Using Windows Server 2008 with After Effects as Render Slave?

Hi guys,
We have a fair number of servers that run Windows Server 2008 64bit.  We wanted to further utilize these boxes and wanted to know if it's possible to use them as render slaves with After Effects?  Anybody doing this?  We couldn't find anything for system requirements on Windows Server 2008.
Thanks for everyone's input.
Jason

Hi Todd,
Another question for ya.  Does it matter if we have some machines still running 32-bit render slaves for after effects and implement a master 64-bit CS5 after effects Master?  Can you mix it up OR do all the machines have to be upgraded to the same version, eeven though they are just render slaves?  We are just doing some thinking on reconfiguration and what to do so it's right the first time.
Thanks for the input.

  • Is a 64 core machine running Microsoft's Windows Server compatible with After Effects CC and other CC apps?

I'm trying to build an editing / render machine that has a 64 threaded cores which requires me to use windows server.  Has anyone here ever try to run Creative Cloud on a Windows server 2012? Also, any opinions regarding effectiveness, compatibility, and thoughts about this set up is welcome, I would like to hear what you guys think.  This station will primarily be used a render station and to edit 4k video through a fiber network.

Well, since you asked: Makes no sense. First off, Adobe desktop apps are generally not officially supported on any server operating systems. That doesn't mean they won't run, but there's no guarantees for anything. Second, if you wanted to use all the cores e.g. for MP rendering in AE, you'd only have 2 GB per core, which isn't much. You will run into all sorts of memory errors. Of course you can skew the balance by using less cores/ processors, but then you don't need 4 processors in the machine in the first place. Also currently AE's MP rendering only allows to use 32 processes at most, anyway. Still, even then the file I/O required to sustain all those 32 instances would probably kill your system. Third, and now we are getting to a point, due to how many things in AE work, limitations imposed by CoDecs and effects and a million other things you may end up never using more than 2 cores on a single processor and things feel like on an Amiga. And well, similar considerations would be true for AME, Premiere and whatever other tools/ programs. Sorry, but this is a highly fictional "What if...?" computer or an Edsel. The way they currently work, no Adobe app could ever feed this beast and exploit all the performance. In fact for 4K work in Premiere you may need a totally different graphics system like a Titan. You simply have things completely wrong and are solely focusing on processing power without seeing the bigger picture. You need to sit down and think it over.

  • Installing PeopleSoft HRMS 9.0 on Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008

    Hi there,
Recently I was involved to develop a POC with PeopleSoft and as I was very new to PeopleSoft, I had bunch of issues while installing PeopleSoft. It took me almost more than couple of weeks to finally get the PeopleSoft Application up and running.
I had bunch of questions also asked in this Oracle forum like :
Step by Step PeopleSoft HRMS Installation from scratch.
Tuxedo10gR3VS2008 patches absolutely needed for Peopetools Installation
Thanks to the replies from all you folks. That helped a lot. Anyways, so I thought of just writing a blog about the things I did while installing PeopleSoft on Windows with SQL as backend DB. There are many posts already on the web describing the steps but mostly with Oracle DB and Linux. Hence, here are the posts for PeopleSoft on Windows:
    http://geekswithblogs.net/BizTalkUnleashed/archive/2012/01/24/installing-peoplesoft-hrms-9.0-on-windows-server-2008-with-sql-again.aspx
Hope it helps to newbie's in PeopleSoft Apps like me.

    Vijay
I hate to be rude, but I am following you for a couple of days now on this forum and even in the same tread and it looks like you do not want to helped, you just want quick answers. I do not see you putting any effort nor show any respect for the product or the people how try to help you. Keep in mind that everyone on this forum is voluntarily posting answers, nobody is getting paid, and I'm sure you do not pay to post here either, so please do not use words as asap and immediate.
You started of wrong, by following a post and not following the installation manual and even tried installing the wrong components.
The post was written by someone with experience on the subject who meets the installation requirements, with all respect to the poster of the blog.
I have to backup Nicolas in his saying.
Nicolas has asked you to use better thread title (more informative than just "installation help") and you created a new thread with this subject.
This does not say anything about the issue you are facing now.
I doubt you can successfully complete this installation, not meant personally, but you are using the wrong software, on the wrong OS, with no documentation.
    My advise:
Stop with what you have done until now and start all over by following the installation manual and hardware & software requirements.
If you really want to master a PeopleSoft installation, you can follow following course at Oracle University: PeopleSoft PeopleTools Installation & Server Admin. Rel 8.50
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getCourseDesc?dc=D61702GC10&p_org_id=1001&lang=US
Do not forget you are trying to install an ERP system, this is not done by starting an installer and clicking on the Next button three times.

  • FTP logon issues on IIS 7 using Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi, I'm currently experiencing issues when trying to log on to an FTP server I created using Windows Server 2008 R2.
The FTP web site has Enabled both Anonymous and Basic Authentication.
On the Authotization Rules it has enabled Allow All Users and Anonymous Users with read permissions, and the local administrator with read and write.
Whenever I try to log on, either via IE or Command prompt, when asked for credentials, I get logon failures, either with anonymous or a username that has access permissions to the FTP root folder.
I tried changing the FTP application pool identity to Network Service, but still get the same error. I also have tried testing the connection from the basic settings section of the FTP Site, and when I test it using Application User (use pass-through authentication)
I get an error that says: ¨IIS Manager cannot verify whether the builtin account has access¨If I instead use a username and password, the test passes ok, however using this account to try to enter the FTP site I get logon failure, even when the account
I´m using is a local admin account.
The Server is part of an AD Domain.
I have read a few blogs and forums about problems with FTP validation but nothing related exactly to my issue.
    Any ideas are deeply appreciated.
    thanks
    Eduardo Rojas

Hi, I would tend to ask on IIS forum (iis.net), as you might get more attention and help there.
For your issue, I would tend to think that you need to set the correct security on the FTP's home folder, but again it's only an advice, as I'am not an IIS's guru.

  • How to merge partitions in Windows Server 2008 quickly and effectively?

How to merge partitions in Windows Server 2008 quickly and effectively?

    Hi,
In Windows systems we can only extend a partition to unallocated space behind it - so if we have 2 consistent partitions, we can only delete the second one and extend the first one.
If the 2 partitions are on 2 different disks, you can also create a spanned volume - you will still need to delete the second partition and convert both disks to dynamic disk to create the spanned volume.

    From AD end
    Create an OU
    Create an Group
    Create an User
    add user to group
    =============================
From LDAP client you should point to Active directory , to be more precise
    LDAP base DN eg: dc=Microsoft , dc=com
search at the specific scope :EG; full search / subtree search
add the user in your application ( user is the one which you have created in AD )
client will connect to LDAP server , binds and then searches under the specified scope

  • How to get clients connected in WMS on windows server 2008 with c# coding

Sorry to bother anyone about this question.
Can anyone knows how to retrieve amount of client connection to Windows Media Server in real time same as WMS does on server console by c# programming ?
I got logfiles of WMS in system32 directory for details but it must be off-line of all connections which will able to get those informations for doing anything, but in this case I want real time client connection
at online when a client connects to WMS that I will get amout of that client also.
I have tried to search Windows Media Service SDK to develop this on my Windows 7 OS,but I did not find that really.
    Can anyone knows this,please ?

    Hi SYaGCi,
Denis is right this is actually documented in the Supported Platforms Documentation:
"Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are new platform support additions in Service Pack 3 which are only available for support on the SP3 full release install of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. The SP3 patch only release of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise does not provide support for these two new platforms."

  • Using Adobe Media Encoder with After Effects and ExtendScript

    Hi,
I'm trying to automate the process of encoding a video using the Adobe Media Encoder. The project I'm working on includes allowing a user to upload a video and having that video then be encoded in different formats. I'm very new to After Effects and ExtendScript, but the two ways I see of doing this are:
    1) Use ExtendScript to fire the Adobe Media Encoder through After Effects, using the 'Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue' function. I'm not sure if this is possible or not.
    2) Bypass After Effects all together and use the 'watch folder' function in Adobe Media Encoder and upload the files directly to that folder.
I'd prefer to go route 1, if that's possible, but I'm not sure it is. I was thinking that I could write a script to work with Adobe Media Encoder to encode a given video, but from what I've read, ExtendScript isn't currently supported by Adobe Media Encoder? This is true? What would be the best way to go about accomplishing this?
    Thanks.

I think you will have a much easier time just using option 2. I have to ask, why do you want the files to go through After Effects anyway? If you are just taking a file and converting it to ## different formats...the watch folder setup in AME would be super easy to setup.
All you need to do is ensure the user submitted files end up in a certain directory -- make that folder your watch folder and create a second folder within that one called 'encoded' or something along those lines. That way as long as AME is online and watch folders are active....you won't have to do a thing.

  • Is there any way to use Adobe Extension Builder with After Effects?

I have been using Script UI and Javascript within the ExtendScript Toolkit to build panels for After Effects CC, but I like the way the Adobe Extension Builder works with Eclipse, and the power of including external libraries like JQuery. Is there any route to build extensions for After Effects with this or some similar solution?

    Hi Hallgrimur,
I was checking the documentation for CC14 Extension SDK and found that the HTML5 extension development is available now for After Effects too. I could not find any update of Extension Builder though which would support the After Effects extension development. While searching I came across this thread, so was wondering if you might have any update on how to go about with the HTML5 extension development for After Effects. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Virtual Machine( VM WARE) using Windows Server 2008 R2- how to install a software from host to guest.

    Dear All,
Can you Please tell how to install a software SQL Server 2012 from the Host to my Guest OS Windows Server 2008R2 in my Virtual Machine? I am using VMPlayer and have already created a VM using the Windows Server 2008R2.
I just need help in installing another software (SQLServer2012) from my laptop(guest computer) to my host VM. I also have the files downloaded into my C drive of my laptop(hostcomputer) for the SQL Server 2012. But I am lost as to where to click to install

  • Bit Locker Implementation in Windows 8.1 machine using Windows server 2008 r2 server group policy.

is it possible to enable the bit locker only for windows 8.1 machines through windows 2008 r2 server group policy ?
    Thanx and Regards,
    Shanif

    Hi Shanif,
    Yes, we can do this.
Regarding how to enable Bitlocker via group policy, the following article can be referred to as reference.
Cannot Save Recovery Information for Bitlocker in Windows 7
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/02/16/cannot-save-recovery-information-for-bitlocker-in-windows-7.aspx
After configuring the settings, we can use security filtering or WMI filtering to apply the policy to specific computers.
Regarding this point, the following blog can be referred to for more information.

  • In Windows Server 2008 : Powershell can't import-module ActiveDirectory

    Hi,
Thank you in advance for any possible help.
I am using Windows Server 2008 with a x64 machine and I have Powershell 3.0.
After searching for similar problems, I found that I have to install the patches KB969166, KB968934, KB967574, KB968930.
This was done and as a result, the "Web Service Active Directory" appeared in "services".
However, the "ActiveDirectory Module for Windows Powershell"  is still not visible in "Windows Features" .
What can I do to make it appear ?
Is there a different way to go so I can have "ActiveDirectory" module in the list of modules I can import in Powershell 3.0 ?
Actually, the command "import-module ActiveDirectory" results in a Not Found error.
I would really appreciate your help.
    Thank you !
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
You can't use the Active Directory module on WS2008, it requires WS2008R2 at a minimum.
