Using Windows 7 Default File Requester

Hi
Is there any way to get Illustrator CS4 & CS5 to use the standard Windows file dialogue in the File menu 'save as' and 'open' options? I have a number of Favourites pointing to locations on the network where Adobe files are stored and it's laborious having to navigate there manually every time I save a new file. Other design software allows you to do this.
Thanks for your time!

Is there any way to get Illustrator CS4 & CS5 to use the standard Windows file dialogue in the File menu 'save as' and 'open' options?
They are... It's just the one without the location bar. There is no way to enforce the location bar, this stuff is hard-coded in the apps themselves. The best you can do is create a dummy folder inside your "My Documents" folder that contains all your links. You might also add more paths by settings system variables and adjusting your group policies. It may also be worthwile to check whether you cannot do anything with mapping additional sub-folders to separate drive letters.

  • Can javamail use windows default outgoing smtp mail server and port?

how can i use windows default outgoing smtp service and port from javamail? is it possible to retrieve this info or just instruct javamail to use default?
    thanks

Windows doesn't have a default SMTP server. However if you have something like Outlook or Outlook Express or Eudora or Netscape Mail or whatever set up on your Windows box, you will have already told it what SMTP server it should connect to.
That information would be in the Windows registry, or in the config file of whatever e-mail client you already have set up. However it's probably easier to just have your application ask for the SMTP server's name again rather than trying to find where some other application stashed it.

  • Partitioning previously used Windows NT File System for use with Mac and PC

With reference to this thread I found when searching for a solution: Can Windows NT File System(NTFS) format external hard drive work on iMac?
Below is the comment which led to me creating this new thread.

    Hi there,
I am about to follow your advice also for the same issue, the worry I have is that when I select partition 1, it says "To erase and partition the selected disk..." and so I am worried that if I do this it will erase the current contents of the hard disk drive (which were copied there from PCs in previous use).
If so, is there a way to use the hard disk drive with a mac without erasing the contents?
    Thanks
Your case is different and NO do not partition the EHD yet unless you are prepared to completely erase your PC data. Before progressing though, do you intend to share the EHD with a PC and your Mac? If so this is not advisable but it is possible, however you will need to compromise. Please answer that question first and then we can proceed with some advice.
BTW it's generally not a good idea to ask a question in a thread that has already been answered, particularly one that is 3+ years old! In such a case it's normally better to create your own thread. "
The answer to the question in the above comment is that ideally I would like to use with both Mac and PC, why is this not advisable?
Please discuss my best options. I am wondering if I could transfer the current contents of the disk drive elsewhere, partition (which would erase) the disk drive, then put back the contents along with the new files which I have been trying to put on in the first place?
If this were to work would I then be tied down to only using this disk drive with a Mac?
    Thank you.

Ideally it is best to have seperate (discreet) EHD's for a PC and Mac due to their differences in HD formatting. However, this is not always feasable but there are alternative solutions availble. Among those are:
Creating and useing a Dropbox account that can be shared by PCs, Macs, IOS and Android devices. Dropbox allows for 2GB of free storage and additional storage is available for a small monthly fee.
Another possiblity is formating an EHD so that it may be shared by both a PC and Mac, this format is FAT 32. The downside of doing this is the size of the files written to the HD are limited to 4GB.

  • Using Windows Azure File Service for Symbols Server

    Hi,
I am trying to understand how to use the Windows Azure File Service (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2014/05/12/introducing-microsoft-azure-file-service.aspx) for a Symbols Service.  I have not been able to find any documentation
to help guide me with this specifically.  Most of the guides I have found discuss creating a VM and File Server in Azure.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Azure Files can only be used from an Azure VM within the same region as the storage account.
it will work when setup a symbol server for azure VMs, if you trying to setup a symbol server for external client machines then this won’t work.

  • Using Windows CS5 files on a Mac

This is a generic question. I have never used a Mac based system, most of my time has been spent on Windows and several Unix, main frames etc. I really have  never used a Mac so I am ignorant of the real Mac basics.
I use CS5 Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign and  Dreamweaver mostly. If I had a client who was running on a Mac who  wanted me to supply files from any of the CS5 applications I use, can I  just supply the psd, ai files from my Windows machines and they will be  able to use them as is ? (I realise there are some font issues. Not sure  exactly what, though).
I could not locate any Adobe  document about moving between the two platforms, so I'm concluding the  OS is actually irrelevant to the CS5 apps. But, somehow I have this  niggling feeling that it will not be quite that simple.
    Can anyone help ?
    Thank you.

  • Can't restore Windows 7 file backup in Windows 8.1

    Hi There,
This seems to be quite a stupid issue to have but here we go...  before installing Windows 8.1 onto my laptop I took a backup of my user files using the Windows 7 backup tool which created me an array of zip files, with a catlog file and a MediaID.bin...
    all normal.
I then performed a fresh install of Windows 8.1, deleting the existing Windows 7 partitions.
Having completed the install I'm finding it impossible to restore my Windows 7 backup...  I can't even find a function which allows me to browse to a backup location to try and restore!?
The Windows 7 File Recovery tool isn't there any more, and for all intents and purposes "Recovery" doesn't seem to do anything useful... I don't want to restore a system image, just some files.
Can anyone help with my probable stupidity??  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Well I'm extracting the new backup set and guess what WinRAR 5.01 took care of the long filename problem, with a full video shortly. The long filenames was windowsold. The metro apps have very long names.
To all admins/MS employees after watching the next video, I'm asking for shadow
Darkken to stop repeatedly telling us this does not work when in fact this does.
    You really can't read.
Long filenames aren't the issue here. They never were, and I pointed that out several times.
Large files that get split across the set are the problem. As in some files are being split into multiple smaller files pieces that simply extracting and overwriting each other doesn't work.
Seriously, I give up. You simply do not hear people, you're too concerned with phantom issues that no one but you has brought up, and you don't take the time to actually pay any attention to what people are saying.
The article YOU posted even mentions these files, and advises people to ruin them and make them useless.
My problem was long filenames, anyways I have fully extracted and completed the backup set using winzip. For larger files I use this method.
    http://www.pcandtablet.com/windows-8-1-system-backup-and-restore/1552/how-to-use-windows-7-file-recovery-in-windows-8-1-a.html
Re: How to use Windows 7 file recovery in windows 8.1?
Windows 8.1 no longer has Windows Backup, because it has been replaced by the File History feature. In Windows 8, you could still access the Windows 7 backup/restore utilities, but these have been removed in Windows 8.1.
When you create a backup using Windows Backup, you should use the Restore Files wizard to restore the files. If you can't use the Restore Files wizard (for example, when you're using a computer that’s not running Windows Vista or Windows 7), you can manually
extract files from a backup by following these steps:
    1.       Open the location where your backup is saved.
The files in your backup are saved as zip files.
Right-click the backup file (a file with the Windows Backup icon and the name of your computer), and then click Open.
To manually extract files that are larger than 200 MBs
If a file is larger than 200 MBs, it will be split into multiple zip files. You will need to extract and then combine these files following these steps:
    1.       Open the location where your backup is saved.
Find the zip files that contain the file you want to extract. For example, if you're trying to extract a video file named BirthdayParty, you would find the zip files that contain files with that name.
Create a folder on your desktop to extract the files to.
Since the files all have the same name, you'll need to rename them as you extract them.
Extract the first file into the folder you created on your desktop and then rename the file.
Repeat this step until you have extracted all of the files, making sure that you name them similarly. For example, if you have four files for the BirthdayParty video, name them BirthdayParty1, BirthdayParty2, BirthdayParty3, and BirthdayParty4.
Open the Command Prompt window by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results, click Command Prompt.
Type the following command: copy /b filename*.file_extension new_filename.file_extension
    For example, copy /b BirthdayParty*.avi BirthdayPartyAll.avi
WINZIP OR WINRAR WILL WORK FOR YOU, IF NEEDED TO BE. VHD FILE WILL WORK FOR YOU IF YOU CREATED THE IMAGE. I HAVE NO PROBLEM RESTOREING 10 GIG ISO SPLIT INTO 5 FILES. I HAVE EVERY IMPORTANT FILE I
HAD IN WINDOWS 7 NOW TO USE WITH WIN8.1
Stop telling people this does not work. IT does. I do suggest anyone getting ready to install windows 8.1 to make a VHD file. You'll have less work to do. This method is for emergencys only. As  the person
asking the question asked. I supplied the answer for him/her to get the files back

    Yes.

  • Bridge Opens files using Windows Photo viewer - not Photoshop CC.  How do I change default?

Bridge opens image files using Windows Photo viwer - not Photoshop CC.  This is an utterly useless default setting.  How do I get Bridge to open a file in Photoshop?

Edit/preferences/file type association.  Set extensions to prefered default.

  • How do I reset the default file association for .bat files on Windows 8.1?

Windows 8.1 allows the user to change the file association for .bat files. I made the mistake of using this facility to change the default file association for .bat files to Notepad++. Now when I attempt to run a .bat file, the script for the .bat
comes up in Notepad++, instead of its being run as an executable file!  All my .bat files are now useless. I tried finding a way to change this back to the original executable setting, including deleting Notepad++ from my system, but nothing
    has worked.
There are discussions that I found on the Internet about this problem, and the solutions to which I was led have not worked either. Most of the solutions apply to Windows 7 or Vista, but not to Windows 8. There are a few solutions that purport to apply to Windows
8 and 8.1, but they do not work for me.
(Disconcertingly, some of the solutions presented for the problem that apply to Vista or Windows 7 and are dated as early as 2009, so this problem has apparently been around for some time, but Microsoft still keeps .bat files on the Control Panel facility that
enables the change to be made. I cannot see why, but there it remains.)
Can someone please help me change this file association back to the original setting for Windows 8.1? Remember, most if now all the links that address this issue are focused on Windows 7. I need an answer that has been tried and proven to apply to Windows 8.1.
    Nothing I have tried works.

    Hi,
For the issue, we can restore Default File Extension Type Associations through adding the registry entries.
    1. Download the .reg file from the following link.
    http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/tutorials/8025d1345781188-default-file-associations-restore-windows-8-bat.reg
Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.
    2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.
    3. Double click on the downloaded .reg file to Merge it.
    4. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
    5. Sign out and in, or restart the computer to apply.
    6. If you are logged in as a standard user and this still does not help, then have the administrator also merge the needed .reg file for the listed file extension or protocol below while logged into their administrator account.
    Hope this helps.

  • Default File name using CL_BDS_DOCUMENT_SET= CREATE_WITH_TABLE

    Hi folks,
We are using BSP application to display smartform in PDF format in a new page/window. When I try to save the PDF from the browser/window, its pops up a screen with defaults as "Desktop" and a File Name. I am not sure how system is generating the default file name. How can we change this File Name?
    Thanks for help!
    Best Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi,
It's done while creating the Response-Caching as in below code:
    cl_http_server=>server_cache_upload( url = filename   response = response ).
We can pass custom value in the variable filename.
    Kind Regards,
    Praveen

  • No Default ACL when using Windows Explorer?

No matter what Default ACL I specify on any user's account,
adding new documents using Windows Explorer causes an initial
ACL of "Published". Also, when I right-click on the iFS network
drive and select "iFS User Profile", it shows the Default ACL
    as "Published".
    Is this a known feature?
I want my users to be able to do everything from Windows
Explorer, but they need to copy and paste "template" folder
structures. If they do this in Windows Explorer, the ACL's do
not get copied. I could understand if someone says the pasted
folders are new folders, so they should get the user's Default
ACL, but even that isn't working, so the users must go through
each folder/file and reestablish an ACL using Windows Explorer.
BTW, The Web Application copies the ACLs in a copy/paste
    operation.
    Thanks,
    David Frankel

  • Windows native file dialog default sort is by date instead of name

I somehow managed to get the Windows common file dialog default sort to be by date instead of name, so I have to resort by name every time I select a VI to load. I haven't been able to identify the registry entry that tell how the MRU list is sorted. How do I make the default sort by name instead of date, short of removing and reinstalling LabVIEW?

I think its a Windows issue and nothing to do with LabVIEW since LabVIEW just calls the MS common dialog. Do you see the same behaviour when using Windows Explorer? I know that with Win2K, I can set the default folder view to always sort by date. To go back to the default, select My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View>Reset All Folders. I don't have easy access to any computers with a different OS right now so I can't describe what the process is for them.
