V240 cannot set admin password.

After installing a new motherboard in a V240 system, I started up the system.
It got to the SC> prompt. Now any command such as console -f
or resetsc gives me an error saying that the admin password is not set and to set it.
So I enter a password and reconfirm it.
But then when I try any other command again, it does the same thing "admin password is not set, to set it now"
I think the password I enter is valid as it contains letters and numbers and is long enough. It also doesn't tell me that its not valid. After confirming the password, the system waits for about 2 seconds and then goes back to the sc> prompt.
anybody know what the problem could be?

After switching the SCC card, I was able to set the admin password and use commands in the sc> such as poweroff/poweron.
However when I do poweron, the system says something like 'hard disk failure' for all the disks.
I don't understand why its doing this. After rebooting the machine, again i was having problem.
It got to a login prompt. I entered 'admin' but the password previously set doesn't work. I don't know anymore if its hardware or software issue.
There are no users created in the sc> because I was unable to because of the initial problem I had were the password would be accepted but wouldn't work.
This is a brand new motherboard just installed so everything is fresh (default).

  • Cannot Set MySQL Password

I recently installed the latest version of MySql. I tried to set a password in terminal using the steps shown below.
However, I get the error message below.
    Welcome to Darwin!
    [localhost:~] helpprob% alias mysql=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql
    [localhost:~] helpprob% mysql -u root -p
    Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
    [localhost:~] helpprob%
Maybe terminal wants me to type my previous sql password. If so,I don't remember what is is. I would appreciate any help.

    See the MySQL document: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/resetting-permissions.html
The document says "Log on to your system as ... the Unix root user". But on MacOSX you can't do this. Just login to your Mac as an admin user and use "sudo" to get Unix-root privilege (do not confuse with the MySQL-root privilege):
    (1) Shutdown the MySQL server
    mac$ sudo kill `cat /usr/local/mysql/data/hostname.domain.pid`
Password: (enter admin password for your Mac; not the mysql password)
(If you have the MySQL Preference Pane in "System Preferences", then you can use it to shutdown the server)
    (2) create mysql-init (as described in the document) in your home directory, and
    (3) restart the server with a special option
    mac$ sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe --init-file=$HOME/mysql-init &
    (4) delete mysql-init in your home directory.

  • T410 Intel SSD 335 Cannot Set BIOS Password

I upgraded my harddrive on my T410 to an Intel 335 SSD.  I cannot encrypt the drive in the BIOS using the harddrive password option.  After typing  the passwords the option remains "disabled".
I have the latest BIOS for the T410.
    Any ideas?--Thanks

First, make sure you have the latest BIOS on your T410. Then, if it doesn't work, I suggest that you use caution. Disk passwords do work on the T410, so there is something related to the drive that is incompatible with the way ThinkPads build and set encrypted passwords. I have never used that particular drive, so I don't know if it is a problem with Intel 520 drives in general or that particular drive. I would try the drive on another machine. If I remember correctly, the encryption scheme is the same for T400, T410, T420, T430 and other ThinkPad machines of the same vintage. You do not want to end up with an expensive drive that you can only use as a coaster.

  • Cannot set firmware password

At my company, we have a  MacBookPro8,2, running Lion v10.7.3..  We are trying to set the firmware password on it and don't seem to be able to do so.  Booting from the Recovery Partition, we choose the Firmware Password Utility, turn it on and set the password.  Upon rebooting and holding down the Alt/Option key on the keyboard, we are not presented with the lock icon, nor are we asked to enter the password we just set.  Booting back into the Recovery partition and opening the Firmware Password Utility, we must enable it again and set the password again.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?  It doesn't seem to happen on older models.  I've also performed this on a brand new Mac Mini without having any issues.

Since it's a relatively new machine, contact Apple's Express Lane..

  • MySQL Manager, cannot set MySQL password in order to connect...

I just installed the default MySQL files for the MySQL server (v4.1.13a) included with Tiger Server (v10.4.3). I was connected to the server remotely with Remote Desktop. I checked the box to allow network connections, and then briefly lost connection to the server via Remote Desktop as I was entering the password in the verify password field. Once I reestablished a connection to the server via Remote Desktop, all seemed okay. So, I tried connecting to the MySQL server with CocoMySQL (v0.5), but was refused connection. The firewall is not blocking the MySQL port. MySQL > Status shows that MySQL is running and shows root@localhost as the current user. I've tried connecting with the usernames root, admin and mysql with the password that I set in the MySQL Manager and with the passwords of the root and admin users of the server... but I cannot establish a connection via CocoMySQL. When I go to the MySQL Manager, and stop the service in order to change/ set the mysql password, but I am unable to because the verify field is not editable. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What you need to do is open the MySQL Manager in the Server folder in Applications. Click the lock to authenticate. Stop the service. Click the Allow connections box and then start the service again. That just worked for me.

  • Cannot set admin right to my user root account has STANDARD RIGHTS!

I had this common problem, my account turned to standard.
    I followed the instructions here.
I changed the root password from the install DVD, restarted.
logged in as "root", but the root user has standard rights as well!!
therefore I cannot change the rights of my user...
    any suggestions?

Wow, it looks like you went for the deluxe bugs package.
..."now I'm the adminstrator. but this didn't change the fact, that folder I'm creating ( doesn't matter where ) have "read only" rights for the admin. system has read write....
You hadn't mentioned that before, but actually that sounds like a completely different problem, one that can be caused by using "repair permissions" on a 10.5 volume while booted from a 10.4 (or earlier) disk - this might also include having used "DiskWarrior" to repair permissions (something the manufacturer advises against). Unfortunately, Apple is in the process of revising how "repair permissions" works, and the new method in 10.5 doesn't appear to be fully implemented. As a result, it does not fix this problem, which is purely a permissions issue. If this is indeed the problem, the most straightforward way to get back to a normal system is to reinstall - an "archive and install" while preserving network and user settings should be sufficient for this particular issue. If you are comfortable with the command line, it may be possible to change permissions manually - it would be necessary to attempt a permissions "repair" or "verify" under Leopard, and to record and carefully analyze the messages to determine what needs to be fixed, and how.
The "Finder" crashes are due to another bug - the GUI crashes when there are files or folders with a group ID that doesn't correspond to a group record in "DirectoryService". There are various strategies to use as workarounds: if all of the problem files have the same group ID, it is probably fastest just to create a group record for that group. If there are a number of different groups involved, doing a batch change of group from the command line might be easier. To get an ideal of what groups are involved, the following command can be used to display the various factors regulating access to a particular file or folder - try using it to survey a selection of different items exhibiting the problem:<pre>
    ls -elO /path/to/item</pre>
Copying the items to an external drive, then copying them back to a folder that does not display "(unknown)" in "Get Info" might be another strategy (but note that there have been some reports of data loss copying large amounts of data - even after the 10.5.1 update, and even copying instead of moving). Ultimately, these are just workarounds and Apple really needs to fix this sooner than later - it's getting stupid.
But actually, considering all of the different issues you are experiencing, backing up the data to an external drive (and verifying the integrity of the backup), then performing a full "erase and install" might be the one stop solution. I'm not sure about the best strategy for reimporting the data once that is done since I have never used the Apple tools and do not know how they handle ownership and permissions (what is perserved, etc.) - hopefully someone else will be able to fill in those details.
So you were bitten by the "Get Info" crash bug, a second issue caused directly by following what turned out to be bad advice in an official kb article, and had a permissions problem that couldn't be resolved using the tool that is supposed to deal with permissions problem. I'd call that a Leopard beta hat trick.

  • Caps Lock Won't Disengage - Cannot Enter Admin Password

I was using email when my Caps lock key would not longer disengage. Believing that I had hit a combination of keys that had somehow bypassed the caps lock key and locked caps, I restarted.
Restart was slow and included a grey bar scale on the bottom of the boot screen that I have not seen before.
After restart, the log on screen came up in 'Safe Boot' mode.
My password is an all lower case sequence and my caps key is still locked on restart (reboot now?)
    I can't enter my password.
    What can I do?
    What happened?

The 'shift' key was physically stuck. I was unprepared for this as I never eat or drink at the computer. But, it seems to have something in there regardless.

  • Cannot set admin after reset of ix2-dl

    Hello,
I have used the reset button on the back of my ix2-dl (latest firmware). When I connect to the web interface it asks me to authorize overwriting the data. I agree and am taken to a screen asking me to name my nas and agree to terms and conditions. Once I name and agree it asks me to setup an administrator account. I fill in the form and it returns an error "storage must be available before I can use this feature". The system then loops. I've tried resetting it again only to have the same issue. What can I do here?

    Hello jamavibu
The ix2-dl was running a 4.1.x firmware version correct?
What was the reason for the initial pin-hole reset?
Were the initial internal hard disks changed out for another drive(s)?
You may want to try booting the unit without the hard disks, then reset the unit after it fully boots and the web ui lists the "device not ready..." message.  After the reset completes, please power down the unit and insert at least one hard disk then boot up again and attempt the setup.
You might need to clean the disks in preperation for the above option in case the issue you are experiencing is due to a glitch in the portion of the firmware loaded to the hard disk on setup.
