V1.1 - cant import 40D .CR2 files

hullo,
so today i upgraded from my trusty 10D to the snazzy 40D. body is nice. snapping photos is fast. seeing them -- a nitemare.
every time i try to import: LR recognizes my device, shows me the thumbs, and tries to convert to DNG and import. fails every time -- "the files use an unsupported color mode", and it lists all my .CR2 files.
JPEGs work fine. ive tried multiple cards. looks like its a RAW2+LR thing.. yet i have the v1.1 update.
help?
thanks,
matt

Kate,
If you hadn't heard, the people responding are not employees of Adobe, they are people who care to try to help others that are having problems. It would seem that the wire brush approach of your message will tend to get less help [if possible to provide] than a reasoned and thoughtful question.
BTW, I have worked in large organizations and small organizations from 80 people up to 150,000 and as a member of management in the large org. I can tell you that large organizations are much slower to respond. Kind of like a rabbit can move much faster than an elephant.
If you are not happy with the help people are trying to provide for free, then you maybe should not bother with this forum. It clearly is raising your blood pressure and that is not healthy.
I would expect that we can expect an upgrade to 40D support before Thanksgiving [just my guess though]. In the meantime, I am going to follow the advice of the Luminous Landscape reviewer and shoot in RAW+JPEG [when my 40D arrives tomorrow] so I have the RAW on hand when the update occurs. It seems that the JPEG output is quite good and that may do in the interim.
Good luck
Mel

  • How do I import raw CR2 files from camera into LR5? I get an error message

I'm trying to import raw CR2 files from my camera into LR5. I get a message "Files appear to be unsupported or damaged." I know they are not damaged. Does LR5 support raw files? I can do this in Bridge and it converts them to dng files. This would be ideal for me if both could be done in LR5.

Not sure what the problem is if you say the files re recognized in Bridge? You could test the CR2 files by downloading the free Adobe DNG converter - latest version 8.6 (keep your CR2 originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)and then import the DNG’s. It’s an extra step but I use it all the time to batch process into final folders.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • New to Lightroom, problem importing raw CR2 files.

I am new to Lightroom and am having trouble importing my CR2 raw photo files. In the "import" section I select my SD card that contains the raw image files. All .jpeg files on the card show up as thumbnails but the CR2 files show "preview not available for this file." I select one of the CR2 thumbnails anyway, select a destination folder on my external hard drive and click "import." A window pops up that says, "this file is not recognized by the raw support format in Lightroom." I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and am working with a Windows Vista operating system (on an old, junky laptop). My camera is a Canon 70D and am shooting in RAW+JPEG. I also downloaded the Adobe .DNG converter 6.3 to try to convert the files before importing them into Lightroom and it is also not recognizing and importing my CR2 files. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

I would recommend downloading DNG Converter 8.2 which is compatible with Vista.
The latest version 8.6 requires W7 or W8

  • Canon 5D Mark II cannot import RAW .CR2 Files

For some reason I can no longer import my .CR2 files from my Canon 5D MarkII.  This is a new problem as I have had Aperture for some time now.  Is there a way to go back to an earlier RAW processor?  This latest one from May may be causing the issue...  Any guidance?

    DavidMarlow wrote:
Sorry, in Aperture it just comes up with a list of files that it could not import.
No error message or any information at all?
When I try to get them into iPhoto it says that they are an unsupported file.
I thought they were in iPhoto already.
I am trying to get the files from my laptop on iphoto to my imac on Aperture.  I am doing this via the network.  On once side I tried a direct iphoto import (did not work) and then tried to do it pointing at the actual CR2 files and that did not work.
You should just copy the iPhoto library over to the iMac and then run Aperture and import the iPhoto library. Doing this over the network is just making your life harder. Or else install Aperture on the laptop do the import there and copy the Aperture library over.

  • Lightroom 1.2 not importing RAW (CR2) files from 40D

Just upgraded to LR 1.2 and thought it would solve my problems but find that it doesnt appear to import CR2 files, either directly from a card reader or from a file already saved to the computer. It says files use an unsupported color mode. These were shot in RAW (not sRAW) + JPG and others were just RAW.
Do I need to change any setting in Lightroom to make it work with the new RAW settings?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ooops... Me bad. It works fine. For some reason 1.2 didnt install the first time I ran the installer. After finding that it was still 1.1, I ran the installer again and it took. Now its importing 40D files just fine.
    Sorry for the false alarm.

  • IPhoto 6.06 Will Not Import RAW CR2 files Taken Through an Uncoupled Lens

If I use adapters to couple my Canon 20D to a telescope (which is an electronically uncoupled lens and has no lens-related exif data), iPhoto freezes and will not import a RAW Canon CR2 file taken through any telescope. It imports such jpegs just fine, and Preview can open either. iPhoto, however, must be forced to quit under the Apple menu.
It doesn't matter where the RAW file is...in the camera, on the desktop, in a card reader, or on a CD.
This is an obvious bug in iPhoto.

Do you have access to an Apple store, or a friend
with Aperture? It would be interesting to see if
    Aperture has the same problem.
Not that it really matters, but a bug in both
iPhoto and Aperture is more likely to be fixed!
I don't know anybody who uses Aperture, and my nearest Apple Store is 120 miles away in Cincinnati.
I'm able to work around the problem since Canon's Digital Photo Professional, working with Canon's EOS Utilty, imports and processes these images just fine, as does Photoshop CS.
However, I miss the premise that iPhoto should be the central organizer and storage vessel for all of one's digital photos, making naming, finding, and backing them up a snap, even though a different program may be used for processsing them.
As an aside, Canon's download site warns that EOS Utility 1.1.1 will not work on Intel Macs; it does...with full functionality.
    Thanks for your response.

  • IPhoto hangs when attempting to import certain CR2 files

    Hi everyone.
After 3 months of owning and using my MacBook, I have finally found that iPhoto isn't a bad software at all, and I want to start using it. So of course the first thing I did was to import some recent photos I made.
By now I have successfully imported JPG and CR2 files from my external FAT32 HDD. But there are some CR2 files that make iPhoto hang: Actually not the whole application hangs, but only the import section (it is still possible to browse albums etc). clicking the "Stop" button won't change a thing, despite the text "stopping..." underneath the progress bar.
A friend of mine tried to import one of the regarding CR2 files, and it worked on his PowerBook G4 - same software versions.
Help. I don't know what to do. Been searching for a solution for days. Thanks in advance for every hint.
    MacBook 13"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPhoto 6.0.5 (316); Camera: Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT

Ah - sorry, it's hard to gauge what level of expertise people have and probably safer to underestimate than overestimate.
So any messages in Console when iPhoto hangs? Sometimes those are human-readable and offer clues.
What about opening the file using QuickTime? Does that work?
It's possible you ran into an actual bug, but it's hard to tell without the files. If you manage to isolate the exact files that cause the hang, you could try other things, like import them to a newly created library (option-launch iPhoto just in case you didn't know)
You could also dig through the EXIF data that Preview shows (Cmd-I) and see if those files have anything in common, like a bogus value for aperture or focal length or something. I know a friend complained about photos taken by the manual Lensbaby lenses, but I don't know if that has been addressed in recent updates.

  • Cant import my password file in my laptop (*.xml).

I have one computer with all password (x64). And now i want to get it into my laptop (x86).
In x64 computer i took " export password " in settings. So now i it is a *.xml file.
When i go into my laptop, so i cant find "import password" ?
    What should i do?

The "Export passwords" option is not a standard feature of Firefox. You probably have the Password Exporter extension installed on the computer that you exported the passwords on. If you install this extension on the other computer, you should be able to import the xml file.

  • Import Problem - CR2 Files

In the past I have been able to import CR2 files into Lightroom 3 by having the program convert to a dng and then import.
I can no longer import any files into LR3. The import seems to be happening and then a box comes up at the end stating "some import operations were not performed - the files could not be written." When this happens none of my files are imported into LR3.
I have not changed anything I am doing. This first started in the middle of an import where 7 of my 100 pictures were important and the rest could not be imported. Since then I have not been able to import any files.
I am running LR3 on a Mac and am up to date with the LR3 software updates.
    Suggestions?

Your Lightroom preference file may be corrupt. Try deleting it to see if that cures the problem. Details on where to find the preferences files are provided at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

  • LR4 Not importing all CR2 files?

Upgraded yesterday & noticed this phenomena. . . "preview Unavailable"
did some more shooting today and same thing.
when I downlaoded yesterday the images were not there, so I did a fresh import & it tells me there are no new images for import as I have 'don't import suspected duplicates ticked. I unticked this option and selectively imported the missing files - they came up but next to a duplicate thumbnail had that ? in the top right -
    so, what is going wrong??
    Thanx!

How are you importing your images, via a cable to the camera, from a card reader, or are you copying the images to a hard-drive outside of LR then importing using Copy, Move or Add?
The second situation can occur if you accidentally used Move instead of Add when you re-imported your images, so they changed places on your hard-drive, and the old version won’t be there, anymore, although they should be at their new place.

  • Camera Raw 4.4.1 still unable to preview Canon 40D CR2 files

Even after installing Camera Raw 4.4.1 plugin update as per installation instructions and purging central Cache...I am still unable to preview Canon 40D Raw (CR2) or Digital Negative (DNG) files on CS3 Bridge or Photoshop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Jeff..thanks for your helpful feedback. OS used is Vista. After recieving your suggestion I confirmed that I saved the plug-in to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats - and then rebooted the system. This seemed to resolve the problem and i can now preview raw file.
    Jeff, thanks again. Cheers, Doug

  • Cant import my abbu file

    Hello,
I reinstalled my Macbookpro (13 inch, spring 2009 model) with OS10.6 since Lion rendered lots of my software unusable. I have backuped my adressebook to a .abbu file from 10.7. Now, when I try to import the addresses to the 10.6 addressbook it starts to import and then hangs up. From then on, I can't even open the Address book. I have to delete the addressbook folder in the library/application support folder to get it back.
Any ideas of how I could get access to my addresses?
    Thanks
    Markus

Thanks, Alberto and Austin, for your tipps. Here is what finally worked (sort of):
unpack the abbu package as suggested
copy all the files to the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ folder
    install 10.7 over 10.6
open Addressbook: voila, at least the addresses where all there (puuh!), however, the pictures my wife had added to adorn the addresses are gone.
then I exported the addresses as VCF file, checked this time, that they can be reimported
Now I am installing 10.5 again, then 10.6 because the diskimages I did on the way dont work for restoring the system. Makes me wonder why I did them in the first place. They supposedly should be scanned for restore which gives an "internal error" directly after completion of the scan.
My apple skills clearly are rusty after 12 years of Windows use but I also must say, not too friendly if such things keep happening. After all, I was just following suggested procedures with backing up my abbu file nin the first place.

  • Cant import raw .MTS files

I am running on an Intel Mac with FCS2, and I am not able to import .MTS files. I have a Panasonic AVCHD camera that uses SD cards instead of a hard drive, so I grabbed the MTS files off of the SD cards throughout an entire week of filming. How do I import these into FCS2 now? I only have the MTS files on my external drive. I have Voltaire, but its too slow.
    Thanks

I think I might have answered my own question. The raw file that is brought in from Log and Transfer might be interlaced when you view it, however once I put it in my sequence and on the timeline, then exported the video, I choose to export at 1920x1030p30. When I view that, it looks perfect. Viewing the raw import file from either VoltaicHD, Log and Transfer, or Toast 9 all look pretty crappy before you convert and export as progressive in Final Cut. I'm happy with this, since my final video will obviously be exported through FCP anyways.
So I think I am all set now, but if any of this sounds incorrect, someone please feel free to jump in and correct me. I am new to the whole Mac scene and Final Cut, and video editing in general.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

  • Cant import video from files

I am trying to put a video into I tunes from the computer files. I tried what it sayds in the help section and nothing works. I cant find it no where into the Itunes library or files. Is there something that should be set so it will go into the Itunes or is this just a way for apple to make money.

    'i have downloaded iMovie 9.0.2
    Did you install iMovie?
Exactly what happens when you try to upload from your camera?  Did you read your cam user manual?
    Have you tried using iPhoto?
If you did not repair permissions and restarted your computer after installing iMovie, do so now.
