UTF-8 Settings

I have a web site www.seaburnemay.ca which is a family tree site. I import the data via a GED file.
With the SAFARI settings on my computer as follows when I import May.ged
1 -Safari Preferences Appearance UTF-8 Text Coding UTF-8 Names with an accent ie Hérald appear good on my machine but bad on my wife's machine (microsoft Explorer)
2 - Safari Appearance Preferences UTF-8 Text Coding Default Names appear bad on both mine and my wife's machine
3 - If I import May.ged from my wife's computer it works fine on mine with Text Coding at default but not if on UTF-8.( on UTF-8 it shows up as

Can anyone tell me what setting I should be using to get All accent names showing correctly. Is there another place I should be looking.

The upload to my domain host went fine and the documents all appear. The only problem is that viewing them via Safari I get with View Text encoding set as default (Preferences are set to UTF8) the following
Collot Dâ€™Ecury, Anna Cornelia
instead of Collot D'Ecury, Anna Cornelia.
If I set the view Text encoding to UTF8 then D'Ecury shows fine on my computer but incorrectly on Explorer.
I would have thought since the Preferences for Safari are set at UTF8 then whether the View Text encoding is set for default or UTF8 you should get the same outcome??

A user is running a web application on Solaris Release 2.6 with UTF-8. After the server was updated to Solaris 8, the application is experiencing problems with webpages containing Korean and Chinese text. The encoding is UTF-8. Has anyone experienced this problem? I checked the packages installed on Solaris 8 and they are consistent with what was installed on Solaris 2.6. Could this possibly be a patch-level problem? Thank you.

It could be a problem with the necessary patche updation. refer the following FTP site for the Solaris pathces.
connect through the FTP cleint to sunsolve.sun.com
/pub/patches directory contains a lot of patches for solaris.
Find and install the corresponding patch require to solve your problem.

Como deixar a codificação padrão "iso-8859-1" ao invés de "utf-8" no navegador?

Quando faço o acesso ao banco do meu cartão de crédito, a primeira pagina deles é codificada com "UTF-8" e também existe o comando "charset=utf-8" no código HTML, após digitar o número do cartão, ele direciona para outra página, porém codificada com "iso-8859-1", mas sem nenhuma codificação no código HTML.
Identifiquei que o navegador usa por padrão o "utf-8" quando não existe codificação no código HTML, então gostaria de modificar esse padrão para "iso-8859-1".
O único lugar que encontrei para essa codificação foi ao pressionar o botão de avançado em "Fontes e cores", porém não funcionou.
A versão do meu navegado é 23.0.1, entretanto desde a versão 18 que encontro esse problema.

How do I supress the encoding of UTF-8 characters in a f:param element

Hello,
I have a keyboard displayed on my page, which won't work properly because of the used german characters.
I have an icon for every button embedded in a link, which adds the selected character to the searchstring.
For example adding an a works like this:
from keyboard.xhtml:

<ui:param name="keyname" value="end"/>This works great as long as the character is a standard one, but on as soon as I have a german umlaut in the string, the umlaut gets encoded/escaped with every single character that i add to the searchstring:
The string makes it's way correctly to the keyboard-template, I can use a h:outputText to show it on the page and it doesn't get escaped.
So, how can I prevent the escaping of my characters in the f:params elements?
I really need to get this to work. so any hint or even solution would be fabulous.

"Encoding" refers to the charset used to convert the Unicode data into bytes. But since you're writing to a String, you aren't converting the data to bytes and therefore UTF-16 is the appropriate encoding. It doesn't make sense to ask for your data to be encoded in UTF-8 when you aren't producing bytes.

What is the best way to import an ANSI as UTF-8 Text file using the import wizard

I'm using SQL Server 2008 and am trying to import a flat txt file that is ANSI as UTF-8 and keep getting error after error on different fields. I'm wondering if there is a series of settings that will give me the best chance of importing this
file. I've inserted a a sample that you can look at.
The row delimiters are SOH and CR LF
Column delimiters are Pipe

For this I think you may be better off creating SSIS package from Business Intelligence Development Studio rather than using Export Import wizard. You need to convert the code page of columns from 1252 to 65001 for saving it to UTF 8 file. In SSIS you
can use a derived column task for that.

Crystal Report 9 - Can't Display UTF-8 Data

Dear Sir,
I am using PHP with Crystal Report 9.2 and has problem displaying UTF-8 data from MSSQL field. It shows weird characters instead. I am very sure the data stored in database is in UTF-8 because when I ouput it into the web browser with encoding as UTF-8, it shows correctly. Currently is using ADODB recordset to pass data into CR. I tried using ODBC to connect directly to database and preview the data - same issue.
Now I wonder whether are there any settings need to be done in CR in order to display unicode correctly? From what I read, CR 9 and above should be able to support unicode.

To be honest, I have no idea if TTX files supported UTF-8... I kinda doubt it. I'd check, but the only person I knwo of that may have a clue is not in until September 28...
Re. ODBC, see if adding the following option to your DSN entry in the odbc.ini file will help:
stmt = SET CHARACTER SET utf8
Also, if I remember right, MS SQL does not install UTF-8 support by default (at least at one time or another it did not...(?).
Oh - one more thing. I've attached a non CR app that I'd like you to use to see what the data it returns looks like. Please give that a try.

Getting an error message in B2B and it says Invalid Delimiter Settings.

Hi,
We are in the process of integrating an outbound data flow using BPEL and B2B.. We have the bpel process deployed in the system which is integrated to the B2B via a partner link.
The payload from the Bpel process is coming into the B2B but the output edi file is not getting generated and we
are getting the error message when we run the Business Message Status reports/ Error Status Reports in B2B.
The correct Trading Partner Agreement is being hit and as well as the correct Business process and Document protocol and document revision are getting attached. It is also identifying the correct values for the Sender and Receiver from the Agreement.
But it is erroring out with the error message as Invalid Delimiter Settings... This is for the outbound edi transaction to the outside trading partner..
Could someone please help us with this issue as soon as possible.

Yes Ramesh,
The error is very implicitly ...you are right but from the setup perspective in b2b we have defined the below mentioned for the operational capability for the Trading Partner who is going to receive this edi document :
Component Element Separator 0x7d
Segment Delimiter 0x0a
Element Delimiter 0x2a
Subelement Delimiter 0x7d
But we are not able to understand why it is throwing invalid delimiter settings. I have provided the b2b.log as well mentioned below..

UTF-8 encoding Funny characters in DB

Dear All,
I am Facing a Critical issue which has been lagging, dragging
from 3 days, still couldn't figure out an issue
I've an XML file which am Getting it from a Server using

and using an XMLPARSE to parse that xml and trying to insert
that xml data into Database, in XML i've these
characters master

encoded like this but when saving to Database
using a coldfusion query, Data is saving as some Funny
Characters (i.e., master

xml encoding is in UTF-8 and i don't know how to convert that
zunk characters to normal characters like ( master's) - single

if your mojibake. chars are from an ms word document, then
they're not utf-8 but a superset of
latin-1.
they are not from MS WORD, i got an XML file which has all
the course and presentation information..structured properly except
those characters.. like

Cannot change font for UTF-8 pages in FF 4.0.1

No matter whether I change Options > Content > Default font, or go to Options > Content > Advanced and set Sans Serif for Other Languages, nothing changes—for instance, on this forum. Everything's still Times New Roman from the looks of it.
The Sans Serif font for Other Languages is set to Arial.
There's no Unicode entry in the list. The Other Languages is the closest I could find.
I have Options > Content > Advanced > Allow pages to choose their own fonts… unchecked.
I made similar changes for Western, and that worked—for pages detected as having ISO-8859-1 encoding.
Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

On a more general note, I think that the font setup in Firefox is so over-complicated. I personally want all my pages in a single font, and I don't care if some weird languages are displayed incorrectly with it. I bet that most people do want the same, even them who speak those weird languages. It's just a matter of picking one font that works for the languages you care about.
Now that might not work perfectly for everybody so there should be an advanced option—an ability to add overrides. It should be similar to how it works now but the list of overrides should be user-customizable and '''empty by default.''' So that we regular people don't bother ourselves with encodings and languages we're never going to use.
I wonder if I'm the only one who's disappointed with FF's font settings. Couldn't find anything on this topic on the 'net.

UTF-8 encoding in XSLT transformation

I have a problem with a transformation of an ABAP structure into XML. I use the XSLT transformation for this.
My XSLT starts like this:

It always encodes to iso-8859-1 which my interface partner cannot read.
Does anyone know a way to force encoding to UTF-8?
Adding a command like <xsl:output encoding="utf-8"/> did not help.

I think I just solved the problem taking a different approach.
In a note here on SDN, a guy from SAP wrote, that the SAP XSLT processor is not able to code anything but the system's default to a string, BUT that it is able to code it to an xstring.
All I did now is add the tag

to my xslt program and change the coding in the program accordingly.
The program code is now:

Setting the HTML Web Reports encoding to UTF-8

Hi,
We have a problem with web reports (Reports6i with 9ias r1) showing some characters wrong(like the pound/yen symbols). The whole system (database and reports server) runs in UTF-8 characterset, but the web reports dont set any "ecoding=UTF-8" tags in the header section of the generated HTML .. so the users browser doesn't display the html correctly (unless he switches the browser from "Western European" to UTF-8 encoding himself).
Any way we can force this? i didn't found any way on setting the UTF-8 tag in the report?!

OK. I think I can answer your question. You can change the Apache settings into UTF8 of your Apache Web Server in which you deploy your reports.

Jabber-config.xml file, settings do not apply

as i have a very simple setup i never used a jabber-config.xml file but as i have some display name issues and i thought it would be good to set some other settings as well i created a file but for some reason the settings do not seem to stick (do not show picture, docked window top right, presence server type

when a user logs in for the first time and then exits jabber and logsin again the contact pictures are now no longer showing so those setttings seems to stick on the 2nd login
but not the docked window setting for instance

How do I change the Version Code in the Flash Android settings Android app market?

I recently tried to update my app in the Android app market and when I uploaded it I got the following message:
"The new apk's versionCode (1000000) already exists."
In the Flash Adnroid settings I changed the version label but that did not help.
So I have two questions:
How do I change the Version code in the Flash Android settings? I changed the version number and version label but that did not work.
What is the difference between the version number and version label?

I tried that but it did not work. Apparently there is a difference between the version code and version number (which is set in the Android settings). From my research the version label is optional, so there are no problems there.
This is the what the XML file says:

I did find this piece of information for Androin version codes. (http://developer.android.com/guide/publishing/versioning.html) But I don't know how to place it into the xml file without conflicting with other code.
