Using Wlan in E71

Hi Guys,
I have recently bought a E71-1 phone. I have a few issues while connecting to my office network.
My office network is a WPA2-Enterprise/EAP-FAST with AES-CCMP encryption.
The EAP-FAST enhancements (CCXv4) has been disabled along with unathenticated provisioning allowed.
The browser needs a proxy to access the internet once the laptop is connected to the network
Having said that, I tried setting up the same on my mobile. I defined an AP with wpa2 and eap-fast only enabled but i could not connect to my network. Could anyone please let me know if you were able to connect to a similar network from your e71 phone? I would really appreciate your thoughts or pointers on this.

my problem is even worst i bought the E71 i thought that the problem was from the phone so went to change i here is the situation i try many times and still the same **bleep** i make a search for wlan found it connect my phone to it put in the web key and automatically the access point is being define i start web browsing and an error message sat unable to connect wlan not found do a search the wlan is still here and this happen to me now on 2 brand new phones
can anyone help?????

Cost of using WLAN on E71

I have an account which allows me to use the internet for a certain amount of time in a month, and more than that costs extra. When my E71 is connected to internet by WLAN, is it seperate from this account, ie, its free, right?

My understanding of your questions is as follows: you have a mobile phone contract which gives you a set number of 'free' minutes/hours each month for accessing the Internet, and also probably a set number of 'free' minutes and texts. Whenever you use more than your 'free' amount you are charge additional money over your normal monthly contract rate.
WLAN, or WiFi, is separate to your monthly mobile contract - i.e. you are not using your mobile provider's mobile/cellular network.
If you connect your phone via a WiFi access point (WLAN or Wireless Local Area Network) then you are NOT using your mobile/cellular access time. This is the same as using your PC on the WLAN.
This assumes that you're on your own WLAN connection or a free WiFi hotspot.
If you're outside and you connect purely via your mobile using 3G (mobile data connection) then you are using your free internet time and anything over your monthly allowance will be chargeable.

How do I connect to applications using WLAN on E71...

Everytime I open an application on my Nokia E71 they automatically connect using "Orange Internet". I cannot find any settings which refer to the access point used by applications.
Is there a way of setting apllications to connect using the local wireless network rather than 3G.

Setup Email Using WLAN Connection - E72

Hi.
Did anyone manage to setup a Gmail or Windows Live Email using WLAN connection?
1 - My internet connection has only the WLan connection. I removed my carrier internet connection.
2 - Using the E-mail option at the menu, I type my gmail user, my password, and then nothing happens.
3 - I tried doing this procedure without the SIM, using Offline mode. And again, nothing happens...
Does Nokia want me to use my Carrier Connection just setup an email account using their interface and software?

Yes for initial setup must use GPRS/3G from your provider. After the inital setup, it may or may not work with WiFi depending on your location.

Unable to disconnect from WLAN for E71

Hi,
I am unable to disconnect from WLAN for E71 and need to switch off and again switch on to disconnect. Is there a way to disconnect from WLAN without switching off the mobile?

on the main screen of ur mobile u can see an option search wlan, when u want disconnect ur wlan click on that then u have a menu through that menu u can disconnect ur connection. or go to menu->control panel->connectivity->assistent wlan-> there u can select ur connected ap and deconnect it.

Invalid server: while using wlan after upgraded to...

After upgraded to the new firmware (520007). While connect using wlan my phone shows that Invalid server and some times not replying. I goggled my problem and found that most are facing the same problem; is there any solution for it? Advance thaks.

Try deleting your wlan settings and key in a new setting after rebooting the phone. It may help...

Configure apps in N97 to use WLAN

I have N97 Mini.. I can use WLAN to browse the web..
I want to know, whether I can configure my "N97 Mini" to use WLAN for any Data usage and not the 3G/GPRS network? I want any application accessing the data network to use WLAN instead of 3G/GPRS.
Let me know how to do it..

In connectivity settings in destinations set your wifi to priority 1 , also in application manager,installed apps , if you tap an application and reject options - suite settings (if it has suite settings ,not all do) you can set a default access point . Also in connectivity you can set phone to ' Always Ask ' before connecting to the internet !

It sounds like you are using an unsupported App like "Jailbreak" which technically voids the warranty on your iPhone. Your call on that.
If so, the app creates an "ad hoc" wireless network which the Airport Express cannot join or participate in. So, you cannot use both the AirPort Express and the "modem" function of your iPhone at the same time.
You should be able to turn the app off and log off the internet, and then setup another separate wireless network to run AirTunes, or AirPlay. But, you'll have to "switch" wireless networks to be able to do this and the network will of course not have access to the Internet.

Cannot connect E71 using Wlan

Hi,
Since I have purchased E71 I have never been able to connect via Wlan. Are there any advance setting to be done.
Wlan get detected on the phone but when I try to browse using the access point it says cannot connect.

Whcih WLAN standard is used (b\a\g\n) ?
What Router is used ?

TV on the E71 (using WLAN)

Hi everyone...
I am looking for a good 'streaming' TV application on the E71.can anyone recommend one ?
I have tried the following :- FreeBeTv but it installed on the E71 then complained of not having an 'sccess point' set up and didn't run, so I had to remove the application !! I think this could be because FreeBeTv needs a GPS connection...
I am running my E71 purely on Wifi so I need a TV application that runs well on a WiFi link..
Can you sugget one please ??

E71 switch off 3G to use WLAN only

Hi
Ive just purchased an E71. I only have a finite amount of download data on my plan (Virgin) and travel overseas a bit. On the iphone apparently 'data roaming' can be switched off, so the phone cant access its 3G network (say to get emails overseas via Virgin in Australia- VERY expensive) but will link to available wireless networks in a cafe, or library.
Can I do this on the E71? Make it download email only via local, wireless networks as opposed to Virgin's 3G network?

Using Proxy on e71

hello
ive managed to connect my e71 to my linksys router @ home.
i use the internet on my laptop wirelessly. the internet connects from my laptop and NOT on the router !
so ive tried using a proxy software (spoon) on my laptop and have tested with another laptop. it runs fine with the setting in IE as
proxy sever : <my ip>
port : 8080
but when i try the same on my e71. i cannot get connected to the internet. i can browse my lan forums hosted from my laptop, from my e71
so the connectivity is alive, but no internet.
ive also filled in the fones ip/subnet/gateway...
any1 having an idea with proxies on fones??

i had the same problem as my router had wifi settings...with username and password authentication.
So here is what u need to do.
1. Choose ur wifi connection in settings-connection-access points if it can be searched through search wlan else u need to go to access points settings and create 1.
2. Define name, bearer, wlan network name which should be exactly same as what it is set in the router, connection is hidden or public as the case maybe, mode is infrastructure mostly for secured networks, security mode i had in the router is wpa so chose that in the phone also. In case you have wep security then connecting is simpler but i am going to go further with wpa only as most users have trouble with this only.
3. Next goto wlan security settings.
4. Choose wlan preshared key.
5. Enter ur preshared wpa key that u have in the router. I entered it in the ascii format.
6. Chose wpa2 mode off.
Now goto one step back and chose options-advance settings.
7. Depending on ur router dhcp settings u may have to enter ipv4 settings but in my case i just left it to automatic. Same for ipv6. Incase u get connection error after setting up, ipv4 is the place to make changes. My suggestion try automatic settings if manual settings dont work.
8. Important to give correct proxy server address and port. U can get this also from the router or simply check connection settings in any connected computer on the network by going to tools in internet explorer. Note port maybe different from 8080 as in my case it was set to 3128. Once this is done exit and run the browser. If u get a connection error try again. If all settings r right , then it will work. And if it has a username and password further to it, a new window will pop up asking for the same. Hope this is helpful.

Another thing, connection using wep should be easier but it depends on the settings in ur router.

Wlan on E71

I have problem with my the sets of my WLAN@ school.
i need 802.1x on wep peap mschsp
I did everything but the 802.1x use only wpa\wpa2, is there any chance i am missing something?

If your wireless Access Point is using WEP then you need to go to the Menu ---> Connectivity --> WLAN Wizard and set the access point up for WEP not WPA/WPA2 otherwise you will not be able to connect.
The information for setting the phone up with WLAN is found on page 109-110 of the E71-1 User Manual.

maybe if we could get a Symbian emulator for windows , we could setup the WLAN connection and then share files from Symbian to Symbian.
but when you share files using bluetooth you are also making a connection Windows->Symbian.
