The speed of transfer also depends on how the external HD is connected, and how it was formatted.
The easiest way to move that kind of volume of photos (and it will take some hours) is to create a folder for them on the external HD, and then use SyncTwoFolders to make an exact copy of the folder now containing all your photos, in the new folder on the external.

I was requested to do a software update, but the window just keeps showing that it is connecting to the update server. How long should it take?

I was requested by Mozilla Firefox to do an update, and per the request I clicked on the update. A window came up (it is now gone@#$^&!!!!) and it just kept repeating that it was connecting to the update server. It appeared to be actively trying to connect, but I never got a message saying that it did and that the update had indeed been done. Can you please assist me with this issue?

I downloaded mountain lion; now it won't stop "moving calendars to server account". How long should this take?

I have just installed Mountain Lion and was initially thrilled to see that my
calendars for iphone and ipad finally synced! However, the message on
my MacBook Pro calendar page is "moving calendars to server account"
and it's been doing that for about 1.5 hours at this point. The only way to get
out of calendar is to force quit, and when I restart, and go back to calendar,

1500Kbs is 1.5Mbs. That is Kilo bits per second. There are 8 bits to a byte so if you divide 1500 (or 1,500,000) by 8 you get 187500 bytes a second. Divide 3.5GBs (3,500,000,000), that capitol B is for Bytes, by that 187500 you get 18666.666 seconds. Which needs to be divided by 60 to get the minutes and then again by 60 to get the hours.

I use to have a 3Mbs DSL connection and it took me over 3 hours to download Lion. Now that I have a 19Mbs Cable connection it take about an hour to download and install.
So wait it will happen eventually. If you cancel and start again your are still going to wait 5+ hours.

I bought a new Macbook Pro today. At 4:30pm I started downloading Lion. It is still not done yet. The blue bar under the Lion head is not even half way across!

I am plugged into the router with an ethernet cable. It is a wireless router but I am not connecting to the router wirelessly. I have cable internet. Not the fastest speed available, but it is still cable internet not dial up or DSL.
Is something wrong with my computer or the download?

It depends on what bottlenecks you have interposed.
If you have a fast Ethernet connection, not cable Internet, that is not throttled by your ISP, and are using fast Ethernet on your local network, you should be able to download in about an hour.
If you are transmitting it over your wireless connection, it may take substantially longer.

I'm having the same problem. I have my main Library on a WXP machine and a new W7 laptop. My iphone 4 sees the library from the W7 machine, but neither the laptop nor the iphone see the big library on the WXP machine. I have configured firewall settings, tried the network wired and wireless, using same apple id on all devices, restarted itunes on all computers, turned sharing off and on on all computers. Yesterday we were forced to perform a non-authoritative sync of the SYSVOL folder as replication had stopped because one of the DCs had been disconnected from it's replication partner for more than 60 days (caused by a unexpected shutdown and we did not
pick up on the fact replication had stopped until now).
I performed the non-authoritative sync of the SYSVOL folder and now the folder is in state 2
ReplicatedFolderName ReplicationGroupName State
SYSVOL Share Domain System Volume 2
and has been for more than 12 hours. The DFS replication health report, reports "This member is waiting for initial replication for replicated folder SYSVOL Share".
How long should it take and is there anyway to force it so that replication can resume?

I have an RVS-4000 and it sends me error message by email on errors. Yet I do not have any documentation on what these error messages mean. I asked these question last May and still have not received any answers.
I was told it had been forwarded to a engineer for creatation of this documentation in May. Here we are...
Do any of you agree we need this type of documentation on our Routers? I think it should have been created before these where sold and included with these Routers. Maybe if we all voted on it. Then It might still happen?
