Using WMP10 to shrink MP3 files for Nano P
I have a new Nano Plus and have decided to copy some music to it shrinking the MP3 and WMA files down to 64KBS WMA to save some space. I have used both Zen Nano Explorer and WMP0 to do this. I noticed something with the WMP0 files--some of them are horribly distorted. I am not a picky listener, but these are so bad I deleted all of them. I re-did them using the shrink function built in to Nano Plus Explorer and the resulting files sound fine. The ones I noticed in WMP0 that were REALLY bad started out as high bitrate VBR MP3 files. I suspect this has something to do with it. THe Creative Software, however, was just as fast and did a MUCH better job. The downside of the Creative software, in this case, is it shrinks a file, puts it on the Nano, then if you lose that file on the Nano for some reason you have to shrink another (taking much longer on the file transfer). WMP0 keeps a copy of your shrunken file for re-use. I upgraded my firmware already on the Nano and it erased everything---this is how I found out I had to re-do the whole thing. Since then, I made a backup folder for the whole Nano and put it on my computer. I am not sure about changing the battery and what might happen (thinking this is flash memory, so it should be fine).
Anyhow, just passing this along as my first really bad experience using WMP0. WMP0 did a fine job of anything that was a high-bitrate WMA file, it was just the MP3 it choked on.
Instead of dragging and dropping the .mp3 files to your iWeb page (and making them into QT movies), you could just make links on your page either graphics or text and the use the Inspector hyperlink tab to attach the .mp3 files for download.

I would like to set up a page on a website made with iWeb to which I can post mp3 files of personal recordings of rehearsals I make with my barbershop quartet. I record the rehearsals using a Sony Minidisc recorder. With Garage Band I create a music project with a "Real Instrument" track and record the rehearsal/song into Garage Band. I then send the project to iTunes, and then convert the file into an mp3 file. I've posted these files to my iWeb-created website and published the site. They show up there as Quicktime files though. Although they can be played, they can't be downloaded by my pc friends so that they can burn them to CD's like other mp3 files, for their own reherasal use. Is there a way I can post these mp3 files so that others can download them?
Thanks..Instead of dragging and dropping the .mp3 files to your iWeb page (and making them into QT movies), you could just make links on your page either graphics or text and the use the Inspector hyperlink tab to attach the .mp3 files for download.

Two problems with MP3 files for interactive PDFs
1. I'm putting in two interview excerpts for an interactive pdf. Last week when I tried to import the first MP3, I got the "cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation" error message. I don't know anything about sound files, so I just tried To MP3 from the App store, which converted my MP3 file to another MP3 file, I guess. The new file worked fine.
I got the second file today and had the same problem. I sent the following urls (http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/how-to-place-an-mp3-file-into-ind esign-cs5-which-was-edited-with-audacity-and-converted-with-switch, http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/no-filter-found-for-requested-ope ration-mp3) I found that seem to describe similar problems to our sound guy at work.He tried lowering the bit rate, but it didn't do any good. So when I got home, I tried To MP3, and it solved the problem again.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
2. Once I had the first sound file in place, I wanted to replace the small gray box that Acrobat puts in. Bob Levine suggested
http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
which worked great, but I needed some way to control the audio. I tried a variation of Steven Werner's suggestions in
http://indesignsecrets.com/hiding-sound-files-in-an-interactive-pdf.php
It was working fine, when I had just a play and pause button, but when I added a resume, the play button just stopped working. I tried all sorts of variations, getting rid of the double actions in the buttons, starting new files, new buttons, but the play button just didn't work. In my last test, the play button worked, but only after I had pressed resume. So I am completely stumped.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
I'm using InDesign 7.0.4, Mac OSX 10.6.8
ChrisOK, I should have thought more before I answered.
So I see that Media Encounter does import audio files but it only exports video. However, I did a test with making a video file from the MP3, importing that video into InDesign, reducing the video, using the multi-function buttons, and everything worked fine. I got the warning message that the "interactive elements are clipped in ways that PDF files cannot reproduce" but it didn't interfere with playing it back. Still, I feel as if I'm cheating and something is going to come back and haunt me.
The disadvantage is that the video files are larger than the audio.

Making mp3 files for Acrobat 9

Acorbat 9 files. I want to addf my voice with microphone. Windows only make wma files or wav files.
How can I make mp3 files?
TrudieTrudie,
Pehaps the simplest approach would be to obtain a conversion utility.

Converting a wma file (windows media audio) to a Mp3 file for iTunes.
I copied all of my music from my external harddrive that i have had for a long time now onto my MacBook. Some of the files were wma while most were Mp3. is there anyway that i can convert the files on my mac to make them mp3 and playable on my itunes and put on my nano. I have tried many times to add the songs to my library and then convert them, but they don't appear in my library but they still play when i use quicktime.
The files play in Quicktime likely because you have the Flip4Mac plugin installed. As for iTunes, it doesn't support WMA files, so they won't be imported.
You can try EasyWMA to convert the WMA files to MP3, M4A, or WAV. I have not tried this program, though.
Hope this helps,

Using different computer's mp3 files?
I use a Macbook for live musical performances, which has a completely different iTunes library than does my home computer (iMac). The gig computer is running OSX 10.4 (Tiger). My iPad is synched to my home computer,'
What I want to have happen is that the iPad iTunes library duplicates that in my live performance computer. I know that the OS is not compatible, but assuming I had the mp3 library on disc, is there a way to get those files into iTunes on the iPad?

SQL Agent Job failing - not using credentials in the config file for Data source
Hi
We have an SSIS pkg, that is secheduled as SQL Agent job using proxy account. The pkg contanins data source for connecting different SQL servers and the proxy account do not have access to the external DBs. The data source credentials are stored in the Config
file.
Why the job is not using the credentials in the config file and try to use the proxy account and failing.
Do the proxy account need access to all the external dbs in the pkg, and then what is the purpose of the config file.
I am sorry, i am not SSIS person trying to understand. If any one can explain tha will be great!!
Thank you!

How to use local variables in control files for loading data
i want to count the number of records which have odd number like...
Data in data.txt
1 a
2 b
3 c
So my count = 2, i will write this to another file.
Plz help me how to achieve thisIf you want to extract some rows from a file and write them to another one, why do you need Oracle? What is your requirement?
Or are you asking out of curiosity how can this be done in Oracle?
You can create an external table for this input file, select the rows you want from it and write them to another file using utl_file.

Using properties from a propery file (for i18n support) in a html:select
<Newbie alert!>
OK, I' d like to be able to put text strings used by my JSP/Struts pages in a properties file so that we can change them for different languages. So I have a file referenced in struts-config.xml as such:
<message-resources parameter="com.myproject.resources.ApplicationResources"/>
This works fine and I can use tags like: <bean:message key="prompt.decision"/> in my JSP files.
I would like to be able to use strings defined in the property file also for a dropdown list like such:
<html:select name="displayForm" property="scoreFinalDecision" >
<html:option value="Approved"><bean:message key="option.approved"/></html:option>
<html:option value="Denied"><bean:message key="option.denied"/></html:option>
etc etc
</html:select>
This works, but I would like the value (i.e. value="Approved") also to be picked up from the
property file, not hard-coded like above.
How can I do that? I know that I could pick up the values from a Collection using html:options,
but I don't understand how that would help me get the values from the property file?
</Newbie>
Many thanks,
Tattersail (who notices that his forum doesn't undertand international characters: )Well you could use an <html:optionsCollection tag
Just fetch the content of your property file in your action and then populate a vector with labelvalubean object (comes with the struts package) org.apache.struts.util.LabelValueBean
labels = new Vector();
//loop here
LabelValueBean label = new LabelValueBean("value","label");
labels.add(label);
//end loop
yourForm.setYourOptionCollection(label);
The in your form you write something like
<html:select name="displayForm" property="scoreFinalDecision" >
<html:optionsCollection property="your property here" />
</html:select>
it will iterate through your vector and display the options -
Using MPEG Streamclip to convert files for EX-1 sequence
I am trying to use MPEG Streamclip to convert mp4 and mpeg files in order to edit them in the same sequence as my EX-1 footage. What settings should I use on MPEG Streamclip that would be most appropriate for seamlessly editing the former MPEG and mp4 files with the EX-1 footage? Any thoughts on what sequence settings I should use? Right now I have it set as "XDCam Ex 1080p24 VBR" but every time I bring in files I have tried to convert using MPEG Streamclip, they need to render and I'm trying to avoid that. Thanks!
Thanks for the help

Converting files created using JVC GYHM 100U to file for iMovie/FC Express
I have a JVC GYHM 100U which creates files only for Final Cut Pro. Is there a way to convert the files to be used in FC Express or iMovie?
FCE does not support natively the HDV format, the one of my Canon HV30 for instance?
Correct. FCE converts HDV to AIC on ingestion. It does not works with HDV natively. FCP does.
That means that on import, FCE do some kind of conversions to the AIC format, right?
Right.
My impression was that the JVC camcorder we're talking about was able to write into the AIC codec
Don't know where you got that impression, but it is incorrect.
...and that that codex was the default FCP codec. Then what is the FCP (or FCS now) default codex or at least the codec that this camera support as the default FCS format.
There is no "default codec" in FCP. FCP works with many formats/codecs natively.

Help with shrinking a file for Adwords
I made a very simple flash banner for a google adwords advertisement. The smallest I can manage to get anything is 57kb and it has to be below 50. I have a small jpeg logo, no sound, no animation and a little text and a little gradient. How do I get this under 50 kbs?
I still was having trouble so I figured I would ask Google again. This is the response I got.-
"I tried to upload these flash files in my account and I was also, able to
replicate the error message. On further checking the flash files, I see
that these files do not have ClickTag.
Please note, all Flash ads should support the clickTAG variable. The
clickTAG is the tracking code assigned by Google to an individual ad. It
allows Google to register where the ad was displayed when it was clicked
and helps advertisers determine the effectiveness of their campaign.
On any click, Flash ads should redirect to the URL specified in the
clickTAG argument; there should be no other redirection in between.
The variable name must be spelled "clickTAG" (upper-case TAG; no space
between click and TAG) and not "click tag," "Click Tag," or any other
form. You can refer to
http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=176108for
more information.
Additionally, the Flash version is too high. All Flash ads must be
published for Flash Player version 4-10.
I suggest that you make these changes and try and upload the flash ads."
Just thought I would post this in case anyone else runs into this problem. TIme to figure out this clicktag thing now.

Question about scratching the HD when carrying the Macbook
I know back in the day with old computers you used to have to halt the hard drive before transporting or moving it so the head doesn't scratch the platter if it's jolted. Is that still a danger with the current laptop HD's, more specifically, the Mac
