Utility for removing dead links?

There is/was a freeware program AM-Deadlink that would check all links in Favorites for errors; e.g., 404's. However, it doesn't work with Safari. Is there a solution for performing this function for Safari?

here's one, then
http://www.apple.com/deadlink
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_link and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_404
Rich - http://www.url-manager.com/ is supposed to do that, but it's old & needs Rosetta
http://www.sheepsystems.com/products/bkmx/ is more up to date; not free, although free to try for three days.

  • Utility to find & remove dead links?

    Hello.
    I'm looking for a (preferably free) utility to find & remove dead links from my bookmarks. It'd be great it if could clean up my Firefox links as well.
    Anyone know where to get such a tool?
    Cheers,
    ALF

    You're welcome Anthony. I'll post back if I come across something. As I posted, if Bookmarks are the same for your browsers, it's just as easy to clean up a set in Safari, then export the new file to the other browsers. Also, good to make a duplicate copy of the Bookmarks.plist file in your Safari Folder (User Library) before running Prariefire. Just in case of a problem.
    Please mark this thread answered. Also, you have the option of "awarding" up to two "helpful" designations - (to the far right of a person's screen name) to anyone who has helped you with information.
    In instances where your question was satisfactory answered, one "solved" designation is also available.
    Preferred placement for either is next to the post solving or helping you resolve your issue. Makes for easier tracking for those looking for the solution. It also adds to a person's Level Status, which in itself is helpful for others knowing a person's skill level and their ability to assist others with computer questions.

  • What is a good utility for removing unnecessary files and freeing up space on a MB disk?

    Does anyone have a recommendation for a utility to free-up storage on the MBP HDD by listing files that are duplicates, temporary, or that are no longer required by the current configuration?

    Good software, and good suggestion.
    You may find, however, that removing dupiicate and unnecessary files reaches a point of diminishing returns. The average user will reclaim only a few gigs of extra space, at best. '
    Your best strategy will be to aggressively delete or archive space consuming media files; a complementary approach woud be to increase your HD space by either getting a bigger HD, or investing in an extra drive. Prices are very good, and several manufacterers offer reliable devices. I have three, which may also serve as backup devices.

  • Dead links....can't remove them?!?

    I created a site a few months ago with iweb. I then published it. A few months went by and I decided it was time to update it. I removed a couple of old movies using iweb. I then republished the site.
    I just went to visit it (a few weeks later) and those links are still at the top of the page (although they go to the "We're sorry but we can't find the iweb page.......")
    These links are NOT in the iweb site I have created... So why are they on the published site?
    How can I get ride of these "dead" links on the published site??? Thanks..

    Open your iDisk
    Open the 'Web' folder
    Open the 'Sites' folder
    Open the 'iWeb' folder
    Open the folder with the name of the site that is having problems
    You should now have a list of folders and files, many of which will have names matching the names of pages in your site.Look for any files ending in '.html' (apart from 'index.html') that have names of pages that you deleted and delete them.
    When you update your site with a new page, or by deleting a page in iWeb, the navbar should hopefully be fixed. If it's not, then there's something strange going on! If you still have problems, post the address of your site.
    You might want to empty the cache in your browser before you check, to make sure that you're actually looking at the most recent page. To be extra sure, I'd empty the cache, quit, reload, open the site, then reload the site to make absolutely certain that the most recent update is being viewed.

  • DEAD LINKS IN TECHNET FOR OO4O DOWNLOADS

    All links to download OO4O from http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/windows/ole/content.html are dead. For example, clicking on the link to OO4O817315full.exe takes me to the terms page (Oracle Technology Network Development and Distribution License Terms).
    Checking all check check-boxes selecting accept returns me to the download page (Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O) Download). Again, clicking on the link to
    OO4O817315full.exe redirects me to http://otn.oracle.com/content.html. This seems to be true for almost all links on the download page.

    Thanks - we are looking at this issue now.

  • Remove Jump Link coding for TOC

    Good Afternoon ~
    I'm trying to figure out how to remove the coding for the
    Jump Links listed on the Table of Contents and replace that with
    Plain text. Can someone please assist?
    Thanks,
    Shannon Encinas

    Hi, Shannon,
    If this is compiled HTML Help (.chm), and you want to stop
    the TOC entries from being underlined when you hover the mouse
    pointer over them, then you should deselect the option to
    "automatically track selection" in the TOC properties dialog box.
    Have I misunderstood your question?

  • The Printer Utility for my Epson CX 5000 is missing

    I hope there is help for me here.  I have 2 software updates for my Epson CX5000 all-in-one printer listed in the Software update. The Printer Utility file/folder/software is missing.  I have done multiple searches with no success in finding it in my iMac with the newly upgraded OSX Mavericks. It is so difficult to get the software for this printer.  Unable to get it from the Epson site.  Can get only from Mac Software update.  Is there a way to remove the software updates which are the same and start anew?  Updates are dated June 19th.

    I don't recall where I found this info but here is what I did. It is so simple that I wish I had found it several weeks ago. I removed all printers then rebooted.I don't remember if I turned printer off and/or unplugged it from USB on machine or not.  It was on and connected to machine before I  restarted.    Mac OS recognized printer and the utility and what I needed was all there. I really would like the most current Utility for my Printer but I have the basics now so that makes me happy.
    Thank you greg for your help. As I think back I believe I got this info from the Epson site. Here is the link to what I did.

  • Dead links when using Safari.

    I first noticed dead links when trying to read "the Week in iOS Apps," on Macworld. I could go to the second view, but never past the second view. I solved the problem by switching to Firefox. the same thing happened on the Verizon wireless site when I tried to pay my bill.
    Should i make Firefox my primary browser? I have a habit of using Safari. Dead links shouldn't be a problem.

    You can try this. May help.
    Reset Safari.
    Click Safari in the menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
    Uncheck the boxes beside  all items.
    Just check the box beside “Remove all website data”.
    Click "Reset".
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

  • How do I remove dead shortcuts from the finder favorites menu?

    I just bought a new Macbook Pro with Lion OS to replace my old macbook running snow leopard.  To transfer my old data, I use the migration assistant and time machine backup.  For the most part everything went smoothly.  However, now when I open finder, there is a dead shortcut on the favorites menu.  On my old laptop, it linked to a folder on my bootcamp partition, but I don't have a partion on my new computer.  I am unable to move or delete the shortcut from the list.  It's cluttering up my finder sidebar and I would love to get rid of it.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, but I've tried that.  It works for removing other shortcuts, but not for the shortcut to the bootcamp partition.
    It worked after all ?

  • Add/remove view links at runtime !?

    Hi,
    how can i add/remove a view link to an already published RowSet and make the RowSet adapt to the new condition ??? (without loosing it's own linked Details)
    The scenario: I have lot's of details which are linked to the same master. I remove the details from the session (sessionInfo.removeRowSet) when I don't need them to keep the active number of views in the session as small as possible ! When removing the Details from the Session I also have to remove their links to the master (to avoid exceptions). Further I want to establish the links again when the detail is added to the session again !?
    I add links before publishing:
    ViewLinkInfo view_12aLink = new ViewLinkInfo(master, "package1.LinkDef");
    view_12a.addMasterLink(view_12aLink);
    I can remove links after publishing with:
    view_12aLink.removeViewLink(sessionInfo1.getApplicationModule());
    but how to establish the link again ?:
    ApplicationModule appMod = ....;
    ViewObject vo = appMod.findViewObject(view_12a.getQueryInfo().getName());
    view_12aLink.createViewLink(appMod,vo);
    doesn't work !
    if (view_12a.isOpen())
    view_12a.close();
    view_12a.addMasterLink(view_12aLink);
    works !, but all the links where view_12a is master are broken !!!!
    So what to Do ????
    Thanks for every answer !
    null

    Your results are as expected per the imlementation. Basically you've established (two) ViewLinks between two sets of two instances of VOs.
    Now you try and get an accessor to return a set of details. You need to establish a link between that detail set and it's details to use the accessor on the second detail to get the desired results. Basically you've to establish the chaining between appropriate instances of VOs and not just the outer VOs or VO members of your AM.

  • How to delete dead links

    Hello
    I would like to delete dead links in a PDF document. I use Visual C++ to create my code and generate an API plug-in for Acrobat 8. Can you give me a sample code to do it.
    Thanks
    David

    You are going to need to examine the Cos object for each link and see
    whether it meets your requirements of "dead" (which you've really just
    moved to "invalid destination" - when is a destination invalid?)
    The PDF Reference describes the types of PDF actions. There are more
    than you think, and some (JavaScript) virtually defy analysis. In
    broad terms the plug-in would call PDDocGetPage / PDPageRelease for
    each page in turn, then iterate through the Annots objects. There is a
    PDAnnot API, but going to the Cos API is likely to be needed in the
    end.
    Be sure to use an error handler so you never miss PDPageRelease, even
    if there is an error in the PDF: this is very important.

  • Can anyone recommend a free maintenance utility for panther ?

    I have an iBook running OS 10.3.5 Panther. It is not running as well as it used to despite clearing the hard drive of old files. I think it would benefit from some kind of a maintenance script utility that would clean and optimise the system. This is a spare computer that we use mostly for surfing, email and iTunes, my main computer is a newer Macbook. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good 3rd party downloadable utility for Panther, preferably free or shareware, that I could install and run periodically?

    Hi 12frets56!
    "Can anyone tell me what "BSD Subsystem installed" means? .... How would I know if my iBook has this?"
    BSD Subsystem is a Unix tool, and numerous applications require it to function.
    If I find a more technical definition, I'll post it!
    Unless you performed a custom install, and chose to not install it, the BSD subsystem is installed by default when you install Mac OS X.
    EDIT: Here ya go Berkeley Software Ditrubution!
    Navigate to HD > Library > Receipts. If BSD is installed, the file BSD.pkg will be present.
    If it is not installed, repost for further instruction.
    As Texas Mac Man (Tom) posted, insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
    Depending on Mac system usage habits, it is a general recommendation, to keep 10% to as much as 20%, of the Total capacity, available at all times.
    Review the suggestions, in the documents that I have linked to below.
    Authored by Dr Smoke:
    Problems From Insufficient RAM And Free Hard Disk Space
    Freeing Space On Your Mac OS X Startup Disk
    Have you ever run any routine Maintenance procedures, as suggested in the articles linked to below?
    Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System Maintenance, authored by Gulliver
    Maintaining Mac OS X, authored by Dr Smoke
    Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
    As posted, if you turn the Mac off nightly, the Background Maintenance Tasks, are never run.
    The CRON Commands, can be run manually as well, using Terminal.
    I also use MacJanitor when necessary.
    INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CRON MANUAL COMMANDS
    Quit all applications/programs.
    Navigate to HD > Applications > Utilities.
    Double click on Terminal, to open.
    At the prompt, type:
    sudo periodic daily
    Press Return.
    Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
    This will execute the daily script that is sheduled to run every night.
    When completed, repeat this procedure, but change the command to:
    sudo periodic weekly
    This one rebuilds a database or two, and usually takes somewhat longer to complete. It is scheduled to run once a week.
    Repeat again, with command:
    sudo periodic monthly
    Or they can all be run in one pass, which is preferable, with this command:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
    When the tasks complete, and return to the prompt, you may quit Terminal.
    Restart the Mac, and run Repair Permissions.
    TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
    1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
    3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
    Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
    When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
    After you have done some Spring Cleaning, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
