Using Windows 7 Home Premium on Macbook Pro 10.6.6

How can I find a manual or other information to use Windows 7 Home Premium on Mac Book Pro 10.6.6.
Specically, I am trying to find information concerning keyboard combinations that work on a PC that don't
use the same keystrokes on the Mac Book Pro (ie: what keystroke combintions to "print screens").
Also other infromation where Windows 7 differs on the Macbook Pro than what occurs on a PC.

So your looking for the keyboard mapping differences between the two operating systems.
As you know you can use a PC keyboard from someplace like Logitech and map the keys the way you want too.
So really all the hard work has been done for you, use the programable PC keyboard and everything works just like before.
If you search Apple's site you'll find all the OS X keyboard combinations.

  • Using Windows 8 with my macbook pro

    Hello,
I currently have a problem to install Windows 8.
Last week, I bought a Windows' 8 license.
The configuration of my macbook pro is the following :
    - i7 2,3 Ghz (four cores)
    - 8 Gb of RAM
    - A 256 Go SSD
    - A 750 Go Hybrid-disc
    - OS X 10.8.2
So I removed the Superdrive but I bought an ASUS external USB disc-drive (witch works with OS X)
I inserted the Windows 64 bits disc in the USB drive and I created a 50 Go partition for Windows on the SSD (FAT) with Bootcamp.
After this process, my macbook reboot but it bloked on the PC's shell interface without message, just the cursor (Right-Top).
I tried to reboot many times and to use the 32 bits disc but it is alredy the same.
I also tried to boot using the "C" key, the CD boot, i can see the fourth blue square on the screen, and durind 2 or 3 second the charging animation but after it says that there is an error (new blue screen very very quickly), or a black screen with somes information like "Error 00000050x0...".
However, I tried the alt key. 2 solutions :
    - "Windows 8", it is like the first situation (black screen with sursor)
    - "EFI boot" (it appeared once), the computer boot on the CD, I can acces to menus and tell the name of the hard disc I want for the installation. But when I want to continue, a window appear with a EFI problem and he says to reboot with a different configuration (but I am not sur).
What can I do to install windows 8 on my macbook pro ?
    I need it for Solidworks...
    Thank you for your answers.

  • How can I move an existing iTunes library from a Dell PC (which uses Windows Vista) to a MacBook Pro?  I have tried to copy the library from the PC onto a memory stick but cannot move from the stick onto the MacBook Pro.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc).  The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon.  They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective.  The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick.  I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary.  It did not do so.  I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library.  Cannot find those commands.  Does anybody know where to find such commands.  I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities.  I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC.  !!!  Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC?

  • Trying to download windows vista premium on macbook pro

i just bought windows vista premium from microsoft market place then tried to download it .... not working ... please advise

In order to install Windows Vista using Boot Camp on a Mac you will need the disk version, as the install process will not be able to read the downloaded files from the Mac drive.
If the download hasn't downloaded then you may wish to check with Microsoft.

  • Can I change the OS of Touchsmart 610 from Windows Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro?

I have 610 1100me system loaded with Windows Home Premium 64 bit.  We bought it from Dubai and is in use in Pakistan.  It started giving problems after few weeks of use.  Its' hard disk makes noise and sometimes, system could not find boot disk.  Most of the times blue screen of death and hanging issues.  Any idea about this issue and how to fix it?  My observation is that the culprit is hard disk!
Also, can I change its OS to Windows 7 Pro or ultimate (32 or 64 bit)?  Where can I find all drivers for Pro or Ultimate?
Many thanks for your valueable advice.

    Hi,
Nearly nothing change interms of drivers required for Windows 7 (HP, Pro, Ultimate) unless you switch from 64 to 32 bit. You can reuse your current HP 64 bit drivers for 64 bit W7 Pro or Ultimate.

You can use office for mac, on OSX, but not on windows.
You need to use the windows version, on windows 7.

if my external hard drive is not connected to either of my machines, and I download something onto my iMac and then something different onto my Macbook, where are my machines going to be storing the new downloaded media
when the drive is not connected, +iTunes media folder location+ will default back to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes/iTunes music (or media)
and when I next connect the external hard drive how will I easily get the newly downloaded media onto the external HD
you'd have to point +iTunes media folder location+ back to the external via preferences > advanced > iTunes media folder location, then file > library, organize library > consolidate files
and essentially, to have it easily readable on both machines?
in that case it might be best to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external. then, on each machine, launch iTunes while pressing option on your keyboard. when prompted, click on +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external.
note only one iTunes can access the iTunes library @ a time !
also, make sure the external is mounted on either machine before launching iTunes.

  • Installing Windows 7 Without Using The Boot Camp Installer (MacBook Pro)

I don't know if anyone knows this or not, but I was able to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro just using the Windows 7 install disk.
I restarted with the windows CD in, and when the screen said press any key to boot from CD, I pressed the space bar. When it got to the part to select the installation drive, I went into advanced and removed all the partitions and formatted the whole thing. There was a small system partition the cannot be deleted (probably reserved for the system). I was able to install Windows 7 and use the whole drive for it.
After running Windows 7, I was still able to install the Boot Camp Control Panel to set the keyboard, track pad, sound, and all the other funtions. If I tell it to reboot to the Apple OS, it just reboots to Window 7 with no problems.
Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool and might be helpful for people who want to run only Widows 7 on their MacBook Pro.
CAUTION... DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

People have been using Mac as Windows-only.
On Mac Pro, with 4 internal drives, it is normal to not use anything other than the Windows DVD and install onto a dedicated drive, same as you did, only change it from GPT to MBR first.
    There is no risk.
(Well, some feel that someone might 'need' OS X to do something like a firmware update I guess.)

I am installing Windows 7 and I get an error message: "Your disk could not be partitioned. An error ocurred while partitioning the disk". I was using a Windows & Home Premium OEM Software that I purchased from Microsoft. I was given to Windows 100GB to use for Quickbooks pro, Payroll and Publisher. I have the Macbook Pro model No: MD102LL/A. Does anyone knows what happenned or can advice me in what to do? Please help!!!

If you were using Apple's BootCamp and received this message, quit it and open Disk Uility in your Applicaitons/Utilities folder.
Select the Macintosh HD partition on the left and select Erase and Erase Free Space > Zero option and let it complete (important) this will check the spare space for bad sectors that can cause issues formatting partitions.
Once it's completed, try creating a partiton again in BootCamp.
If that doesn't work, then hold command option r keys down while connected to a fast internet connection, Internet Recovery should load (spinning globe) and then in that Disk Utility, select your entire internal drive and click > First Aid > Repair Disk and Permissions.
    reboot and attempt Bootcamp again.
If you still get a error, it might be that you have OS X data on the bottom area where BootCamp partition needs to go. This would occur if you had the drive or computer for a long time or wrote a large amount of files to the drive and nearly filling it up and then reduced some, but it left traces in the area BootCamp needs to go.

  • Windows 7 only on Macbook Pro

Greetings and salutations. I have a 2.16ghz macbook pro, and was recently given a copy of Windows 7 ultimate. I tried it via bootcamp, and fell in love with it. I found myself using it more and more, so often in fact that I just realized that I haven't been to my mac partition in weeks. I would like to make a fresh install of windows 7 on my macbook pro, and have it be a dedicated windows machine. I'm curious if this is an easy feat, shouldn't I just be able to install the OS normally like on any other computer? I have a Leopard install disk for the drivers, so in theory it should work just fine right? I appreciate your help and understanding, I also appreciate that you were nice enough to not ask me why OS X isn't good enough, or why I want to ditch it altogether. Thanks again!

A tiny Mac OS (Apple only) can be 30GB or less.
In this day and age, 99% of updates should be able to be applied from USB flash memory card running OS X; USB external drive; or other means.
Seeing how there was something about possible firmware updates (EFI, graphics, SuperDrive) already, and these may already have been what were mentioned as "improve Windows compatibility".... who knows. Always short on details.
Wiping OS X is easy, backing up and restoring Windows is less so (though I do use Home Premium's backup and system image backup and just burned a system repair utility DVD). Acronis though has said "No support for Apple Boot Camp" which is sad, even with Plus-Pack that adds GPT support.

  • Network issue using Time Warner, Airport Extreme, MacBook Pro OSX, Windows7

I have the following on my home network:
    - Time Warner cable-internet and phone service.
    - Apple Airport Extreme Base Station hooked up to the cable modem
    - MacbookPro running OS 10.6.3 connected wirelessly to airport extrm
    - HP Laptop running Windows 7 connected wirelessly to airport extrm
    - HP Officejet Pro 8500 connected to wirelessly to the airport extrm
    - iPhone connected wirelessly to the airport extrm
    - XBox connected via ethernet cable to airport extrm
    - USB external hard drive connect via USB cable to airport extrm
My network worked fine with only my Macbook Pro, Airport Extreme, iPhone, XBox, and occasionally my buddy's Macbook Pro all on the network at the same time.
I recently added an HP Laptop running Windows 7 and a wireless HP Printer to the network at the same time.
Now if both the Windows 7 PC and the Macbook Pro are on the network at the same time, one of the machines will get booted from the internet. At one point, I got a message on my MacBook Pro that said another computer on the network is using the same IP address. I also have trouble communicating with the new HP printer if both the Windows 7 and the Macbook Pro machines are on the network at the same time.
How should I set up my airport extreme to allow all machines to function properly on my network. Right now, the network is set up to receive IP addresses automatically through the DHCP server. I read somewhere that maybe setting up the computers to manual static IP addresses and manually entering in the DNS server info into the airport extreme may fix my problem. I also read that configuring the network to all share a single IP address will fix the issue. How do I set this up. I would also like to keep my network invisible from being seen. Is this still possible?
Thanks for your help on this!!

To change the IP address on a Mac, go to settings, then select the network interface you use, then, change Automatic to manual. I don't know how to do this on windows 7, and you can access and change your printers settings by clicking in the bookmark windows on Safari, clicking printers, and open up it's settings.
