Usnig dv with hdv compression in the kona card

hi, i try capture minidv (sony dsr11) by the firewire in my HDV project.
i´m configure de settings using hdv1080i60 and the space go to space!!! 200 gb give me only 35min!!! whats wrong???? help me, i want mixing dv captured in 1080i without renders!!!!!
g5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You cannot capture DV as 1080i using the DSR-11 thru firewire. You'd need an HD capture card and a deck with SDI inputs or component outputs and RS-422 deck control. Then you can capture it as another codec. I see that you mention the Kona card in your Subject line, but don't mention it at all in your workflow. I am not sure you can capture from the DSR-11 using the Kona. Hmmm...maybe if you use firewire as deck control, but capture with the S-video or composite outs. But...then again...what Kona? Kona 2 and 3 are SDI only. Kona LH has what you need.
But capture DV as HDV? Even with a capture card...don't know if it is possible. AFAIK, no one has ever tried.

  • Help with multiple monitors and a Kona card

I am trying to get a multi window setup but after I added the Kona card my browser keeps defaulting to the video monitor. I can access it with a mouse but is very inconvenient. How do I get FCP to ignore that monitor which is being driven by the Kona card??
    Thanks
    John

I think I have it worked out. I put the Kona card in "input passthrough" mode and all seems to work just fine. I had it in MacIntosh desktop and that was causing my problem
If any other suggestions I am sure open to them.

The SIM card In my iPhone 5 has been giving me occasional messages that there has been a SIM Failure, there is NO SIM, or that there is an INVALID SIM.  Until today, I was able to restart it with no problem and the SIM card would start up.  This afternoon the NO SIM message came up and I cannot fix it. What is my next step?  I am traveling in Canada now and it is not convenient to come back to the States just to get a SIM card.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.  How can I initiate Verizon sending me a new SIM card?  I will be here  long enough to receive it if they can send it to me.
I have been trying to call Verizon Wireless, but they won’t take my call from my Skype account and I don’t have my phone.
    Thanks again,

  • Problem with storing pictures to the Media Card

I set my 8330 to store pictures to the media card.  It works for a while and then the device reverts to storing it on the device memory.  It does this without asking or telling me that it's done so.  It's very frustrating.  Anybody have any idea why it would do this?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
That's a very odd situation. Can you tell us, when this happens, does your BB "see" the media card at all? For instance, if when you notice this, can you do Media > Explore and get to the media card still?
Another thing to check is your device OS version -- perhaps there is an update from your carrier that has fixes that would be useful...you can check your carrier via this portal:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
If your device OS is current, then you might want to try a different media card...perhaps there is something amiss with the one you have.
Also, how to do you go about recovering and getting it to again store on the media card?
    Thanks!

  • How can I tell if my problem is with iPhoto or if the SD card ?

I'm trying to import photos from an SD card, and when I attach my camera (or insert the SD card - I've tried both ways),  iPhoto shows me thumbnails of the pictures, and tells me they are already imported.  But when I disconnect my camera, the photos aren't in iPhoto.  If I click on "Import Photos" nothing happens, although I get a message telling me to wait until the photos have finished importing, if I try to close iPhoto.
Is there a way to tell if my problem is with iPhoto, my iMac, or the SD card?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • How can I use itunes store credit with Apple TV without the credit card code?

I would like to allow guests in my home to use the credit in my iTunes account to purchase movies and TV shows on the Apple TV in my guest room.
Unfortunately, it seems that in order to make a purchase they will need my credit card security code.  If they have this, then they could purchase an arbitrary number of movies, but I would like to limit purchases to the credit in the account.
Is there any solution here?  How can I give my guests an Apple TV "allowance" (not a monthly allowance, a one-time allowance) and not give them my credit card security code?

You can't really do this with an already existing AppleID from what I know. Now, if you don't have an AppleID, here's the run-down of how to do it:

  • Will opening a file with Sony Vegas make the SD card unreadable in FCP?

We record events on campus with a Panasonic AG-HMC40P. Our office uses Final Cut Pro to edit the files, however one of our staff used his copy of Sony Vegas to edit an event he recorded. Now the card is not readable through FCP. Did using another editing suite cause the problem?

Only if Sony Vegas "writes" to the card, which is a huge problem and shouldn't happen.

  • Are you happy with HDV's quality?

nevermind the rendering issues and such......but I am wondering if you guys think Sony, JVC, and the rest of the boys did a good job with this new format. do you think HDV should look clearer or sharper? Have more color? I know tapes limit this, but like I said.....I'm just askin.
    Many thanks,
    Brian

Depends on what you're using it for...
It is higher resolution, so it does look clearer and sharper than DV.
It uses 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, so it doesn't have any "more color" since the information in the chrominance channels is reduced to about a quarter of the info in the luminance channel, much like the 4:1:1 subsampling of DV (except in 2x2 blocks instead of 4x1).
This leads to the similar problems as SD DV footage has when you try to pull a key or do secondary color corrections - you get juddery keys and artifacts. Even when I've tried work-arounds as suggested in the Apple Pro Training Series book "Encyclopedia of Visual Effects", such as changing the color space and blurring the chrominance channels, I still get judders and artifacts when I burn my projects to HD-DVD. However, I've found that when I downconvert to SD these artifacts are barely noticeable. That's not too comforting though, I'd rather not have to downconvert to SD to watch my HD projects... kind of defeats the purpose of shooting in HD.
However, I've done a few commercials with a Canon XL H1 and just edited the HDV (from tape) natively in FCP 6 with no major issues, but since the XL H1 has HD-SDI out I'm looking into getting a Kona card in the near future so that I'll be able to capture with less compression on the chrominance channels. And hopefully this will lead to better keys and color correction options.
So, I would say that if you're just doing straight shooting - say, a documentary or a basic commercial shoot or a video without a lot of green screen and whatnot, HDV isn't bad for the price. And if you've got the money to invest in the additional equipment and/or software needed to get the most out of HDV footage (to help you cope with and work around its limitations), then it's definitely worth working with. It's caused me quite a few headaches so far, but I think I still prefer it to DV overall.

I can't help you but here's an exercise for you. When you get an exception you can't explain yourself, try posting it in Google. With a catch: remove anything from the error message that is specific to you like a classname or a specific value.
In this case there is nothing specific in the error message so try a search for "javax.imageio.IIOException: Metadata components != number of destination bands". One thing is for sure: you're not the first to run into this error.

  • Saving TIFF with LZW compression results in larger file size.

I know this never used to be the case with previous versions of Photoshop, but since I upgraded to CS5.1, when I save files with LZW compression checked, the resultant file size is higher than if I uncheck the box.
For example one file with LZW compression is 56.3MB, and without it is 47.8mb
Is it just me, or have Adobe got their code mixed up?
Edit: This appears to only affect 16-bit images, with 8-bit images, LZW works as expected.
Message was edited by: Toundy. Added info about 16-bit images.

  • IDVD behaving strangely with HDV video from FCP X and FCP 7?

AVCHD exported from FCP X as ProRes 422 works perfectly in iDVD producing a 16:9 DVD.
HDV doesn't, even though QT Player plays it perfectly.
The odd thing is that 4 years ago, using legacy FCP my exported HDV videos had no problems being recognised as 16:9 by iDVD.
So why are FCP X produced HDV videos not recognised as 16:9?
P.S.  I know that iDVD never recognised DV in the 16:9 format but it always worked with HDV.
Incidentally, the old trick of opening it in QT Pro and changing the frame size to 1024 x 576 does not work!
Even stranger, I have just opened the HDV clips in FCP 7 and exported them as a QuickTime Movie.
iDVD plays them back in the correct aspect ratio but look at the effect  .  .  .  .  muted colours and green patterns all over.
This never happened in the past!

I mentioned several problems so I don't know which one you are referring to.
After experimenting I found some workarounds.
To cure the squashed image I created a ProRes 422 preset in Compressor 4 with a frame size of 1920 x 1080 and exported from FCP X using Compressor Presets.
Everything now works perfectly except the encoding seems to take  longer.
I got rid of the moire pattern when using FCP 7 by exporting as ProRes 422 1920 x 1080.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Quote from: KrisWood on 12-June-12, 00:27:34
Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • Captured QT on Kona Card. New Mac Pro Computer will not play the clip.

    Hello everyone.
I bought the new Mac Pro 2.26 & transferred my films to it.
I no longer have the Kona Card that I captured my footage on.
The old G5 would play them without the card.
This clip just plays Black, but the size of it, 5 gigs shows.
Error message: Does not support Codec?
How do I change this file into a different codec?
    Regards
    Bonnie

    Hello Shane
I upgraded to FCP 7 when I bought the New Intel.
(I did not want to upgrade because of this very reason, but I could not render or export my timeline on the old G5. The HD files were too much for the little G5.)
The Kona Capture was at 10 bit RGB.
The bizarre thing is, is that all of the other clips that were captured, play.
I thought maybe the file was corrupt, so I opened my back up external drive, & it is doing the same thing.
This is why everyone tells you not to upgrade when you are in the middle of a project!
If I have to, I will rent a desktop w/a Kona Card.
    Thank you for your help
    Regards
    Bonnie
