Using wired computer to connect wireless to iphone

I have been using a friends wifi. I have DSL at home with a wired desktop. I want to be able to use wifi at home with my own connection but I don't want my desktop to be wireless. I am reading a lot of conclicting stuff online. None of it really answers my questions or gives me ideas. Can I just use just an eithernet card, or usb ethernet thing to use my computer as my connect for the iphone?

All you need to do is buy a wireless router then hook things up in this order
DSL modem > Wireless router > Desktop
And then your iPhone would obviously use the wireless.

  • Can I use my car stereo connected to my iPhone when I have it an Apple watch connected?

Can I use my car stereo connected to my iPhone when I have it an Apple watch connected?
In short, I want my phone to connect to my car audio when I'm driving rather than my Apple watch.

Assuming that the Apple Watch and the car system use different BT profiles, it shouldn't be a problem to have the phone connected to both.

  • I have a MacPro 2008 workstation without Airport or Airport Extreme CArd isntalled. Can I use Airport Express to connect (wireless) to my wireless network? If so, can I then connect my Airport Extreme to my MAcPro by a ethernetcable ?

I have a MacPro 2008 workstation. It has no Airport/Airport card so I have to use an ethernetcable to connect to my modem. As the MAcpro
is in my office in the attic and the wireless modem is in the basement I have a problem. I wonder if it is possible to use Airport Express to connect to the wireless network? Itshould be like this: in my office I connect the MacPro with AE through an ethernet cable. If I can then get AE to connect (wireless...) to my wireless network I should be ablle to connect my MacPro to internet/wireless network. Is this possible???? Any suggestions are very much appriciated. Thank you.

Apple calls this configuration a ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility.

  • I want to use my airport to connect wirelessly to my linksys network

I want to connect my daughters iMac to our wireless network using an airport base. I have a linksys wireless router and answer iMac connected in another room directly via Ethernet cable. How can I get the airport base to pick up network?

The answer depends on what you intend to do with the AirPort: if you are already using the Linksys for your wireless network, why do you want to use another?
An Apple AirPort Base Station can be configured to serve as an additional wireless access point as long as you connect it directly to your existing router, or it can replace the Linksys. The model number of the Linksys will also be helpful.

  • How do I use a wired computer on the wireless network?

I want to hardwire my desktop to my wireless router. I have a wireless adapter and my computers work fine on the wireless network. If I try to plug in the ethernet cable to the router and disable the wireless adapter, it doesn't work. The light lights up on the front of the router saying that the ethernet cable is plugged in and the 1394 network connection is enabled in the "network connections." However, I cannot ping the router when using the ethernet. On the desktop computer, I look in "view workgroup computers" and there are no computers listed there. On the back of the computer, there is a light that lights up when I insert the cable, so I know the computer has detected there is a cable plugged in there.
They way I set up my wireless network is by using XP's tool under network tasks called "set up a wireless network for a home or small office" (which is found in "My Network Places." I don't know how to combine a wireless network with a wired network. Please help me.
I am using WRT54G. We don't have broadband installed yet.

Correct…I would not mess w/ the bios. Do you have an extra cat5 cable long enough to plug into the back of your router to the back of your PC? Hopefully, it was not taken out when the wireless NIC was installed. Do you see a place to plug in the cable on the back of your PC? It looks like a phone connection jack/ modem, only bigger. If not, what kind of machine, OS (Win 2K, Win XP, etc).

  • Use wired ethernet to connect AX to linksys router

there's a wireless linksys router in my apartment (the kind that also has 4 wired ports in the back). the wireless works ok, but my landlord refuses to put a password on it for some bizarre reason. I'd like to run my AX off one of the ethernet ports and set up my own wireless network, just for me. I figure the wired signal from the router will be much more dependable and not subject to everyone in my building who's using our internet to download pron. so should I make any settings changes to the AX in order to use the wired ethernet signal coming from the router? it's a WRT54GS. thanks!

ok this worked, partially. I've got my APX set up in "bridge" mode, which seems to simply pass the dynamically assigned IP address from the Linksys router to the APX and on to my computer. that makes sense. but this is problematic for a few reasons:
-- my baseline intention here was to set up a wireless network that I control completely, that would "hijack" the internet signal from a wired port on the existing Linksys router (over which I have no administrative control) and pass this internet connection to my laptop using my APX (which I absolutely control).
-- however, using Bridge mode, I do not have the ability to control things like port forwarding.
-- when I do a NAT test through Azureus, I get this error: "Testing port 62000 ...
NAT Error - Connect attempt to 69.22.214.163:62000 (your computer) timed out after 20 seconds. This means your port is probably closed."
this tell me that (obviously) the IP address of the Linksys router is simply being passed on to the APX and therefore passed to my computer. that's fine for simply getting on the internet but it's not fine for port forwarding and Azureus.
so, any ideas here? can I still do all this somehow?
    thanks!

  • Can i use new TC to connect wirelessly to home network and plug my tv into the time capsule for internet connectivity?

My new tv needs to plug into an ethernet port for internet connectivity.
I'm hoping it can plug into my TC however my TC is wirelessly connected to my current home network... how can i get this to work?
TC version A1470 (i think, brand new)
    Many thanks.
    Ben

If the TC is connected to a wireless network provided by another Apple router, then the TC extends the network by default, and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the TC.
If the TC is connected to a third party network wirelessly, then it must have been setup to "join" the wireless network. When the TC is set up this way, the TC becomes a wireless hard drive and nothing more. The Ethernet ports are not enabled when the TC "joins" a wireless network.
So, a logical first troubleshooting step would be to confirm "how" the TC is currently set up. To do that.....assuming that you are using a current or recent version of AirPort Utility on your Mac.......
    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the TC icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Check the setting for Network Mode and report on that

  • Can I use wifi bridge to connect wirelessly to Hum...

I am expecting my Humax box next week, with Powerline adapters. Could I safely use an Ethernet to WiFi bridge instead?.
One such device is NETGEAR WNCE2001-100PES Universal Wireless-N to Ethernet Internet Adapter. This can be powered from a USB port. Could I use the USB port on the Humax for this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think they are 200Mbps ones, although I use my own separately purchased 500Mbps ones from Netgear.
I find actual throughput to be about 1/4 of the connection speed visible via my power line adapter management software, depending on QoS setting. You want highest QoS for streaming to Youview.
So adapters that connect at near 500Mbps give about 120Mbps throughput (obviously more than sufficient to transmit my entire Infinity internet bandwidth) and those that connect at 120Mbps give about 30Mbps throughput.
The adapter (actually a 4 port gigabit switch with built in PLT) that feeds my Youview box falls into the latter category, and is in the worst performing location in the house, but that 30Mbps is of high integrity and more than sufficient for all HD streaming
I think the BT adapters have a pass through mains connection, so they don't take up a socket. You just plug whatever is plugged into the socket into the adapter instead. This socket is also normally filtered so use it to protect any AV equipment that might get upset by noise on the mains......

  • Using iweb/MacBook and connecting wirelessly to internet in remote China

Ok this is a long shot.......
I need to be able to update my website www.greatwalltrek.info whilst in remote areas of China using a MacBook whilst I'm fundraising for charity. I have been told that with a CDMA card I will get access from most places that I will be travelling. I realise that this will likely be a slow connection but would it be sufficient to at least update text sections of the webpage (i.e. diary notes)??
I haven't been able to work out who the best providers of CDMA in China are. Anyone with some local/technical knowledge that can help? Also, will a CDMA card work in a MacBook??
I know that I can use a satellite modem but the cost is approximately $7 per MB and 256K streaming is $20 per minute.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Even if you somehow decide this might be feasible (I would not think it so myself), I strongly recommend you have a non-iWeb Plan B that involves minimal bandwidth and time requirements.

I was told at retail store I had to use my computer to share my photos iphone and ipad, I dn't know how to do this. Can anyone help?  Thanx

The language of the two stores (iTunes and the App Store) can't be changed - they will be in the language of the country where your account is based (if they aren't correct then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in).

Syncing to a new computer should give you the opportunity to replace the exisiting contents with the new.

  • I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account and will sync, but delete everything from my phone. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

Iphone will sync with one and only one cpomptuer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.  This is the design of the  iphone.
It will erase the content when you sync.
Why not update from the comptuer with which you normally sync?
