Utilities folder automatically opens during startup

I'm pretty bitter towards Macintosh ever since I took my laptop to the " 'Genius' Bar " and they accidentally erased all of the data on my computer, so I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me with this.
I downloaded Microsoft Office 2008 today. Of course, I had the infamous keygen problem with Safari. I found the solution to that in another post: I went to Macintosh HD>my home directory>Library>Preferences, where I deleted the file "com.apple.keychainaccess.plist" and restarted my computer.
The Safari keygen problem is fixed, but now whenever I turn on my computer, the Utilities folder opens up automatically. How do I fix that so it doesn't keep popping up whenever I turn on my computer?
Thank you!

  • How do I stop Firefox from automatically opening on startup since last update on Macintosh running Tiger?

Firefox automatically starts itself on start-up every time. I don't want it to. If I want it on, I'll click on it. I don't go on the internet every single time I start up my computer and don't like having to WAIT for it to start up so I can quit it. I don't know why it does this - never did before - and it is EXTREMELY annoying! HELP! I'm on a Macintosh operating with Tiger OS.

For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.

  • Junos Pulse Automatically Opens at Startup.

...How can I disable the auto-open and use it as needed from the Dock?
    Early 2009 iMac, Build 13C64, Mavericks 10.9.2

So far, I've found a way to stop it from auto-launching, but it also defeats any pre-existing network specifications. Also, it seems to prevent re-entering the server/authentication for such. If you have the patience, you may want to try playing with the modifiers in the 'launchctl' command. What shuts it off is, in a Terminal shell:
      launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/net.juniper.pulsetray.plist
You'll also want to be able to reverse that with:
      launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/net.juniper.pulsetray.plist
So it seems that the same file, that 'net.juniper.pulsetray.plist', controls what you want to do, stop auto-launch, but also controls what you need, the path to the VPN server. In the GUI, you can find it in:
      Go>Computer>Library/LaunchAgents/
But be careful. When I played with it at the GUI, I cost myself an hour rebuilding Pulse & Java.
I have a feeling that Junos will have to decide to separate Pulse's control over these functions into 2 separate files. But, if anyone succeeds, I'd very much like to hear about it!

  • One local file folder always opens

    DW9 / CS3
In one of local file location, one particular folder always
opens itself even after I have closed it and refreshed the site
    cache.
I have about 25 folders total in this site. The one folder
giving me trouble is titled "banners" and contains only image
files. If that folder is closed and I press Refresh, the folder
    then opens.
If I close the folder "banners" and open any other folder and
then press Refresh, the folder Banners opens.
If I close the folder Banners, close Dreamweaver, delete the
configuration folder, re-open Dreamweaver, the Banners folder
    automatically opens on startup.
This is only happening in this particular local site. This is
not happening in the other other local sites that I have where
certain folders only hold image files.

    Hi
This sounds like you have a corrupted user config folder and DW is not recognizing the file types.
First back up all your site definitions, then uninstall DW, delete your user configuration folder and then reinstall DW and any extensions you may have.
For details on locating your user config folder see - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494812.

  • Is there a way to have the boot selector automatically load on startup?

The previous version of OS I owned I could set the bootselector to automatically open on startup (without presing the alt key).
I have searched several times for a solution, but have been unable to find one.  Pressing a key to load the menu is FRUSTRATING as this can lead to up to 5 resets as the system keeps loading the wrong OS.
Just one of those things I can't believe people put up with...
    Thanks

Just hold down the 'option' key when you restart. The system won't load any system disk until you choose one.
Otherwise use rEFIt as Daniel says. Works fine on Lion.

It will not show ur previous configuration so u have to import the Development configuration again. In case ur any activity is open, it will come back when u import the Development Configuration.

  • Open in wrong drive and/or getting stuck during startup

    Please help!
My Mac OS X (10.4.11) has two drives: one for normal use and one for backup. For some reason my Mac keeps opening up in the backup drive. I go to System Preferences and click on Startup disk, and tell it to restart in the main drive, and it still opens up in my backup. It will eventually let me over after a dozen tries (give or take a few).
Once in a while it will freeze up during startup, get stuck during loading, or the fan will go into overdrive and I get nothing but a gray screen.

Whew! Sounds like a potential combination of needing to repair the drive(s) and zapping PRAM. What exact model of computer (OSX is the operating system, not the computer model)?
Boot from the installer disk, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. You can verify a drive from DU on your main drive while booted but I have found this can result in incorrect reporting of errors. To repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive anyway.
Next, boot from your drive in [Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393] and repair permissions. You can repair permissions while booted from the installer disc but this uses the permissions configuration on the installer disc which may be out of date if you have run any updates on your computer. Booting your computer to Safe Mode restricts the number of things running on your computer while permissions are being run and does a bit of spring cleaning at the same time.

    [Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751]
From BDaqua (couldn't have said it better):
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."
Once all is clear, you might need to reset PRAM.

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.
