Using XP software with a parallel port dongle in windows 7 professional

Please help...  Looking to have my parallel port dongle recognized for my older version software (XP) in Windows 7 under the XP PC mode.  Help in figuring out if LPT1 is set correctly or what I am doing wrong.
Thanks

Hello,
I have W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode installed. I have some older programs installed in XP Mode and they are working properly.
Unfortunately, I have one older program that I currently have working on an older XP Machine and that program requires a Sentinel dongle to be seen on the LPT1 Parallel Port. Since my W7 computer has an LPT1 Header on the mother board, I have purchased and
installed a PCI-Express Parallel Port and I have the ribbon cable connected to the LPT1 Header.
After I enabled the parallel port in the bios, I could see LPT1 in the W7 Device Manager and in the Windows XP Mode Device Manager. However, when I click on
Windows Virtual PC, highlight Windows XP Mode.vmcx and click on Settings, LPT1 does not appear.
I have installed my old program in Windows XP Mode and it starts to run but, when it gets to the point where it must see the Sentinel dongle on the LPT1, the
program does not find the dongle.
I also purchased a Manhattan MHUSB to DB25 Parallel Converter and plugged it in. It said that it found new hardware and installed drivers for it but that didn’t
work either.
I am not married to any particular solution. So, I would use a USB Adapter or LPT1 connected to the mother board but there must be some code editing or changes
in settings to make the dongle work in XP Mode.
Can you tell me how to get W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode to find the Sentinel dongle
on LPT1?
Thank you,
Dan

  • Could you help me to control a DC motor with the parallel port and windows 2000?

I have labview 5.1 and i want to control my application throught the internet

I would recommend upgrading to LabVIEW 7.0 for a couple of reasons. First, LabVIEW 6.1 introduced remote front panels which allows you to control a VI through a web browser. Setting up remote front panels is very simple and that alone is worth the upgrade. As far a using the parallel port you can use VISA to send/receive commands via the parellel port if you are using a motor controller with a parellel interface. If you are talking about using the port on a bit level to control the motor, LabVIEW 7.0 ships which an example of how to do basic digital input output with the parallel port.

  • How to use the software with BSD License, such as substance!

Hi everyone, any idea use the software with BSD License, such as substance?

    Welcome to the forum
First of all let's be quite clear that whatever output you
generate, you do not need RoboHelp loaded on the end users PC.
You don't say whether you are planning to use RH HTML or RH
for Word. The latter has the advantage that you are working with a
tool that you understand but in my book there it ends. You want to
generate HTML topics for an intranet and that is best done using RH
HTML. It's much easier to make the output take on the appearance
    you want.
Your software would open the help you create either at a
default topic or a specific topic. That is controlled by how your
developers call the help. No need to go into detail on that just
yet. There are a couple of topics on my site about that.
The next step depends on how you design things. Are you going
to create a page that describes a particular document that links to
the document or are you going to convert the document to a topic in
    its own right?
    - If you are planning to link to the Word document, then you
need to consider how a Word document would open from an intranet
link. See Snippets on my site. Perhaps another option would be to
    create PDFs of the documents.
    - If you are planning to import the documents and recreate
them as HTML topics, I suggest you have some aspirin handy.
Importing is a notorious problem area as you can see from topics on
my site. That said, those topics explain how to avoid the worst
problems. The fly in the ointment is that you are using Information
Mapping and those indents and tables will give you real fun!
You can create printed documentation but most of your site
will be stuff that you already have in Word format so you need to
include that in your design thinking.
As to books there really isn't that much around. There are
some links on the Useful Links page of my site but I don't think
they will help you much on this one. You could read this forum from
    cover to cover!
Hope that helps a bit. Come back if you have some follow up
    questions.

  • - it doesnt want to drag? Has anyone used this software with imovie?

I am trying to transfer vhs movies to my harddrive using videglide  I have successfully recorded it and saved it onto my desktop but I cant seem to transfer the movie to iphoto for editing - it doesnt want to drag? Has anyone used this software with imovie?

I presume you mean Videoglide - which I had never heard of.
    Having read the specs:
    http://www.echofx.com/videoglide.html
I am wondering how it manages to digitise analogue video from a VCR. For that I use an analogue to digital converter that imports straight into iMovie via firewire.
You should contact the developers of Videoglide for instructions on how to use it.

  • Is it possible to get direct access to parallel port pins under Windows NT? What can I do

to get such an access under NT? I found Write to Parallel Port.vi but I can`t open it. The error that occurs is:
resource not found, error occured while loading the vi, labview load error code 8: could not load vi ressources.
This vi is from 1994. Maybe the source of trouble is that I`m using version 5.1.1 or it is a problem with NT. What do you think?

Parallel Port.vi can only be used in DOS-Systems (like Win9x, WinME ;-). NT does not allow writing to parallel port with low level routines. It is more useful to use the digital port that is on most of the DAQ cards.
Some more informations on parallel ports: http://www.lvr.com/parport.htm
In general it seems to be possible. Somebody told me just to use the write port command with the address of the parallel port. Another way seems to be to tell NT to allow direct port access - but I don't know how.

  • Using USB device with Virtual Com port

I have an actisys IR USB device that creates a virtual serial port. I can read from it using VISA, however it will not write. I have the same setup working on LV 6.1 running windows 2000. I need to make it work on my system running XP and LV 7.1.

    Hello,
Does your Windows 2000/LabVIEW 6.1 system work correctly or do you see the same behavior?  It sounds like there may be something wrong with the termination of the command.  What termination method are you using?  Is your instrument set for that method?  You may also want to try using the NI-488.2 Interactive Control.  A tutorial on how to use it is located here if needed.  This will bypass VISA and LabVIEW.  If this works, you may want to update to the latest version of VISA (if you don't already have it) to see if that fixes the issue.

  • Using 8600 software with older office jet on same network

is it possible to use the Office Jet 8600 printer driver and software system (version 22) with other older office jet printers on the same network, such as a 4500?   My interest is in scanning, fax-printing, and setting up digital fax reception to a network attached storage device, rather than to a wintel pc computer running all the time.

You're going to have to access your routers admin pages and check the DHCP address range.  This is the 'automatic' IP that it hands out to your devices.   IP for your router are typically 192.168.1.2 thru .254.  192.168.1.1 is typically reserved for the router itself.   Set the DHCP range to 192.168.1.100 thru .254.  This now leaves static IP's 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99.   Set the printer to something like 192.168.1.10.
Now change the wireless channel in the router to channel 1.  Save settings.   Now try.

  • Using UDK software with MB pro GeForce GT 330M

    Hi,
Can anyone confirm or offer more information on whether UDK development software is compatible with the Nvidia GeForce GT330M graphics card onboard Macbook pro 15” & 17” models?
I currently run a Macbook (2008) with the older Intel graphics card set up. This machine is not compatible with UDK and displays errors relating to SM3 shader modelers on start up, then fails to launch the editor. I have also seen similar problems for Macbook pro users with i5 models using the Nvidia GT330M.
I was surprised to learn about the same issue on the Macbook pro model, as it boasts compatibility with some of the main gaming titles. There seams to be virtually no information available on this from either UDK or Nvidia, can anyone offer any information?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
i have the exact same issue with an Intel PRO/1000 PT Desktop Adapter. The adapter is correctly configured and answers to local ping request, however not to ping request from another computer in the network.

The Windows 7 is on a new Dell Inspiron desktop. The Windows Vista is on a Dell Studio laptop that I have had for a while. The Hotmail also works fine on the new computer when I use IE9.

  • Old Software with Parallel Dongle or Hardware Key

    Hello,
I'm trying to run old software that uses a HASP/hardware key/dongle on the parallel port.  Any helpful ideas on how to get the software to see it in Virtual PC, XP Mode?
    Much appreciated,

    Hi,
Parallel ports are not supported by XP Mode in Windows 7.

    Hello,
You should probably be a bit more specific in your problem description. Please post your question in the software category that pertains to your application. For instance, if you are using LabVIEW to communicate with your parallel port, you may want to post your question in one of the LabVIEW categories.
    Good luck with your application.

  • Controlling XY stage connected to parallel port using labview

    Hi,
I have a XY stage which I can control using mach3 software. I want to control a signal generator, VNA and the XY stage at the same time. I have programmed SG and VNA using Labview but I am having difficulties controlling XY stage using Labview. I have never controlled an instrument connected through parallel port using labview.
Can anybody give me some ideas to start with? How do I use VISA to control the parallel port? I really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

    Hi srms,
Since your question is related to using VISA, I would try posting your question on the Instrument Control Board. You're likely to have better luck there.

  • Parallel port updating with labview

I have a project to do that I will need to control using the parallel port. The problem is that I will need to use more than one pin at a time. An example is, when I press button 1, data pin1 and data pin3 will send a signal, and when I press button 2, data pin2 and data pin4 will send s signal and data pin1 and 3 will stop.
I tried doing that but stopped at the programming stage.
I have attached the file I've just did, and I would be most grateful if you kindly pointed me on how to configure this problem.
note: am using win2000 and the parallel port is working fine and i've tried controlling things with it, to make the question more obvious, how could i control the 8 pins and update them as i like. i've read some articles
and answers but didn't understand well since am new to labview

    Hi,
find your vi with working parallel port (values should change). You have made a mistake - do not toggle byte/word, the paraport does not support 16bit. In addition I have attached a radio-button selection-vi; this should give an idea, how to select one of xx buttons; maybe the event structure could do the same job for your case. Unfortunately I don't have the time to deliver a complete solution for you....
Hope this helps already. If you have further questions about paraport - mail simply to my .web-address
You will find it by double-clicking on wha@atmel
