V20z LSI raid problems

Hi All,
We have a v20z which had a mirrored array configured. One disk failed and now we are having problems installing a replacement. The LSI BIOS gives an incompatible partition error when we try to set the disk from the original array as the primary..
Help please...
Thanks
Sidney

vcwise-zach,
I apologize for the issues you are having running VMware. You are seeing this problem because VMware does not support on-board RAID..  VMware states in their documentation that if you require a RAID setup, that you must use a discreet / hardware RAID controller from LSI or Adaptec, etc.
There is a post in the VMware community regarding this as well as documentation from VMware itself which states which hardware is required if you choose to use VMware in a RAID configuration.

  • TD340 LSI RAID slots 4-7 error

We are setting up a new ThinkServer TD340 (70B7-002RUX) for a client and are running into a major issue with the Drive bays.  Were using the internal LSI raid 300 with 4x 2TB drives and 2x 1TB drives.  the problem is ports 4-7 (the second SAS cable connection) will not recognize the drives.  I have taken the cages out of the server, checked the distribution backpanes, switched cables and drives, but nothing resolves it.  No matter what cables, backpane, or drives i try it is always ports 4-7 that have a problem.  Everything will work on 0-3, but not on the 4-7.
The backpanes is a GC-BAT4 REV:1.0 (FRU03T8868), but i cannot find any real info on them.  For witchever backpane/bay is connected to the 2nd sas port on the board (4-7) the Disk Status LEDs are different then 0-3.
    When powered on (before POST) 0-3 Green-OFF Amber-OFF  4-7 Green-ON Amber-OFF
    When powered on (After POST)  0-3 Green-ON Amber-OFF/Blink  4-7 Green-Rapid Blink Amber-Blink
Has anyone ran into this before?  or know of a manual for the backpanes? (there is a jumper on them, but no idea what it does)

    Hello,
Just to confirm you are using the Mini-SAS connections for the connections to both backplanes? There are 4 SATA connectors that are for the RAID 100 (Intel) onboard controller, and the two Mini-SAS connectors support up to 8 HDD's for the LSI RAID 300 onboard adapter. If this is connected properly and you're still having the issue you may need to open a support ticket to have service look into it for you...it could be a defective backplane, but it's hard to say for certain without knowing the cabling configuration.

  • Tiered Storage Spaces with LSI RAID Controller 9260-8i (no JBOD) - Performance Drop

    Hello
    I have a Lab-Server with a LSI-Raid-Controller 9260-8i and 2x 256GB SSDs / 6x 600GB HDDs. First I configured the LSI-Raid-Controller with a RAID 1 (2x 600GB HDD) and installed
Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V Role on this RAID 1. This works just fine. Then I configured the LSI-Raid-Controller with additional 6x "Raid 0 Drive Groups" where each Drive Group has one single physical drive
in it. And then I created 6 virtual drives out of these 6 Drive Groups. So far so good: my Windows Server 2012 R2 now sees 6 new Harddrives (4x 600GB HDD and 2x 256GB SSD). I then created a Storage Pool out of these 6 drives (with PowerShell /
assign MediaType SSD/HDD) and on top of the Storage Pool a "Tiered Storage Space" with Mirror Layout (2x 256GB SSDs mirrored and 2x2x 600GBs  HDD mirrored). This gives me a Tiered Storage Space of about 1.3TB. On this Storage
Space I created a Virtual Drive of 1.3TB capacity. Success!! It seems to work fine.... Even I do not have a Storage-Controller supporting JBOD directly, I was able to create a Tiered Storage Space!!
Now where's the problem? Fine-Tuning the LSI-Raid-Controller Settings and the resulting
    Disk Performance....
    1) LSI-Raid-Controller: Virtual Drive Properties: What should I choose? Read Policy (Ahead or no) / Write Policy (Write Back with BBU or Write Through) / IO Policy (Direct IO or cached IO) / Disk Cache Policy (enable or disabled or unchanged)
/ Stripe Size (256 KB or ??). Do these settings conflict with the Windows Server Storage Space Layout?
    2) Windows Server Disk Management (under "Disk XY"):  Write Cache Policy? (activate Write Cache on this Device)
    3) Windows Server Device Manager (under "Drives" - Microsoft Storage Space Device):  Write Cache Policy? (activate Write Cache on this Device)
    4) Performance - Results with Crystal Disk Mark: the inital Results after setting up the Storage were quite good (Seq R: 550 MB/s and W: 590 MB/s //  512K R: 490MB/s and W: 618 MB/s // 4K R: 18MB/s and W: 37 MB/s  //  4KQD32
    R:270 MB/s and W:37 MB/S) But 2 months later the values dropped to: Seq R: 290 MB/s and W: 170 MB/s //  512K R: 120MB/s and W: 239 MB/s // 4K R: 1.5MB/s and W: 31 MB/s  //  4KQD32 R: 9 MB/s and W: 71 MB/S). Huge loss of performance
    - SSD full?
    5) Since this is a Hyper-V Server I put some VMs on it. The Performance within the VMs has also dropped accordingly. Are there any
best practices when placing VHDX-Files on  a Tired Storage Space? I could of course assign one or two VHDX-Files directly to the SSD Tier, but actually I don't want that because that would use too much SSD-Space.
    Any Experts on this Subject?
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
For the settings of the Raid Controller, it is better to confirm with manufacturer for detailed information. As you said these settings will affect with storage space settings.
From the description you set the 6 disks as 6 RAID0 groups. Is it supported to leave these disks as JBOD and directly add them into a storage space? If Raid settings will affect storage space performance, this could help us avoiding the RAID settings.
As data is already written onto the virtual disk, we may not available to recreate it. You could have a try with following PowerShell cmdlet to see if it will work better after optimize.
    Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter X -TierOptimize

  • SATA RAID problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 ultra) & winXP x64

I entered on MSI driver dowload page, put my model, and i found out that the RAID driver for win x64 wasn't released (nforce3 ultra), but in the same page was the driver for the nforce4, so I supposed it was compatible. I made the driver disk. press F6 and he askme for the drivers, ok, i introduce BOTH drivers, he detects perefctly the SATA RAID (stripping) format the disk, copy the files and ask me for some .CATof teh raid driver that wasn't on the zip file.... omit files, reboots, completes the instalation, but on the first boot of win x64 when it's just about to show the windows screen, a bue windows, and resets the pc so fast that's unreadable.  fail safe start.. same crash.
I Installed win on an IDE and it run prefectly... In th other hand... without installing any driver the windows instalation recognices the SATA drives, but not the RAID. Maybe I just got to install the raid driver but not the SATA driver... the nforce3 driver form nvidia.com is pretty old... The real funny is that when i installed winXp x64 BETA i hadn' any problem... (winXP 64 doesn't admit the 32 bit driver=
Which driver i'm supposed to install? to INSTALL winxp64 on a SATA RAID and make it boot from there?
    Thaks a lot

HI! i'm the one wih the raid problem on a k8n neo2....
That's what a i Did.. i unpacked the exe and copy the files in a floppy... question is: if i do that, windows instaler askme for some files that aren't in the .exe, anway it reconices the raid and everithing goes fine until the first BOOT on windos... it shows a blue screen, butremoves it so fast that i cant read it or pause the system. But i know it's a raid problem because if i install it on a ide disk it works.
The nforce3 drivers are almost a year old, and i'm not sure if nforce4 is compatible...
I think the're compatible because if you enter in msi driver download page and select my model, they put the Nforce3 and nforce4 for win64 and my model is only nforce3. The thing is they havent released the nforce3 for WIN 64.... So.. It's normal that win asks me for some files that ain't in the .zip file (i extracted the files o course) and Which driver should i put the Nvidia one year old nforce3 or the new nforce4. (the nforce3 for 32 bits is rejected by windows) or... i have to wait the new nforce3?
    thanks for helps

  • Xserve LSI Raid Card

Anyone have a Xserve with a LSI Raid Card. I bought a used card and having issues with installing it. Wanted to know if your raid card had any of the J(n) ports jumpered.
    Thanks

that seems to be the next step here: find or purchase a new card to test the existing drives.
i had wondered if these cards aren't compatible with the 750 gb drives. does anyone know?
also, would a bad battery cause such craziness? does the battery keep read/write cache data on the 64mb on-card memory for just this purpose? i haven't found much documentation on the apple branded cards.
    thanks for your help.

  • P6N Hardware raid problems (sata 6,7)

I didn't find the sig things which i find odd but anyway...
    here my rig
    P6n Diamond
    2 asus 8800gts in sli
    i have 4 HDD WD 200 gigs sata2
(will go into detail about those lovely HDDS)
    dvd burning sata (currently unplug)
    dvd rom IDE plug in
    2 gigs of ram 4x512
    core duo 2.66 ghz
OK here the problem i wanted 4 HDDS in raid 0 or raid 1 or the 1+0 since i got 4 ... works GREAT fast machines until something went wrong which blew out my original 4 gigs ram 4x1 gig ram sticks and no matter what ram i put in it did not work...sent it in for RMA got it back ever since i got it back RAID BEEN ACTING UP!!! my raid would FAIL in 1+0(i assume it means stripeing and mirroring) and 0 my desktop would hang for a few moments doing gaming regular uses email internet music video uses OR IDLEING after it recovers i get a balloon saying that access fail er to X.X.M drive it use to be one drive now when one acts up the other three follows it examples that was in raid 0 and 1+0 same issues once in a blue moon wait that everyday when i have it in raid 1+0 i found a brand new harddrive in my computer the raid had degraded ? what that means well i know what but HOW ? how did it degraded? so i rebuild the array and geese what compleat fail er it dies and i loose all my stuff on it...now be for someone comes in such as MSI saying that my HDD may be at fault it not...infact it is currently in raid 0 just 2 of them on my other desktop working great and the BEST PART it is FASTER on the P6N i get 200MB burst and when it was in raid 0 i get like 120 continuous read and in raid 1+0 i believe half that speed or 90mbs in the older desktop i get 330mb BURST and i forgot what i got for continuous ready again probably 90 and it is stable plus i ran forever hour es test on the HDD surface scans errors and such and it in 100% good shape and ready to rock....so you guys know the HDDS were in sata 1-4 sata 5 was my dvd burner and 6-7 blank....so i was using the SOFTWARE raid and it not doing so well at all i did try using 2 drives i didn't do a proper test yet but i think it also failed...so seeing that I'm having allot of software raid problems decided to get from bad to worse i cant get anywhere with it so here the new set up now...
2 hdds ONLY and PHYSICALY installed since the other 2 are in the other computer i have an IDE dvd rom plug  and drive 1 and 4 are plug into the sata 6 and 7 the black and red sata heads...NO BLUE LIGHTS AT ALL NEVER SEEN A BLUE LIGHT... as we know Jp1 and JP2 i think ? there are 4 pins there are 4 possible ways to set that up i tryed all four and no blue lights not even a blink i look close I CANT FIND THE LIGHT PHYSICALLY INSTALLED or i dint recognize it ( i hope i am being blind) what i mean there four ways i tryed jumping one pin from jp1 to jp2 instead of two pins on jp1 and i even put 2 jumpers on both jp1 and 2 and both jumpers the other way from jp1 pin two jp2 pin actually that 6 ways my bad no blue lights...
the BIOS is set to IDE didn't work in raid as i read from other places if things go well light come on and the BIOS sees it as a single drive which means no floppy to installed 3rd party drives AWESOME!!! cant get it working :( .. it not detecting it at all it saying i have NO HDDS installed at all
i sent the board in for a second rma..guess what they did they pulled it out and put it in a box and send it right back to me....the moment it got there i get an email saying it being shiped back and i was like oh nice they replace it...they didn't TOUCH it...so I'm calling them up the next day...to find out why they did that and to try to set up the SIL raid....
now what I'm asking is in case MSI don't help how you guys get yours to work or tell me how to get it working ....and if the HARDWARE raid is a pain then why is my raid failing too much in software raid dose anyone know how to keep the raid alive in software ? i originally wanted software so it supports 4 drives but it failing so I'm dropping it to two drives in the hardware raid and i cant get it to even w/e it is it need to do....any thing will help right now I'm stump i went to this forum spent all day looking through it and tryed some stuff no luck :(
I'm using an ASUS board on my older desktop for 2 years straight more or less it still in raid 0 NO ERRORS it is sata1 that the HDD only maxi um speed with 2 sata1 in raid 0 it acts like 1 sata2 drive and i never had to reinstalled my OS for 2 years and it gets better the ORGINAL motherboard for that old desktop was an MSI and right now that original board is on my self causes a lil device fryed ( don't think it msi fault but got fed up with that board with allot of bugs it was a NEO F or something really old lol....
    awesome a spell checker :D

i dont know how two memory stick whould make a diffrent but to answer your question no i havent the goal is to have all 4 sticks and yes they work great i put them in my old system as well and was able to see incrase of performance even though it two gigs all my other hardwares are working find cause when the mainboard was sent in for repaires i move some parts over so i can play SOME games while i wait...now for the power supply it has MORE then enough power it is a 1200 watt thermaltake with 4 12v rails 2 are 20 amps and the other 2 or 36 amps.. 5v rail is 30 or more but the 12 v rail are acurate i was studding it so i can properly connect the 36 amp to my video cards all power cord are plug in like i said all hardwares are working fine causes they were tested befor and none of them were at faults..
however i will try the memtest86 now dose it need to have an OS installed (dont have it causes it wont see my HDDS in sata 6 and 7) i have to head out in a bit but when i come back ill check it out causes the orginal rams were working find and everythign was happy untill the motherboard blew out and took out 4 ram sticks so i brought a new one from a diffrent brand wich fell into the compatible list of ram for this board the other one was not "comptiable" thank you be back shortly...
i forgot to mention befor i whould like a good list of directions beside the one in my manuel of how to set up the sata 6 and 7 raid if wores come to wores im going to back up my old HDDS wich have been working great and move it over to the HARDWARE raid and see if it works i will post what i find out but in the mean time the proper set up of the raid hardware will be nice in case i did something wrong thank you

  • NEO4 Plat Sli SIL3231 Raid problem - Can't boot after BIOS Flash!

Hi, I have and Neo4 Platinum SLI. I had "the problem" a while back with the nVida raid where there was a hang on shutdown. I then created a RAID0 using my two Rators on the SIL3132 controller, and have three hitachi drives hooked up to SATA1 - SATA3. Back then, I had trouble getting my SIL3132 array to be the main boot volume. I could boot when no other drives were attached, but as soon as I attached them, I get the boot disk error after post. Somehow I got it to work, but not think this time, I flashed the BIOS and ran into the same problems, as the BIOS got reset.
First, I went in and re-enabled RAID on the sil3132 controller, and change the boot order to have the RAID voluime be the first boot device, and my other drivers be the next on down the line. Upon rebooting, my system hangs after verifying DMI pool at a blanksscreen for 5 - 10 minutes then gives my the "missing HAL.dll error". if I go back into the BIOS and disable SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 my computer boots just fine. I even completley disconnected my three drives an my system boots just fine. I have searched these forums and could not find anything close to my issue and wondered if it is something I am just missing in the setup. I will say that at POST my IDE devices has always read:
    IDE Primary Master [None]
    IDE Secondary Master [None]
IDE Primary Slave (my first DVD/R drive)
IDE Secondary Slave (My second DVD/R drive)
IDE Third Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fourth Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fifth Master (a 250gb drive)
    IDE Sixth Master [None]
Is this normal? all my hard drives are SATA. the raptors and three SATAII drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the Nvida raid problem seems to have been fixed (as far as I read) I would like to go back to using the nVidia raid controller. I just need to back up my system first!
    Thanks in advance.

    Jkmet,
I have noted the same problem, with a USB Pen drive.
If I leave it plugged in and shut down, the next time I cold boot it tries to boot for the pen drive.  What I found out the any time you add a drive before booting the BIOS places it at the top of the Hard Drive Priority list making it the boot drive.  Same thing happens when I plug in a new SATA and does not mater where it is connected.  So, what I have to do any time you add a drive with the power off you have to boot to BIOS reset the Hard drive priority list, then save, exit and reboot to boot from you windows drive.
I am sure this is a BIOS Bug, but MSI states that the way it should would work.

  • TD340 LSI RAID unable to "Changing A Virtual Drive Configuration"

    Hello Everyone,
I'm a small business owner that has recently purchased a TD340 70B7-002RUX. I was hoping to originally install my win2012 OS on a single SSD, and then later (so as to spread out the cost of the server), purchase a second SSD and then mirror them. I'm running into difficulties...
Here is a link to the a manual for MegaRAID Software from the Lenovo site that I have installed in windows that applies to my server: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkservers/megaraid_swug_en.pdf
On page 314/445 it discusses "Changing A Virtual Drive Configuration". That is the process I need to complete, but the options are not available for me. When I right click the virtual drive icon the menu does not pop up. This is going to be for one of two reasons:
#1) I need to purchase the upgrade key for my raid controller to unlock that option:
ThinkServer RAID 300 Upgrade Key for Advanced RAID
    Part # 0A89422
    List Price $69.99 CAD
#2) That feature is not available with the onboard RAID 300 controller in my server and I would have to buy a 500 or 700 series raid card.
If anyone knows definitively which is the case I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thanks in advance!
    ML

  • K9A2 CF cold boot and RAID problem

    Hi,
I am struggling with my mobo regarding recent cold boot issues and the problem to set up RAID on the SB600 chipset.
    Here's my rig's description:
MSI K9A2 CF rev 2 (I believe because of the red heatsink) with the latest available bios flashed using the forum's tool.
Phenom 9850 BE (stock, never OCed) cooled down with Asetek closed-circuit watercooling.
    2x Radeon 4850 1 Gb crossfire
4 Gigs of RAM (Nandya Technology)
HDD WD velociraptor 150 go, WD black caviar 640 go, 2x WD 1 To green caviar all drives are SATA-2
1 PCI SiI 3512 sata controller for the sata ODD drives (DVD + DVD burner)
    PSU is advent 750 W
OS: Vista 64 bits home premium working with AHCI drivers
So here is the deal: the system has been running fine for about a year.
I recently bought two 1 To HDD to set up a RAID 1 for backup purpose. The goal is to run the velociraptor as system disk (which it is currently) in raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone), the WD 640 go as data disk raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone) and the two 1To as raid one array from the SB600 onboard controller.
So I flashed the bios to make sure I would have the latest raid rom. The flash was performed with the forum's flasher without a problem, followed by a load defaults and a clear CMOS to be on the safe side.
Since then, I have random cold boot problems. I fire it up, all leds and drives are on, but no post and nothing on screen, not to mention no beeps whatsoever. I already checked the connections, mobo condensators... everything looks ok. The system was bought pre-built and was working flawlessly beforehand. I need to power it off manually and restart it once to a few times and then it post and boots to the OS without a problem.
Is there any specific option I should look for in the bios to change that? I assume I might have made a wrong configuration at some point.
Concerning the RAID problem I cannot access the SB600 onboard Fastbuild utility as long as the PCI sata controller is plugged in --> I get the "Not enough space to load PCI rom" error message. Without the PCI card I can access Fastbuild and define arrays without a glitch. But if I disconnect the card, I no longer have optical drives
Does anyone have a clue how to use the SB600 in raid mode along with a PCI sata controller?
Also, when RAID is setup, arrays defined and all HDDs recognized by the bios, is there a way to make Vista load the raid driver without reinstalling from scratch? For now I can use SATA drives in AHCI mode but get a BSOD whenever I try booting from RAID.
I know that's a lot of questions but I could really use some help. I have been roaming the web and could not find anything.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
    Cheers

This is common problem with boot-roms, the BIOS can't handle multiple of them, only 1 if you use raid.
So disable the PCI-Sata bootrom or disable the RAID.
This is a BIOS limitation, nothing you can do about it.
AHCI is a type of RAID also.
What you see is normal, the BIOS doesn't have enough hooks to put a Boot-rom in, and exspecially the RAID MUST need one to function.
Other solution is to use Windows software raid and put the RAID controller in normal-mode.
You won't notice the speed difference anyway as the onboard is a soft-raid as well, but then done in the BIOS, however in both cases it's the CPU that must handle them.

  • Raid problem on Neo2 Platinum

Have just bougtht a Neo2 Platinum.
Have also bought 2 x WD 80 Gb SATA HD, because I want to run Raid 0
In the bios I enable Raid on both chanel 1, 2, 3 and 4 and in the Bios it detects the hd. But when I leave the bios and push F10 to go into the Raid configurations it detects the drivers, but freezes up and I can do nothing. It shovs Mirrored in the menu, and the 2 hd in the "add" colum.
    Any input would be appriciatet.

  • PE 2850 LSI / RAID controller problem

    Dear everyone,
I would like to ask You for a an advice - recently i bought, what it seemed to be a working PowerEdge 2850 server.
Since I've never got into working with Dell servers, I've learned trough YT videos that my server should give me at least Ctrl+M menu in order to access Configuration Utility of RAID controller - but I does not ... Only option I get is Ctrl+E which gives me nothing ... So I skipped the settings and went directly for OS installation.
I tried installing all sorts of OS to it (2003 / 2008 / 2012), but even though I've provided correct drivers on Floppy / USB thumb drive - OS reported there is no space on the destination HDD or it can not be initialized (please see attached image).
I even called the guy I bought it from, and he told me that he updated all the firmwares before he sold the server - and that he also finds strange that there is no regular Ctrl+M shortcut.
He told me that he remembers one firmware update utility with a  blue GUI that asked him something about HDD controller and RAID before updating - but he does not recall which one is it :(
    Please advise.
    Thank You all!

    nexus.so
The thing is ... when i get to BIOS there is no more RAID as an option to pick ... only Disabled or SCSI ... that is the problem unfortunately - even though there is a RAID key clearly marked on the chassis and beneath it a key plugged into the motherboard ....
If RAID is not an option, that means that the RAID components are not present. IF the RAID components (ALL THREE - battery, memory, key) are in the system, then they are not functioning (it may also mean the riser board is not working).
You can install an OS without it, but if you want to try to get RAID working, you can try: power off and unplug, remove RAID battery, remove RAID memory, remove RAID key, remove riser board, insert riser board, insert RAID key, insert RAID memory, insert RAID battery. power on and boot to BIOS to see if you have the option to enable RAID. If not, you will need to replace hardware, starting with the riser board and RAID key.
If you want to try to install in SCSI mode, use this driver:

Pxe boot works but i minboot not able to find raid-5 disks which is about 1.2 TB disks size. Where as if i used DVD to boot the servers it works properly. What i am missing. Here is my pxe entry and menu.list<mac-address> entry. I tried to insert driver LSI megraid driver with x86.miniroot, but it's already available into kernel/drv.

    Hi.
    Read thread:
    X4x70 (M1) with extremely slow disk I/O
Try workaround the problem by adding the following line to /etc/system and then reboot:
    set idle_cpu_no_deep_c = 1

  • RAID Problems: ESXI 5.5 on TD340 Server

Hello all, I am trying to set up a very simple (relative to ESXi) installation of ESXi 5.5 on a single Lenovo TD340 server.  The problem I am encountering is that, though ESXi will install, it proceeds to fail to boot.  My specs are as follows: RAID 0 (yep, you read that right.  Single 2TB SAS hard drive, not going to be used in a production enterprise environment)56 GB of RAMESXi 5.5, ESXi 5.5U1, and ESXi 5.5U2 are all availableLSI MegaRAID Software RAID BIOS Version SCU.1108131348RWhen I insert the ESXi installation CD, it reads the hard drive with no problem and all of the RAM as well.  In fact, it installs without a hitch whatsoever.  The problem occurs upon reboot, when it actually seems to completely lose the previously configured RAID 0 virtual disk.  The hard disk is still seen as plugged in but as if there was never any configuration made; the drive basically becomes unbootable. I have used the Easy Setup CD and noticed that it lists the LSI OB SAS Raid 300 controller as being unsupported for ESXi 5.5. Is this the root of my problem?  Is there a way to fix this?  For instance:
Would this driver solve my problem with a custom ESXi CD?
    LSI VMware Drivers
Should I just break down and use either a USB drive to boot ESXi or install a SATA hard drive? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    vcwise-zach,
I apologize for the issues you are having running VMware.

  • MSI KT3 ultra aru Western Digital 200GB raid problem

    Hi!
    This is what I've got.
    KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E)
    AMD 2000+
256 MB 333mhz RAM (AMD Compatible)
Seagate ST330630A 30GB (an old drive)
    Maxtor 6L080J4 80GB
    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 6Y080L0 80Gb 7200rpm 2Mb UDMA133 Fluid IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD1800JB 180Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD2000JB 200Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
    Promise 100 IDE-controller
    Creative Geforce MX 440
    Lite-on LTR-40125W
    NEC ND-1300 DVD
    And the configuration:
    IDE1: Seagate (Master)
    IDE2: WD1800BG (Cabel Select)
IDE3(Raid1): Maxtor 6LO80J4 (Master) and Maxtor 6Y080L0 (Slave) raided as an single drive
    IDE4(Raid2): WD2000JB (Cable Select)
    IDE5(IDE-controller1):
    IDE6(IDE-controller2): NEC ND-1300 (Master) and Lite-on LTR-40125W (Slave)
    And the Software:
I've updated all the software drivers so I've got the newest and I'm currently runnign Win2k SP3 with almost every patch installed on it.
    And finally the problem:
When I've hook my WD2000JB to the on-board raid everything seems to be working normaly. The bios finds the drive and makes a new array. Win2k boots up and finds the drive and I can create an partition. But when I've try to format it it the computer starts to freeze for a while and then acts like normal again. The HDD-led blinks as it should during the "normal" time, but when the comp. freezes it stops blinking. The formatation stops at 7% and the HDD-led stops lighting. I don't get an error eventhough it was several hours since it stoped. And the formatation takes like 30min for 1%.
When I connect the WD2000JB to the IDE3 I can format it and it acts just like normal. I even did a full system test with the System tool found on Western Digitals support site and it didn't find any errors. But when move it to the raid-IDE the errors return. I've get Error reading / writing to disk and when I've did a chkdsk I've got the "Coudn't use Device) so I did a scandisk and it found very very many errors so it completly ereased everything that was on it.
And when I've run Western Digitals program again i've get an error (Disk error read/writing) error code: 0113.
Can it be that the Western Disk doesn't work well with Raid? I've haven't heard anything about that, so...
    Best regars,
    Mathias

You can have a look at my hardware below...

    Mainboard: MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1800+

    DVD/CD-RW Combo: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120B
    Floppy: Panasonic 1.44MB
    HD: Quantum Fireball Plus/AS 30.0GB UDMA 100
    Keyboard: Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro
    Monitor: KDS Visual Sensations VS-190
Mouse: Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical
    NICs: 3Com 3C900B / DLink DFE-530TX
RAM: Micron DDR 266MHz (2x256MB DIMMs)
    Sound: Avance AC'97 Audio
I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.
Check your PSU and your bus speed settings...
