The crash occurs each seconde - i have check the disk with the install DVD without success.
I don't really understand why since 2 days locationd crashes !
Must i re-install the system ?
Suggestions are welcome

Here's an experiment to try...
Open the Security preference panel and unlock it with your admin password (click lock in lower left corner).  Then click the Disable Location Services to disable it if it is not set.  Is locationd still crashing?
If it was already set reverse the experiment, i.e., check it and see if locationd is still crashing.
As I said this is just an experiment to see if this setting has any affect on the crashing locationd daemon.
Another experiment would be to see what happens if you boot in safe mode.

  • Freezing, crashing, and graphics errors (+lots of /usr/libexec/hidd errors)

    This has happened *multiple times* on two Multitouch MacBook Pros (Feb 2008, 2.4 GHz, 200 GB harddrive, 2 GB RAM, 256 MB VRAM):
    Occasionally, for no apparent reason, the computer will get into a cycle where the mouse freezes for about 20 seconds, then control comes back for about 10 seconds, then the mouse freezes for 20, repeatedly until the computer crashes.
    This usually is accompanied with graphics glitches and artifacts. The latest time I managed to get a screenshot (the computer was resuming from sleep when it happened). This is the worst glitching I have seen so far: http://img504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errorcx1.jpg (I blacked out the contact list)
    It doesn't seem to be from overheating or pushing the graphics card (my MBP has played games with no problems). I've also managed to kill WindowServer, but the problem just comes back once the WindowServer restarts.
    Console prints this error hundreds of times:
    5/28/08 8:47:12 AM /usr/libexec/hidd[50] IOHIDEventQueueEnqueue: Error enqueuing memory. (0xe00002e8)
    Parallels used to frequently cause this, but I've since removed Parallels (and switched to VMWare), gotten a replacement MBP (for an unrelated issue), and have reinstalled Leopard.
    (I've also had the vertical LCD backlight issue a few times on both MBPs - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1423301&tstart=0)

    Hi guys,
    sadly, I have to report I got same problems. It definitely started back with 10.5.2 and I'm quite confident it was related to Graphic Update or VmWare Fusion network traffic. By upgrading to 10.5.3 I haven't seen any more of graphic glitches and artifacts, but problems is still there, and very hard to simulate.
    So far I've seen it only on my MBP (connected using Airport), and not when connected to Ethernet. It seems to be somehow connected to network problems and how VmWare Fusion is handling it. Today, when it crashed, I capture following in my system.log

  • Any restriction on Mac that binaries running from root dirs like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time?

    Hi all,
    Is there any restriction on Mac OS X 10.6/10.7 that binaries running from root directories like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time using dlopen() or NSAddImage()?
    I am trying to run a binary like "sample" from a directory inside /usr/libexec/ which tries to load a dylib like "sample.dylib" which is present in the same directory as "sample".
    It resulted in a segmentation fault with the following error and stack-trace.
    Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.
    Reason: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at address: 0x0000000000003430
    0x0000000000003430 in ?? ()
    Using gdb, I could find out that the program crashed inside dlopen() (the path passed to dlopen() being a simple filename like "sample.dylib").
    The dlopen() at the top of the stack-trace pasted below gets called around 10 times; it does not crash during this 2nd level dlopen() any-time.

    After this 2nd level dlopen() gets called 10-15 times, the stack will unwind from map_images_nolock () till  __dyld_dlopen (). But when it tries to finish all the instructions inside  __dyld_dlopen () and step out of it, the program crashes with the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal.
    Please find below the final stack-traces obtained during debugging when I put breakpoints for AAA() and dlopen() and went on stepping inside till the program crashed.

    To summarise:
    For some reason, a user wants to install a product and its binaries under /usr/libexec/.
    This binary tries to dynamically load a dylib using dlopen("sample.dylib", RTLD_LAZY | RTLD_LOCAL).
    It looks like, the dynamic linker then opens dependent dylibs and runs module initialisers. Then crashes when returning (which sounds like a trashed stack).
    Can anyone please tell me whether there is some OS-imposed restriction or OS bug which can explain this type of behaviour?
    (Note: The crash does not occur if the binary and dylib are installed under a normal user's home directory and run from there.)
    Many thanks,
    Vinay

    The otool output for the binary and dylib are pasted below.

  • I am unable to print PDF's using either Adobe Reader or Safari. In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my Cannon printer that says, "/usr.libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed". In Safari, I can only print the first page of a PDF.

    To try to resolve this problem, I have done the following actions.
    1 - I have run Disk Warrior.
    2 - I have repaired permissions.
    3 - I have deleted all plist that are either Cannon or Adobe.
    4 - I have downloaded and installed the lastest versions of Adobe Reader and the Cannon printer drivers.
    I am still unable to print PDF's.
    In Safari, I can print only the first page. In a multipage PDF, Safari only seems to recognize the first page.
    In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my printer: "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed".
    Any help would be greatly appreicated!

    Quit Safari.
    Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
    ☞ If running OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
    ☞ If running an older version of OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and copy the line below into the text box that opens:
    ~/Library
    Delete the following items from the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    Relaunch Safari and test.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list. Post the messages from the time of the last printing attempt.
    Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Network printing Printer Pauses /usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed

    Morning,
    I wonder if anyone has encountered the following problem?
    NETWORK SET UP
    We have a network of 8 macs & a Fuji Xerox c2255 printer all connected to a gigabit switch.
    The Fuji Xerox has an fixed ip address 192.168.1.122 All devices have fixed ip address.
    PROBLEM
    Only one mac (Mac Pro) can print direct to the Fuji Xerox Printer. This Mac Pro is on 10.5.8. and it is sharing its printer connection with the rest of the studio. Oddily enough, the Appletalk function is turned on. When the appletalk function is turned off on the ethernet port, it can not longer directly print nor share the Fuji Xerox with the rest of the network
    The remainder of the Macs are all on 10.6.4 or 10.6.3. When the printer is first installed on the an iMac client, it can print from text files, offices docs, from safari or firefox with out any problem. But when it attempts to print a pdf file (preview) or Indesign files then it pauses the printer. Within the printer queue, if attempt to restart the printer, the printer pauses. It remains in this state indefinitely. When looking at the CUPS logs via the console, the error is printer-state-message="/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed". This is the message displayed on all the clients that attempt to print directly (via LPD) to the Fuji Xerox. Once this error message is logged, the iMac can no longer print out text files nor word documents.
    The following console log is typically of what all the 10.6.x clients are reporting,

    APPROACHED USED TO DATE
    1. I have reset the Printer subsystem for all clients
    2. I have reinstalled the latest PS drivers for this model of Fuji Xerox c2255. I have been on the phone with Fuji Xerox Technical support, FX DocuPrint C2255 v3017.104PS , and confirmed that this is the latest (and only) availible drivers for 10.5-10.6
    3. I have had the Studio manger arrange to have the Fuji Xerox printer fully serviced and had the firmware updated to latest version.
    4. Via Fuji Xerox Technical support, they advise I use the following settings for LDP printing for FX c2255,
    Latest driver for 10.6 : 3017.104.ps
    Setting to check :
    Queue name : PS
    Enable EtherTalk
    LPD port : from auto to PS
    Software version :
    Controller plus PS role 1.100.21
    5. I have (manually) deleted the all the FujiXerox drivers from /Library/Printers/ then repair permissions, then reinstalled the latest version of the Fuji Xerox driver from 10.6
    WEIRDNESS
    1. With the 10.6.x client, when the drivers are first installed, if I create a simply indesign file, I can print directly to the Fuji Xerox. If I then attempt to print out a previously created indesign document, it will pause the printer and the console (CUPS error_log) will display the above result. If I switch my printer to the Mac Pro 10.5.8 sharing the printer, the same document can print out via the hosted Fuji Xerox.
    2. The Mac Pro 10.5.8 can print all documents directly to the Fuji Xerox regardless of the format of the document. It is also able to share the printer with the dept. This is the sole means of the dept being able to print out artwork.
    3. Prior to the firmware upgrade I have tried an iMac printing/hosting the Fuji Xerox via direct USB cable. The same behaviour as above were experienced.
    4. This model of Fuji Xerox only supports LDP or direct USB connection.
    5. I have tried using the Bonjour address to configure the printer but the results are no better nor no worse. At one stage, all the iMacs were able to print sucessfully for a day but then 'stopped working' (as reported by the studio manager). They then switch back to the Mac Pro hosting the printer to continue working.
    6. I discovered that if the drivers are installed and then a Permission repair carried out (via Disk Utility), it would change all the driver permissions for the files in the /Library/Printers/FujiXerox. When attempting to print (with the revised permissions), the 'print' button would not 'work'; the print dialog would present until Cancel was selected. It was almost like changing the permissions has lock out the functionality of being able to print. Manually moving the FujiXerox to Trash and reinstalling the drivers reverted the printer back to the above behaviour.
    7. I discovered that when installing the printer, using LPD, it is better to allow the default settings. If I stuplated that the Fuji Xerox is a two bin set up, rather then a single bin set up, I can not print out from any application. If, I left settings as default, my assumption is that the apps can mange the printer features.
    I've been working on this for a while now and this is driving me crazy. I would appreciate any suggestions. Has anyone come across this issue before ? Any ideas ?
    Thank you,
    Fred

    Hi Pahu,
    Thanks for your reply. I noticed that you have replied to a number of other postings as well - you're a good sort !! Your knowledge and contribution to this forum is much appreciated and very welcome.
    Yes, this is a curly problem. I've actually been trying to resolve it for several months. Interesting the c2255 is not stated as being supported under Apple's Fuji drivers release for SN. The driver has to be downloaded directly from Fuji Xerox. The following is from the c2255 Config page,

    What is interesting is that this problem occurs with all the 10.6.x macs. There is a Mac Pro that has been upgrade to 10.6; an iMac that has had a complete rebuild with 10.6; two iMacs that have been upgraded from 10.5.x and two new iMacs that came preinstalled with 10.6.2. None of these Macs can direct connect to the Fuji Xerox c2255. Only the 10.5.8 Mac can direct connect to the FX c2255 and can host (or share) the FX c2255 printer to the rest of the network.
    One of the bizarra aspects is that the all the Macs can print text files, offices docs, web pages, etc, etc directly to the Fuji Xerox c2255 without any problem. BUT try to print a pdf file from preview or from Indesign and it resorts back to the status described earlier. Oddily enough, if I create a simple pdf in Indesign (circle, squares, a paragraph of text), I can print out the file using Indesign, directly to the printer. If I import one of the previously created documents, the printer reverts to the status described earlier. HOWEVER, if I take the same document and print via the Mac Pro 10.5.8 hosting/sharing the printer, the document will print without any problem. What the... ??!?!?!
    I thought it might be a firmware problem but following the onsite service of the printer, I think I can rule that out.
    Can you see anything that I might be missing ???
    Thank you,
    Fred

  • Unable to print: /usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed HELP!!!

    Hi Guys,
    I am on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.7.3, and until some time ago I was being able to print on a HP Laserjet P1102w shared over ethernet from a iMac running OS 10.5.8.
    Then something happened (probably as a result of an update) and I can't print on that shared printer any more. The error I get on the printer is that annoying /usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed, OR the "authentication required" message. The printer works just fine on the iMac...
    I tried several fixes posted here and there such as re-setting the printing system and re-adding the printer in both machines, tried to fix it over the CUPS interface, and even tried this guy's approach:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20074767-263/how-to-fix-printers-not-workin g-in-os-x-10.6.8/?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=MacFixIt
    Unfortunately nothing worked.
    I noticed two weird things:
    1) When I try to change the settings in the cups interface at the iMac, it won't let me apply the changes, it's like it is locked...
    2) When I pull out the console at the MacBook, the log for the time the error comes out is:
    kernel: IOSurface buffer allocation size is zero
    Can someone please give me a hint of what's going on? This is nerve wrecking.
    Many thanks!

    I am trying to correct a DNS problem on my Snow leopard server install and was instructed by an Apple engineer to use /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl to globally search and replace on the system to change all instances of the DNS name.
    I checkout the man page for changedirdata and it seems pretty straightforward. However, when I try to run it I get the following error:
    sudo sh /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl -i -s <MY SERVER IP> -u diradmin -o <OLD DNS NAME> -n <NEW DNS NAME>
    /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl: line 3: use: command not found
    /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl: line 4: use: command not found
    /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl: line 5: syntax error near unexpected token `('
    /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl: line 5: `use Net::LDAP::Constant qw( LDAPCONTROLPAGED );'
    Is there something up with Perl here?

    it's a perl file, and should be an executable.
    get rid of the sh
    run it like this
    sudo /usr/libexec/changeDirData.pl -i -s <MY SERVER IP> -u diradmin -o <OLD DNS NAME> -n <NEW DNS NAME>

  • I get the following error when i try to print to a brother hl 5470dw printer  using mac 10.6.8 : /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed

    i get the following error when i try to print to a brother hl 5470dw printer  using mac 10.6.8 : /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed

    This seems to come up sometimes.  Here is a very detailed discussion, but at the end is a configuration file entry that might be simple to fix (or not): /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed | Apple Support Communities

  • /usr/libexec/cups/filter cgpdftoraster failed (Epson Stylus Photo 1400)

    10.5.2 appears to have added support for my printer when it is plugged in to my airport express - before I upgraded it did not work at all, now it works almost perfectly.
    However, when i try to print a book from aperture (Aperture 2.0 Trial), the printer bounces on the dock and the job says that it is working, then an error flashes up and disappears and then the status changes to "stopped".
    I managed to take a screenshot in the second that the error is displayed, and it is as follows:
    "/usr/libexec/cups/filter cgpdftoraster failed"
    I have not tried printing a book when the printer is directly plugged into my laptop yet, as this is the first time that I have ever tried - everything else seems to work perfectly (Printing photos / printing from Lightroom), but not printing this book.
    The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 (A3+), but it does not seem to be a printer problem - as it never tries to send the file to the printer, it breaks before it gets that far.
    Does anyone know why this is happening and have any suggestions about how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    I concur, Aperture 2.0.1 on OS X 10.5.2 was NOT able to print to the Epson Stylus Photo 1400, and resulted in an "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/cgpdftoraster failed" message at the print driver.
    Exporting the image from Aperture to Photoshop, and printing using Photoshop, printed effortlessly; I was even able to use "Super B" paper (13"x19") Sheet-Feeder Borderless with Ultra Premium Photo Paper Semi-Glossy.

  • I cannot print anymore and get the message /usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed", with both imac and my mac book pro

    Today, after printing normally, wanted tp print another page with oki ES3640a3 and epson 7900 too.
    received the message that the printer stopped, and than
    "client-error-not-possible"
    and
    "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed"
    can anyone help, I am a professional photographer and cannot miss the epson 7900.
    I received the messages on my imac OSx 10.5.8
    and my mac book pro OS Lion

  • /usr/libexec/wps

    Does anybody here knows what is /usr/libexec/wps used for???
    I don't know what it is because when I check the Activity Monitor it runs under root.
    Is there a way to disable them?
    Please get back to me ASAP. Thanks.

    Well, those daemons will run if he picks up any wireless signal from anyone, anywhere.
    If he wants to shut them off permanently, the only practical solution is to use the terminal
    to unload the deamon from launchd.
    # Suggested Setting:
    # Turn off AirPort Services using the following commands. Run the last
    # command as the current user.
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/\
    com.apple.airportPrefsUpdater.plist
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/\
    com.apple.AirPort.wps.plist
    launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.airportd.plist
    #via andyBall_uk's post above#
    Of course if he needs his wireless services anywhere, it won't work.
    I think it would be better just to turn it off in System > Preferences > network
    (if he needs wireless at times).
    If it is properly turned off in System Preferences, then the firewall or little snitch shouldn't
    be bothering it, unless something is out of whack.
    Even if it is running, it is probably sleeping, if wireless is truly turned off. Activity monitor will
    tell if it consuming any significant cpu cycles.
    The terminal command "top" will tell more than activity monitor
    in terminal:
    top -U root
    Its mere presence in activity monitor's list, doesn't necessarily indicate that it is
    doing anything naughty.

    Is this bad?
    No. Ignore it.
    What does this mean?
    That you have the current OS version installed.
    As far as I know, I have not installed any Remote Access software on my Mac.
    It's part of the OS.

  • Runtime.getRuntime().exec("/usr/bin/env") crashes on Solaris

    I am trying to write a Java class to read environment variables on Solaris. I have read a few posts on this forum and it appears that other people have had no trouble in doing this. I have written the following code to execute the unix 'env' command and read in the standard input stream from the output.
    // start
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("/usr/bin/env");
    try {
    process.waitFor();
    if (process.exitValue() != 0) {
    return "Process exited with non-zero status";
    catch (InterruptedException intexc) {
    return "ERROR: "+intexc.getMessage();
    BufferedReader br1 = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));
    // blah, blah, blah, code to parse input from process
    // end
    The problem that I am having is that the class crashes whenever it is run. I have substituted 'env' for a number of other commands and these work ok which makes me suspect that there is some percularity with the 'env' program. Also, the code appears to halt on the 'exec' so it is nothing to do with the reading of input, it is the actual execution of the command that it causing the problem.
    Does anyone have any experience of using 'env' in this way under Solaris or has anyone managed to develop a similar class? Any help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jon.
