfoPath should always refer the URL and parameters from the UDCX files.

  • How can i records with date format using web services?

    Hello
    I can't record date records using web services. I get no message errors.
    I can import string values but no dates (YYYY-MM-DD). Do you have any clue about that?
    Regards
    Arturo

    hello,
    That's the code I'm using to update an opportunity. In the date fields (e.g. dFecha_de_entrega_al_cliente) I've tried to put an specific date in the correct format (If i put it in another format i've got an error message due the wrong format). The CRM accepted the code but it didn't update the values that are different of string.
    I don´t know if there is something missing in teh program or if the developer environment is not the adequate.
    Regards for your comments

  • How to consuming reports from OBIEE using web services?

  • How to do Bulk data transfer  using Web Service

    In my application I have to write various web services but majority of the web service has to
    query database and return back bulk data(rows>10K) through web service.
    So I would like to ask what is the efficient way of transferring bulk data using web service as presently
    Iam returning the dataset as xml String (using StringBuilder) from web service and consuming the same at client end.
    Is there a better way to this in web service?
    My env:
    Front end can be in any other technology ,UI like C#
    Back end : Tomcat 6 on Java 6 with Axis2
    Thanks in advance

    Innova wrote:
    But then also I have to mention a return type although its xml that is getting transferred.
    Can you provide me a with a small sample code.Like if I have Emp obect with properties
    Empname,EmpID,DOJ,DOB,Dpt . In this case what will be the return type.
    My major concern is that my resultset is going to be huge in terms of >10,000 rows so
    that much time for formation of xml and then the transfer so how can I reduce the transfer
    time ,I meant a faster optimised approach for transferring large data as part of web service.
    Simply putting , how can I transfer bulk data in minimum time so that I can reduce the
    waiting time at client side for the response.
    Thanks in advanceI've done this with thousands before now, and not had a performance problem...at least nothing worth writing home about.
    Your return type will be an array of Emp objects. You can use a SOAP array for that (you'll need to look that up for the syntax, since I can't remember it off the top of my head), which gets restricted to being an array of Emp.
    Should the normal technique prove to be too slow then you should look at alternatives, but I would expect this to work well enough. And you have no faffing about with devising a new transfer system that then has to be explained to your client system...it'll all be standard.

  • Adding a user using web services

    Is it possible to add a user using web services? I am trying to do this using .net but I am getting errors. I was able to search and delete users!

    I will look into this. The only thing is, I was able to update, remove and search users using web services in .net, but I don't understand why can't I add a user using the same web service? The method of creating a local user is available in the web service! I even tried adding a user and I get the following error:

    doesn't this mean it is trying to create a user?

  • Workflow : User Decision on Email using Web Services

    Hi,
    I have the requirement of sending User Decision on Email Using Web Services.
    Eg : I have created one ECR Using T-Code "CC31" and on status change "CC32" of this ECR, My workflow triggers. Now what i want is to send the User Decision on maintain User Email ID  as URL link. This link will contain the ECR Nos. There will be "N" nos of Links send on email depending on Requirement. By clicking on that Particular Link , Action taken should be updated in sap.
    URL Link is just like confirmation link send on our email id during user Registration on some Website or when we create our Gmail / Yahoo Account.

    Why not use the extended notifications? - it has an option to send links to approve/reject or any other option in the decision task and use a standard web service. See the document attached to note 1646056 - Workflow Quick Start Guide to Extended Notifications.

  • Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

    Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
    Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
    04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
    By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
    Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

    Please provide support for the above request.
    It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

  • Invoking a scenario using web service

    Hi Experts,
    Could anyone pls suggest how to pass variables from SOAP to ODI 11g(11.1.1.6.3)
    Here we are using wsdl utility to invoke a scenario using web service and trying to pass a variable like the below
    The scenario is triggered successfully without passing a parameter.
    But when i try to pass a variable like the below,am getting error
    Variables name='PROJECT_CODE'
    Variables value='JI-2015'
    In ODI 11g, i have generated a scenario with a variable PROJECT_CODE as a declare variable and tried triggering from both the environments
    From ODI 11g:
    When I try to trigger the scenario from wsdl, in that variable step(in operator), I got error as ODI-17546: Specified variable not found in the Repository
    But in the work repository SNP_VAR table I could still see the variable name under VAR_NAME column.
    From ODI 10g:
    When i try to do the same from odi 10g, the scenario execution is success.
    But the variable had taken only NULL value instead of taking the value which i passed from wsdl.
    Could you pls advise where am going wrong

    variable should be passed in the soap message by adding variables elements. Refer to Note ID [1499852.1]
    <Variables>
    <Name>Project.Variable1</Name>
    <Value>Variable1Value</Value>
    </Variables>
    <Variables>
    <Name>Project.Variable2</Name>
    <Value>Variable2Value</Value>
    </Variables>
    <Variables>
    <Name>Project.Variable3</Name>
    <Value>Variable3Value</Value>
    </Variables>

  • What is the best way to deploy application that uses web services?

    Hi all,
    I'm having some problems figuring out the best way to deploy our app now that we've switched over to using web services.
    I'm fairly new to Java and web services. From what I understand, JNLP and WebStart are methods to deploy Java clients to users and not for creating war files and the like.
    Here's a little background:
    We have a large PowerBuilder/Oracle application. The db consists of over 500 tables and the client consists of several thousand PB components. A user creates "transactions" which contain a series of "sub-transactions" within. Most of the data is collected and stored locally in the client in a series of datastores. When the "finalize" happens, the records are validated and sent to the database.
    We are in the process of moving each of the subtransactions (currently in the PB client) into subPROCESSES on a java project. We are using the JAX-WS framework to develop the web services in Netbeans. These web services aren't much more than remote xml as the messaging technology. For writing data back to the database, we are using the Java Persistence API to function outside of an EJB container but will shortly be migrating to the Glassfish application server to use several of the EJB container frameworks including the EntityManager.
    We haven't attempted any type of deployment and are unsure of where to start. Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated!
    Thanks!

It is for launching rich client GUI based (AWT, Swing, SWT..) applications onto the end-user's desktop.
    There are some parts of JWS that might seem peripherally useful to the installation of a web-app., but it is really not a 'good fit'.
    >
    ..Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated!>You might try the forums for the 'web tier' APIs.

    Or perhaps the forum 'Java Technologies for Web Services' (under 'enterprise technologies')

    This one in 'BigAdmin' seems particularly relevant, 'Set up and Deploy'

  • Novice Help with Creating Opportunities Using Web Services 2.0

    Hello,
    I recently took over our CRM integration services and was asked to push some data via our custom portal.
    We use our portal to automate the creation of new opportunities in our Oracle CRM System.
    The code was developed using Web Services 1.0
    I was recently asked to add data to the "Parent Opportunity" field upon creation of a new Opportunity. Now I may be mistaken and if I am I will be very pleased, but it seems to me this field isn't available in 1.0
    If I am mistaken and there IS a way to push data to the "parent opportunity" field using 1.0 Please completely disregard what I have typed below.
    Upon looking at the WSLD for 2.0 I see "ParentoptyID" as an available field.
    I took it upon myself to try and move this process over to 2.0 but I have hit a few major stumbling blocks. Here is the working code for 1.0:
    Public Function CRMAddFinalShipmentOpportunity2(ByVal Session As Session, ByVal Subject As String, ByVal Type As String, ByVal Priority As String, ByVal Account As String, ByVal DueDate As String, ByVal Status As String, ByVal Description As String, ByVal AnnBudget As String, ByVal oppType As String, ByVal partNumber As String, ByVal currency As String, ByVal Territory As String, ByVal Owner As String, ByVal Opp As String) As String
    Dim opportunity As nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity = New nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity
    Dim input As New nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.OpportunityInsert_Input
    Dim results As New nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.OpportunityInsert_Output
    Dim strPriority As String = "1-High,2-Medium,3-Low"
    Dim strType As String = "Call,Correspondence,Email,Event,Final Shipment - Book,Final Shipment - Special,Lead Follow-Up,Meeting,Opportunity Follow-Up,Other,Presentation,Quote Follow-Up,Sample Follow-Up,Service Request Follow-Up"
    Dim strStatus As String = "Completed,Deferred,Waiting For Someone Else,In Progress,Not Started,Assigned,In Call"
    CRMAddFinalShipmentOpportunity2 = ""
    ' Validate Data (CRM will validate if owner is valid)
    If Owner = "" Then
    AddError("Error: Missing Owner")
    Exit Function
    End If
    If Subject = "" Then
    AddError("Error: Missing Subject")
    Exit Function
    End If
    If strType.IndexOf(Type) < 0 Then
    AddError("Error: Invalid or Missing Type")
    Exit Function
    End If
    If strStatus.IndexOf(Status) < 0 Then
    AddError("Error: Invalid or Missing Status")
    Exit Function
    End If
    If strPriority.IndexOf(Priority) < 0 Then
    AddError("Error: Invalid or Missing Priority")
    Exit Function
    End If
    If Not IsDate(DueDate) Then
    AddError("Error: Invalid or Missing DueDate")
    Exit Function
    End If
    Try
    opportunity.Url = Session.GetURL()
    opportunity.CookieContainer = Session.GetCookieContainer()
    'Create the opportunity
    Dim tmpAry(0) As nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0) = tmpAry
    input.ListOfOpportunity.SetValue(New nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity, 0)
    'Assign the opportunity Properties
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).Owner = Owner
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).OpportunityName = Subject
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).AccountName = Account
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).SalesStage = "Rebuy"
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).CloseDate = Date.Today
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).Territory = Territory
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).stProject_Name = "FINAL SHIPMENT REBUY"
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).SourceCampaign = "Rebuy"
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).OpportunityType = oppType
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).Revenue = AnnBudget
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).Description = Description
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).bRebuy = "Y"
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).ProductInterest = partNumber
    input.ListOfOpportunity(0).plCurrency_Type = currency
    'input.ListOfOpportunity(0).ParentoptyId = Opp
    'insert the opportunity
    results = opportunity.OpportunityInsert(input)
    If results.ListOfOpportunity.Length > 0 Then
    CRMAddFinalShipmentOpportunity2 = results.ListOfOpportunity(0).OpportunityId
    End If
    Catch webex As WebException
    AddError(webex.Message)
    Catch ex As Exception
    AddError(ex.Message)
    End Try
    End Function
    What changes might I need to make in order to make this function correctly using Web Services 2.0?
    Currently I get the following errors- For every line of input.ListOfOpportunity(0) I get: '..cannot be indexed because it has no default property.'
    Another example of an issue I'm running into is: 'SetValue' is not a member of 'nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.ListOfOpportunityData'

    We were able to make this work by re-modeling my code after a code sample I found that creates new Activities.
    Here's my code in case it helps someone scanning these forums in the future (Disregard the Opportunity entries that are missing when you compare this to my earlier code- Those weren't relevant to making this work or not work, I simply am not using them now.):
    Public Function CRMAddFinalShipmentOpportunity2(ByVal Session As Session, ByVal Owner As String, ByVal Subject As String, ByVal Type As String, ByVal Priority As String, ByVal DueDate As String, ByVal Status As String, ByVal Description As String, ByVal POValue As String, ByVal oppType As String, ByVal partNumber As String, ByVal currency As String, ByVal servername As String, ByVal pass As String, ByVal usrname As String) As String
    'Get SessionID
    Dim sessionId As String
    sessionId = getSessionLogin(usrname, pass, servername)
    Dim Opportunity As nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity = New nkkcrm.SiebelOpportunity20.Opportunity

Another thing to notice is that I can send a file of almost 10MB size to the database using web service without any problem. But it doesn't work with the 30 MB .)

    Sorry for the delayed response here, forget to add it to my watchlist. I didn't catch if you were using Java 1.5 or not. Prior to 1.5 the default maximum heap space was 64MB which with the overhead of the appserver might be your problem.
    Take a look at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/vm/gc-ergonomics.html and the java -Xmx <size> command line option to change the default (I believe the size argument is in bytes, but don't hold me to that). I think you can pass that as a command line option to the startup script, but you should check the doco to see if it needs to be wrapped in some other arg etc.,
    I seem to recall running into this same problem a few years back when I had a servlet doing some intense graphics processing on the fly and setting this option fixed the problem.
