  • Need Help using WRT54GL as Wireless Bridge for Xbox

    Hi.
I need help configuring my WRT54GL as a wireless bridge for my xbox.
I have a Billion BiPAC 7404VGO currently in service as my main router/modem. i.e. I have my ADSL connection and PC connected to this. I also connect to this with a laptop.
I have an original xbox at the other end of the house (cat5 NOT an option).
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the rest of network. I have a WRT54GL I can use for this. I just dont know how to set it up.
The WRT54GL has Firmware Version: v4.30.7 (out of the box).
My Wireless network is using WPA.
I have a VPN setup through to work via the Billion.
The idea is to stream media from my PC to the xbox (media centre).
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Katman

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

  • Wireless Bridge for gaming

I am using an Airport Express to create a wireless network in my home, with WPA/WPA2 encryption.
I would like to buy a wireless bridge so I can connect to the internet on my Playstation 2 and play games.
Does anyone know of a good wireless bridge for this purpose? One that can be used with WPA/WPA2 encryption.

    What is your router brand?
I believe some router can be tweak using its web based interface to dedicated bandwidth for gaming.
Are you using wireless for gaming, maybe if you step up to N protocol, it might help you too. But you have to get wireleen N router and have macbook that capable with wireless N protocol.
If you using wired online gaming, consider one with gigabit port.
    Good Luck

  • Using the Mac as a wireless Bridge for the Xbox 360

Want to use your Mac essentially as a wireless adapter for an Xbox 360 or any console? plug in the ethernet cable between the two devices and follow the setup process!
    Wireless Bridge setup process
    1. Open system Preferences.
    2. Clisk sharing, then the internet tab and select Airport as the “share your connection from” then select the Built-in Ethernet in the list.
    3. Open up the terminal Application and type ifconfig en0 in the window it sohuld display an outcome like this
    ifconfig en0
    en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
    ether 00:16:cb:cc:80:aa
    media: autoselect status: inactive
    supported media: autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> none
    4. This gives you the information of what your computer’s IP address is. On the xbox dashboard in the network setup screen select manual and select the top section which contains the IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address, for the IP address, input the Highlighted section above plus one, so its 192.168.2.1 (this is for standard configurations, again, just add one to the last digit of your IP address.
    5. Open Airport Admin Utility, the select configure on your airport. Then select the Internet tab This will give you your subnet Mask, input accordingly.
    6. For the Gateway address, you are going to put in the value in the blue box. This is because you are using your Computer as a gateway, therefor you need to tap into its connection.
So For the Average setup you will use:
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
    7. Now for the DNS server, this varies according to What internet service you have, but, Airport admin utility provides the answer, right below the information we used above, you will see DNS Server. viola! Put that in as your primary DNS server in the second box of edit options in the network menu.
Now you should be complete, test the connection and you should be Ready to Go!! Happy Gaming!

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.

  • Can I use a WRT54GX2 as wireless bridge for my Blue Ray to an E1000 wireless router?

I recently replaced my WRT54GX2 router with an E1000 for networking in my home.  I now have a Blu-Ray disk player, and thought I may be able to use the old WRT54GX2 to wirelessly bridge a network connection for the Blu-Ray.  I am having trouble fignuring out how to configure it, if possible at all.  Any help would be appreciated

A WRT and a E1000 are wireless routers, i.e. router with an integrated wireless access points. They accept client connections. They don't connect to other access points. They always require a wired connection to your main network.
Running a wire is the best solution anyway, in particular for video streaming and similar.

  • Can't connect to internet on tv using wireless bridge

I configured my linksys wireless bridge to be able to connect to the internet on my TV.  I am wondering if I have some connections or ports or something on my airport router that aren't right.  I've called Direct TV, Linksys, and now, my last hope is that it is something with my airport settings.  HELP Anyone?

Ok, I'm going to see if I can download a copy of the WET160N User Guide. In the mean time, I would like for you to provide me some configuration information on your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) using the AirPort Utility in Manual Setup mode.

  • Wireless bridge for older emac

Hi. I have had my emac for more than four years. He still runs wonderfully, despite some raster shift issues.
I've been reading through the info on the wireless bridge in the discussion boards, and I was wondering if anyone with a computer like mine has tried the Netgear MA111 802.11b Wireless USB Adapter. If so, what has your experience been? I have an ethernet cord, and I would prefer a cheaper solution than tracking down a discontinued apple wireless card if I can.
Thank you so much for your help.

I'm not sure if I should post here or start a new post, but are you trying to connect wireless via your ethernet port and what is "some raster shift issues"? The reason for my asking is that I have tried to connect using a USB/ethernet adapter and it didn't work. I have to sometimes jiggle my ethernet cable to reconnect to my router.

  • AP541's using wireless bridging are falling over.

We've three AP541 on a network.  The first is connected to the internet router, the other two are at either end of the network perimeter connected to the first wirelessly (wireless bridging).  Although it all worked at inception, shortly after clients connected to the two at the perimeter lost connectivity permanently.  although we can get things working by swtiching all off and on again in sequance, it never works for more than a few hours/days before dropping again.
Is anyone else doing wireless bridging and seeing these issues on the AP541?

Hi jollyitsolutions, thank you for using our forum, my name is Luis I am part of the Small business Support community. I read your post and I suggest checking your configuration from the SSID, please try to use low security in order to try if your devices are able to connect, also you can follow this article about WDS, you can check in the link below.

  • Using wireless router for Playstation Portable connection

I've had my PSP for a little while now and I mainly use it for it's internet feature. I've been using my router (with wireless connection) for my laptops for years and so things have been completely fine logging onto the internet with my PSP. I recently downloaded an update for my PSP and the internet connection started to slow down A LOT. Now, I can't connect to the internet at all. I know some people may say to contact Sony about this, but I'm sure Sony's first response would be to contact my router manufacturer. Does anyone know what I can do?
My model number is WRT150 V1.1 and I heard that it may have to do with the MAC address for my PSP but I cannot find ANYWHERE in the setting for my router where I can allow a certain MAC address permission to use the wireless network.
If anyone knows anything, please share. Thank you!

To enable MAC Address Filtering follow the link here , the link will only give you screenshots to find the MAC Address of an Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection and not for a play Station...
If you know the MAC add of your PSPyou can follow the link from where it says "Permitting Wireless PC from Accessing Your Network"

  • Connect to sbRIO via Wi-Fi using wireless bridge

    Hi,
I have a sbRIO and I want to connect with it (program and deploy code) wirelessly using wi-fi of my laptop PC. I went through few links but they all use two wireless bridges. I have only one wireless router to which I want to connect IP camera and sbRIO and over the other side use my laptop's wi-fi to connect with sbRIO.
    Regards.

You should be able to do this by plugging your ethernet devices into your router, then joining the wireless network from your laptop. Just make sure that your router is set up so that the wireless and wired networks are on the same subnet. Once you plug the sbRIO and IP camera in, connect to the wifi from your laptop, then to go the router administration screen (usually you just have to type the IP address of the router in your browser and press enter). From there you should be able to see the devices that are physically connected to your router to ensure they are there.
Have you tried this already? If so what problems are you running into?

  • Using wireless only for printing

How do I get my G5 desktop to use the ethernet wired connection to connect to the internet and use the wireless connection to print to a wireless printer. When I turn off the wireless connection I seem to get much faster internet speeds although I have to remember to turn the wireless back on in order to print. I have a PPC G5, airport extreme N, iMac, and a HP2510 printer that is connected to a airport express.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

If you don't already, change the network service order in System Preferences > Network > Set Service Order to have Ethernet at the top of the list with AirPort just below it.

  • 1300 Wireless Bridge

I have been using two 1310 wireless bridges for about six months now. They have been working very well. However this morning they stoped connecting and one says that the Software status is disabled and the hardware status is down.
in the configuration the Radio is enabled and one is set to root the other to non-rooot. Nothing changed just stopped working. I even tried switching witch is root and Non-Root. The problem stays with the Non-Root.
    Thanks

  • 3502p AccessPoint support MESH and Point-to-Point Wireless Bridging with Outdoor Antennas??

I need to know if 3502p with outdoor antennas supports Point-to-Point Wireless Bridging??

The 3502p is only used for arenas and or stadiums. These are different units than the 3500's and 3600's. So no they can't be.
You can use Cisco Aironet 1400 Series Wireless Bridge for a wireless link between two buildings (1km) to extend your LAN. For more detail you can go through the below link.

    Hi John,
See whether below post helps you, where I have posted a sample configuration for load balance traffic across two wireless bridge links.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4125800#4125800
I doubted you can configure etherchannel across two wireless bridge links. If you configure two independant bridges & pass same vlans then one end switch ports will be get blocked by STP.
