UTP Cable Length for AP connect to POE Switch

Dear All,
What is the limitiation on the length of UTP Cable for connect AP to POE Switch.
Thanks.
C.K.

I believe it's consistent with the limits for structured cabling: 100 meters end-to-end, assuming the cabling system is compliant with EIA/TIA sandards.
Good Luck

  • Maximum cable lengths for USB / FW / DVI & sVGA?

I've hunted around on the net and can't find any kind of definitive answer regarding maximum cable lengths for USB, Firewire 400/800 and DVI / sVGA monitors. Can anyone shed some light?
I'm about to shift my studio into a new room, and have the oppourtunity to stick my G5 and external drives into a corridor cupboard adjacent to where my studio is - in other words, noise free bliss! But....
...if I map out how far my computer monitors, keyboard and audio interface will be from the cupboard, and take into account the twists and turns involved in neat routing, I'm looking at a distance of about 10 meters. I need to know if any of these devices will be OK with such a long run of cable, and if not, if it's possible to achieve a good result using hubs or repeaters?
So, can anyone help me out with info on:
    an Apogee Ensemble (Firewire 400)
    an Apple keyboard (USB 2.0)
    an LCD flatscreen (DVI)
    and another LCD flatscreen (sVGA)
    Many thanks!

I was just researching the very same thing, though it does not  sound like my studio setup will be as sweet as yours. Here are a few things I ran across:
    FIREWIRE-
"The maximum cable length specified by the IEEE1394 standard is 4.5 meters. However, more recent tests have shown that certain high quality firewire cables can achieve longer lengths without significantly affecting transmission quality. Several manufacturers sell firewire cables longer than 5 meters (some up to 50 meters)."

I found an example of a company who claims to sell a firewire cable of that length:

There is forum discussion on the topic I was reading yesterday:
    http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=804
But don't go past the 11th post or so, they go off on another subject... the use of hubs & the words "active extension" in that post caught my eye. A quick google search came up with this site:
    http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=804
There were a bunch sites with devices claiming to do this.
Finally I have this chart, which seems to support what what the articles say, without of course any other extension technology/solutions:

I'm not making any claims at all about how true these sources are, I just have the same questions and decided to toss what I've been looking at into the discussion. Feel free anyone to jump in and tell me its all wrong - I'd love to hear whats right.

  • Max cable lengths for voice links

    Hello everybody,
I would like to get an info on max. cable lenghts for FXS, ISDN BRI (only p-t-p config) and ISDN PRI connections between PABX and Cisco VoIP gateway, especially that regardig ISDN. I have info from some standard. spec, but want to know the Cisco environment. I didn't find anything useful on CCO..
Thank you very much for your valuable and prompt help.
    Peter

    Hi,
thanks for that. I've seen a document on the VWIC-MFT-E1 that states the max cable length is approx 600m.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps274/products_tech_note09186a00800b6e0f.shtml
Where did you get the 200m from? do you have a reference doc you could point me at?

  • Max USB cable length for LT1421

Does anyone know how long the USB cable can be for connecting the LT1421 flat panel to the computer?
The screen is delivered with 1,8m but I must place the panel in a least 6 meter distance from the computer, is that possible?
I know that the max length for USB 2 is about 5 meters, but it varies between products how sensitive they are to cable length.

3 meters for USB1 and 5 meters for USB 2.  You can find lots of information on the subject with a quick search.  Try http://www.usb.org/about/faq/ans5 for starters.  It explains how to get up to 25 meters of USB cable when you use several USB hubs.

  • Minimum Fiber Patch Cable Length for MGBSX1

I want to "stack" a couple 300 series gigabit switches with fiber using a pair of MGBSX1 GBICs and a single LC to LC patch cable.
Is there a minimum supported patch cable length in this configuration?

    Howard,
Thank you for posting. You should have no issues using a short fiber patch between the switches. Just make sure the fiber doesn't bend too sharply and get damaged.

  • Extending DVI cable length for 30" display

With my new home office setup the computer will sit 25ft from the 30" Cinema display, so what are my options connecting this beast?
    +
DVI Coupler (Female to Female) and DVI Male Digital/DVI Male Digital Dual Link (24AWG) Cable - 25FT
Would that work? Or maybe switch to an HDMI solution with DVI to HDMI adapters?
    Thanks!

A 10 ft. dual-link DVI extension should work, depending on the quality of the cable. Try to find a M-F cable, so you won't need a gender changer. You want to have the minimum number of connections.

  • Which 3.5 mm cable works for Aux connections

I have the iPod touch 4 and in the car we have a 3.5 mm extension cable (female to female), but when we plug the cable into the iPod there is just thud sounds but not music. If I play with the cable buy pulling it out of the iPod a bit (being partially in) then I get some music, but this is not a fix since someone needs to be holding the cable partly out.  I have no problem with other devices such as other brands of MP3 players, just the iPod.  I should also add that I had this iPod replaced not long ago and the previous iPod also had this same issue so it's definitely an issue with the plug and cable.
What should I be looking for in terms of a 3.5 mm cable that works with the iPod so I can listen to music via aux cable?

    - The jack on the iPod accepts a standard 3.5 mm plug.
    - Do headphones work OK in the iPod?

  • AP recommendation for use with Nortel POE switch

Okay, so the 1130AG apparently won't work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch using POE.
I can't necessarily replace the switches, so I have to write off the AP and try another one.
What model APs will work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch.
    Thanks.
    Rick

This seems confusing to me. We use the HP 2650-PWR, which is also 802.11af and it works fine. Have you tried disabling CDP on the ports you want to use with the AP?

  • Adding a PoE Switch to existing Network

    Hello,
Currently we have a Linksys RV016 router with 3 Linksys SRW224G 24-Port Managed Switch. Can I add a PoE switch to my existing setup without any problems or I can only add none PoE switches?
If I can add a PoE switch is there a specific configuration or just plug and play?
    Thanks,
    B

Yes you can connect a PoE switch to the SRW224G switches but you will need to connect the PoE switch to a power supply. The only way that PoE (Power over Ethernet) will work is when you connect the PoE switch with another PoE switch. Only in this scenario, you won’t need to use a separate power supply for the PoE switch to work because it is getting its power form the first PoE switch / router.
Regarding if this will just be plug and play, it won’t be plug and play. If you have set up VLANs or other crucial settings in the other switches and you want it to manually set the PoE switch depending on the limitations you want for these PoE switches.

  • AP Cable length issues - Will PoE injectors act as a repeater?

    Hello,
We have a site utilizing the Catalyst 3650 switches with integrated controllers for WiFi.  Unfortunately due to a union/political situation we're not able to work closely with cable designers and installers to ensure cable length restrictions aren't exceeded and often have to get creative with remediation for such problems.
I have 5x3700 APs that are hung in an extremely high ceiling with directional antennas that just can't boot up and connect to the integrated controller from the nearest closet.  The cable length is likely close to 200m.  Unfortunately, installing a 3650 closer to the APs is not an option due to architectural and environmental factors.
I'm wondering if a power injector(AIR-PWRINJ5=) will act as a simple repeater bump in the wire and effectively extend the possible cable length if inserted half way between the AP and the Switch?
We've tried using the 3560C compact switches for this problem which works great for WLC based installations but breaks the integrated controller scenario as all APs must be connected directly to the switch for the integrated controllers to work.
    Thanks,
    Greg

You can try to introduce a power injector between the switch and the AP, at less than 100 meters from the A . You´ll guarantee the AP receives PoE correctly. However , the cable distance facing the 802.3 Ethernet protocol remains of 200 meters , and this will , if that works, that there are many collisions in the medium due to the timing of the ethernet protocol.
If is possible, you can enter a small switch between the 3650 and the AP, as transceiver "copper-to-copper", without vlans , no routing, nothing ... just making functions of "repeater". Even there are catalyst switches of the Compact series, with inline-outline power (2960CPD-8PT-L,...). They could receive PoE of the 3650 and gives PoE to the AP, without aditional electrical wire.

  • Cable length limitation from PoE switch and Camera

Our ethernet based network design requires PoE switch connected to five IP CCTV camera through ethh. It is not clear maximum length of cable allowed between switch and camera. Can anyone explain?

I think there are 2 answer to this question.
    The first is
    150 meter.
    The second answer is,
There is no limit. You just need to make sure that the camera still receives enough voltage to work, iow you measure the remaining voltage, and if you go above the 150 meters of cable the link must operate in full duplex, 10 100 or GIgabit is up to you as long as the duplex is full.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Can i run a printer off the ethernet cable connection without hurting the imac or is the ethernet slot only for internet connection?

can i run a printer off the ethernet cable connection without hurting the imac or is the ethernet slot only for internet connection?

    Hi, Alan -
How can I connect to both printer (HP 4050n, via direct connection) and internet (via LAN), as my iMac has only one R45 port?
You can, but you'll need to expand your cabling a bit.
You'll need to get an intermediate ethernet hub, switch, or router. That device sits alone, with the Mac, your printer, and your modem/LAN plugged into it.
If you are already using a router, either separate or in combination with the modem (many modems have a built-in router), then you just need a hub or switch.
I use an ethernet switch (10/100/1000) to let both my Macs (a 2010 iMac and an elderly G4 DA model) use my HP4000n printer and my modem. The ethernet switch is a passive device, meaning there's no setup nor instructing it required - it's truly plug-and-play. All four items (two Macs, printer, and modem) are plugged into it via ethernet; both Macs have full-time independent access to the printer and the modem.
