Using Xquery predefined functions in User defined functions

I have a requirement of calling a user defined function in osb xquery file.In that function i have to use osb predefined string functions but they are not working it shows error message in xquery file.Can you please suggest how to use them in user defined functions.

Hi Rohit,
In order to create UDFs, you need to have a basic idea about using Core Java. Also, based on the kind of functonality of the code, you will need to know if you require any extra jar files.
To create a UDF, all you need to do is click on LHS icon in the graphical mapping editor. Also, keep in min that the input and otput of a udf is always in strings.
To test your functions, you can either use the test tab present in the mapping editor or you can even use the following editor(blog by Sravya):-

Writing use defrined functions in XI is quite simple. Create a simple UDF, give the import parameters and then just go ahead with the logic coding and then return the output from the UDF.
Just remember that all inputs and outputs to an UDF are always Strings.

Java user-defined function for mapping a complex structure

All,
Hope one of you can help me with this. I have a structure with over 15 fields and would like to concatenate all the fields into one target field and while I do this, I need to ensure that each field is padded with blanks as defined the data type. Can one of tell me if this is possible with a java user-defined function and if so, what type of logic is needed.

(for some reason the exact spaces in between the words disappear in my Preview message)
I have several fields in the input mt and therefore I find graphical mapping using concatenate and my own user defined function padWithSpace too messy.

If your final req is to write all these fields next each other in a file, you can configure this in receiver file adapter by specifying the fixed length for each field.
If you want the padded string as your MM o/p, you can create a simple user defined funtion with 15 fields as input and 15 constants for their lengths, and find out the length of the each string and pad it with required no of spaces.

SQL functions are built into Oracle Database and are available for use in various appropriate SQL statements. Do not >confuse SQL functions with user-defined functions written in PL/SQL.according to first paragraph of this document Sql functions are different from user defined functions . How is that ?
Is they really differ from each other ?

As other post, dynamic SQL is not allowed in user defined functions (UDF), however, you can execute dynamic SQL store procedure with parameter. A user-defined function takes zero or more input parameters and returns either a scalar value or a table. There
is different between user-defined stored procedures and
user-defined function. User-defined functions do not support output parameters.

Error in conditional map using User Defined Function

All,
In my mapping I basically have a user defined function that returns the filename of my inbound file from the adapter-specific message attributes (file adapter). I know this is coded properly because if I simply assign this function to my destination field I can see the filename in the payload XML.
However if I conditionally check that returned value using if,then,else I get an error message stating:
"During the application mapping com/sap/xi/tf/_MaterialData2ZcustProdMastMulti_ a com.sap.aii.utilxi.misc.api.BaseRuntimeException was thrown: RuntimeException in Message-Mapping transformation"
Essentially in my if I'm checking if the value returned by my user defined function is equal to the constant "SOMECONSTANT" then I'm setting my destination field to some other constant value. Otherwise it's equal to a different constant value.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help. I actually had figured the problem out on my own. Sorry for not updating the thread sooner. What happened was this (as I suspected it wasn't related to my user defined function). For the newbies out there (of which I'm one) the problem was I was comparing strings in the graphical mapping tool using the Boolean "EQUALS" rather than the Text "EQUALSS".

Hi Mike !
You should check your documentation about which java classes you need to reference in the "import" section of your UDF. And also deploy the java classes into the java stack or include them as a imported archive in integration repository...it should be stated in the seeburger documentation.

Error while using user defined function in reports

Hi,
When I use the below user defined function in oracle reports I got the wrong number of arguments error
select test_function(id,a_number,v_date-14,b_number) from dual;
If I remove -14 from the argument it works. But iIneed to subtract 14 days from the date.

you have to give the command like this to_date(v_date,'dd-mon-yyyy')-14
because the v_Date you choose in the parameter form is not having the corrent date format
the format dd-mon-yyyy is the format in which v_date is passed by the user.

Using a User Defined Function as a constraint within a temporary table.

I am trying to create a temp table that uses a UDF in a constraint. I'm getting the following error message
Msg 4121, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.CK_LoseTeamSportExists", or the name is ambiguous.
I've tested the function and it works in other contexts. Any idea? All code below:

Please post DDL, so that people do not have to guess what the keys, constraints, Declarative Referential Integrity, data types, etc. in your schema are. Learn how to follow ISO-11179 data element naming conventions and formatting rules. Temporal data should
use ISO-8601 formats. Code should be in Standard SQL as much as possible and not local dialect.

You do not understand how SQL or any declarative language works!
We do not use UDFs (procedural programming)
We do not use bit flags (assembly language).
We do not use temp tables (mag tape files).
We do not use integer as identifiers (what math do you do on them?)
Your silly “Link_TeamSport” implies a pointer chain; we have no links in SQL. Where is the DDL?
Constraints are always predicates in any declarative language.

We do not use if-then-else control flow in any declarative language. We have CASE expressions that we put where you have a local variable getting an assignment.
I see you also put the comma at the start of the line. We did that with punch cards, so we could re-use them 50 years ago.
In SQL, we would use REFERENCES to assure a team reference exists. We use names for teams because they are entities, not quantities:

Nope. This is two function calls. coalesce(a, b, c, ...) is just syntatic sugar for

But if you use isnull it's a different matter. (But isnull() permits two arguments.)

Multi mapping question using user defined function

I have a message with multiple occuring nodes (i.e. one message with multiple orders (header + detail)) that I need to map to a idoc. I need to filter out of the source based on order type (in header) from creating an idoc.. How do I do it using user defined function + message mappping ?

As you see above, each recordset has order transaction. One Root message can contain multiple of these. So, when I map to the IDOC, I want to filter out any ord_type <> XX.
If I use regular graphical map, it only looks at first recordset and accepts all or rejects all.
I need to use UDF. In the UDF, what comes in as input ? Resultset is output -correct ? Now how do I usse graphical mapping with UDF to generate the correct target info

Error Using imported .JAR in user-defined function

Hi All,
I am trying to use jar files provided to me in user defined function as follows:
DataEncryption temp = new DataEncryption();
String ret = new String();
ret = temp.getEncryptedData(a);
return ret;
All jar files working perfectly in java software, But when i am trying to test the mappings by using above user-defined function.
I am catching the error and put in target field then, I am getting following message in target field:
"An error occured in getEncryptedData method : java.lang.SecurityException: The provider SunJCE may not be signed by a trusted party"
Please help in finding the error.

Check if the XI Server JRE is the same as the client machine on which you have compiled your JAR.
1.4 has had this issue and i remember seeing it in a few forums.The problem should not occure in 1.5

Using User Defined Function is SQL

I did the following test to see how expensive it is to use user defined functions in SQL queries, and found that it is really expensive.
Calling SQRT in SQL costs less than calling a dummy function that just returns
the parameter value; this has to do with context switchings, but how can we have
a decent performance compared to Oracle provided functions?
Any comments are welcome, specially regarding the performance of UDF in sql
and for solutions.

I find that inline SQL is bad for performance but
good to simplify SQL. I keep thinking that it should
be possible somehow to use a function to improve
performance but have never seen that happen.inline SQL is only bad for performance if the database design (table structure, indexes etc.) is poor or the way the SQL is written is poor.
Context switching between SQL and PL/SQL for a User defined function is definitely a way to slow down performance.
Obviously built-in Oracle functions are going to be quicker than User-defined functions because they are written into the SQL and PL/SQL engines and are optimized for the internals of those engines.
There are a few things you can do to improve function
performance, shaving microseconds off execution time.
Consider using the NOCOPY hints for your parameters
to use pointers instead of copying values. NOCOPY
is a hint rather than a directive so it may or may
not work. Optimize any SQL in the called function.
Don't do anything in loops that does not have to be
done inside a loop.Well, yes, but it's even better to keep all processing in SQL where possible and only resort to PL/SQL when absolutely necessary.
The on-line documentation has suggested that using a
DETERMINISTIC function can improve performance but I
have not been able to demonstrate this and there are
notes in Metalink suggesting that this does not
happen. My experience is that DETERMINISTIC
functions always get executed. There's supposed to
be a feature in 11g that acually caches function
return values.Deterministic functions will work well if used in conjunction with a function based index. That can improve access times when querying data on the function results.
You can use DBMS_PROFILER to get run-time statistics
for each line of your function as it is executed to
help tune it.Or code it as SQL. ;)

How to Use Sequence Object Inside User-defined Function In SQL Server

I'm trying to call sequence object inside SQL Server user-defined function. I used
Next Value for dbo.mySequence to call the next value for my sequence created. But I'm getting an error like below.
"NEXT VALUE FOR function is not allowed in check constraints, default objects, computed columns, views, user-defined functions, user-defined aggregates, user-defined table types, sub-queries, common table expressions, or derived tables."
Is there any standard way to call sequence inside a function?

VALUE FOR function cannot be used for User Defined function. It's one of the limitation.
