V Cast Manager
Has anyone used the V Cast Manager? I'm not sure why or how this keeps popping up when i plug my computer into my PC, but it seems to feel a little like maybe the ITUNES account for IPHONE? Has anyone used it, what are your thoughts?
Merry Christmas, Happy Hollidays, and all that good stuff to everyone on here! This year has been filled with new exciting findings on my Droid X, hopefully for all of your as well! Thank you Motorolla and Verizon for putting out this phone, it has transformed my life for the better in so many ways!
So here is to 2011, learning more funntionality on this phone that seems like it can do anything and everything!!!

wildman is it ok to keep the motorola driver 4.6.0 or should be dumped as well an: And when i plug my X to pc it wants to kick that verizon thing on IE up all the time how do u get rid of it for good as everytime i connect it here comes.
Im using the 4.7.1 version but I am assuming that the 4.6.0 version should work, did you make sure to disable the autoplay feature as listed because if you do not disable the option it will detect the autorun command on the phones drive and attenpt to run it when phone is plugged into usb, if you disable the auto run on that drive it shouldnt try to reinstall. Also check out my post at http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/USB-Connection-Issue/td-p/294666/page/2 that covers the list of steps that I am using now and makes the MotoConnect go away.
Let me know how it goes for you....

How do I install a patch? (xfce4-power-manager tray icon patch)
Sorry if this is a stupid question or if the answer can be found elsewhere, but I googled and searched the forums and couldn't find any answers.
xfce4-power-manager had for the longest time had a tray icon showing battery status, and they recently decided to remove it in favor of a xfce-panel only icon. Bringing it back was requested on bugzilla and a patch was released.
But I really have no idea what to do with it. Can someone shine some light on this for me?

(M) - 009251026226If you're not going to host the wiki yourself and you want the Mac OSX Wiki, then it's either use the full OSX Virtual Server. If you can host the wiki, then buy a MAC-Mini (w/ OSX). You're going to need at least a T1 line (with a static IP) in order to make that work. Folks attaching to the wiki need upload speed.
So by the time you get done adding up all the expenses a remotely hosted virtual server may be your best bet.

Need a help to update coherence cache values in c++
Hi,
I need to update coherence cache value of a particular object.
Managed<ExposureHolderContract>::Handle contract =
cast<Managed<ExposureHolderContract>::Handle>(cache->get(vsName));
contract->setName("dsafd");
When i try to cast to a ManagedObject:: Handle it says
coherence::lang::ConstCastException: attempt to cast from a "const coherence::lang::Managed<ExposureHolderContract>" to a "coherence::lang::Managed<ExposureHolderContract>"
at void coherence::lang::coh_throw_const_cast(const std::type_info&, const std::type_info&)(ConstCastException.cpp:27)

<stack frame symbol unavailable>

<stack frame symbol unavailable>
at __libc_start_main
on thread "main"
In the documentation it says in order to call non static methods we need to retrieve the handle.
but when I try to cast to a handle it fails.
I'm inserting data to coherence cache by calling Managed::create method. Is this method making immutable object.
ExposureHolderContract tempEhc(contractId, name, date, age, weight);
Managed<ExposureHolderContract>::Handle ss = Managed<ExposureHolderContract>::create(tempEhc);
cache->put(String::create(contractId.c_str()), ss);
Please help me to update the recorde value.
regards,
suraHi Sura,
It is a matter of safety and correctness. The in-process caches return a locally held object, and thus if you made some change to it, that change would be visible within the in-process cache, while not visible to the remote cache. Thus future access to the in-process cache would see a value which does not actually exist in the remote cache. While it is true that if you modify it with the intent to immediately re-insert it this shrinks the window of incorrectness that window still exists, and of course the cache has no idea if you will ever reinsert the value. As for the effect on performance it should be insignificant if you actually do put it back in the cache as the cost of a cache update will easily be multiple orders of magnitude greater then the cost of the clone. Also remember there is no requirement to clone a value if you don't intend to mutate it, you can safely use it via the View. So the only time the performance cost of the clone could be considered significant is when you intend to mutate but not reinsert the data, but a clone is also necessary there as not cloning it would leave the in-process cache in an inconsistent state with respect to the remote cache.

Both David Bell and Pierre Gelli have outlined some interesting
techniques to get handles to, what I like to term, Partition Visible
Shared Objects (i.e., PVSOs). These objects are not true service objects
since they can not be referenced directly by name. However, both
techniques offer a mechanism to provide local (within a partition)
shared object references for all partitions.
The techniques described by David and Pierre are very similar to work
that we have done recently and I would like to comment and expand upon
their ideas. First, one refinement...
Code snippet from Pierre Gelli's agent approach:
Then, for any instance of a class that needs a global
variable, only two lines of code are needed, at
initialization time, to get a reference to the local
cache of the partition, then a global variable is
accessed as if part of a local objectThe above technique should be refined such that a class instance should
resolve this "local shared reference" each time it is needed since the
class instance may "live" in many different partitions during its
lifetime. However, the technique will work as described so long as the
class instance is anchored and never cloned or copied to other
partitions.
To expand upon the earlier techniques, we created a strategy where each
class defines a virtual attribute which does the agent look-up using
code similar to the following. The virtual attribute was defined so that
the developer did not need to copy the following code, but could instead
reference to "self.PVSOVirtualAttribute" and get the required reference.
Sample code:
theAgent : SystemAgent;
thePVSO : PVSOClass;
//Get partition agent
partAgent : ActivePartitionAgent;
partAgent = ActivePartitionAgent(task.Part.ActPartAgent);
//Get named agent and cast managed object reference to appropriate class
theAgent = partAgent.FindSubAgent(name = 'agentName');
thePVSO = (PVSOClass)(theAgent.ManagedObject);
This sample code can be reduced to a single line as follows:
thePVSO : PVSOClass =
(PVSOClass)((systemAgent)(task.Part.ActPartAgent).FindSubAgent (name =
'agentName').ManagedObject);
The above technique has been tested with the beta 2 release of Forte 3
(i.e., 3.0.B.0) and works when running from development, when
distributed and when deployed. One word of caution is to avoid the
situation where multiple PVSOClass instances might be instantiated when
running from development. This situation will raise an exception when
the second PVSOClass instance tries to attach its agent into the agent
hierarchy with a duplicate name.
Now, to expand upon the above techniques, consider the following:
1) Create an abstract super-class which defines the signature (i.e.,
interface for Java and Forte 3 buffs) for the PVSO in your Base Project
2) Define a PVSO virtual attribute on your base class(s) in your Base
Project
3) Change to above sample agent code to cast the agent's managed object
to your abstract super-class
4) Now every object which inherits from your base class(s) can get an
"abstract class" reference to a partition visible shared object at run
time (SO LONG AS THE PVSO SUBCLASS OBJECT IS ALREADY INSTANTIATED).
The reason that the PVSO subclass object must already be instantiated is
because of supplier project reference issues. That is, the Base Class
can not instantiate the PVSO subclass since the Base Class does not know
about the PVSO subclass (i.e., the project with the PVSO subclass does
not and can not supply the base project). Therefore, one of the
following techniques will need to be used to ensure that the PVSO
subclass object is in fact instantiated in every partition.
Client Partition:
1) Create the PVSO subclass on the client from your application start
class
2) Define a UVSO in the client partition based upon the "PVSO subclass"
class
Server Partitions:
1) Define a UVSO in every server partition... okay, this is not very
practical
2) Define a Base Manager class in a project that has the "PVSO subclass"
project as a supplier and have the Base Manager class instantiate a PVSO
subclass object during initialization (if one does not already exist).
Then ensure that each server partition has at least one SO which
ultimately inherits from the Base Manager class
So, now our strategy allows any object which inherits from our base
class(s) to access a partition visible shared object simply via
"self.PVSOVirtualAttribute". However, this it just the tip of the
iceberg, because gaining access to this reference can also resolve some
supplier project reference issues.
As an example, lets define SecPVSO and CachePVSO abstract super-classes
(class signatures only) in the base project and, using the agent
technique above, supply references to these abstract classes via virtual
attributes in the base class. Then, define two projects called the
SecPVSOProject and CachePVSOProject which implement SecPVSO and
CachePVSO subclasses respectively and have the Base Project as a
supplier.
Now, all classes in the SecPVSOProject which inherit from the base
class(s) can reference and use the CachePVSO class via the base class's
virtual CachePVSO attribute. Additionally, all classes in the
CachePVSOProject can reference and use the SecPVSO class via the base
class's virtual SecPVSO attribute. Therefore, when applied correctly,
the strategy described above makes it possible for multiple projects to
cross reference and use each other's services. Stated differently, this
strategy conceptually allows project to circularly reference each other.
Lastly, some additional things to consider:
1) In Forte 3, the abstract classes in the base project can be converted
to interfaces
2) Also in Forte 3, the instantiation of the PVSO subclass objects can
be handled much cleaner directly in the base class(s) using dynamic
loading and library distributions. We're currently using this approach
and it works in development, distributed and deployed tests.
3) The Builder design pattern could be applied to provide a single PVSO
reference/interface which encapsulates calls to all the partition
visible services like security, caching, timing, logging, etc.... This
provides a number of benefits like delayed instantiation, etc. while
still allowing the projects that implement the various security, caching
etc. services can reference and use each other freely.
4) Known limitation: The various method signatures for the PVSO
superclass/interface(s) in the base project can not have parameter types
which are defined in projects it supplies (e.g., no SecTicket, etc.
parameters allowed). Therefore, these parameters must be defined as type
"object" (or something similar) in the base project superclass/interface
and cast to their real type when they are referenced in the overridden
methods in the PVSO subclass(s).
5) I am currently investigating a variation of the above strategy, which
I term LVSO (interpretation of this acronym is left as an exercise for
the reader), to allow R3 Applets to communicate with each other and to
share "local" object references without ever leaving the launcher
partition. If you are interested in the outcome of this investigation,
please let me know.

I have attached a Event listener to underlying NamedCache and when I update the cache entry I didn't get any alerts. But When I checked the
coherence log I found following Exception available. But I'm not doing any sort of Casting as mentioned below.
2012-01-17 11:12:55.793/0.320 Oracle Coherence for C++ RTC 3.6.1.0 <Info> (thread=main): Connected Socket to 169.52.37.237/169.52.37.237:9099

When I wrote a sample application It works without any problem. Only difference of above exception coming program is this c++ library is loaded true JNI and relevant event listener is added during a JNI method call. Please explain me why this exception is coming. I have attached the relevant code as well.

SuraHi,
Even when I try to to test the MemberListener while closing the Coherene Java Cache Cluster I can see following Exception. Something similar to EventListener.

Currently have 2 pcs. Have added Itunes to one of them and am slowly re ripping my cd collection into aac format. The destination for the media is on an external hdd. As i import the cd i am editing the info, album art etc in my itunes media player so as format is suitable. How could I add itunes to my second pc to ensure these edited changes are encorperated. Is it just a straight download with the same email or do i have to approach it a different way
i clear the problem up, by doing a full power off with sd card take out, plug back in, it work fine without v cast manager.
but i got another problem, b4 2.2, everytime i go into my G: drive/DCIM/100Media
my PC lag, My explorer.exe will eat up all my CPU to 99%.
i try deleteing some files n still lag me pc up. so what i did was delete all my files in there, pic/vid and it stop the lag.
dont know what is making my explorer.exe eating up all the CPU. -
b4 the updated, i use to just upload pic/vid from my phone right onto my pc. now with the new updated. they making me use V cast media manage now.
i cant even go to my computure/ H drive or G drive now. it will pop up something like cant find no disk.i clear the problem up, by doing a full power off with sd card take out, plug back in, it work fine without v cast manager.

I'm using PC with: Windows 8.1, 64bit, Lightroom 5.4, Epson R3000, 6.75 (latest) driver, color management turned off in printer settings, Lightroom configured to manage color. If I use a generic ICC profile such as Epson sRGB, the prints look OK. But when I use any ICC profile dedicated to my paper and printer combination, such as Epson Premium Glossy, or one created using ColorMunki print profile, the prints all have a medium to heavy magenta tint or cast. The effect can be seen before I even print in the Epson Print Preview. Yet when I soft proof, I don't see this effect. I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the CMM process, but I can't pin it down. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you kindly for your insightful response. As it turns out, the answer is half correct. I've found others who'll say the same thing, that double color management will lead to a very magenta result. I believe this was certainly the case when I first started playing with the settings, Where I went wrong, is that after I corrected my settings by turning off printer manages color and letting Lightroom do the color management, is that the Epson Print Preview was still showing magenta with certain profiles. Not wanting to waste more money on paper and ink, I used the preview to gauge whether I was going to get a normal print or not. Then one day I ignored the print preview's magenta cast as a 'warning' and I went ahead printed the photo anyways. Because I used a profile that I created with ColorMunki Photo, the picture came out perfect (i.e. a very good match to what I was seeing in Lightoom on my monitor). The lesson learned is that for judging the final color correctness, the Epson Print Preview can be way off target and your best bet is to ignore it.

Droid X Unrecognized by V Cast Media Manager
Hi, I got my Droid X 4 days ago, and decided today to put some of my music and videos on it so I downloaded V Cast Media Manager to my computer. Unfortunately, although my computer and my phone acknowledge that there is a USB connection, V Cast does not pick up the device. I checked the Help instructions for this situation and as far as I can tell I am doing everything recommended.
Does anyone know any quick tips to fix this or common problems that might cause it?
Conversely, does anyone know of any other programs I can use to get my music onto my phone for listening pleasure?
Thanks!
BenJust open your My Computer folder while the phone is plugged in via usb. Find the drive for your SD card and create a folder like Music, or Video. Copy, paste etc on to the card.
Unplug phone from pc, wait a few min. Start opening apps that work your media. -
Disable V CAST Media Manager Web Pop Up?
Hi,
Every time I connect my Droid Incredible to my pc, my PC's web browser launches the V CAST Media Manager download page (http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_mediamanager_video).
This is an big annoyance and I would really like to disable it. Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks,THis worked for me, too, under Windows 7. Windows 7 has a comparable mechanism called AutoPlay under the "Hardware and Sound" Control Panel - but same idea. I narrowed down the problem to the "Software and games" AutoPlay option - so setting that to "Take no action" turns off this Verizon nagware while retaining the other Autoplay options (if you want that).
Thanks for the pointer! Verizon should have at least disabled the "pop up" after the first time it's shown - bad form, Verizon.

Does V CAST media manager cost anything to use?
I just downloaded V CAST media manager for my Samsung Reality phone. Will Verizon charge me for using it (connecting with USB cord) or is it free?
Just connecting the device to the computer using the USB cord would not be charged.
The application itself is free to use, but downloads and additional online storage would be subject to billing.
The V CAST Media Manager service is available from both the web and a mobile app.
For the Mobile Application:
If you subscribe to an unlimited data feature, no additional charges are applicable when uploading or downloading a file between the V CAST Media Manager mobile application and online storage. If you do not subscribe to an unlimited data feature, data transport charges will apply in accordance with the terms of your subscription. Downloads and online storage are still subject to billing. -
V Cast Media Manager for Vista 64
I get the error message that at this point V Cast Media Manager only supports 32 OS... hence it aborts the installation.
Please advise what I have to use instead, how can I up or download pictures or other media to my droid 2.The Motorola Droid 2 has several different options in sharing your files, pictures, videos, music, etc. I have listed a link below that will instruct you on the different methods you can use.

Below is one of the more user friendly ways of transferring media/files

***Please note this can also be done with pictures and videos. A SD card would be recommended if you don’t have one. If you do not have an SD card, you can purchase one from the link below, or most electronic stores.

V Cast Media Manager???
Do I have to have V Cast Media Manager feature on my wireless plan ($3/month) in order to be able to manage photos on my Incredible? I do not store photos in the storage site, just copy them to my hard drive on my computer so as not to take up space on the SD card.
You do not. You can manually drag them back and forth from your computer to your device while using the usb cable. Here are the steps to do so below:
In your Droid box you will have a USB charger. Connect that to your USB port on computer and the other end to your Droid. (this is also a great way to charge your Droid battery)
2
On your Droid screen, go to the "Notifications Bar" do this by touching the very top of screen (where you see Time and battery life)and lightly drag down. Now you will see "USB Connected"
3
Go ahead and touch the "USB Connected" icon. Now a box will pop up and the options to "Mount or "Not Mount" will pop up . You want to touch "Mount" .At this point you will use your computer interface to move files between your device and your computer.
4
When your are done transferring files go back to the "Notifications Bar" and lightly drag down again and then touch the "turn off USB storage"
