Using WEP w/ DOS based PC and 350 card.

We are currently using a DOS based PC that runs only a 5250 emulator. We connect to the network via a Cisco 350 card on a wide open wireless network. We have successfully set one of these units up to run of WEP side of our wireless. But all other units we cannot get to connect. We have tried loading all the different firmwares for the 350 card. All of the 4.x firmwares load fine and sets WEP key but won't connect to network. When we load the 5.x versions of the firmware, we get a Error Accessing Card: 8007 error when loading WEP key. We are wondering how to be able to get around this 8007 error, to be able to successfully try to connect with the newest firmware of the 350 card. Any thoughts?

If you have windows version you can use that to setup the WEP keys.For the version 5.x there is no explicit mention for the support of DOS.For using DOS version 4.x seems to work fine.The DOS utilities run well under MS-DOS 6.22. For the PCM350 and LM350 PCMCIA cards, the DOS utilities do not use card and socket services for configuring the cards; they program the PCMICIA socket directly. Furthur Understanding of using WEP with TKIP, MIC, PPK, and BKR

While implementing The Cisco Wireless Security Suite across an 802.11b (2 350 Bridges)link, I have to ask a question.
I used to use 4 X 128 bit keys for just the WEP part (WEP screen has 4 places to set the keys).
On the Radio>advanced Screen, you have the place to set your MIC and your Per Packet Keying...understanding that Per-Packet Keying assigns a new WEP key to each frame, is it necessary to Set 4 WEP keys on the WEP key screen?? Or should I set just one? Do I have to set any with PPK enabled on the Radio>advanced screen? Or is this done dynamically by the bridges??

Yes you are accurate, you can select which key you want to use by clicking Transmit Key.

Just got a new IPOD Touch and it wont connect to our Wifi home network with a Belken N Router. Our router uses WEP 64 bit security, but had a "blank" password field, which the IPOD did not like. Changing to a 6 char numeric PW didnt help either.

I cannot understand why the APPLE engineers have designed this product so that it has SO MANY WIFI problems. This is supposed to be an easy-to-use product. We've had no problems connecting our new laptop, our ROKU box, etc, but it seems impossible to get the IPOD touch to work. Ok, sorry for the rant, but surely those of you who are experiencing this share my frustration. This is not why I bought an APPLE product.
IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT APPLE WILL NOT ALLOW A WIFI PASSWORD with more than one identical alphanumeric character? Any ideas? We also tried eliminating the 40 MHZ setting under Bandwidth settings in the router settings for our router, but it made no difference. The router has the latest firmware, too. Running out of ideas, and am ready to box this unit up and send it back!

Thanks, Bob! You are correct. And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE). One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind. Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers. Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

the host and port depends on your network setup of your VM.
Do an ifconfig -a and see what IP adress your guest has.
With this IP address you should be able to access EM from outside your VM (but on the VM host, not from outside the network) with the same port.

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.

Read the router's user manual on how to change your password.
If you are going to select another password, make sure it's one that you will NEVER forget AND no one else can figure it out. Print it out & keep in a safe place. A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.

Using wrt160v2 on vista using wep and it asks for a pw and a "logon main"?

First, I would not use WEP security, it's about as effective as using no security. Use WPA or WPA2, they are much more secure. Unless you have established a local domain name server (DNS Server) for your local home network you don't have a domain. Just leave it blank.

In cases like this, we normally recommend that you use some
sort of a remoting application to establish a remote connection to
the desktop you wish to record. Then drive the application remotely
and record using Captivate.

The BIOS download page only gives you the Winflash & I need to flash this laptop in DOS.... ....have installed Safeboot as part of NHS policy & I am now locked out of the keyboard & touchpad, have tried a USB keyboard with no luck.
Safeboot is a disk encryption package which initializes before windows boots therefore I am unable to use Winflash.
May have to find a Windows OS on a bootable CD if this DOS based BIOS flasher cannot be found.......

Unfortunately the DOS based BIOS is not available on the Toshiba European driver page and therefore you will be not able to download it.
Im not quite sure if it would be possible but maybe a local ASP could be able to provide such BIOS version Just contact the guys and ask simply
But in my personal opinion its advisable to flash the BIOS using a Win-based version because its much safer.

How do I use one set of XML data and populate multiple layouts with it?

I have an XML document with root element BOOK. Inside BOOK are PAGEs. (I also have each PAGE as it's own XML file, so that I can update each PAGE individually.)
I have a print layout of 6"x9" and I want to create an iPad layout (H & V).
When I create the V layout, I have the 6x9 master set to "scale" in liquid layouts and it works great. But in my XML structure, everything gets duplicated. Now there are two sets of data. When I create the H layout, now I have three sets of data.
So then I tried deleting everything in my iPad masters and setting them to be based on my print masters, but the content isn't scaling.
Let me know if you have questions, because I'm not sure where I might need to clarify. Thanks in advance!

Roger, the System setting have -Nothing- to do with the question being asked. Do you use Logic Pro audio software? If you did you would know Logic has it's own audio settings that run independently from the System audio. There's also the fact that Maverick has problems with "some" older USB 2.0 audio hardware. I am reconfiguring our dual 2.7 Intel Xserve running MacOSXServer 10.5.4, and had a question.
Is it possible (or advisable) to use en0 to perform LAN services, and then configure en1 to only allow access to very limited service. VPN, FTP, CALDAV and later Mail.
I imagine that this is possible via a firewall configuration, but first I do not know how to specify interface in addition to ports, and second I don't know how advisable this would be.
Currently I have a DSL package from ATT with 5 static IP addresses. I have an Airport Extreme set up as one of those addresses providing DHCP and NAT to the LAN. I am using the LAN ports on the back of that to bridge my three switches (2 managed [clients and oce print server 100 base-T] and 1 unmanaged [ laser printers and copier 10 base-T]).
I have the LAN based on 192.168.0.x, with the Xserve at 192.168.0.5. I have DNS configured and working (Thank you Antonio Rocco)

I would like to configure VPN, one for me to access configurations when I am away using Remote Desktop (I have used command line to some extent, but still feel more comfortable with the GUI tools) and second for limited access to content for certain users.
It would also be very helpful for us to have a FTP site. It is unnecessary for this the be a FQDN service, sending the IP address is perfectly acceptable as we only use a service like this 10-15 times a year.
(Related but unimportant in the grand scheme, is there a way to generate a link to the FTP server that you could email that not only is a link, but also a temporary username and password?)

First, I missed a zero in the network speeds, I have two managed GbE switches that have all of the GbE capable machines connected to them, and an unmanaged GbE switch that has all the 10 or 100Base-T connections. My apologies for the mistake. That was one of the reasons I went with the GbE capable Airport to bridge the switches.
Ok, I had been leaning towards a separate hardware firewall, but here is also where there is a hole in my knowledge. Do I need to look at something like the Linksys RVS4000 which bills itself as a +"4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN. Secure, smart Gigabit networking for growing business"+ I would like easy configuration, as I take care of these systems in addition to my job, rather than full time. This will be the first time I have set up a VPN connection, so even though I have spent a lot of time researching the manuals, and reading Schoun Regan (Apple Training Series) I don't have real world experience here. So if I buy more hardware, I want it to be the product that will provide the protection, and also allow me to configure it so that I can get these services running. All my VPN clients are running Macs, most on an AIrport connection and have their IP ranges in the 10.0.1.x range. all but one is on OS 10.5.x so I have a fairly homogeneous set of machines to make work together.
I will review the links you provided regarding static routing, but I do believe the hardware solution is a better one, and wish to pursue it, for all the reasons you give, and that in the brief perusal of the links, it is more than I want to tackle.
As far as FTP vs sFTP, I have no preference. I simply want a way to have online storage for transfer of large files on occasion. Ideally I want a folder, or a series of folders that are accessible for my LAN users to put items in and take them out, and for my (s)FTP users to do the same
So long story short, the hardware solution I would like to purchase, I need to be able to do the following:
VPN connections for content access and ARD access ( knew about and will ensure differing IP ranges)
(s)FTP
Calendar publishing
mail(at a later time)

Buy one hard drive for TimeMachine, large as possible for maximum amount of saved states, keep it connected more often so it updates more often to recover deleted files.
Buy one hard drive the same size or slightly larger to clone your boot drive to it, it will be a hold option key bootable clone in case your boot drive fails to boot. Update it before doing anything major to your machine. Keep it disconnected in case of malware so it doesn't get infected or delete your files.
Buy one hard drive for extra storage if your boot drive is getting full for instance.
Buy one hard drive to backup the extra storage drive and treat it like the clone, make sure you have clean extra storage drive before connecting and updating it.
Label and date each drive, your memory will fail you and you'll accidentally overwrite a drive.
Keep your drives separate and in their respective purposes, in other words do not use partitions or use TimeMachine to backup other drives.
Never use Filevault, it's cracked, it's worthless, impossible to recover data and you'll have to give up the password for repair or customs/searches anyway. Use a external hardware based encrypted drives and USB Iron Keys. This way your sensitive data is off the machine and can be used with another machine.
Despite how many drives and backups, it's good to also make burned and labeled DVD's of your most important files like music for instance when you first get them. It's because sectors fail on hard drives and takes out your data and thus on all backups made afterwards. With burned DVD's it's permanent, unless you scratch it, melt it or loose it.
Hardware also fails, more often than software because it's moved/abused while in operation.
If you lose your TM drive, you ALSO lose what's on the other partitions on the drive or data that TM drive was backing up from other drives.
Drives are cheap, data is not. Protect the data. Because it's a fortune trying to recover lost data off a dead drive.
