Utilizing the program flip for mac wmv

I have installed flip for mac wmv and everytime I have accessed a program that utilizes windows media player it doesn't go to quicktime. It actually cannot open and keeps sending me to the windows website to download media player for mac, which I have previously posted I cannot open after downloading because my mac informs that I need to choose the application to open it. Thanks for any help.

No Audio with Flip for Mac, MIDI Settings Seem OK

Hello,
I am using Flip for Mac to stream Windows content. On most sites (You Tube etc.) it seems OK. On some however, the video plays fine, but there is no audio.
Since the video streams fine, I assume it is not a DRM issue. The MIDI Audio Input is set at 44100Hz. The MIDI Audio Output window says 'Output is not supported.' I only use the internal speakers and don't have any external ones connected to perhaps the MIDI Output is irrelevant.
But, is this more of a QuickTime7.2 compatability issue? I am only running a lower version of Flip for Mac, none of the 'Pro' upgrades so did not think it would be an issue. Are there any other common settings one should double check?

Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:

In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

Mac's use a Unix based operating system and other controls that make it hostile for viruses to thrive.
However it's possible to carry Windows viruses to other Windows machines by a Mac, also there might be some corruption if your dealing with a lot of Windows files.
So all you really need is a scanner to run when you need it, something like the free ClamXav is good.

Apple includes a anti-trojan/malicious program type anti-malware service built into all latest versions of OS X, it works and updates in the background.
There has been many attempts at trying to "trojan" or trick Mac users into installing rogue software on web pages. If you see soemthing like this, best to just Force Quit the browser by clicking on the Finder and selecting Force Quit from the menu.
A alternative browser like Firefox will offer more protection.
If you run your typical day to day operations on a Mac in what's called "Standard User", with a separate Admin User account, you'll need to update your Apple Menu > Software Update and your Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security > toggle the "Automatically Update Safe Downloads List" check box on/off about once a week.
Standard User provides more security restrictions, but is also designed not to intrude into those who are less capable use of the computer.
Third party plugins for your browser like Flash and Silverlight (used on Netflix) require a once a week check for updates.

Transcribing WMA tapes and Flip for Mac message?

After a recent upgrade to 10.9 I have had a repetitive message overlaid when I transcribe WMA tapes from a DSS player: 'this is a demonstration of Flip for Mac.' It seems to come and go though, this morning it repeated throughout a whole transcription, then when I replayed the tape the message had disappeared, but played over a tape I transcribed yesterday which was message free.
As I recall as part of the installation of the system upgrade I was asked to remove Flip for Mac and the install it again, but that is a bit hazy.
I have spoken with Olympus and upgraded their software for my recordning machine.
Do I need to use Flip for Mac at all and is that a change introduced by Apple in the last system update? It is making the daily job I do of transcribing more than a little frsutrating.

Are these tracks copy-protected (they almost certainly will be if they were purchased from a download store)? If so, then there's no way to play them in Mac OS X.

I have the latest version of flip for mac installed. For the last few months when someone sends a video with email when i click on play button at end of email on the video box I only get audio for the first 30-40 seconds & then the video kicks in. how can i correct this

It's ok to do this even though you are already running 10.6.2 The update includes Safari plug-in reliability.
If that doesn't help try ...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Adobe has photoshop elements for those who don't want photoshop. What about pagemaker for those that don't want to drink the In Design cool aid?
Am I really the only one complaining about the untimely death of pagemaker? I am a dual user- I have PC's and Mac's in my house.

I will be damned if I'm going to switch from Pagemaker to In Design. I've been using pagemaker since 1990. MY GOD THAT'S 20 YEARS!!!! Longer than some of you have been alive. I have a right to claim upgrade fatigue god damn it!!!!!!!!!
I can run pagemaker on a pc. And that's where I go everytime I want to use it. But my main computer is this mac I'm typing on right now.

I just might try out page plus- when I absolutely have to. I might not upgrade to Win 7 if it won't support pagemaker.

Bacause I said so, you may find Bob and Big John's responses to you post a somewhat harsh. I'd call them suscinct and to the point. Nevertheless, they are quite correct. PM is dead. PM will NOT be fixed, upgraded or updated to run on Win Vista, Win 7 or the latest version of Mac OS X. So from that point of view, you HAVE to get over it! Unless of course you continue to run Win 2000 or XP.
Of course, there is always more than one way to skin a cat. One option is to use Win 7's XP mode. I do not have time to go into haow XP Mode works. Suffice to say that you need Win 7 Pro or Ultimate and an Intel or AMD cpu that supports virtualisation. How good is it? Well, I use an acient DOS program. on Win XP mode and it runs perfectly well. In this case I have no choice other than to use a true copy Win XP (which has nver been installed on this PC). XP mode is a perfectly viable alternative to this.
That said, I would NOT run a complex app such as PM on Win XP mode. Not that it would not work, but more from the point of view that XP Mode should be seen as a temporary fix or where an old program has to be used which will NOT gain any upgrades or updates and where NO OTHER alternative program exists, such as my old DOS program.
With PM, there is an upgrade called InDesign. Yes, you may not like this situation, and neither did I a few years ago. However, the writing was on the wall for PM as soon as InDesign was announced in 1999 and launched in 2000. PM was then 'downshifted' into becoming a business publishing platform to compete more with the likes of MS Publisher, hence the more business orientated marketing. As time went on it became clear that the future of Adobe's publishing focus was InDesign, even though I was assured at an Adobe seminar years ago that PM would continue with more InDesign features!
Remember, InDesign was not only a response to the technical challenges og making PM comlient with thae latest Win and Mac OS's, it was also a response to QuarkXpress which had left PM far behind by 1992.
Adobe is not the only answer of course. No one is forcing you to use InDesign. If I were you, I'd strongly consider PagePlus. It runs on Win Vista and 7 and no doubt packs a lot more up to date featutes than PM 7 does right now. It is also updated, upgraded AND supported! Or if you're happy to use what is essentially a drawing program with some DTP options, give CorelDraw a look.

Problems with the new Pages for Mac

I'm starting to see countless problems running the new Pages for Mac (5.0.1) and I can't find a way to resolve them.
1. when I'm typing and want to delete word(s), I'll use the alt+delete function for ease, however this starts deleting words after the cursor, merging words together and changing my sentece. It comes from when I'm deleting as the new pages is giving me the dropdown menu for the autocorrect word.
2. grammar check is off. Namely, it picks a random point in a word and moves on from there. EX: "because of the" will have "use of the" underlined in green and give me recommendations to change to "because of the" or "cause of the". Using those recommendations, I'll end up with something like: "becabecause of the"
3. the find and replace function jumps around in the paper, and sometimes doesn't even display the word currently selected (leaving the user to scroll around looking for what is selected)
4. Autocorrect has vanished for some reason: no autocapitalization, no turning fractions such as 1/2 into a tidy and neat fraction with small numbers for numerators/denominators, etc.
I'm still using it, and these are what I have found, so there may be more later as I continue to use it. If anyone has found ways around these bugs, please let me know.

Pages 5 now uses the system autocorrect, which does not have as many features as the one inside Pages 4. Some things you can add manually there. Others you have to ask Apple to add via
