V210 hangs after "Hardware Watchdog Enabled" on boot

Hello,
as I wrote in the subject my SUN V210 hangs after "Hardware Watchdog Enabled" on boot. If I want to shutdown the system with the "power button" I am getting the message "WARNING: Failed to shut down the system!"..
This failure occures after I mounted the harddisk in another hardware enviroment.
I am administrating the SUN temporarily over a HyperTerminal connection to the serial management port.
What could the reason of this problem, and did someone know what I could do?
Thanks and Best Regards

Hi,
now I booted the system with one Solaris cdrom in the single user mode.
First I try a fsck:
# fsck -F ufs -o b=32 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
Alternate super block location: 32.
** /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (NO WRITE)
BAD SUPER BLOCK: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG
USE AN ALTERNATE SUPER-BLOCK TO SUPPLY NEEDED INFORMATION;
eg. fsck [-F ufs] -o b=# [special ...]
where # is the alternate super block. SEE fsck_ufs(1M).So I try to find the next superblock.
# newfs -N /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
mkfs: bad value for size: 640 must be between 1024 and 640
mkfs: size reset to default 640
Warning: inode blocks/cyl group (42) >= data blocks (40) in last
cylinder group. This implies 640 sector(s) cannot be allocated.
/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0:     0 sectors in 0 cylinders of 1 tracks, 640 sectors
        0.0MB in 0 cyl groups (16 c/g, 5.00MB/g, 2432 i/g)
super-block backups (for fsck -F ufs -o b=#) at:But I did not get an alternative super-block no..
Did I have another chance?
To run installboot just for kicks. What do you mean with this?
To reinstall the bootblock with:
installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0

  • Flash player hanging with hardware acceleration enabled

I'm having the following problem: The Flash player is working fine for some apparently random period of time, then it hangs when it is starting up in order to display a video.  This appears to happen only when hardware acceleration is enabled.  (I have not noticed any problems with hardware acceleration disabled, but I only discovered 24 hours ago that this helped.).  The hang happens under all web browsers (Firefox reports that the Flash player crashed, but it is actually hung on start up, not crashed).  After a hang occurs, trying to view any other Flash video also hangs, and all other programs that attempt to access the video card like Windows Media Player also hang.  The only way to reset things and get video working again is to reboot the machine.
I suspect the problem is either the Flash player or the machine's graphics driver.  I'm running Flash Player WIN 10,1,53,64 under Windows 7 64 on an Intel Core i5 machine with Intel GMA HD graphics, driver version 8.15.10.2025.
BTW, is there anyway to permanently disable Flash's use of hardware acceleration? (if I disable, the setting doesn't seem to want to stay)

Thanks.  The computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad T510.  Intel's utility reports:

I had no clue what PXE is, so I looked it up:

  • Satellite L840/020 - Cannot enter BIOS after enabling fast boot option

I have a Toshiba L840/020 (PSK8LA-020007) notebook. I recently installed an Intel 330 Series SSD and Windows 8 Pro RTM 6.2.9200 MSDNAA on it and enabled Fast boot option in the BIOS (Boot speed > Fast).
Now I can not get into the BIOS no matter what I do. I tried pressing power button while holding down F2 (as suggested by few other forums) , up on failing that I tried all F keys and Esc, but nothing works. I also tried repeatedly pressing F2 while booting, connected an external USB keyboard and pressed F2 on that , but no matter what I do I cannot get into the BIOS.
When I go to Download section of Toshiba support > Windows 8 64bit, I can also see a BIOS update for my notebook, but when I try to install that I get the following error :
    Error
    Flash process will be terminated!
Current platform have secure boot feature, it must provide NV storage location by IHISI interface.
Please contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the feature.
Without this IHISI interface, the authenticate variables will be modified or cleared by flash process.
If you understand the risk and still want to flash.
You can add the following setting in platform.ini to ignore error.
    [EngineeringErrorDisable]
    SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck=1
    OK
I didnt change platform.ini and flash, without first seeking help from the community.
Please let me know how to get into the BIOS. Thanks.

    Hi
Try firstly INS button and then F2 button.
Then you should be able to access the BIOS I recommend disabling the fast boot in the BIOS if you could successfully enter the BIOS.
    Regarding the BIOS update.
I checked the Toshiba AU driver page and it seems that the BIOS v6.20 is the same like for Win 7.
I think that the BIOS update should be done running the Toshiba preinstalled system since Win 8 is not officially on the market yet and from my knowledge there are some big restrictions updating the BIOS running Win 8

  • After pacman -Syu upgrade xfce boots black screen cursor

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded the system with pacman -Syu and it seem something has gone wrong with new xfce 4.12. I have changed DM from slim to lxdm and can only boot to openbox but not xfce. I also switch to tty2 and try a startx with ~/.xinitrc file with exec startxfce4 but it does not launch properly. What I mean is both the display manager and a startx boots me into a black screen with a cursor when i try to launch xfce. Again I can boot to openbox just fine. I've searched for similar topics but cant seem to find any solution. Can anyone help?

Ok i get that. Here is xorg log and journalctl -b log. I rebooted tried to login through lxdm and got the cursor and blank screen. I then tty3 and startx and launched into openbox to post these results. Still cannot get into xfce as normal user. Thoughts???

  • Powerbook G4 hangs after few minutes of usage

    Since February 06 I have a PB G4: 1.67GHZ, model Powerbook5,8
Since this weekend it hangs after a few minutes of usage.
I tried a whole load of possible solutions, like resetting the RAM, removing the battery and holding the powerbutton for 5 seconds...I even held it once for half a minute, but that didn't help. Checking the harddrive with disk utility (tried it often, but only once did the PB work long enough to get the end result: hard drive is healthy).
Often, when it hangs, I can get it to work by simply turning it off and on again. That gives me another window of 2 minutes of usage! Handy throughout the day when I need a file, or a document: I simply boot the machine, get the file and shut it down.
Carbon copy to an external HD does not work: the system hangs a few minutes after copying.
I installed a utility named applejack, and the first time I tried it, I got an interesting error: there were errors with the USB controller or USB bus, and system hangs. I didn't make a screenshot so this is out of the top of my head.
This was interesting because when I tried to make a HD copy (and believe me: I tried lots and lots of times), the system freezes first, and then an error about not unmounting a device popped into the screen. As if the touchpad, keyboards, and all other i/o devices stop working, and the system goes on for a few seconds more.
Sometimes the system just hangs, sometimes I get that black kernel panic screen.
Just before writing this, I tried the hardware test on the install CD once more:
Held down the option key, chose the hardware test -> quick test and..
system hangs after completion of the test
A message appeared in the bottom-left corner. Several lines of information, starting with:
"ERROR, Write to location ZERO detected!!, Loc zero was originally zero
    Current File: Localization/en/Scripts/enAHTscript.sc"
    etc
I live on a nice island in the Caribbean, so popping into the nearest Apple store means getting on a flight to Miami first.
What -if any- are my options? Is there something I can try to do myself before shipping it to Apple? Opening the case, checking this or that?
By the way, I originally posted this in the Titanium folder, but someone mentioned that I might actually have a Aluminum PB.

    hi joeuu,
I have 1.5GB mem: one 512 stick and one 1GB and I already tried the sticks one at a time: it hangs with the original 512, it hangs with the 1GB and it hangs with them together in both possible slot settings.
I managed to copy the panic.log in /Library/Logs/ and here it is:

I see in here "AppleUSBTrackpad" and "AppleUSBOHCI".
Referring to my original post: I have seen an error (a few days ago, when working with applejack) that also mentioned USB.
I'm very afraid that this is a hardware issue. Reading through some other posts, I saw something about a ribbon that gave problems. What are your thoughts?

  • Fresh install of solaris 10 x86 hangs after 'Configuring devices'

    Hi All,
I just received a new SuperMicro server with an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i controller. While trying to install Solaris 10 it hangs after "Configuring devices". I checked the LSI page and Solaris 10 is supported according to them. Any ideas how to proceed?
Fairly new to Solaris on x86 hardware.
The system has a Xeon X5690 processor in an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC motherboard. The motherboard documents claim that not disabling usb 2.0 can hang an install. I have disabled the usb 2.0 in the bios but the system still hangs. Booting it with the -kd and -kv options don't give much information.
Any help is appreciated. I might be returning these machines if I can't get this worked out.
    Cheers,
    Steve

See if you can add the verbose option "-v" to the kernel boot options. I think you can get to the GRUB menu off the Solaris 10 install disk. That should tell you what device is causing the hang, or at least the last device that worked.
Also, can you try Solaris 11 and see if it gets past that point? A few years ago I has a similar issue with Solaris 10 on a Dell server. Solaris 11/OpenSolaris worked fine, though. IIRC I could work around the issue if I disabled the 2nd CPU - Solaris 10 had a problem bringing up the 2nd CPU on that Dell's CPU/MB config.

  • Windows Server 2012 Hangs After a While

    Good day,
My server hangs after a while then I have to hard boot it. I get the error 'Online data retrieval occurs under all my roles. Once I reboot it then the error disappears.
    Please help!!
    Thanks,
    Mao

First of all, you would need to make sure that your server meets the hardware requirements to run Windows Server 2012 + the applications you use.
For Windows Server 2012 System Requirements, you can refer to that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303418.aspx
You can also proceed like the following:
Install available Windows Updates (To be tested first)
Install recent versions of your drivers, firmware and BIOS
    Uninstall all unused programs
    Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
    Do a clean boot
If this does not help then you can temporary disable security software in use and try again.

  • Stuck in "loop" or "hang" after login

Running a MacBook Pro with 10.5.4 and Filevault on (company policy, so turning it off isn't an option). Sometimes after I start up the computer I will get to the logon screen enter my password and the computer will hang. The background doesn't change to my user backgrounds and I need to do a hard reset.
I've tried disk repair, permissions repair, running fsck -fy in single user mode, amongst other things. Some other suggestions, like deleting preferences files don't work because FileVault is enabled.
Thoughts on other things to try?

I just had this problem and couldn't find a solution online, so for the record (I'm presuming it's too late for you) here is what worked for me.
First the symptom: upon booting I could get to the login screen with no issues. I could login to accounts that didn't have filevault enabled, but not the account with it (it would hang after login, never changing to my desktop background).
First workaround: Logged in as root and manually opened the username.sparsebundle file (under Users/.username), using the FileVault password. At this point I could see that all the files were intact, and access them. Then I got a warning from Sophos Antivirus that a file needed to be moved to the infected folder and I had to enter a password for it. After that, login worked fine. But after the next logout I had the same problem.
Final workaround: Turning off Sophos (not just the moving of files but also active scanning) solved the problem. Best guess is that Sophos is trying to move files before login and doesn't have the permission to move them to the right place but you can't see that it's needing that feedback so it just stalls indefinitely.
I note that another user with this problem also had Sophos installed (see topic "Can't login after enabling FileVault"). I only had the problem after transferring a bunch of old email to my machine (with windows viruses in some of the attachments). Of course these caused my mac no threat, but this combined with the need for a password for file movement triggered the weird behavior.

  • KT4AV MS-6712 Hang after warm reset

Alright...this one has been bugging me for quite sometime now, but I've always ignored it. I currently have an MSI board: KT4AV MS-6712.
I'm runnin the Athlon 2500+ with a gig of ram. Nothing is overclocked. When I first built the system it worked great. However now anytime I restart it from the Windows shutdown screen or even using the reset switch, the system will hang before the POST has completed and made the beep. It'll come up with all its info showing that its checked the ram and its fine and its detected the hard disks and what not... but then it just hangs. Now if you turn the system off for 1-2 minutes, then turn it back on... it fires right up. No problems at all. I've already updated the BIOS with the latest available from the MSI website. As I said before, I had always just ignored the problem because I never found the time to screw with it. But now I really want to fix this because it is annoying! Um... only other things I have in the unit hardware wise are the following:
    TDK 880N DVD Burner
    Lite-On DVD Player
    WD 30GB HDD
    WD 100GB HDD
    Radeon 9800 Pro
    Audigy 2 Gamer
    The D-bracket is also installed.
Anyone have any ideas at all!???
    Thanks for your help.

Well actually a full format and clean install of Windows was already performed recently. Also the system has already been cleaned internally. I cannot stand a dirty computer. This is done OFTEN with any machine in my house. Windows having a problem was something I considered though, since it seemed to happen anytime that you would restart from Windows. But its also when you just use the reset switch. And it hangs before the POST is completed. Which makes it seem like it SHOULD be hardware. But its weird because the computer starts up... with the POST screen...not a splash screen. And it goes through all its tests. Such as checking the ram and detecting all the devices and what not. And it gets all the way through everything. The only difference is that it beeps and then boots. It'd be a little easier if it'd hang while detecting and IDE device or whatever ya know? But it doesn't. It appears to fully complete, but it just will hang after a warm reset. I can't remember exactly when it started...it was quite a while ago. However I do not recall making ANY changes to the system when it started. It just started happening. And it used to be that you could turn it off for like 10 seconds, then back on and it'd work Great. Now it seems like you have to wait like a full minute. So I really don't know. I've tried everything I can think of. I've even reduced the unit down to its bare minimum to operate. Still the same. And like I said before I JUST flashed the BIOS like...last night. I was just thinking maybe it was something in it. Still the same. Really running out of options with it. It does work fine though, other than this little annoyance.

  • System hangs after launching P2P

    Hi,
I have just installed a K7N2 Delta MB with a 2500+ Athlon and a 3200 DDR (PQI) of 512 Mo. My OS is WinXP SP1.
Everything works very fine until I load a P2P (emule).
I had not this problem with my defunct Elite MB (with a 1800 Athlon and a 2100 DDR).
I have an ADSL connection via an ECI USB modem.
WinXP and the MB Bios and drivers are updated (using Win update and MSI Live monitor). I have also updated the VIA chipsets with VIAHyperion4in1446vp6 and updated the NVidia drivers/programs SINCE the USB host controller is an NVIDIA one (therefore the VIA USB 1.1 cannot be installed)
I have uninstalled/re-installed all my USB ports and also closed the LPT port.
The ADSL modem is connected to an hub while I have connected my optical mouse to a separate USB port (since MSI writes that the mouse consumes a lot of energy).
I have aloso enabled the USB in the Bios and even the KB USB whereas I do not have an USB KB (I had the same problem when the KB USB was not enabled).
The BIOS indicates an 100 FSB.
    What should I do?
    Thank you in advance.
(pardon my approximate English and technical languages).

    Sharp,
I have re-installed WinXP, installed the Nvidia updates (and the MSI and Win XP ones) and installed a more recent and more efficient ADSL connection driver.
However, eMule hangs after less than 1 minute with a 166 mHz as well as with a 133 mHz FSB (this means: I cannot close it with the Task Manager and I am obliged to re-boot WinXP.
Moreover, the CPU temperature climbs quickly to 60°C at 166 mHz.
I know that I could solve the temperature problem by installing a new fan. However, I am not certain that this would solve the hanging one (although one may think that it's the temperature that leads to the hanging.
I have discovered in the eMule forum that other people with other configurations encounter the same difficulties as me. Therefore, their solutions will probably not be found on this site.
    Thank you for your availability.

  • PowerBook G4 hangs after trying sleep mode

    Hello
First at beginning: my Powerbook works since nearly 5 years without any problems (2 crashs in the first year) and I had never such a problem.
Yesterday I installed the Security patch 2006-006 (the actual) and today there was a problem (I don't know if this is connected with this patch but this was the only change).
I put a CD in the DVD-Rom. This disc was not correctly mounted. after some minutes I tried to get the disc out but all (including the output knob) fails.
After that I tried to set the Powerbook in sleep mode but then it shows onlyy a black screen and only a reset let him live again. After rebooting the CD was possible to mount. The system.log shows following lines around the event:
Oct 19 07:28:12 localhost set-hostname[424]: setting hostname to voyager.
Oct 19 07:40:21 localhost kernel: IOATAController device blocking bus.
Oct 19 07:40:34 localhost last message repeated 2 times
Oct 19 07:42:10 localhost last message repeated 3 times
    Oct 19 07:42:42 localhost mDNSResponder[171]: mDNSResponder Sleeping at 1337777
Oct 19 07:42:43 localhost kernel: AppleNMI mask NMI
Jan 1 01:00:12 localhost syslogd: restart
after rebooting there is a message that teh CD was mounted correctly but there is nothing at the time the CD was inside the slot the first time:
    Oct 19 07:47:11 localhost diskarbitrationd[90]: disk1s0 cd9660 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 RoPa'sMP36 /Volumes/RoPa'sMP36
I hope anyone can tell me what thiss failure means and how to prevent (or, if it comes with the new update, to correct this ...)
    Best regards, Lefti
PowerBook G4 (Titanium)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   old Akku (new one fails with power up)

    Hi eSPee,
I tried to boot from the install disk several times already but just now once more: Held down the option key, chose the hardware test -> quick test and..system hangs after completion of the test
Have you tried running Repair Disk yet? Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen go to Installer Menu>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).

Am facing issue on my iphone 5s after updating to ios 7.1.1, every while the phone hang after lock it and cannot unlock and even cannot turn on the screen this is so annoying, kindly advice if i have to go back to the store as device still under warranty, and if its a hardware issue or software ??

    Hello HaithamOkeely,
We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • Windows 8.1 Ent eval enabled Secure Boot I think

I want to get my laptop back to its original format.
    Currently dual booting Windows7/8.1
During the installation of Windows 8.1 Enterprise evaluation it paused to say it was going to enable secure boot.  I did'nt think much of it I thought I could change it back from the bios.  Did it flash my firmware?  I checked the system status
with msinfo32.exe; was legacy mode and with powershell; secure boot not supported.  I don't have any options to disable secure boot in the bios nor from within Windows -"I know how to disable it in windows 8.1".  I can't boot a foreign
operating system, but I can boot a Microsoft OS which sounds like secure boot to me.  I want to get it back to running Windows 7 dual booting with Linux.  I use both at work and need both.  I made the mistake by loading the Eval on my primary
laptop.  I read I need to revert back to Windows 7 completely, formating and re-installing the OS.  Will this clear my secure boot simulation issue?  I have not changed the partitions or removed any O/S's.   What's the best way
    to proceed?

    Hi,
I want to explain that, Secure Boot is indepent with system, you can disable it in UEFI interface.
To disable Secure Boot, you can follow the steps below:
1.Before disabling Secure Boot, consider whether it is necessary. From time to time, your manufacturer may update the list of trusted hardware, drivers, and operating systems for your PC. To check for updates, go to Windows Update, or check your manufacturer's
    website.
2.Open the PC BIOS menu. You can often access this menu by pressing a key during the bootup sequence, such as F1, F2, F12, or Esc.
Or, from Windows, hold the Shift key while selecting Restart. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options: UEFI Firmware Settings.
3.Find the Secure Boot setting, and if possible, set it to Disabled. This option is usually in either the Security tab, the Boot tab, or the Authentication tab.
4.Save changes and exit. The PC reboots.
I found an aticle that teach how to install dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a PC with UEFI hardware:
    http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/10/11/dual-boot-windows-7-and-ubuntu-12-04-on-a-pc-with-uefi-hardware/
    Hope this helps.
