V10.7 Lion - Windows constantly change to an inactive/background window.

Every window: finder, safari, iCal, etc... automatically transitions to an inactive window after about 1-2" for no apparent reason. This prevents me from being able to type anything but a letter or two at a time before I need to click on the window again to make it the active window so my keyboard inputs will take effect.  Only object it does not seem to apply to is Quicksilver.  Ideas?  Already checked other input devices and turned them off, as well as reboots.

If you look at Qicksilver/Preferences/Extras you'll see that there's an option to Hide other applications when switching. If this is checked then unchecking it should sort out the Quicksilver problem.
I've now got Mission Control working as it should. I used to use an application iClip in SL and it wouldn't work in Lion, in fact I find it has been discontinued. There was no sign of it anywhere. However when I had a look at the list of Login Items for me in Preferences/Users & Groups it was shown there! I used the '-' below the list to remove it. I had also tried out Google Desktop but had stopped using it but there was an entry for this in that list too. There was also an entry in Preferences, under Other, and I uninstalled it there. I don't know which of these was causing the problem but it does seem to have sorted things out.
I suggest that those who are still having problems with MC should have a look at these Login Items against their username in Preferences/User & Groups in case there's something shown there that might be causing their problem.

  • Photoshop CS5 constantly changing my cursor

Photoshop CS5 is constantly changing my standard Windows cursor from a normal arrow to a very big arrow. This is really driving me nuts, because I have to change that over and over again. No other program does this. BTW. I`m also using an Intuos 2, if that can have anything to do with it. I`m using Win7 64bit Ultimate.

I've just started having this problem today. The cursor is fine when starting up my computer and using it, but as soon as I use Photoshop, the cursor becomes enlarged. Furthermore, I can't use any of the tools in Photoshop, it's stuck on paint brush! I can click on any of the tools in the toolbox (say, selection box), but the cursor still shows as a paint brush, and it will paint a brush stroke when I drag (mouse or tablet). Quitting Photoshop and the large cursor problem persists until I restart the computer. I can't get any work done until I find a solution.

There is a option on Windows 7 Mouse properties called Allow Themes to
change mouse pointers. That may effect the intous/photoshop.
Actually, this seems to have fixed the problem. No idea why it was suddenly causing a problem though, Photoshop CS5 has been working well for months. It's under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse > Pointers > Allow themes to change mouse pointers (turn off).

  • Portlet window size changes in Webcenter

We have a custom portlet that is deployed in Webcenter in AviTrust using the Application Page Template. As we step through the screens in the portlet, the width of portlet window changes. The portlet content itself is in a div and does not specify a specific pixel width.
I'm fairly new to this but the way I understand the DIV tag, the width of the DIV tag is determined by the enclosing container. This would imply that the width of the Webcenter containers enclosing the portlet content is not fixed.
I know one can fix the size fluctuation by setting the size of the portlet after it is added to a page. Is there any other way to stop the size change without actually specifying a fixed width in pixels?
Much appreciated if anyone could comment on this behaviour in Webcenter so I can be sure of the possible fixes for this issue!
    Thanks heaps.

    Thanks.
I dont like full screen mode, I prefer to keep the window at a size which is comfortabe for me to work.
From what you have said, it seems as if I cant prevent the main window from constantly changing size each tyime I select fit to screen.
I am baffled, because I have been using Phtotoshop CS4 with a window size setting which stays the same regardless of how I zoom the image/canvas. Odd isn't it?

  • Track Info Constantly Changing

I go through all my song / album information in iTunes (Windows 7), right mouse click on the track and/or album and click the Edit Info that appears in the pop up menu.  I spend a lot of time going through to organize my track listing information so I can find the information in my iPod Classic.  After a couple days (sometimes a week or two, sometimes a day or two), all of this information that I edited is gone in iTunes.  It is reset to the original information from when I purchased the items and all of my customization is gone, requiring me to go back and do it all over again.
Why does this keep happening?  I saw on some web searches that it was Windows Media Player updating the track information, but I have everything turned off in Windows Media Player and have no library setup for Media Player to manage but yet, iTunes is still constantly changing.
What else could be doing this and how do I stop it?
    Any help is appreciated

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.

I have just changed over from a computer that was 11 years old, running Windows 98, to a new computer running Windows XP. With my old computer I could easily download video clips, they would open and play as soon as the download had ended. Now I have to click on the download box and click on "Play". Also, when I wanted to keep a clip, I just right clicked and a menu appeared and I would then click on "Save as" or similar. Now there doesn't appear to be any way to save the clips. Apart from a faster and more powerful computer I feel I've gone backwards. Can anyone help?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • How to change fonts in the Finder window

How does one change change fonts in the Finder Window?
I've done it before and I know it's different in the Side Bar and for the fonts in Column View or List View.
It doesn't seem to be in Finder Preferences.
I can't find in in System Preferences.
    It's not in Font Book.
    Where is it???
    TIA

If you click the Action Gear you have the option to change font sizes. I am not sure if changing the font per se is possible without a system hack which I do not recommend.

  • I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes

I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes, and Itunes can't find my Ipad. [email protected]

Ok, if reinstalling iTunes as suggested above does not resolve the issue of iTunes recognising the iPad then try this -
Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, make sure your lead /connections are no faulty.
Fourthly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
As for making your new laptop your 'home computer' follow these instructions -
    1. Without connecting your iPad to your computer -
    A) Install iTunes / make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed.
    B) Go to the Store tab and click on "Authorise This Computer".
    C) Go to Edit, click on Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and click on Devices. Put a check mark in the box next to "Prevent  iPods/iPhones/iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK and close iTunes.
    2.  Connect your iPad to your computer -
    A) Start iTunes (it will not start automatically because of the action at 1(C) above).
    B) Right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select "Transfer purchases".
    C) When the transfer has completed, right click on your iPad again and select "Backup".
    D) When the backup has completed, left click on your iPad, click on the Apps tab, and put a check mark in the box next to "Sync Apps", and then click on "Apply" (bottom right).
    E) Unless you want to always do a manual sync (as I do), go back to Edit, Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and uncheck the box next to "Prevent your iPod.....".
    F) Finally, on your iPad, check that everything is syncing properly. If not, go back to iTunes and check all settings.
NB You should not lose any apps. However, any 'purchased' missing apps can be downloaded again FOC. As with updates, this must be done with the Apple ID under which they were originally 'purchased'.

  • Satellite C875 : Windows reverting changes after update to Windows 8.1

For days now with no success, I have been trying to update from Windows 8 (64 bits) to Windows 8.1 a Satellite C875-153 (PSCBCE-03H002FR)
I am opening a new thread as none of the available threads on this forum have helped me nor my researched on the web.
*1st error* - which I was able to "sort of" figure out is:
    -> *Windows 8.1 update fails with error message 0xC1900101 - 0x30018*
I have followed every steps, in the proper order, of this Toshiba guide, but it didn't help fixing the error:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/
I then followed recommendation from this thread and was "temporaly" able to update OS to Win 8.1:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=296594
The step that worked for me was to remove network cable while installing windows 8.1 as suggested by user "RandyRoberts".
    *2nd error:*
*-> Windows 8.1 hangs and system tried to revert changes back to Windows 8*
By unplugging the network cable, I was able to complete the update of Windows 8.1 and run it temporaly.
As soon as I replug the network cable and reconnect to the web, the computer hangs and restarts.
I suppose Windows 8.1 is trying to check the licence status and then refuse to activate it.
Windows ends up trying to revert changes and go back to Windows 8.
It hangs at restart and refuses to reload previous OS (Windows 8), leaving me on a screen with couple options. At this point I can only recover the factory image to be able to restart the system.
These steps have been performed on a freshly reinstalled OS with no additionnal softwares.
All updates and steps have been followed and recheck several times. I am runnning last BIOS available.
I have already saved all my data and burned the recovery disks .
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

    Hi GROM
I guess you found and read also this thread:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=74631
the user harrie_1 were able to update to the Win 8.1 and the update procedure went smoothly.
I dont know exactly why this workaround did not function in your case but I would recommend you to start the procedure once again and follow the update as described by harrie_1 user

  • [8.1 pro update1] Windows KEEPS changing and reinstalling keyboard layouts regardsless of IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout

Windows 8.1 is driving me nuts beyond believe once again. I have 8.1 Pro update 1 English, installed from the VLK iso from our Volume License / SPLA account. As we are a Dutch company, the Location is set to The Netherlands, as well as the date/time format.
Therefore in my keyboard settings the language is Dutch (NL) but I set my keyboard layout to US, as below:
As you can see there are no other languages our installed. This worked for years with Windows 7 and before with XP. Windows 8.1 however KEEPS changing my keyboard layout to plain Dutch making my keyboard unusable. The language bar in the systemtray, or whatever
it's called in this OS, shows THREE layouts, which are actually 'selectable' and work as if they were installed. However, they are not 'really' installed, as per the screenshots above.
This is driving me completely mad. Why on earth is Windows making descisions for me which I should be making myself? In addition, in my oppinion Windows should NEVER change somthing as trivial as a keyboard layout by itself. People don't change switch keyboard
even when logging on to a remote system that has a different layout configured. Whoever came up with this 'automatic switching per application' idea once again had no clue of real-life usage at all.
I've added those two languages I do NOT want to my keyboard layouts and removed them. Sure they are gone then, and as only language NLD with layout US is left, the language bar in systray is gone as well. After a few days all three are back, and my keyboard
    is producing wrong characters again.
I've tried with regvalue HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout set to 1, to no avail at all. It just keeps changing. This should help to prevent my keyboard when changing when I RDP to one of my servers.
The advanced settings in Language don't help either:
'let me set a different input language for each app window' is unticked.
Override for default keyboard is now set to Dutch - US, like I want it. Doesn't help either.
I cannot reproduce it on demand, settings do NOT change when connecting to my RDP server(s). They do NOT change when I open any of my used programs, being IE, Chrome, CMD.exe, notepad and a few others. It shouldn't either as I disabled the 'keep settings
    per application'.
I have changed the keyboard shortcut from alt-shift or whatever it was to 'none'.
How to prevent Windows 8.1 completely from changing the keyboard layout I use? Is there any way to check WHY or WHAT actually changes my keyboard?

This might be really late to this post but I've been having this issue while playing games, particularly those which are complex enough to require Control, Alt, Shift. At first like some people here suggested
Windows Key + Space was the cause, but even after removing all alternate layouts (for reference, I want the UK layout, but it was switching to the US Layout) it was persisting.
This post pointed me in the right direction, go into your Language Options
    > Change Override (Advanced). At this stage I've noticed there is the Switching input methods section, look for
Change language bar hot keys and here I fount Alt + Shift
was being used for switching Between input languages - a key combo I'd probably hit quite often just purely by accident. You can change the key sequence to no binds.
I haven't fully tested it, but it appears to be working for now - and I hope its an extra option for people to look at if they're running into this issue.

  • In lion how to change wep password

In lion, i cannot change the wep password. I tried to use the network utility, but for some reason, in advanced, selecting the network name does not bring up the edit icon. I can only add of delete the name. Deleting the name does not delete the old passcode. If i try to join the network again, the old passcode is remembered. I tried to delete this code within the keychain, but this did not make my brandnew macbook pro forget the passcode.

It was because the password was typed incorrect. I reset to default and all is well. Thanks for the response.

  • Wallpaper not showing up in "Change Desktop Background" window

I just noticed an odd issue today on my Mac Pro. When browsing the built-in wallpaper folders (Nature, Plants, etc) in the Change Desktop Background window they are empty. My "Pictures Folder" one shows all the images correctly as well as browsing the ones from iPhoto. (I also have Aperture 2.1.2 installed but no projects yet so that part is empty.)
I performed a permissions repair, checked that the actual files were there in /Library and removed the com.apple.desktop.plist pref's file. After doing that all the pictures showed up again UNTIL I browsed around the picture folders in the Change Desktop Background window then they stopped showing again.
Could something in my Pictures Folder be causing the issue? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Jim

Thanks for clarifying. I don't do right or left click, but occasionally do CONTROL-click and doing that brings up the contextual menu item "change desktop background" which leads to the Desktop prefPane. Now, why you're having issues, I have no idea. However, I suggest creating a new admin user account, logging into it, and seeing if changing the desktop picture works there.

I just purchased the Mac Mini Server with the intention of replacing Lion Server with Lion for the first hard drive while installing Windows 7 thru Bootcamp on the second hard drive. Is it possible for me to do this? Thanks.

I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.
