UTP to Fibber Media converters for WLC connection to a Catalyst fiber blade

Hi Netpros,
Just wondering whether any of you have used a media converter to connect the WLC to a catalyst fibber port ..? If so which model have you used ? I am looking at something like this

Your response is much appreciated

Hi Fernando,
This would work. Why don't you purchase a GLC-TX instead?

  • AP to WLC connectivity

    Hello All,
When ap's are providing multi-gig performance 802.11ad, connectivity between AP and WLC would be not just ethernet right.!!!
What media type we are going to use and how about the POE requirement for AP in future..?

Thankyou Leo , I totally agree with you :), what I meant in that thread is the POE tech will remain same ( just more power would be needed which I skipped , my fault ) ,  it is quite understandable that higher frequency operation and  jumps over multi standards will consume more power!!
Prasan, as Leo said, the power fed will be more here, since we can see we are operating very high frequency. The purpose is same as we have in our telecom towers!! telecom towers communicate with each other using microwaves ( high frequency ,power and less wavelength ). There also the line of sight should be clear. rays cant penetrate the obstacles.
Regarding, AP to WLC connectivity, our APs already have gig -uplinks to handle the traffic. I don't know how the traffic more than 1 gig around 7 ( 802.11ad bets ) , probably link aggregation could be the solution.

If I will find more resources i will post here.

  • I have partitioned my time capsule, but I can't get it to work as a Time Machine back up and permanent media server for both mac and PC. What format do I need to partition the drive to so that it works for both mac and windows and so that it will be visab

I have partitioned my time capsule, as I want part of it to act as a media server for both mac and windows. However I don't know what format that I need to partition it to. I also can't make it a permanently accesible drive. I want to restore the drive to the original format (which I don't know) and start again and re-partition the drive in a format that can be used for media by both mac and PC and for time machine back-ups and make the media part of it permanetly accesible so I can add and acccess my files.
    Thanks

You are mixing up a couple of things here.
The TC drive cannot be partitioned without removing it.. did you do that?
If you partition it you must use a Mac disk utility and use the HFS+ ie standard Mac format. And GUID partition table not windows type.
You can select erase disk in the airport utility.. that will take the disk back to original format. No partitions. TC is deliberately not partitioned as it is not a media server.. it is a backup device for TM. Over time .. the disk will be filled with TM backups so you have a long history of file changes to your computer.
There is no media server in the TC.. it is merely disk storage.. you can serve files from it to a media device.. but the TC itself is dumb as dumb.
Now the actual format of the drive is irrelevant to the PC.. The TC offers SMB file services to the network. You can copy files to and from the TC as if it was a local disk without caring one iota about the format. The TC handles that .. it is not a local disk .. it is a network drive.
Although you cannot partition the TC. you can still copy files to it.. this does have implications for TM.. but as long as there is plenty of free space should not be a major issue.
You can create a disk image via the disk utility in a Mac.. and as stated you can create partitions if you do it on a Mac with the disk directly connected which means breaking warranty if any exists on the TC.

  • WES610N - only one MAC address for all connected devices

Hi! I use a WES610N 4-port WLAN bridge to connect my audio and video devices (Pioneer AV receiver, Samsung TV set and a WD Live TV box) to my E4200 router upstairs. This works fine and the WLAN connection works stable and fast. There's a Synology 212j NAS running DM 3.2 connected to my E4200 router. On this NAS a DLNA/UPnP media server is running to stream audio and video from the NAS to my Receiver, to my TV set and to the WD Live TV box. Audio and video is ok but i also want to send photos from the NAS direct to the TV and WD Live. To see the photos in the correct solution i have to configure a DLNA profile on the media server for each DLNA client which connects to the media server. I have to configute this based on the device name, IP address and MAC address shown in the clinet list of the media server. So far so good - and here's my problem: Every device connected to the WES610N is seen with the same MAC address - the one of the WES610 - by the media server. This confuses the server and it's not possible to assign a DLNA profile to each of the devices (TV, Receiver, WD box) because the IP - MAC pairing always changes when one of the devices sends data packets to the media server. So the assigned profile configuration gets lost and switches back to standard DLNA profile and photos can not be displayed correct by the devices. So what i would need is that every device connected to the WES610N is seen by the media server by it's on MAC address. Is there a solution or are there plans to implement this in future firmware versions? Thx, BR Christian

You can try the following combination of settings :-
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
4] Then click on Security tab disable SPI Firewall Protection, uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Then check the connectivity status...

  • BB 8330 Media Manager, Media Sync hanging - not connecting...

(I just know this is treated in depth somewhere but after a couple of hours of searching, I can't find it so appologies in advance...)
I have a BB 8330 from Verizon running v4.5.0.77 - no media card.
    Using Device Manager, the:
    Driver version is: 4.1.0.4
Driver Node Strong Name is: oem25.inf:RIM:RimUsb.Device.NT:4.1.0.4:usb\vid_0fca&pid_8004&mi_00
Windows thinks the driver is up to date.
    I am running  Desktop Manager v4.7.0.32[Nov 4 2008]
When I launch DM, I can successfully Back up my BB.
On my Vista PC - When I attempt to launch  Media Manager 9, it has found the files in the Library but it goes into a wierd loop where it keeps seeing the F: drive and then removes it and then resets and then sees it again - forever (or at least for the day that I left it in that loop)
I loaded the DM on another PC running XP and observe a similar behavior - it's not quite as zippy so it just looks more like a hang
To try something different, I downloaded Media Sync v2.0.0.22 and, when the BB is connected, I get the error: "BlackBerry Media Sync failed to connect to your BlackBerry device. Click Retry to try again or Cancel to disconnect." - I get the same error with and without the DM running.
Something seems sort of hinky in that, while my BB is plugged in on my Vista system, occassionall I get the lights flashing on my keyboard like someting is resetting the USB every few minutes (unrelated Vista crap?).
    Please help...

You are going to want to get a media card if planning to add music-ringtones-pictures-videos.  Don't want to use up device memory.  It'll go fast.

  • Problem with a patch for Creative Media Explorer for Ze

Has anyone had any problems with their PC (rebooting itself after install and getting a blue screen) when downloading and installing the update for Creative Media Explorer for Zen M to fix the album art problem for WMP?I downloaded this update per a response I got to thread here:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=79299?I downloaded the patch to update Creative Media Explorer. I was going to upgrade WMP to after that?but my PC got stuck at the startup screen during boot up. The hard dri've light indicator was on solid also. I thought maybe the dri've had died since I have had it for quite some time now. I took the dri've out and put it in an external enclosure I have that connects via USB. I was able to get into BIOS and set the boot order to boot from a USB dri've. When it started to boot up, it looked as if it was going to come up but it didn't. I seen a flash of a blue screen and the PC rebooted itself. I'm wondering if the update is causing the OS to hose up on start up. That's why I'm just wondering if anyone has downloaded this update with any problems. The update can be found here: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=3&x=40&y=7. It is number 5. I'm currently defraging my dri've and I am somehow going to try and repair the OS if I can and uninstall Media Explorer and reinstall. Oh one other thing, it will not boot into safe mode either.

I downloaded the patch and installed it on my PC and everything worked like a charm, and right after that my music started showing Album Art.However, I still didn't replace the new firmware on my Zen Vision M (.6) and I wonder if I should, since everything seems to work wonderfully well at this point?

  • Blackberry Media Sync fails to connect to my Blackberry

Everytime I try to use the Media Sync it fails to connect. Ive tried plenty of times and I still cant get it to work. Ive checked my usb connection and its all fine. i can do anything else but that.
    I have the blackberry 8320
How do i get it to connect?

    Thanks for your response.
I have desktop mgr 4.7 and BB plugged in and online. When i then click on the blackberry media sync function to upload my music from iTunes. It knows that my BB is still connected as it states my PIN No. in the top right hand corner, however as it is looking for my playlists, an error pops up and states "Blackberry Media Sync failed to connect to your Blackberry device. Click Retry to try again or Cancel to disconnect". If i click retry the same error comes up.
I am wondering if you can only assign one BB PIN to the Media Sync as it is linked to iTunes, similar to what Apple's restrictions are with having multiple iPods syncronising on the software.
Hope this makes sense, i was thinking i should send a snap shot of the screen into BlackBerry though can't find an email address to shoot it too.
    Thoughts?

I am trying to successfully sync my blackberry bold 9000 with itunes via the BB media sync program. I have successfully installed desktop manager and can sync contacts, email, add applications and can sync via Roxio media manager (painfully though). However when I open BB Media Sync I get an error Msg saying 'Blackberry Media Sync Failed to connect to your blackberry device - Retry or Cancel' It displays the device PIN in the window but still says please conect a blackberry device. I have mass storage mode turned on, media card support, USB drivers installed and have checked the media card is inserted correctly. When I try to find my blackberry in 'My Computer' it does not appear to be there either. What am I doing wrong?? Please help

  • MobilNova - Media Center for TomTom

    http://www.mobilnova.com/MobilNova/en/
Media Center for TomTom extends all-in-one TomTom navigation systems into a portable Video and MP3 Player

    dbiz,
I have no problem with making Media Center an add-on for personal versions of Windows IF MS wants to sell it at a lower price. My problem is as a Volume Licensing customer, we are paying the same yearly fee (yearly recurring income for Microsoft) as we have
in the past and are getting features taken away from us that we had in Windows 7. Both DVD/MPEG2 playback in Media Player and Media Center were included in our VL versions of both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Enterprise. We are not seeing our licensing costs
go down but paying the same amount and getting less.
By all means, feel free to make Media Center and DVD/MPEG2 playback an add-on for personal versions of Windows (if you are dropping the price), but include it for your VL customers who are paying for SA and who's prices are not going down.
Businesses (or schools in my case) do not want to add 3rd party solutions to our images and don't like losing functionality we have had in the past. Even Media Center had it's place in the classroom. You could do network TV Tuners or just have a nice interface
to play back media on a connected TV or projector for the classroom.

  • Switchport QoS configuration for WLC

    Hi guys,
I am having a question about switchport QoS configuration for WLC. In the "enterprise mobility deployment guide 4.1", it says we can use both either "mls qos trust cos" or "mls qos trust dscp", depending on the mapping, however looking through Jerome's video tutorial on QoS in youtube, he actually mentioned that we need to keep this value as "mls qos trust cos", and I have also read from somewhere else that since controllers are layer 2 device, we do need to use "mls qos trust cos" on the switchport directly connected to the WLC.
however I did see some configurations using "mls qos trust dscp" on the switchport, which is for 5508 WLC due to some hardware design in the 5508 WLC. so I just want to ask what is the differnece between these two commands when we use them for switchports connected to WLC, and does this command really specific for what controller platform we use or it only depends on code version?
thank you very much for your time and help.

    Hi George,
Thanks for your reply, however I am still a bit confused on the difference between the two commands...
so in the deployment guide it does say we can do either one on the switchports connected to the WLC, so when should we use trust dscp instead of cos?
it sort of make sense when we talk about WLC is a layer 2 device hence we should use cos, but we also have packets marked with dscp values and I think the controller will keep the value without any modification, then that means we can also use trust dscp in order for this mapping to be done correctly, is this correct?
I did see some other people saying that when using turst dscp and did a packet capture, the values cannot be mapped correctly, but there are also cases that this works. expecially with 5508 series controllers, does it really have some hardware features that doing different things than the 4404s and the 2100 series?
but still, in what situation should we trust dscp on switchports connecting to WLC and when should we use trust cos as a best practice? or we should just forget about trust dscp for switchport connecting to WLC?
    Thanks.

  • Having trouble using my airport extreme as a media server for my ps3--can anyone help?

I'd like to set up my apple airport extreme with a USB seagate drive, and use the drive as a media server for my ps3.  I have successfully connected my seagate drive to my airport extreme.  I have successfully transferred a sample movie to this seagate drive.  My laptop is easily able to find the drive and is able to play the sample film from the drive.  How can I turn this drive into a media server?  I'd like for my PS3 to be able to read movies off the network drive and play them.  Help??

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.

  • Disable Media Bypass for exchange UM?

    Hello all,
From what I am seeing it looks like calls to exchange UM always do media bypass (even if media bypass is disabled globally). Is it correct? And is there a way to force media bypass for all UM calls (calls reaching UM to leave a voicemail or direct calls
    to Subscriber or AutoAttendant)?
    Thanks,
    Gael

... I can't think of a simple scenario where you can force the calls through the mediation and without an edge, but I'm not an absolute expert here.  It's worth a try to disable communication except from Lync roles and see what the outcome is.
That said, you might be able to take advantage of this feature if nothing else works:  New-CSVoiceMailReroutingConfiguration
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg425849.aspx
It's basically for rerouting calls to UM through the PSTN if direct access to the Exchange server can't be reached.  It's meant for branch offices who have local Lync services, but no local Exchange services during a WAN outage.  But your connectivity
wouldn't be completely lost is the issue. The front end would still be able to communicate, and signaling would flow this direction, only media flows from the client.  You'd also have to cut off communication from the front end.
That last one is a brainstorm and a last resort, you should be fine without it, but you may need an edge.

  • Dedicated vlan for WLC

    Hi,
In reviewing the lab for WLC configuration, they used a dedicated vlan for all APs and the WLC to communicate with CAPWAP.
In the production environment I'm designing for, a campus network that has many LAN connected sites all with different vlans at the edge, that would entail trunking another vlan out to the edge switches. It also requires the MetroEthernet provider to provision the same beforehand.
One of the advantages of the WLC is the ability to avoid having to add vlans at the edge for WLANs, but what about a dedicated vlan for the APs and WLC to communicate with CAPWAP? A best practice?
    Thanks.

As best practice we've only two options, keep the AP on L2 vlan(not scalable) of management or on any L3(vlan that is not part of dynamic interface of WLC) which is scalable and good for highavailability.

  • CER_TELEPHONY | Cannot register media terminal for port : 7000000

CER_TELEPHONY | Cannot register media terminal for port : 7000000
This error is coming up over and over again in my Cisco Emergency Responder logs. The media port correlates back to CTI ports on call manager with the same identifier. So I went to CUCM and issued a reset on the CTI port that matches but I am still getting the same error. My 911 calls are working just fine btw.  Any ideas on how to clear this up or if it could potentially cause issues?
    RESOLVED:
I hit the correct button by accident. The fix to this was to restart CTI Manager on CUCM that was connecting to CER.

The partition they have on the CTI port wouldn't matter would it? CER would communicate to the Application user account which would then register up one of those ports to initiate the call to the destination number.
Since nothing is calling the CTI port it really wouldn't matter what partition they are in as long as their CSS contained the partition of the destination number right?
About the RTMT trace.. how would I know what the calling number is? I had the thought that the calling number would be the CTI ports DN. Is my train of thought correct? I can try a trace on the called number and see if I can track it that way though. Thanks for the suggestions!
