V GNex EOL, 4.2.1 (and 4.2.2/5.0)

Was hoping to get a few questions answered, a number of threads have been started, but I see more speculation and mod-editing than answers.
Regarding 4.2.x releases:
Are these forthcoming from Verizon in the near future?If so, is there an ETA?
Are these being limited due to LTE concerns, or are these being limited due to a clash in ethos between Nexus & Verizon? (i.e. Wallet vs Isis, clean vanilla user-defined experience vs some carriers lust for bloatware, etc.) Is Verizon afraid that folks would side-load apps like Wallet? Would it help expedite the 4.2.x release if they knew that many of us have no interest in paying with NFC?
Regarding the Verizon Galaxy Nexus end of life:
Will this have any impact on future security and functionality-driven releases? (Will the releases still be distributed, albeit on a heavily compromised timeline? While I'm puzzled by 4.2.x's delays, I'm genuinely concerned about 5.x.)
If so, will Verizon be allowing the OS vendor to handle OTA updates for devices that are deemed financially obsolescent, but are in fact still used by hundreds of thousands of customers?
If not, will customers need to rely on unsupported and 'taboo' methods in order to maintain current (albeit potentially compromised by 3rd party) OS security/functionality?
And last but not least:
Is it safe to presume that Verizon will not be supporting Nexus lines in the future?

EvanO_VZW,
Thank you for taking the time to attempt to respond to my inquiry. The website you direct my attention to is a pleasant piece of promotional/marketing. I knew it was the Year of the Snake, but I wouldn't have known that you were celebrating it at Verizon without the link you shared.
To which I say, "Rock, rock on."
Back to the topic & question at hand: I understand that there are legitimate financial reasons (and perhaps operational reasons) for your organization's repeated delays in a timely release of upgrades to the Galaxy Nexus.
That said, these business reasons are in direct conflict to the principle reason why I, and many thousands of your customers, purchased this device recently. This principle reason was highly touted by your company up until very recently. This was to be a Nexus device, updated quickly from the OS vendor with minimal tweaking from your organization. This is not happening.
Please ask your colleagues to remember this; you can tell from the heated comments from this and other threads that your customers are remembering.
I, and many folks, chose to go with this device with this operating system on your network for the following reasons:
We chose the Galaxy device as provided by Samsung (for which Samsung receives money on purchase)
We chose the Android operating system as provided by Google (for which Google receives valuable informatics on our consumer habits.)
We chose your network as it has superb capacity and coverage (for which you get a nice check from us.)
By delay and obfuscation, it becomes apparent that your organization is blurring core service #3 with mission/service that is not necessarily under your purview (1 & 2.) Continued delay and obfuscation on your organzation's part will invariably result in your customers questioning whether your intent relative to the parenthetical benefits of 1&2 above.
I have no interest in Isis. I have no interest in any of your apps. I do like your infrastructure and would like to continue to use your service at the end of our contract's life. Whether I chose to do so, is directly related to your organization's ability to hold up promises made (not inferred, made) when your team sold me this device.

• Vim and new lines

I just switched to Arch, so hi guys!
I'm using Vim to write a c program for school. The program is supposed to simply output a single rot13'd word, followed by a newline. So I did:
fprintf(output, "%s\n", result);
When I opened up the output file though, Vim didn't show a newline. I had to use two '\n' characters to get one line to show up. Exploring around, I found out that when the 'eol' option is set (and it is), vim automatically adds a new line to the file. I'm thinking that this means that Vim will ignore an ending '\n' that I output (replacing it with it's autogenerated one, or maybe it doesn't autogenerate a newline if there already is one?), but it will in fact show up in Visual Studio or whatever my professor uses to run our programs. Is this a safe assumption?

Trent wrote:What do you mean by "Vim didn't show a newline"? If you mean there was no blank line at the end of the file, that's expected, given the code.
Well, I guess I'm used to editors (the text editor in Visual Studio, for example) where the output of my command would look like
somestring
<blank line>
in the editor. Which, as I've been reading on google, is horribly wrong . The whole issue seems rather needlessly complicated. Anyhow, thanks for the cat tip peasantoid, that will help my peace of mind!

• EOS\EOL 15305, 15310

Recently, I saw the announcement of EOL EOS 15305 15310 and i didn't sow any replacement products. Does Cisco have any plans to develop new access platforms?

CTP50 this is the smalest shasssiss but it can work only with CTP200 and CTP600, and this solution will not cheap if we need 10 E1 channels.
Could you tell us something about new platform? will Cisco buy some company or buy redy product?

• Null but not null Document on UNIX - URGENT

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I am using a simple DOMParser to read an xml file in. Now once I have this object I want to parse values out of it. Now on Windows this works fine. On UNIX I am getting something wierd. For instance:
If I call:
if(theDocument == null) {
System.out.println("IT IS NULL");
nothing happens
BUT
if I call
System.out.println(theDocument);
I get: [#document: null]
and if I try to call
theDocument.<anyMethod>
it throws a null pointer exception
BUT if I use XMLSerializer and serialize theDocument
it prints out the XML perfectly.
WHAT IS GOIN ON????????????
I am desparate as I am at the end of a project and this is this is the last hurdle.
If anyone knows why the object is null but isn't or anything I would greatly appreciate it.
THANKS!!!!

There is an issue, perhaps, because of the different EOL characters between Windows and Unix? If you wrote the parser yourself, does the code handle this difference? That's the only thing I can think of that would alter a parser working on a document between the two operating systems.

• Installing Windows XP via Boot Camp on a partitioned HD

I have an iMac with a 2TB hard disk. I wanted to install Windows XP (believe it or not, I need some things only available in that inferior OS ) but I find I can't do it because my HD is partitioned.
Reading the official installation guide I see the following:
"The disk must be a single partition, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
If the disk already has more than one partition, you must repartition it."
Now, what does this exactly mean? One one of the partitions I have the OS and applications and in the other I have data. One of the possible meanings of "repartition" would be to create an additional partition, empty of data and formated as Mac OS Extended so that Boot Camp would use it (previously) reformatting it to install Windows XP. It would be great if I could do this but would this work?
The other meaning of repartitioning is that I eliminate the partitions and I go back to a single partition. Is this possible without having to reformat the HD and having to reinstall everything all over again? I would hate to have to do that as I have a lot of apps installed and properly configured and it would involve too much time to get it all ready again.
At the beginning I didn't want to use Boot Camp because I thought with a virtual machine I would have enough to run the Windows apps I need. This didn't work. I installed Windows XP with VirtualBox and I found that the virtual machine does not recognize my scanner. I invested quite a lot of money on an OCR package for Windows and I need the scanner and the OCR software badly for my work. Now, after hours of tinkering with VirtualBox I decided Boot Camp might be a better solution because it is very likely that it will have the drivers I need to get my scanner and other peripherals to work with Windows XP. But then I find this apparently stupid obstacle. Why can't Boot Camp make an additional partition with the large space I still have available on my HD?
Would some friendly member of the Apple community be so kind as to guide me through this little mess? Thanks a lot in avance.

Only have to understand Master Boot Record limitation.
All partitions count, not just user space volumes.
As I understand it, Windows has to be in one of the first 4 parttions, and partition tables get counted.
Limit to have many partitions you can have on a drive that uses MBR.
There is no "install Boot Camp" but rather Boot Camp Assistant is a one trick pony drive partitioning tool with one purpose. Doesnt' otherwise help, req'd for XP (essential) or where OS X resides.
If Windows could be installed elsewhere, or get rid of having to use MBR and switch to GPT (not going to happen soon). And, that Macs use EFI and UEFI supports 64-bit Windows Vista/7.
And should you install Windows and then try to shink and add partitions, that causes some problems that may require fixing the boot blocks or worse, or only be cosmetic.
With future updates for XP now having reached EOL I'd skip and go straight to Windows 7.

• FileAdapter write mode - Dynamic filename, write down simple text structure

Hi,
I tried to use the FileAdapter in a BPEL Process to write down and existing structure as String, comming from Database (CLOB), which has a defined structure.
My first problem is, that I assign an output filename through the output message header variable, but it does not work. Instead always the name from the Filename convention is taken (wizard like po_%SEQ%.txt).
My second problem is, that the FileAdapater destroyes the format during the write procedure. E.g.: The String structure is as follows:
MKKOPF EF585773 07.05.2009 1 XXX Spielapparate u. Restaurant- betriebsgmbH 40031356 Brehmstraße 21 1110 Wien 900000585773 EUR ML

MKPOS. EF4428644 26.07.2009PRVB 948,66 / 10 / +5% WA
a.s.o, . So you can see, its quite a simple format, which has to stay like that!
First I tried to use the opaque mode for the fileoutput format, but I was stopped, because of the '/' characters in the source data. So I used the native builder to create a xml schema (I used deliminated file, multiple records, deliminated by white spaces, tabs and spaces). To identify the multiple records, I have chosen the end of line (eol). Except EOF and EOL there is no other choice, like CRLF,\r,\n!
However, testing my native format, result in writting a file with containing a single line with the original data. So the original line breaks are gone, and therefore the system who should process it further gets an parsing error!
The simple question is, how can I simple write down string data (containing German special chars, like Öäü --> ISO8859-1 and also XML reserved values like /) through the file adapter without destroying its structure?
Second, how can I pass dynamically the filename, as using the output header values does not work?
I hope some specialists are out there.
Thanks & BR,
Peter

Hi James,
here what I am doing.
I read some records from the database throught the database adapter. The returned records representing strings, which should be written, line by line separated by 0xA (\n) to a single file.
Also for the file write we use a Oracle SOA Adapter --> the FileAdapter.
We discussed quiet some time about opaque schema and native builder. So on my understanding only the native builder version works. Otherwise I get an error, because of the contained slashes in the string record.
What I am searching for is an easy way for aggregating this database row strings and append it with 0xA (\n).
With XPath functions, like create-deliminated-string(node, '#xA') I had no success. Adhering to XML the signs #xA should represent 0xA, but it does not work.
Also in using the encodeLineTerminators
is not working.
So I had really write a long bpel construct, combined with a Java Code Emeeding to do such a simple thing:
Here is the interessting part (hiden the while loop, index handling and final fileadapter write call details):
<while name="While_1"
condition="($VariableSapBillingJobs > 0) and ($VariableIndex <= $VariableSapBillingJobs)">
<sequence name="Sequence_4">
<sequence name="Sequence_4">
<assign name="Assign">
<copy>
<from expression="concat(bpws:getVariableData('VariableBuffer'), bpws:getVariableData('InvokeSapDataSelection_eBillingSapDB4Select_OutputVariable','eBillingSapDB4SelectOutputCollection','/ns8:eBillingSapDB4SelectOutputCollection/ns8:eBillingSapDB4SelectOutput[$VariableIndex]/ns8:LINE'))"/>
<to variable="VariableBuffer"/>
</copy>
</assign>
*<bpelx:exec name="JavaAppendCRLF" language="java"*
version="1.5">
<![CDATA[String buffer = (String)getVariableData("VariableBuffer");
buffer += "\n";
setVariableData("VariableBuffer", buffer);]]>
</bpelx:exec>
<assign name="AggregateStructure">
<copy>
<from expression="$VariableIndex + 1"/>
<to variable="VariableIndex"/>
</copy>
</assign>
</sequence>
</sequence>
</while>
There must be a simpler way like that!
Do you or somebody else a simpler way? Doing it with the FileAdapter native builder, or at least with a XPath function?
Furthermore my next homework is, the inverse operation. I will read a file, this time terminated with 0xD 0xA, and must translate it to XML to use it further in my bpel process.
Also here I have not the idea, where the fileadapter supports me.
Thanks & BR,
Peter

• ASV plugin to FLEX migration from Adobe?

Has Adobe provided any migration path from ASV 3 plugin to
Flex when they announced EOL for ASV plugin and recommended Flex
instead?
I thought it is just a pure common sense to make the
migration path smoother. Yes Adobe wanted to make money and that's
how Flex was born and ASV was trashed. Now, I see everyone is
struggling towards migration from ASV to other alternatives. No
luck there.
Are we supposed to re-write entire SVG generation code to
adapt to Flex technology? Just pure non-sense to me!

trying once again??

• Solaris 8 for SPARC ISOs anyone?

Hello, I am new to this forum, but I am really trying to get my hands on Solaris 8 ISOs, CDs, etc. My company needs to support our products on Solaris 8.
Thanks in advance!
Sky

Hi
Ebay? Or perhaps from Sun by special order.
Solaris 8 entered end of life last February. In just over a year it will enter phase 2 eol - no more patches, and access to existing patches only to customers with support contracts.
You should also be aware that no current SPARC hardware supports Solaris 8 (at least, not that I'm aware of). This might not be a problem if you have support contracts for your hardware. If, on the other hand, you don't have such a contract and your hardware fails, or you need extra hardware, then again you'll have to look for second hand sources like Ebay.
Perhaps you should consider moving to Solaris 9 or 10?

• Will a Lumia 810 never been update in future???

I'm using lumia 810, and it's a great phone. However, I heard that Lu 810 had EOL form T-mobile and it hasn't been get new FW since 1/2013. While lumia 820 & 822 have be update, why you forget lumia 810. That makes the users disappoint so much!!!

The 810 is, as you know, a T-Mobile device. While it is made by Nokia T-mob is the party to talk to about updates and support first.

I'm trying to locate a Letter of Volatility for the VXI-1000 Mainframe, but haven't had any luck searching the web site. I tried to submit a support request but don't have a membership number to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello mdbeer,

• Mountain Lion x Adobe CS6

How can I do to proceed a correct instalation and fully operating the Adobe CS6 Pack in a OS 10.8.2 Mountain Lion? The CS6 requires a Java SE 6 (the suite don't recognize Java 7!!!!). After uninstalling and activating the Java version 6, that remains invisible in Finder and System Preferences, including the Utilities folder, but appears working in the official Java Tester web page. Until the CS6 recognize a succesful installation of Java SE6, I cannot install the Adobe Illustrator, indeed. How can I do this installation? Where is the Java SE 6 I had installed in my Mountain Lion? Sorry about mistakes and thank you both.

Gilson Victor wrote:
Java is required for Adobe Illustrator, as said by jimhere, in the begin of installation process and during the software operation! But the version 7 just don't be recognized by CS6. So, I've been searching for tutorials to reverse the version, from 7 to SE6, and found this step-by-step instructions in this link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=pt_BR
After this procedures, the Java still don't appearing in Finder, but works fine as Java SE 6 update 37 in Java Tester: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
I believe the instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559 only work if you still have Java 6 installed after installing Java 7. I've tried them and still can't get CS6 to launch with Java 7 installed. Java 6 for Mac seems to have been pulled from Oracle's site (which makes sense, since they're EOLing it in February) and Apple's existing Java 6 installations (like this one: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5493, or the risky MacUpdate one at http://macupdate.com/app/mac/39490/apple-java) fail for me because it claims a newer version of that same package is stalled.
So I'm stuck with a non-functional CS 6 that won't recognize Java 7, and no way to download the version it does recognize, so I can hack it together.
Is anyone running CS6 with Java 7?

• What will happen to Contribute in the future?

I think Contribute has been discontinued or will not show up in the next CS. Reasons:
In the CS5.5-to-CS6 free upgrade offer, It listed a few products that are not eligible for the upgrade: Acrobat, OnLocation, Flash Builder, Flash Catalyst and Contribute. Among them,
OnLocation cannot be purchased individually (so there should be no real reason for it to show up in the first place). Also, OnLocation is dead.
Acrobat and Flash Builder don't follow the CS release schedule (FB4 was out slight before CS5, close enough but still different).
Flash Catalyst is dead.
Since Contributeis an individual product that follows the CS release schedule, its exclusionmeans either it is excluded from CS in the future, or is outright killed.
In the downloads report found in the Marketing Hub, assets for Ps, Ai, Id, Ic, Fl, Dw, Fw, Pr, Ae, En, Au, ExtendScript, AME, Extension Manager are all found, but not Contribute. Source
But then, the weekly downloads report mentioned the EOL of Device Central and OnLocation, but not Contribute.
And that is leaving me with the question on whether Contribute is still alive, and what is going on there.

AGP_Philly,
I have been using DW CS6 for a couple of weeks on a site where I still have users making updates using Contribute version 3. The "Administrate this site in Contribute" button in the DW CS6 site manager still opens the dialog after which Windows Task manager reports that Contribute.exe in the CS5.1 folder is running. Of course, I have the server set to use "Transition mode" and we do not use the Contribute Publishing Server.
The major difficulties in this environment with old versions of Contribute is the now-antiquated web client in version 3 not being able to display things as regular users see them. Version 5.1 is better, but not perfect. Using the browser plug-in helps some.
I am annoyed to have to reinstall Contribute from the CS5.5 Master Collection and not have it in the CS6 Master Collection. I had been hoping to entirely uninstall CS5.5 from this computer and just run CS6. As a developer, I'm not inclined to purchase my own copy of Contribute separately from CS6 just to be able to send clients screen captures for documentation. Unless Adobe restores Contribute's place alongside Dreamweaver for the CS bundles, I will probably steer future projects toward database-driven content management rather than using contribute. In fact, I have such a decision coming up this month that could go either way...

• Project File Saving with FCPX

Former FCP7 user who last year switched over to Adobe Premiere Pro CC and considering coming back to Final Cut via FCPX.
MY PROJECTS: 100% AVCHD 24 to 35 mbps, from Canon DSLR's, Canon Camcorders, and GoPro Hero 4 Silver. Most videos are multicam of 3 or 4 cameras, sometimes up to 6 or 8 (although infrequent) with Audio captured on all cameras via on camera audio except camera 1 and/or camera 2 which will have XLR direct wired or wireless fed. All raw/project work will be on an external Thunderbolt Duo Raid Drive.
Q 1: Am I best to use a new generate MacPro 3.7 GHz with at least 16 Gb ram and dual FoxPro Vid cards with 2Gb vmem each OR will a iMac of similar speed processor i7 with same memory limit work?
Q 2: With Adobe Pr I was able to put all of a video project into one file folder, can I do the same with FCPX? That is, a single folder entitled PROJECT 1 with the following files in it:
- Project file
- Folder containing all the captured or raw footage (file based)
- Folder with images
- Render files
- Any other files for that project
This idea being that once the project is created with all the scratch and other raw files into a single folder, the project could be off loaded onto portable drive and sent to another editor who in turn would copy the entire folder onto their Project Raid Drive, edit then off load to that same original portable drive, and then sent back to the original editor and/or another editor to follow the same process and continue the edit and/or wrap the project up and output into a NEW FOLDER within the same original folder.
Q 3: What would be suggested for DVD Authoring with menus and the like to produce near Hollywood style looking DVD functionality? I have Toast Titanium and now defunct (EOL) DVD Studio Pro and DVD Creator.
Thank you in advance to those who respond and help in this matter. My special priced CC subscription is running out in January and want to make a decision before then or will renew (although I don't really care for Adobe Pr CC.

FCP X with a recent iMac can do everything you want except the "Hollywood style“… DVD functionality. DVD's look good but menus and other authoring are very spartan. I'd suggest Encore remains your best bet.
In FCP X. rather than a folder with your project and assets, you would have a library with managed media (copy all your imports to the library).
Multicam projects are a strong suit.
Good luck

Cisco IronPort AsyncOS and Mail Flow Central software releases are supported for up to eighteen (18) months from the First Customer Shipment Date (FCS), or two (2) subsequent major releases of such software, whichever occurs first. At such time, the software reaches EOL. Major releases of the software are designated as an increment in the first number in a release designation (i.e. 4.y.z to 5.y.z).
At EOL, Engineering, Customer Support and the Cisco IronPort Threat Operations Center no longer provide support for the software release. Thus, update releases (e.g. service, maintenance, and patches) are no longer created for the software release and "signatures," "rules," or similar data services may not be compatible with discontinued versions of the software. To receive software support and updates, customers are required to upgrade to a supported version of the software.
