V11 business rules

Hi,
q1. There is a new tool for business rules called "Calculation Manager" in v11 and as far as i understood aas will not be applicable for business rules??
I got that idea because i can not see any planning locations in aas, only essbase locations are available. Is it a problem or do we really have to use calculation manager?
q2. In calculation manager, validate works fine when i don't use prompts but when i use prompts, altought it returns an error saying "'Error:Validation against Planning outline succeeded.
Failed to validate against Essbase. One or more unresolved RTPs found: [RP_Currency, RP_Scenario, RP_Entity, RP_Year] ..." i can still deploy it and it works fine.. Is it a bug or is there a way to handle it??

Hello everyone,
I have got the same message when validating a business rule against Planning in Calculation Manager.
"Failed to validate against Essbase. One or more unresolved RTPs found: [Scenario] on Rule App.Plan1.BR70 Copy Scenario'"
I did not get this message before. The rule is also working fine.
Another odd thing: yesterday, I had the phenomenon that I could not select a value for the variable. Today it's working fine again without having anything changed. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi,
Any time I have had trouble associating outlines with Business Rules with Essbase/Planning, it has been down to either :
1. Services not started in correct order
2. Security / Shared Services not in sync.
Your exact message doesn't look to familiar, but I would still check the above, in particular check that you have synched EAS with Shared Services. Eg Refresh Security , and also under business rules refresh user list.
One recent thing I saw with v11.1.1 is that we couldn't properly associate the BR with Essbase/Planning when logged in as admin, but could when using another Shared Services user, with the appropriate provisioning. I have not had a chance to investigated why.

CalcMgrCmdLineLauncher - Running multiple business rules v11.1.2.2.2

Hi,
I'm trying to automate the process of running multiple business rules.
I have a batch script that execute the following code:
CalcMgrCmdLineLauncher.cmd -f:%PasswordFile% /A:TopRight /U:hyp_admin /D:TopRight /R:TrnAgg /F:D:\Scripts\TopRight-BusinessRules\Budget.xml

CalcMgrCmdLineLauncher.cmd -f:%PasswordFile% /A:TopRight /U:hyp_admin /D:TopRight /R:TrnAgg /F:D:\Scripts\TopRight-BusinessRules\Budget.xml
It will execute the first line successfully, Ii.e. run 'TrnAgg' with the rtp file 'budget.xml'). However, the window closes before it pauses or attempts to execute the second line.
Does anyone know how i can make it return from the first line, rather than closing the window, and then continue with the rest of the script?
I know I can use a ruleset, however they take the default prompt values and i'd like to pass in different RTPs.

Planning -v11.1.1.1 - Cannot Communicate with Business Rules

Hi,
We are unable to log into Business Rules no matter how many times we recreate users and properly provision them. I found this in the 11.1.1.1 Installation and Configuration Guide but have no idea of where or how to make this change.
Planning
• After you manually deploy Planning, Business Rules does not communicate with Planning. To work around this issue, add the following Java Options:
-DESS_ES_HOME=/hyperion/products/Essbase/eas/server -Dhyperion.home=/hyperion -DHYPERION_HOME=/Hyperion [8622082]
Where exactly would we do this and could it possibly help?

Issue is with SSH the SSH ware running in two sys and conflict issue.
Restored the Open DAP and suggested the client to re start the Service and server ones.
Client can successfully able to log to EAS and to BR now.
Couple of BR access issue is resolved by provision and Refresh of Manage database.

Error connecting to Essbase Server when running business rules

We recently migrated from v9.3 to v11.1.1.3. I have two users with Administrative access who need to run business rules on a native Essbase application, but cannot. They get the message 'Error connecting to Essbase Server'. They get this message when trying to set this execution database. They can't even expand the server to see the list of applications. I have tried deprovisioning them in Shared Services, refreshing security, then adding it all back in and refreshing again, but it doesn't work. My own id has identical access to that which I'm granting them, and I have no problems. I even created a native user with the same access and it works as well. No matter what I do, I cannot get these two users to be able to run their business rules in EAS.
We also have a Planning application, and the Planning Administrative user has the same issue. However, this user is able to get around it by running rules using the Planning connection rather than the Essbase connection. She has the same issue of not seeing anything under the Essbase Servers when trying to set the execution database though.
In version 9, we were not using Shared Services for Essbase security. Unfortunately our consultant chose to set it up using Shared Services security when migrating, and according to the documentation, one cannot go back to using Native Essbase security.
I also tried running the Externalize Users wizard and the three users with issues failed to externalize. My own id did, and the native user I created succeeded.
Has anyone experienced an issue like this or have any ideas on how to resolve?

Follow up - Oracle has finally resolved this. It's so simple, yet no one thought to check until now. The three users with problems all have mixed case user id's in ldap. They have always logged into EAS with all lower case ids. In version 9, on native security, this was never a problem. But in version 11 using Shared Services (not sure which factor changed it), it doesn't work. The simple solution is to log in with their exact mixed case user ids. It only took Oracle three months and the creation of a bug issue to figure this out for us.

Business Rules Visible in EAS

We migrated one business rule from Staging to Production environment but when trying to see these business rules in EAS, they are all disappeared.

Please tell me what version of EPM you are using?
What kind of Planning application you are using (EPMA or classic)?
Have you used "For Calc Mngr" option to export rules from Staging environment (for V11)?

Business Rules are disappearing from forms in Hyperion Planning v 11.1.1.3

We are using Calculation Manager to create business rules in a planning v 11.1.1.3 application using EPMA, web logic and SQL Server. We have had several instances where business rules that were attached to forms suddenly would disappear. The form still is aware that there is an attached rule, because the application and database name appears in the Business Rules section of the form. However, all of the business rules in the application are no longer visible (i.e. the rule names are blank). The only way we have found to correct the problem is to make a copy of the rules in Calculation Manager and then redeploy the rules and re-attach them to the forms. The old rules still show up with blank descriptions. This has happened at two different locations and seems to corresond with application deployment, although intermittent. Any help would be appreciated.

If I understand what you're saying, I had the same or similar thing happen to me recently with v11.1.1.3, only I'm using classic Business Rules. I don't know why the problem occurs, although I think the root cause is probably related to inter-server communications, not to the corruption or loss of metadata. It happened to me in the target environment when I exported the rules from one environment and imported them into another.
When I encountered the problem, I opened and then saved (without changing anything) the business rule cluster I use for managing access rights. That resolved the problem, my guess is by giving the application servers enough of a kick in the pants to start talking to one another again.
I don't know whether this helps any, but I just thought I'd let you know you're not the only one who has seen this problem.

Business Rules Only Visible in One of the Two Planning Webs

Hi all.
I have this issue with a classic Planning application deployed to run with the calculation module to Business Rules in v11.1.2.1. I have also load balanced EAS/APS and Planning servers but when I log into Hyperion Planning in one of the server and I check the available BR I can see them but if I go into the other Planning web I cannot. This is logging straight into the Planning Webs using the different servers names. Inside EAS I have done the necessary location, provisioning and cluster to be able to appear in both Planning webs but still not working.
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Business Rules Project Takes Too Long to Open

Does anyone know why it takes too long (~3-5 minutes) to open/edit a security project definded for assigning business rules to planning application forms? We are using Hyperion v11.1.1.3.0. Essbase is on Windows server, Shared Services on Solaris 10 Unix. Even before we migrated Essbase to Windows to gain better performance running calcs, opening projects using EAS has always been very slow to open. Please advice if there is a way to improve performance on this.

Migrate Business Rules from 9.x to 11.x

I am trying to migrate business rules from 9.21 to V11.1.1.3
I used to export the rules, then edit the XML for the correct server and location names, then import into the target server-all with 9.21
Now when I try the same process, I get this error when importing into V11.1.13
Detail:Error while importing object properties.

I can use the migrate repository option just fine, but then I have to go in with a SQL script and update the location and server names in the relational tables. I prefer the export/import since I can do that without impacting users.
Any ideas on how to import the rules and resolve this error?

In EAS go to export, select the rules, make sure "for calc mgr" is ticked.
Import the rules into calc manager.

Running Business Rules on Composite Forms

Hi,
I'm using Planning v11.1.2, and I am trying to get a business rule to run from a Composite web form. The version and entity are the only prompts in the business rule, and they are shared globally on the component forms. If I put the business rule on the component forms, it doesn't even make an attempt to run on save. If I put it on the composite form, it attempts to run, but fails ("An error occurred while processing this page. Check the log for details."
Shouldn't business rules be able to run from composite forms? If not, why is the option to put them in there? If so, does anyone have any insight into this problem?

Thanks John, but unfortunately, neither one of those is my issue. The first says I can't have the business rule on the base form if I have it on the composite form. The rule is not on the base form, and it still won't run on the composite form. The second one I don't understand at all. The symptom "Business Rules are not running with composite data forms when the 'Run on Save' option is checked". The cause "The Business Rule is not running when it is run from a base form." Huh? This is a cause? The solution: "You need to attach the Business Rule to the composite form, not just the base form." This would seem to indicate that I have to have the rule on both the base form and the composite form. It doesn't work no matter which way I set it up.
Furthermore, in testing to see what's going on, I tried taking off the hide prompt option, and the rule does not appear to be taking the entity from the page member on the form (it just displays the last entity chosen).

Editing Business Rules

Hi All,
I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.1.0 and have a classic planning application.
I created a few business rules using the Essbase Administrative Services Console.
Now I need to let one of the users modify certain values used in the buisness rule. One way is to allow the user to access EAS Console and then edit the rule.
However for a business user its not a very ideal way of editing the rules.
Can somebody please suggest if at all there is some other way by which the user can modify the business rule without getting into much of a coding thing and out of EAS Console?

Hi,
If you are using classic planning and in the first release of planning the only way to edit business rules is via EAS.
I wouldn't really expect standard business users to be editing business rules, maybe the occasional user who has knowledge of business rules.
Does the user really need to update code? Are run time prompts not enough. Should it not be a superuser or admin making these changes.
In later versions of V11 there is also calc manager for classic planning though I am not a fan of this yet and feel it has a long way to go.

Business Rule Log

Error when validating a business rule helfpully suggests checking the log for more details. I have looked around but cannot find the Business rule log. Any ideas where I should look?

Query in Essbase/EAS Business rule

How can I assign an Account member which is of type Text in BRs?
Ex: If I have account member 'TrueorFalse' with SmartList 'TrueorFalseList' associated to it.
SmartList has entries (True, 1) and (False, 2) besides the default entries.
In business rule
TrueorFalse = 1 is working but TrueorFalse = "True" or TrueorFalse = @member("True") is not working.
Can anybody help?

I think that there are separate security roles that determine access to Business Rules, it shouldn't just be because you have given them administrator access to the Planning app.
Take a look at the Shared Services User and Role Security Guide (link to v11.1.2 doc attached)

There is further security possible in Business Rules via EAS so if you assign the user a role less than administrator you should be able to restrict there access to specific rules.
