V.I.P only calls on Nokia 2310

Hello everyone,
I have just got a Nokia 2310 to replace my 6100. I am very happy with the 2310, however there is one feature I miss from my 6100, that I could mark certain people/numbers as V.I.P's and set the phone to only ring if it's a litsed V.I.P calling. When at work, this feature proved fantastic, no more friends interupting meetings, I liked knowing that if my phone rang, it was important.
Does anyone know if something similar is possible on the 2310? I noticed that when I add new contacts, I get a choice of little cartoon people images that I can put the entry with but I dont know what these little icon images are for...
Can someone pretty please help me? Its driving me mad as I somehow think that those little icon people have something to do with it and I just cant figure out how...
I hope someone can help me, even if it's just to tell me it's not possible, at least if I know it's not possible I can stop messing around trying to figure it out!

I am not sure about the 2310 not having owned one but if it has a Groups facility then you should be able to create a Group called VIP with a special ringtone and you should then bne able to give this group a unique ringtone.

Nokia 2310 suddenly displaying numbers only instea...

I was a happy user of a Nokia 2310 for 12 months. It was set to show the caller's name on the screen rather the number, for callers yet registered in the directory.
But suddenly it doesn't do that anymore: only the numbers, I have to look each time to whom the number applies to know who is trying to call me !
Has anybody an idea of what to do in such a case? The only thing I did just before the problem occured is copying all the telephone directory on the Sim card.
When I saw there was a problem, the first thing I did then is erasing the directory from the Sim card then. But nothing changes. I made a factory reset as well without success.
If anybody knows the solution to that, I would be very grateful.

When a callers number is shown instead of the name you had for the caller it usually means that you have the same number on two or more contacts. This can be either in phone memory or sim memory. Go through your phone book and check if this is true.
Another option you might like to try is to set the selected memory for the phonebook (contacts) to either SIM only or Phone only and not SIM and Phone. The fastes option is Phone memory.
My suggestions is to back your contacts up by copying them to the SIM card but you keep the selected memory for the phone book set to Phone only.
On my phone I select this by going :
Menu -> Contacts -> Settings -> Memory in use -> Phone

Nokia 2310-not displaying caller name

I've just bought a Nokia 2310 as they're very cheap as a standby phone but have a problem. I've copied the numbers from my simcard to the phone but if someone calls the phone, when it rings it only displays the number and not the name. This is obviously pointless as I would never know who's calling and makes missed calls a nightmare.
What have I done wrong?

The number in your phonebook has to match the one which is calling EXACTLY. So not 0489/235647 for instance, but you need to enter this number as +33489/235647 in your phonebook (the sign is important too). +33 is the country number of course.
If you're still not sure, save the number from messages you have recieved and enter that in your phonebook. Doing this will ensure that the messenger's or caller's name is displayed.
This is something I feel the manual should have adressed. You have no idea how much this **bleep** me off, until I found it a day later.

Problem sending texts on Nokia 2310

I am having problem sending texts on my nokia 2310. I have plenty of credit, and service, and can make outgoing calls. I have looked everywhere in settings and can't find anything wrong. I think some sort of barring may have been put on text messages whenit was in my pocket and unlocked, but i don't know how to remove it. Help would be very gratefully received,

please check the message centre number.if any of your friends are having any phone go to message settings and check for message centre number and key in the same number.it should work.if still it is same you just update it with latest firmware and it should work fine.cheers.

Will my Nokia 2310 phone (on a Telstra plan) work in Japan??

If I am not mistaken, your phone is dual band GSM only and as Japan has gone completely 3G, your phone will not work in Japan. Same applies to South Korea.

Nokia 2310 Alarm not ringing

Hi Im having trouble with my Nokia 2310 Alarm clock
Basically, it doesnt ring. When the alarm goes off the screen lights up and flashes but theres no vibration or ring.
When i recieve calls the phone vibrates and rings
I dont know whats wrong with my phone, ive played around with all the settings and cant seem to fix it. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know

Its a problem occured in savings at temporary memory.
You turn off Alarm option in the mobile and switch off the mobile, remove battery and leave the mobile without battery for 5 min. After 5 min, turn on your mobile and enable your Alarm option with your preferred ring tone or standard alarm tone and wake up early

Nokia 2310 - silence

My Nokia 2310 has been "modified" by our grandson!! Where the headset icon used to appear when I connected it, there is car. I cannot get this icon to disappear and there is no sound to be heard when I dial out nor when I receive a call. I get no ringing tone nor do I hear anything the person answering the phone, although they can hear me!
Secondly text messages on screen is now twice the size as usual!
I know this is an old phone but it serves me well.

Restoring Factory Settings on Nokia 2310 HELP?

I'm selling my nokia 2310 to someone I don't know very well, and would like ALL my settings returned to the factory settings before handing it over. I've manually deleted all my contact, call lists etc, but would like to know how to get everything back to the factory setting. The nokia manual isn't helpful at all.
I've tried turning off the phone, holding the call button, number 3 and the * key, while turning it back on, as someone suggested to me, but this didn't work. Just left me with twisted fingers!
Can someone please tell me how to restore the factory settings on the Nokia 2310 please?

you have cleaned it good enough. You need not worry about resetting it to factory settings.

I'd NOKIA 2310. I'm using this for the last 3 years. I'd never attached this fone with Computer.But now-a-days I'm having some strange problem.
When i switch on the mobile its automatically switch off and then on again. It Atuomatically Switch on and off again and again many times till it gets ON fully. someone told me that its software get corrupted you may need to flash out the software and re-install.
I need to know how to fix this problem? Is there any software available by Nokia to flash the software and re-install it? I already reset it factory default I also tried the 3 button reset but both does not work for me.

Download Ovi Suite on your pc and reinstall or update (if there's a newer firmware version for your phone) your firmware.

Dial pad isn't working, can only call people in my contacts

I have a blackberry style, 9670 and i can't dial using numbers the only number that works is 0. when i want to make an outgoing call i can only call people that are in my contacts. So in order for me to call someone who isn't in my contacts i need to add them to my contacts... which i don't exactly want to keep adding every number to my phone book, it's annoying... can someone please help me!!!!

Start with a battery pull. Remove your battery while your phone is powered on then replace it a few seconds later.

Is it possible to make video calling in nokia E5 ?
Some people say that, the rear camera can be used for video call.

if you choose a contact and you're offered the option to video call it will work (most Nokia phones from the last few years can make video calls over 3G) but using a mirror may not be the best of experiences ? You would at least see the person at the other end , it's not a feature I use personally but have tried it and it works fine as long as you have a decent 3G signal

Clock work abnormally in Nokia 2310

Im using Nokia 2310 V5.10. The problem is the clock is running slow and in 12 HRS it will slow by 1HR. Can anybody share some troubleshooting steps, as I tried switch off the mobile and removed the battery but still not solved.

Try as I might, I just cannot find the correct menu sequence to edit contact NAMES on this phone. I can edit the number but can't ascertain how to edit the name. Help!

It will be in a Browser on a Mac and involve a Video Plugin (most likely Flash).
GoogleTalk in browser also involves a Plugin.
It used to be Flash in the very beginning but then Google produced their Own - which at times has been known to clash with the Flash one
However Mac to Mac with Facebook will allow you to both use Messages.
Facebook's Chat ID is a Jabber ID and added as such (Other in Mavericks).
Google Talk is also a Jabber Server and Messages has a separate account option for that.
Messages can Video chat, Mac to Mac over either the AIM service (AIM and Apple Issued IDs) or over Jabber (those listed above or other Jabber server IDs)
What Messages cannot do is Video (or Audio) Chat to someone logged in via a Bowser to Google of Facebook or using a specific app (there was an GoogleTalk for PC app at one stage).
