V1.2.1 found my problem - bad RAM!
FCP HD 4.5 QT 7.0.3 Compressor 1.2.1
Bad RAM in my G5 was my problem. I never had the "cannot connect to back ground process" problem just kernel panics message forcing shutdown.
I removed 2x1Gb sticks installed by Apple reseller, so far so good w/ factory 512MB. Importantly, although I hardly stressed the machine in 4 days nothing else crashed - only compressor even on 3min short QT self-contained movies. FCP HD editing for 3-4 hrs = fine, CS fine, Internet, mail, newsreaders etc all okay - just compressor seemed to allocate well into my faulty 2gb sticks.
After a doom & gloom weekend trying to get a client DVD done I am very much relieved my $2,200 purchase is now working and just wanted to post my experience.
I didn't really consider I had a hardware problem. PULL THAT RAM back to factory installed is a must check for unexplained crashes on G5...I knew that too but I took some convincing before removing RAM tonight!
**** I thought I'd never see the back of my trusty G4DP - I think it's earned its place to remain as back-up/server/disc burning machine
Okay, this is weird. I can get around this by setting the 'Select default path for scripts' preference to something other than blank!
I'm wondering if this is because a group policy sets the default homedrive / My Documents folder to something on a network share. Could it be that having this value blank is causing SQL Developer to poll this share, and therefore the network, causing the performance issue?
As it is, setting the value to something on the local drive (C:\) seems to fix it - contrary to what other posts have had to say on the matter of this preference!

Could Bad RAM Cause Video Problems in 1st Gen 24" iMac
I have been having video problems with my 1st Gen 24" iMac over the past 6 months, but recently the machine wouldn't turn on at all. I left it at my local Apple Store to be diagnosed and they said that it was just a bad stick of RAM (not a big deal, its cheap these days). But what I forgot to ask them was, could that bad RAM be causing the video problems I've been having or is it the video card also?
Thanks! Are you still having video problems since the ram was replaced? If the problem went away then it was the cause, it not then something else is.

Hello everyone, I have been experiencing random crashes on my Early 2011 i5 16GB MacBook Pro 13". At first I thought of a stability issue with mavericks (10.9.4), but after remembering something that I went through a couple, of years ago, I think it's different. Let me explain. A couple of years ago, I had installed 8 GB from a company called Transcend. After experiencing issues (I don't remember exactly what), I got my machine checked by apple, and they found the problem to be bad ram.
Now, I am experiencing crashes with Serato DJ (I can reproduce the crash every time), and a friend told me it could be bad ram. Given that I have had bad ram before, could my computer be making the ram modules go bad? What I find weird, is that I have done a clean install, and the issue persists, yet on my brothers i5 2.5GHz 2012 MBP, it seems impossible to get Serato DJ to crash.
I Currently have rember running, and I will post the results as soon as I get the chance. What I will also do, is reinstall the 4GB that shipped with my MBP to see if that resolves any issues.
Thanks a llot in advance, everyone, your help is very much appreciated.

How Can I Tell if I Have a Bad RAM Terminal?
A few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro started freezing several times a day, and it was to the point where I couldn't use it for even 10 minutes. It would also beep three times most of the time that it froze. So I turned it off for like 3 weeks and then took it in to the Genius Bar.
He ran some tests and said it was a RAM issue and I could buy new RAM chips (or whatever) and so I did, and when I installed two of them, my computer wouldn't start. I thought maybe the MHz was too big. I took one out, and the computer worked fine. For thirty minutes. Then BEEEEP beeeeeep BEEEEEP
I removed the one RAM and reseated it in the other terminal, and my computer has been working fine for most of the morning. I am running Chrome and playing youtube, Facebook, uploading pictures, and using iPhoto.
My MacBookPro came with 2 2GB RAMs (1333 MHz). The new RAMs are 2 4GB DDR3 OC3-10666 and compatible with 1333MHz and 1066MHz, according to the package.
The closest Apple store to me is more than an hour drive, and I'm wondering if there are any tests I can do at home. To me, an inexperienced computer repairwoman, it looks like I have a bad RAM terminal. Tonight I will reseat the RAM in the first terminal I tried, and see if it freezes and beeps again. It's possible that it was just seated incorrectly, perhaps?
Please send any and all advice, thoughts, questions, etc. Thank you!As John Galt says, not all RAM is created equal. Crucial.com or MacSales.com (OWC) are well respected Mac RAM vendors.
Rember
<https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15837/rember/>
is a wrapper around memtest.
Note: If you Mac refuses to run the app, you can force it by doing Control-Click -> Open, and then agreeing to the dialog box. Rember is an unsigned app, which is why the Mac may complain. The Control-Click -> Open trick is a way to force the Mac to run the unsigned app.
If you are having problems betting into a full Mac OS X GUI, then you might want to get memtest which can be run from the command line in Single-User mode (boot holding Command-S). If you have installed 'Rember' you can find a copy of 'memtest' buried inside
./Rember.app/Contents/Resources/memtest all
the ./ means you have to figure out the front part of the directory path to Rember.app where ever you stored it.
Here are some additional web sites, but keep in mind that 'Rember' is a wrapper for 'memtest' so when those sites discuss 'memtest', 'Rember' is essentially the same thing.

I ask because every time I did call they could not fix the problem, as in I could not send mail, I was told it was my Internet, then they tell me it is my computer. After spending many many hours on the phone with Apple, I was told I had to reload my hard drive. Which by the way takes a lot more then a few hours. The next day I found I still had the same problem. I could not send mail... I found the problem my self// I didn't have a mail box set up to send mail. How sample that was. Then the next time if I wanted to empty trash I had to turn off the computer then reset to do so. When I called tech support she tells me that is normal and they had to do the same thing every time. Well she is wrong in that if you use "empty securely" and not the one that just says empty trash then you do not have to reset or turn off your computer.... So I ask what am I paying $245.00 for? I am sure I will need support at some time, and at least it does give me someone to talk to.

I thank you all for all the replies..
I will be buying the service plan if only for the hardware... I really can not say much about the other support, other then every time I get a female support tech she seems to not know what she is talking about and says that is the way it works... I just keep calling back until I get someone that will know a little to help fix the problem. And yes I hate to say is most likely a male tech.
I do agree apple is NOT what they started out to be... How sad!!! MADE in CHINA very SAD. And here I thought I was buying USA.......
FYI - there has not been a name brand consumer personal computer actually manufactered in the USA in years. Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, Apple, Samsung,... - you name it they are ALL made in China or Tiawan. Often many of those brands are being assembled by the same Chinese company in the exact same factory, pulling parts (hard drives, displays, RAM, etc) from the exact same bins. Foxconn for example, which makes iPhones and iPads for Apple, also makes dozens of other makes and models of tablets, ereaders and smart phones for other companies. Like it or not, but the consumer electronic manufactering center of the world is China.
The only consumer computers actually made in the USA these days are by local custom build companies, and it has actually been that way for many years now (I think twinhead may have been one of the last with a plant in the USA - they are still around, now GammaTech, and they still do their "final assembly" in the USA but most of thier manufacturing is done in Tiawan and Malaysia).
By and large, the USA has been out of the actual consumer electronics manufacturing/assembly business for a decade or so now. -

DenI got it going.
This was the 10.2 download from OTN installing to MS Windows XP SP2.
Turns out that OUI won't start if the total length of the full directory path string is too long (to setup.exe or oui.exe). Solution was to move it closer to the base directory ("\") or to rename directories to make them shorter.

Is it bad RAM or a bad slot?
I have a dual G5 2.5GHz PowerMac. It came with two 256MB DIMMs installed in the two #1 slots (J11, J12). I bought two 1GB DIMMS and installed them in the two #2 slots (J13, J14). The brand and model of RAM I bought is Patriot PC3200 400MHz DDR DIMM's.
I keep getting Kernal Panics, especially with doing intensive video work. I disconnected everything but the basics and rebooted using the Hardware Test disc and ran the test with just the original 512MB RAM installed in the #1 slots. It passed with no problems.
I then installed the additional two 1GB DIMMS in the #2 slots and re-ran the hardware test. I got the following memory error:
2 MEM/104/4;DIMM2/J13
I then switched the two 1GB DIMMS with each other, put J13 in J14 and J14 in J13, and re-ran the hardware test. I got the exact same error as before.
This puzzled me. I would have thought that if the DIMM in J13 was bad that when I switched it to J14 it would give the error above but with the J14 designator.
Does this mean that I have two bad DIMMS or that slot J13 is bad? Where do I go from here? Will it hurt to pull the two 1GB DIMMS from the #2 slots (J13, J14) and put them in the #3 slots (J15, J16) to see if I get the same error when running the hardware test? If I get an error I would think the problem would be the RAM and if I didn't get the error I would think the problem is a bad slot (J13).
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Some people use to have to do that. Make sure it is seated and that the RAM slot is free of any obstruction or dust etc.
Boot into Open Firmware on the first boot can also help.
What if you try with just the 2x1GB in the first pair of slots?
Small variations in RAM and RAM timing can result in problems.
There are/were some very very long threads at various times about 'what RAM works' or not and what brands or vendors to avoid. Only a few (Micron, Samsung etc) produce RAM. Some buy on open bids (lowest bidder) and assemble RAM.
As long as you avoid buying from places that charge 15% "restocking fees" I would RMA this pair.
What does Apple System Profiler say for each slot?
You might want to pick up some Cruical/Micron or Samsung as a 'test' - I don't think having 4.5GB is "too much" or a waste
Memtest and Rember are a good enough test and can test all but about 80MB.
Once you start having k/p's then you run the risk of a 'dirty' file system or worse. MacIntouch has a good article, "Bad RAM" that I think everyone should read and be somewhat familiar with. -
2 problems! - RAM module broken & Snow Leopard not loading
Hi,
I have 2 problems:
I got Mac Mini (late 2009 model, 2,26ghz, 2gb) upgraded from 2GB to 4GB from this Apple Premium Reseller (http://www.stormfront.co.uk/). When I got it back and switched it on and immediately got 3 beeps which indicated bad ram or logic board. The y took it back and said they sent it to their workshop in Exeter and fixed it. When I switched it on I still got 3 beeps. Took it back to the shop they said don't what to do and get the workshop to ring me back on Monday. At this point I'm fuming!!! So I decided to take apart the Mac MIni myself. Upon discovery that one of the memory modules is broken, I bent the bit metal back and it seems to ok after hardware tests and is working now. What can I do about this? I honestly did not break this and know it was the shop but how I van prove this? What would be done about a replacement as I have no longer sold, would I get a discount on brand new mac mini?
As mentioned above that I took it apart I cant load up Snow Leopard, I just get the Apple logo plus the spinning wheel I can hear some hard drive activity but does nothing ( I left it for 20 mins). I then booted from the SNow Leopard and ran disk verify it came up with errors and said to format and restore, which I have done via Time Machine. But I still get the Apple plus spinning wheel. I know the hard rive ok now because I can boot into Windows via bootcamp. So what I should do?
Any help would be appreciated.it seems that it's not emptying trash for you. only emptying trash will actually free up space on the drive. what exactly happens when you empty trash? does it seem to empty?
click on the trash in the dock. is there anything inside? -
Bad RAM on PowerMac G5 - Interpreting POST
I have a problem with RAM DDR400 on a PowerMac G5 2x2 GHz (July 2004 model with 8 DIMM slots) equipped with 4 x 256 Mo and 2 x 512 Mo SDRAM all installed in pairs by the vendor .
Recently, after updating to OSX Tiger - 10.4.7 or 8 - I discover that the 4 x 256 Mo memory items are well recognized by OSX - according to "About this Mac" and "System Infos" - but not the 2 x 512 Mo SDRAM...!!! So, my G5 showed I only had 1 Go RAM instead of 2 Go. And I guess it used only 1 Go.
I tried everything from Tiger clean install to disk repair, PRAM reset, etc ... with no effect at all on the "missing" RAM's recognition by OSX.
Then I ran the "Apple Hardware Test" software (CD v.2.2.4). It shows - in red alert - the two 512 Mo DIMMs as "0-512 Mo" RAM (instead of 512 Mo fit) with one indicated as "failed POST". Then the quick test comments this failed DIMM5 (J42) with the following error message : "post/0/2048"...!!!
Did somebody knows what the Power-on Self Test (POST) "0/2048" error exactly means ??
Is there somewhere a kind of "list" referencing POST errors ?
Initially the 2 Go RAM were fully recognized by Panther 10.3.8 (cf. "System Infos") with the G5 firmware 5.1.8f2. However, when upgrading to Tiger (10.4.0), I also updated my G5 firmware with 5.1.8f7 (as recommended for June 2004 PowerMac G5).
Is it possible that the G5 firmware update "damaged" or "changed" something related to the RAM's access by OSX Tiger ?
Any help or suggestion will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

PowerMac G5 2x2 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.8)To maclover and DaddyPaycheck and all concerned readers
I successfully solved my problem of "disappeared" RAM memory (DDR400) on my PowerMac G5 2x2 GHz ( (July 2004 model with 8 DIMM slots). Mostly with help from two readers - namely MACLOVER and DADDYPAYCHECK who reacted quickly to my call for help, both with a very good advice. And I thank them for that. Because it's really helpful when you're faced with a serious problem never encountered before.
So, being now out of trouble I wrote this "debriefing" note to testify about the process of how to identify and solve the bug.
This could possibly help other "normal" Mac users... I mean non-expert like me.
1 - About the problem's "origin".
I discovered the "missing" RAM just by chance after looking at "About this Mac" and "System Infos" after updating my OSX Tiger system from 10.4.5 to 10.4.7 and 4.8. "About this Mac" mentioned only 1 Go of RAM (instead of 2 Go physically installed 2 years ago). The "System Infos - memory" panel" confirmed that only my four 256 Mo DIMMs were "recognized" and "active" (mentioning type, speed and "state" OK). My two 512 Mo RAM units have "disappeared" and the DIMM slots were identified as "empty"! This diagnosis has been confirmed by "Onyx" and Mac Pilot" utilities. So, it's trustable.
Then I ran the "Apple Hardware Test" software (CD v.2.2.4). The "Quick Test" immediately identified the problem. Its "Hardware Profile" panel showed the 4 x 256 Mo DIMMs as active with correct size/speed. But AHT displayed a "red alert" about the two 512 Mo DIMMs (seated into J41 and J42 slots) that were referred as "0-512 Mo" RAM (instead of straight 512 Mo) with one DIMM (J42) marked as "failed POST". The "Extended Test" provided additional data about the failing RAM with the error message (in red) : "post/0/2048/DIMM5/J42".
2 - No software nor system debugging
First, I suspected the OSX update to have changed something about the RAM's recognition by the System. So, I tried usual maintenance and correcting actions - repairing authorizations, restarting the Mac (even as single user), zapping the PRAM, etc. Then I reinstalled Tiger including a "clean install" from the Tiger DVD. Without any success... Because it has been later demonstrated that intrinsically this kind of "hardware bug" cannot be solved by software "manipulations"!
3 - Solution : Reinstalling the RAM
Thus I decided to turn to the RAM's direct check, as suggested by the two readers.
Initially, I was quite reluctant to put my hands on the memory hard because I never did it. But I found it rather easy to do. After reading the Apple knowledge base's memory replacement guideline ... and taking special care of static electricity (wearing a wire bracelet connected to the G5's case). This point is important as static electricity could definitely damage RAM memory cards.
So I removed the two 512 Mo DIMMs from their original slots and re-installed them into the adjacent pair of slots (in place of two 256 Mo DIMMs).
At the first restart under Tiger 10.4.8.. Bingo : "About this Mac" and "System Infos" panels displayed the expected "2 Go" of RAM. Both the RAM memory cards and the DIMMs slots are OK.
4 - The "Lessons" learned from this troubleshooting.
In conclusion, I would say that above-mentioned readers were right : in such case - "no show" RAM - the best option is to remove and inspect the DIMM and then - if cards and connectors looks good - to reinstall it correctly ... and carefully!
By the way, I would recommend to re-install the suspected DiMMs into a different pair of slots than the original ones. This "cross install" procedure allows to check the validity of both the RAM itself and the DIMM slots with only one manipulation. So there is no need to make another move for installing the RAM by size hierarchy. In my G5 bipro, RAM is now fitted (by pairs) in the DIMMs' rows 1 to 3 with a 256-512-256 Mo sequence and it works.
I would also strongly recommend to run the "Apple Hardware Test" (AHT) software to get a more detailed diagnosis. For example, AHT gave me the error message :"post/O/2048/DIMM5/J42".
While being unable to find a list of POST error codes, I can now try to "reasonably explain" this kind of error message I got. The "Power-on Self Test" (POST) item "0/2048" obviously refer to the RAM size : total "installed" RAM was 2048 Mo (2 Go). But the "0" prefix means that zero Mo were "recognized" (or "active") from some DIMM card(s). Then the "DIMM5/J42" item pointed out to the fifth DIMM (J42) that, in my case, was the "single failure point". But, of course, as RAM is working by pairs on the PowerMac G5 bipro. if just one DIMM "failed" the associated DIMM is also "neutralized" - even if it does not "failed".
Finally, this RAM trouble makes me more comfortable to do still "simple' - but sensitive - maintenance and repair inside my Mac... while being 65 with no special skill in computer's knowledge. So I would say everybody else can succeed too.
Again, many thanks to MacLover and DaddyPaycheck for quick help ...
and Christmas Greetings to all Apple Discussion readers.

Exception state ? Kernel Panic ? Bad RAM ?
Apologies for a long post including some raw panic.log info, but i've been experiencing crashes for well over a year now despite trying many fixes/repairs detailed in here in discussions. I'm flummoxed.
Hardware test checked out fine again today, I've run disk repair and Alsoft's DiskWarrior again and again, even Archive & Installed a few times over the past 2 years and yet the crashes keep coming, sometimes 10-20 a day. I use Photoshop alot, and sometimes it seems maybe the graphics card doesn't like the work I'm asking of it
graphic card spec (factory installed): ATI Radeon 9000 Pro:
Chipset Model: ATY,RV250

Sometimes I think it's bad RAM. I discovered today that the original Apple factoryinstalled memory sticks (512 Mb) appear to have different specs.
Their specs found via Hardware Test (unable to copy and paste so I've tried to best suss exactly what is an O and what is a zero)

I've pasted some recent panic log crash info below. It seems phrases like "Exception state" keep recurring. I'm not adept at code, so most of it is difficult to understand.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate!zapping PRAM is low risk. just involves keyboard combination and patience.
when I used OS9, Zapping PRAM and Rebuilding desktop was the defacto std of every time I had a big issue I attacked.
Changing out PRAM batteries is not hard either. a new 3.6v PRAM battery is about $5 + s/h... OWC has some great ones from Newer Tech that are very nice. I always pick up a few when I can. I have the nervous bad habit of buying parts I almost never use...
Sorry you dont have the applecare option. Before I bought my Dual G4 MDD I never ever paid extra for the applecare and never gave it much thought. always did everything myself through trial and error, read links on webpages, or bought stuff OEM and did servicing myself.
The 7 days my Dual G4 MDD was in for repair was the longest 1 week of my Mac life... I was forced even to use an old Win98Se computer for email and dialy internet activities.
Of course it floored me when I saw how much AppleCare did. Part of me was like...Was this NECESSARY? wasn't there something else to do other than just swapping parts out? But I guess those Techs knew better than me. so Basically they gave me a new replacement mobo, replaced the dual processor module, and replaced the video card. would of been $1411 out of my pocket. my wife and I were convinced if I didnt have the applecare I would of probably waited a bit and got an iMac G5 later on. But I LOVE MY G4 MDD TOWER Too Much. lol.
sorry to go off topic.
As for the rest, I dont know what to tell you. I wish you the best anyway. Try and Zapping PRAM, try to Reset the PMU switch, try to swap out the PRAM battery. Thats the cheap solution I can give.
There are people here who know a lot more than I. and given a little bit of time can give you some good advice. Don't give up on it yet.
good luck dude.

New iMac arrived today, turned on and loaded fine.
After getting to the desktop, I inserted the Snow Leopard disk and restarted the computer.
I held alt at startup and selected the Snow Leopard disc from the options.
The computer proceeded to give me the 'bad RAM' error: grey screen + 3 beeps, over and over.
So did I get an iMac with bad RAM? Poorly seated RAM?
Very frustrating, I'm disappointed Apple.Good luck: Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
Earlier versions of OS X, including the present retail version now sold, contain drivers incompatible with the firmware installed on new Macs. You will get the exact same error code you are observing.
I'm having a hard time believing it is a RAM problem if the computer works fine in OS Lion but gives the error when installing Snow Leopard.
This has nothing to do with memory. If you don't believe me run Apple Hardware Test and see for yourself.
If AHT passes and your iMac boots Lion, Apple will tell you to pound sand.
As I said earlier,
A new iMac should have shipped with Lion. Attempting to install an earlier OS version will not work. -
Can bad ram kill your firewire card
i recently installed bad ram in my eMac
it was a 512 module given to me by my boss, we use macs at work so i figured it was safe. it was the right speed for my mac and it seemed great!
well, I installed and everything was going awesome. Until all of my pictures dissipeared out of iPhoto. they were still on the HD but vanished from the program. so I ran the hardware test and bad ram. I replaced it with the old ram and everything was fine, until I tried to dump some footage into iMovie.
Now iMovie will not reconize my camera and i am scared as i use this program the most. could this ram have killed my firewire card?
Please HelpIt sounds to me as though your problem goes beyond bad RAM. While a faulty RAM module may cause issues, they are generally performance issues. Disappearing photos sounds like a hard disk (or other) problem. Did Apple Hardware Test uncover any other issues? If there was something wrong with your FireWire inputs, Hardware Test should indicate so.
Try deleting your iMove preferences file (User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist). Log out and back in again; open iMove and try to reconnect your camera. Also, check with your camera's manufacturer to be sure that there are no firmware or driver updates for your model.
Report back, and we can take it from there.

I found my problem! :(
so i found the problem with my ipod. after trying EVERYTHING i could, including everything on this site, and on http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/articles/iPodSupport.shtml whitch i strongly recomend you try, i decided "hey, i fixed my laptop by takeing apart the h-d, and as it turns out the arm was loose. well, i did the same to this ipod, and it was horrible. the arm must have somehow gotten bent, because the disk was completely scratched. it was pretty bad. now the question is, does anyone know where i can buy a 4g 20-40 gb hd? for less then the price of repair or a new one? any help would be awesome. andi doubt this is the same problem you all ahve had, this on was dropped on a hard bed from a high place. didnt think bed would do anything bad, but i was wrong. anyhow, anywhere to get a hard drive would be nice. thanks

Random shutdowns/related to bad RAM? pls help
my 3 week old macbook was randomly shutting down all day yesterday. apple agreed to replace it. i just put the original RAM back in the macbook to prepare it for shipment back to Apple. i've had it on for a bit now and it has yet to randomly shutdown.
Is it possible that the RAM i bought from newegg is defective and that was the problem? what are symptoms of bad ram?
thxthanks all. early this morning after i posted this i re-installed the newegg ram. ran the memtest. it took alot longer with 2gb to finish the test but it came out fine. i got up just now. the macbood was asleep. i lifted the screen and have been running alot of programs to see if it will shut down. it is working great.
so maybe the newegg ram was seeded wrong? maybe some kind of bump or something knocked it slightly out of place? I've had the newegg ram installed for the last 3 weeks and had no problems before so i cant understand why it would just stop working.
is there any was else i can test to see if this ram is working like 2gb should work?
anyone think it is highly probable that i do not have the random shutdown problem? -
Early 2008 Macbook Pro - Bad RAM or Bad Slot(s)?
Firstly, allow me to apologize for any formatting errors on this post; I'm putting it together from my phone. I comprised a collection of photos and screen shots to aid in my plea, but I can't find a way to upload them from here. So I'll do my best to explain things colorfully. :)
Specs:
Early 2008 15" Macbook Pro
Model #: A1260
OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.Something.
Recently upgraded hard drive from stock 250GB to Seagate Momentus 500 GB.
Strange, multicolored split-second glitches have occurred three times the past two days.
This morning, my computer booted to the gray screen, as normal. Apple logo and spinning logo appeared.
Here's the issue: there is a vertical gray strip going straight through the middle of the monitor that cuts through part of the apple and half of the spinning wheel.
System stays on that screen for a few seconds, then reboots. Every time. Resetting PRAM/NVAM does nothing.
The RAM is stock. I've done the following:
RAM stick A in bottom slot - 3 beeps and no start-up.
RAM stick A in top slot - gray screen, apple & rotating logos, vertical gray line, restarts.
RAM stick B in bottom slot - 3 beeps and no start-up.
RAM stick B in top slot - gray screen, apple & rotating logos, vertical gray line, restarts.
Bad RAM or bad slots?
Thank you!
JSIT LIVES!!!!!!
I reset the PRAM & SMC a few times. It froze on this screen when the progress bar got about halfway.
Then this... I left it on this screen for a while, then restarted. AND IT BOOTED LIKE NORMAL!
