Using Z10 or Z30 with PlayBook

I have been using the Storm 2 in conjunction with the PlayBook since it was released and it has been a very useful combination, especially for email since the keyboard and screen are actually big enough to make it a productive tool and the intelligent typing predictor makes it as quick or even quicker than typing on a PC.  My question is will migrating to the Z10 or Z30 still interact appropriately with the PlayBook, since I understand it's operating system is still based on an older version?
Thanks to all who replied to my original question comparing Z10 and Z30.  Unfortunately, I am unable to thank you on that thread for some reason, since I may not have yet understood how to utilize this forum correctly; the interface doesn't permit me to "like" or "reply" for some reason.

You will lose a ton of functionality with the Bridge feature with BB10, unfortunately....I too utilized Bridge with my 9550, 9850, and now my Z10. I know you can access files like documents and pictures from BB10 phones and view them on the PB, but not videos. At least I have not figured out how to do so. One way I do utilize Bridge with BB10 is with the remote control feature. It is available with your Storm, but it seems to work so much better with my Z10. I plug my PB into my TV via the HDMI and control the PB from across the room while viewing on the TV. I don't know if you utilize the Video Store on the PB, but it works great and looks great with this set up...I don't know if you are able to access email accounts anymore since I now just sync them to my PB. At least when I read, delete, or respond on one, it reflects on the other...

Downloaded BBY Bridge on to Z10, won't pair with Playbook.  Phone says I'm paired but Playbook doesn't see it.  OS on Playbook 2.1.0.1753.  Any help?

OK, forgot to reboot Playbook.  I'm paired now, BUT, BBM and Text Messages are the only Bridge options.  Don't have browser, calendar, etc on Bridge.  Any thoughts?
That is normal, if you use the browser on the PlayBook, it will automatically use the Bridge to connect to the Internet when you are on the go, as for the contact andcalendar, well they are already shared through the Calendar and Contact on both device since they both can use the same online source.
The BBM and the texting program where the only program that needed to be shared using the bridge

  • Buy Unlocked Z10 or Z30?

I plan to purchase one or the other, eventually. Direct from BlackBerry, the Z10 is $300 and the Z30 is $500 (although the Z30 doesn't appear to be in stock at the moment). Those are great bargains from my standpoint; although, I assume that those prices stem from poor sales volumes. I'm just not sure which is best for me. I already have a PlayBook - which I'm happy with - so I have some familiarity with Blackberry. My thinking is that since I already have the PlayBook, is the larger screen size of the Z30 going to be worth the extra cash and larger form factor? Here are some factors to consider:
    > I'm not much of a gamer, nor do I stream much audio or video.
    > If I'm at home, I would probably do any internet surfing with the PlayBook.
    > While I'm out, the main activities would be messaging, checking email, brief internet activities like checking an address, making a payment, taking a few pics, etc. And, of course, making rare phone calls.
I know the Z30 has superior battery life, but since I'm unlikely to engage in major battery draining activities, is that really an issue? Is the removeable/replaceable battery of the Z10 much of an advantage? Batteries degrade over time and eventually require replacement. What do you do with a smartphone when a non-replaceable battery no longer holds a sufficient charge?
Have I talked myself into going with the Z10? Are there any other factors that I'm not considering here?

It's very interesting theme and You definitely have to think about it some couple of time. Difference between Z10 and Z30 don't lies at battery replacement ability only.
Z30 is far more "techy". It has USB OTG function; it means You can connect external keyboard and mouse and any kind of another USB device and it is possible to connect multiple devices when USB hub is used. Again, Z30 has Miracast function, it means You can connect large monitor or TV wirelessly.
Both functions above mentioned with appropriate software presents on BBW give you option to make wireless deal with Your PC remotely.
Also Z30 has FM radio which absents on Z10.
For me, they are very cool features but guess what smart I have? Yes, I have Z10.
Main Z10 pros are size and weight, and after I got both devices in my hands all questions gone, because I don't want to have some kind of spade for digging grass beside my house and I'm not teen with extraordinary size pockets to carry 5' device. It's big and that's all. I don't want it.
I forgot to mention: Blackberry's choice to make battery non-removable is clever idea: not battery limits its life but display type: Z30 has AMOLED display, i.e. organic LEDs. Time of their degradation for current technology is somewhere about 3 years

  • Device Switch problem from Z10 to Z30

Device Switch problem from Z10 to Z30
    Hi Dears,
I got my new Z30 and I tried to switch my old Z10 without luck, so I appreciate your help.
Both devices are identical OS Release (10.2.1.2102) version (10.2.1.2141)
I set up my Blackberry ID in the new Z30
I used BB-Link via my PC and everything started fine and smooth, and I followed all instructions step by step.
Until reaching to step (8 of 9 ) in the BB-Link, a popup windows appear in my Z30 saying “RESTORE IN PROGRESS”
But after 5 seconds, BB-Link cancel the restore process !!!
Also, I tried to connect my Z30 to my PC and restore previous Z10 backup directly through BB-Link, but same issue and message “the operation was cancelled”
One more thing, I noticed that, the BBM is empty and showing message “restoring your BBM information” since yesterday.
I wiped my device and try several time but no luck L,
    Please I need your help

Is the new Z30 upgraded with the latest BBM version 10.3?
If not, upgrade that first through App World, then try the Switch Device or restore again.

  • Mirror Z30 to playbook

    Hello,
Sorry if this is already posted but I dont use a blackberry for personal everyday stuff, its more of a work phone.  Anyway what I have is a Z30 with a personal and work side. I want to use a webpage that can be accessed on the work side only, but i would like to to find out if there is a way to "mirror" the z30 screen to a playbook, or if I connect a playbook to the z30 via bluetooth or hotspot will it allow me access to the website because the phone is registered to the work. I can get my hands on playbook just dont want to spend the money if it wont work.
    Thanks
    Tins

I believe you are going to need talk to your IT people. First question is whether Bridge is blocked by policy, and if it is would they enable it in your case. I remember (I think) reading at some point about RIM (now BlackBerry) releasing IT policies for the PlayBook, but your IT people will be who you need to talk to.

  • Using a stylus on the PlayBook

    Hi
I have a PlayBook with a screen protector that I purchased from Amazon.  I recently watched someone using "penultimate", a note taking app, on the iPad (no screen protector).  It looked so simple.
I figured I just had to have a note taking app, so I downloaded Scroodle from App World and took my PlayBook to the store to try out a few stylii.  I was hugely disappointed with the performance of all of them.  I had to apply so much pressure that any attempt to use the app on my PlayBook, for note taking, would be unworkable.
The same stylii worked perfectly on the store's (unprotected) iPad.  Absolutely no pressure was necessary at all.
    Questions:
    a)  Is it the screen protector on my PlayBook that is causing the problem?
    b)  If so, is a screen protector really necessary?
    c)  If I remove the screen protector, will the stylii work without having to apply any pressure at all (just like on the iPad)?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the feedback.
... but I'm getting confused.  I guess the bottom line is whether removing the screen protector on the PlayBook will give the same experience with a stylus as that enjoyed by iPad users.  Some say yes and some say no.  It can't be both.
If not, is it the PlayBook at fault (hardware) or the software that is not interpreting the "touch" appropriately?  If the latter it would be nice to know whether RIM has any plans to addres the issue.
For that matter, seeing as this is a Blackberry Support Forum, wouldn't it be nice if the people at RIM occassionally scanned the forum and provided some clarity on the issues that are raised here - particularly where the discussion is not one of preferences?  In this case, there should be a definitive answer, yes or no.

  • Z10 to z30 restore was cancelled

    Hi All
I received my Z30 today as an upgrade for a Z10 and im struggling with the transfer of all my texts, emails etc to the new phone.
I beleive I am doing it correctly so far but in BB link it comes to step 8 when the device is restarted and when it reboots I keep getting an error message along the lines of 'Restore was cancelled due to disconnection'
Following other posts suggesting I put both devices in airplane mode and trying again I still get the same problem
Really hope someone can help me ourt with this!
    Many thanks in advance
    Lee

Okay. That's new information. If you backed up the Z10 when it had the newer OS, then you won't be able to restore to the Z30 with older OS version.
Upgrades are generally controlled by the carrier. For GSM models that is the carrier's SIM installed in the device. If your carrier has not pushed out an OS upgrade for the Z30, you have some tricks and some unofficial techniques available. For OTA and Link, you can try with SIM removed, or try with a SIM for a carrier that has released the upgrade. Or look at Sachesi and autoloaders (search) and read the directions carefully.

  • How can I retrieve my calendar info that was sucked from my iPad 2 after upgrading to OS V and backing up to iCloud (using Windows XP computer with Outlook)?

How can I retrieve my calendar info that was sucked from my iPad 2 after upgrading to OS V and backing up to iCloud (using Windows XP computer with Outlook)?

I think (and I'll double check) only the BBLink events will sync on a wired USB sync. I'm fairly certain of that.
You'll need to use your calendar syncing via an EAS email account (outlook.com, for instance, is free) to sync wirelessly. It works great. I use it and was a former tied to the USB sync guy as well... and I thought I was gonna die a painful death without it. I found more freedom this way.
This explains the process. But I don't think you'll get BBM Groups to sync.

  • How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse?

How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse - is it an update to load, a stand alone, how does it interface with Muse? I've updated to CC but have no info on this.

    Hello,
Is there a reason why you want to use Edge Web Fonts with Adobe Muse?
Assuming you wish to improve typography of your web pages, you should know that Muse is fully integrated with Typekit. This allows you to access and apply over 500 web fonts from within Muse. Here's how you do it:
Select a text component within Muse, and click the Text drop-down.
Select Add Web Fonts option, to pop-open the Add Web Fonts dialog.
Browse and apply fonts per your design needs.
Muse also allows you to create paragraph styles that you can save and apply to chunks of text, a la InDesign. Watch this video for more information: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/using-typekit-with-adobe-muse/
Also take a look at these help files to see if they help you:
