Using Windows, now Mac

I have my Ipod that I have been using with Windows in which I have gotten all my songs and pics on it. I have just recently bought a new IMac and would like to load all my songs and pics into the IMac. I know with the version I used to use you had to select manually manage songs into order for the library not to automatically update. Where is this option now? I don't want to just plug my Ipod in and lose all my content can anyone help me?
Thanks

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, (on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
However if your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod will appear in the iTunes source list from here you can change the update setting to manual in the Summary pane which you'll see if you click on the iPod icon: Managing content manually on iPod
If you want to copy your iPod contents back to iTunes then there's a manual method of copying from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Can I use Windows for Mac in iCloud?

Hello, I would like to use Windows for Mac or any similar program, but I don't want to store it on my hard drive. Can I use it in iCloud, or any other Cloud environment?
Would you recommend a good Windows for Mac type of program?
    Thank you!

A virtual machine is a program, see my above post, that lets you install Windows in a virtual environment on your computer. You can not run Windows from iCloud or any other cloud.
As for cost, you have to by the virtual machine (about $60). You also have to buy Windows (about $99). Or you could use Boot Camp Assitant to install Windows. Boot Camp Assistant is included with OSx. Windows will still cost about $99.

  • Can I use Windows for Mac?

My boss bought me Parallels Windows for Mac.
Why would I want to use that?
    Would it harm my Mac?
Would my Mac be suseptive to viruses with that?

He said in case I wanted to run something that would require windows.
I do not like Windows, I use it at work because I do not have a choice.
Whatever document or anything that anyone sends me that my iMac will not open I just delete.
He also bought me Acronis True Image for Mac, for Backups, but what he does not know is that I purchased a
WD My Passport for Mac 2TB and that is how I back up my Mac once a month.
I feel bad he is such a nice boss. But I really do not like installing things in my Mac that are unnecessary or that might be
    harmful to my Mac.

  • Using windows for mac

I am new to computing. My Mac is intel based with OS 10.7.5.  I read on one of the communities that if I use boot camp
to download windows 7 it would open up my mac for PC viruses.
If I get windows for mac from the app store, will I be suseptible to PC viruses

Boot Camp installs Windows on a separate partition from OS X. When you boot Windows OS X is not running, so any malware from Windows cannot affect OS X.
Windows must be purchased separately as there is not 'windows for Mac.' There is Windows only.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Plugged Ipod into Mac after using Windows--Now Corrupted

My friend recently plugged my ipod into his mac and my pc computer wont recognize it anymore. The screen is different when it says "do not disconnect" like it would be if you use a mac with it. I got it to recognize it once, restored it and loaded up my music again which worked until I plugged it in to my computer the next time and the mac do no disconnect came up and now some songs wont play and it will cycle through playlists and skip some of the songs. Please help...i want to kill my friend who plugged it into his mac.

    Daphne,
Quite alright, as for the music transfer you can still use said way as before.
Using your ipod as a disk to move music is really only good if you have the original hard drive to use. You must copy the files onto your ipod in a different manner then that of iTunes. Example You would open my computer drag the files 'including music' to your ipod. You would then plug your ipod to your mac, it will mount a little ipod icon on your desktop, you would then drag the files off of your ipod either into the correct music folder or (if you have it setup in itunes to copy to itunes music folder) right to itunes.
As for formated correctly Macs are more then capable of reading and writing to an ipod formated on Windows. However you will have a much smoother experience if you formate it to work with your mac.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Plugged Ipod into Mac after using Windows--Now Corrupted Please Help

    Ipod 1.2.1
My friend plugged it into his Mac, Ive been using it on my PC. It says its corrupted now when I plug it into the PC. I restore it and it says its restored but then the "do not disconnect" mac screen comes up (looks different than the do not disconnect pc screen), and when I try to restore it again, it wont recognize it. How can I fix this problem??

Sorry, it is a bit confused
Your iPod is a 3rd Generation (clickwheel) or (touch wheel),
    is it a dock connector?
You need to do the Reset:-
For clickwheel - Press select+menu keys
For touch wheel - Press Play/Pause+Meny buttons
until you see the apple logo
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer

  • Which is the better option for using windows on mac ...parallel or vm ware fusion

i want to use c# ,.net, c++ , on my macbook pro ....which software i should purchase parallel or vmware fusion

They both work well. I like Fusion. Others like Parallels. Still others like VirtualBox.
They all have free trials, VirtualBox is a free product, so try them for yourself and stick with the one that works best for you.
I opted to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

  • How to get 2 finger scrolling when using windows on mac?

I just recentley put windows on my mac and i have installed all of the drivers for it to run but im having trouble with a few things like the f keys wont work for brightness or keyboard brightness and the other thing that wont qork is the 2 fingered scrolling then the volume buttons.

In Windows there is a task bar located in the lower right of your desktop. There is a Bootcamp icon there, if you installed Bootcamp in Windows. Click on the icon and open the Bootcamp control panel. Select the keyboard and trackpad tab then set up your two finger scrolling etc.

  • Use windows, want MAC, write openGL applications

    Hello,
Apparently I am still a fool in using a MAC and i don't have a
clue about using it but i want to buy such a thing.
    2 Problems:
I am a hobby programmer of OpenGL and want to know wether programming MAC application is like (with "like" i don't mean "exactly like" of coure) Win32 API. Ok, All I want is creating
OpenGL applications on MAC. Is this a big problem for a young guy like me?
    Next:
I am using much Win32 Apps like Milkshape3D (for OpenGLprogramming). Are there similar Apps on Mac which effect exactly the same or are there Win32 emulatoren on which WinApps can be ran on Mac.
I know i am a fool, please don't mention it in your answers again
    Thx for all!

    Hi,
Writing OpneGL programs on the mac will be no problem for a young guy like you. Hillegass's book has an example OpenGL/Objective-C program in it. There are quite a few examples on the Apple ADC example code pages too (it's worth joining ADC - there is a free membership option which is good enough for hobbyists like me). I'd recommend learning Objective-C to program OpenGL stuff - nothing beats Objective-C in my opinion (it might even wean you off OpenGL - have a look at quartz 2d and core image). You'll be using Xcode as the IDE - it's good, powerful and easy to use.
As I don't use a pc I can't say anything about your second question except dump the pc, it's holding you back...
    Cheers,
    MrFluff

  • I want to use Windows on my Mac, but Boot Camp doesn't work (Mac OS X 10.7.3)

Everyone knows that w/ Boot Camp you can use Windows on Mac, but I can't.

    common issues:
downloading the drivers with Boot Camp Assistant
Not reading the guide from in Boot Camp Assistant
Wanting to use XP (not supported)
    Not enough disk space
Space is too fragmented - and people don't know or understand the error or how to even backup and then erase and restore (very basic part of prevention and use of computers).

  • Windows for Mac....Highly dissapointed with LIon.

I use Windows for Mac for ALL of my studies and now I can not open any of my .doc files...any ideas?

    PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.7)
I'm becoming suspicious of the sheer volume of people signing up to post nonsensical complaints about 10.7. There are obviously a lot of valid issues, but I don't think this is one.
Obviously JSMFit4Life is struggling to understand the difference between Windows and Office. He's also certainly not using a PowerBook running 10.7. The whole thing seems a little contrived.

  • Why Isight is missing?, how to fix boot camp on 2008 iMAC using windows 8.1? can't redownload Lion.

Basically I'm troubleshooting, I have been having problems with my webcam ever since I installed a new hard drive, it seem's to be turned on due to the light above so I'm sure what else to do about it because both Windows/Mac OS aren't picking it up.
At first I thought there be some 'drivers' from the boot camp files that I could manually install, like I did with the other devices but that didn't seem to work for the camera. Also I hear Windows would be fine using either Boot Camp 4,5 to download the appropriate files but each time I try anything I get something about 'unsupported hardware' because before I could install Boot Camp 3 fine but before I was running under 32bit Windows because I hadn't realised at the time that the Mac was using 64bit so it seems like it has something to do with the conversion from 32 to 64 bit but that wouldn't make much sense the Mac OS as far as I'm aware was always 64bit.
And I noticed if I try to be download via the Mac side for the boot camp files then I get 'The Windows support software is not available' but to be fair I have never had any luck in the past with getting those files off the mac side ever.
So in short 2 problems Webcam, Boot Camp need to work but are currently having issues.
Also I can't redownload 'Lion' since it's been saying 'item not available', which is rather frustrating since I originally paid for it, I'm forced to stick to Snow Leopard, I'm baffled to why I can't redownload from my history like I do with Xbox or Steam.

Couldn't edit the question so thought add that the Imac camera light is turned on while using Windows, the Mac OS so it should be connected but it isn't.

  • I have just bought a mac and also have windows installed but how do i change from windows into mac?

I have just bought a mac and need to know how to change from using windows into Mac. When the mac starts up windows come up but i want to use Mac?

To set the default boot volume use the Startup Manager system preferences once you are booted back into the OSX.  Then you would only need the option key at boot time to boot into the "other" OS.

  • Can you use Windows 7 Support software (drivers) for Windows XP on bootcamp?

I'm just wondering, I'm installing windows XP on my mac running lion. I don't have my lion install disk but Im able to install 'windows 7 support software' from bootcamp which I put on a usb flash drive. My friend says I can use that for Windows XP drivers but i'd just like to ask here.
So basically, can I use windows 7 mac drivers for windows XP? If not is there anywhere I can download them?
