V440 HDD replacement problem

Hi all expert out there,
I had a HDD failure on v440, and the customer want to replace the HDD online without shutdown the server, I use the Solaris command below to unconfigure the disk :-
"#cfgadm -c unconfigure c3::dsk/c3t1d0"
The command executed with no error and then I also use the command to check whether the disk is ready for remover :-
#cfgadm -al
c3::dsk/c3t1d0 unavailable connected unconfigured unknown
Status shown the disk is "unconfigured" but the OK-to-Remove LED still does not lit, I also run the "showenvironment" in the ALOM to check the status.
Disk Status Service OK2RM
HDD0 OK OFF OFF
HDD1 OK OFF OFF
HDD2 OK OFF OFF
HDD3 OK OFF OFF
The status shown OK2RM is off, what should I do now, and anyone has the same problem before, please advise, thanks.

Have you reviewed the V440 Administrative Manual?
http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/Servers/Workgroup_Servers/Sun_Fire_V440/index.html
Chapter 6 includes examples of removing mirrored disks as well as removing non-mirrored disks.
Have you used the V440's service contract and opened a support case with Tech Support?
The support engineers in Sun's Storage team would be able to give you guidance.
That's why they're on the payroll.

  • T43 HDD Replacement Problem

    Hi All,
I'm trying to upgrade my HDD to a Seagate 120 GB HDD after the apparent failure of my original drive and am trying to use the Rescue and Recovery CDs to image the drive and after going through the prompts, I get to the IBM Product Recovery screen and get the following error:
'An internal error has caused this process to fail'
Any ideas as to what is going on?  I have two sets of recovery CDs and both give the same error.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Jeff

    @jlbarker:
Are you getting the "2010 error" on initial boot? If not, how did you manage to avoid it?
All of this may have something to do with that failure of the re-install that you're attempting.
And, of course, welcome to the forum.
Good luck and let us know.

  • Apple HDD replacement program Q's

Hi guys, sorry if my questions are quite trivial but I'm afraid of messing something up that will require multiple Apple store trips and or money. Long story short I finally decided I'm going to take my iMac to my nearest Apple store to be serviced under the HDD replacement program announced last year.
But I have a few questions about the whole process and how to make sure everything goes as smooth as possible.
1- I undesrtand I have to have a Time Machine back up or HDD Clone. Some people here actually recommend not to use the latest Time Machine back up, But instead doing so from a HDD Clone. Why?
2- I know I'll be erasing the old Drive before taking the iMac for service, what's the best way to do this?
3- Do I need to take my after market bought RAM before taking the Computer for service?
4- For those of you who have already gotten their machines serviced: do they return it with Mountain Lion already installed on it?
5- After getting the machine what will it be the best option, Use Set Up Assistant or Migration Assistant, and will I get accest to that by booting up while holding
    the "C" key?

    1. My preference is to use a clone. I made a fresh clone; the tech replaced the hard drive; we booted from the clone and cloned the system back - very fast process and your machine will be in the exact same state as it was before.
    2. Boot from your new clone (or your install disk) and use Disk Utility to erase your drive (you can't erase the drive you're booted from).
    3. No.
    4. I had mine done at my home (compliments of Applecare) and instructed the tech to use one of my clones. I've heard differing reports - some say ML was installed, others said that they got it back with the original system. If you have a clone, it does not matter what they install - simply boot from the clone when you get it back, erase the drive, and clone your system back.
    5. If you use the clone method, no Migration Assistant is needed.
Edit: If you have a clone on an external drive, you simply plug in the drive, hold the Option key at boot up and choose the clone to boot from. From there, launch CarbonCopyCloner and clone your system back.

  • UCCX Server HDD replacement

    Hi all,
I have Cisco MCS-7845-H2 Server running UCCX 8.0, and now one of the HDD failed and red light on.
I bought the new HDD-7845-H2-146= from Cisco and want to replace it, please advise any procedure prior to remove it and insert the new one, according to Cisco website the Server HDD are in RAID 1 configuration, or I can just pull it out and change it online as it suppose to be HOTPLUG.
    Thanks in advanced!

The server is running UCCX 8.0 and supporting the call center IP phone system, not able to power down for HDD replacement, anyway when I look at the server again and seen like the fault light went off by itself and the HDD back to normal operation.
Will monitor closely to see whether the HDD fault come back again.
    Thanks for your help

  • Hot Code Replace Problem...

    Hi Everyone,
I am using WebLogic 10 with Eclipse. Whenever i start the server in debug mode and make two three changes in the code... WHAM.... I get the Hot Code Replace error. Is there any way so that the server can keep up with the code changes. Publishing the app again takes approx 40 mins!

Almost always this is a limitation of the JRE/JDK you are using and really
    nothing to do with Eclipse.
Try a different VM and see if you have better luck

  • Replacement second internal HDD causing problems.

About a year ago I replaced my internal 500gb HDD in my MacBookPro8,2 with a SSD drive and moved the original HDD to replace the DVD drive.
I boot Mac OSX Lion from the SSD and this has been running perfectly since then, however I am now running out of space on the 500gb drive, so I replaced it with a 750gb drive.
So I brought a western digital WD7500BPVX drive.
Then using a external drive dock, I formatted it to journaled HFS+, and then cloned the 500gb drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
When the clone was finished, I used Disk Utility to verify the disk, All Good.
I use the second drive to hold all my large media files and also a number of VMWare images, I tested these and all working.
I then put the drive into the macbook in place of the 500gb, and the fun began!
It boots up OK, but the WD disk is very slow to appear in the finder, also each folder you click on hangs with the spinning beach ball for 30 to 40 seconds.
If you keep clicking on different folders in the drive Finder eventually stops responding.
I opened up Disk Utility, tried to verifiy the disk and Disk Utility spins it wheels for a while then hangs.
I restarted and tried repairing the disk with Disk Utility but it says it can't unmount the drive.
Note, If I don't use the second drive the MacBook work fine.
So I then swapped the original 500gb drive back in, and put the WD750 drive back in the external USB dock.
I then verified the disk using Disk Utility and it passed, I have tried open files, and they work!!!
Could this be a problem because I cloned the disk rather than just copying the files??
Any ideas before I wipe the disk and start the 480gb copy again??

    I just found this at http://www.macfixit.com.au/owc-data-doubler-optical-bay-hard-drive-ssd-mounting- solution-for-macbook-and-macbook-pro-unibody-models.html
Special compatibility notes related to use of this product with 6Gb/s SSDs in the following machines:
    2011 MacBook Pro 15" (Model ID MacBookPro8,2)
    2011 MacBook Pro 17" (Model ID MacBookPro8,3)
OPTICAL BAY: The optical bay interface in these machines may either be SATA Revision 2.0 3Gb/s OR SATA Revision 3.0 6Gb/s. There is no way to specify/order this data interface with Apple, but you can confirm what interface/link speed version your optical bay offers via the Apple System Profiler.
Testing has demonstrated that Apple factory hardware does not reliably support a 6G (6Gb/s) Solid State Drive or Hard Disk Drive in the optical bay of 2011 MacBook Pros (ModeI ID8,1; 8,2; 8,3). If your OWC Data Doubler bundle comes with a 6G drive, you should ONLY install that drive in the main drive bay and utilize the Data Doubler to re-task your existing drive or install a new 3G SSD or HDD in the optical bay. PRE-2011 models can utilize a 6G drive in the optical bay, but will do so at a reduced 3G (3Gb/s) speed.
Seems like I can't use this drive as it is a 6GB/s!!!

  • Problems loading Win7 Pro after HDD replacement in DV6165CL

    Hi,
I've had a hard drive failure in a DV6165CL. I've got a new 320GB HDD installed, and the BIOS sees it OK. But when I try to load Win7 Pro - it won't boot from the O/S DVD. It'll boot from a Seagate SeaTools CD, but not the O/S DVD. Originally, this computer had XP Home on it - but since the drive failed, I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade it to Win7 Pro.
    What am I missing here?
Why won't it boot from the Win7 Pro DVD?
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Bill

    Hi,
No, it can boot from other disc that means we have to question about the DVD. Have you tried to boot the DVD using a different machine ?
    Regards.

  • HDD replaced with SSDHDD & Drive Self Test failed hardware scan by LSC

    Hello! Happy new year!
I bought a new SDDHDD instead of the HDD that came with the laptop when I bought it because it was faulty.
I want to make sure that the new drive isn't faulty when running the hardware scan using Lenovo Solution Center (LSC), I got this result code: WHD01V000-HK9V1D - Warning for the SMART Drive Self Test. However I tried testing using HD Sentinel and SeaTools but they showed no errors.
Note: I'm taking LSC seriously because it showed warnings then critical alerts before my first HDD failed so I don't want to ignore it.
Please let me know what it means and if I should worry or how to fix the problem? Or does it simply not support SDD?
Thanks for reading this long message! (Sorry)

    Hi, quocphong
It sounds like the hard drive is running okay overall, but it has some bad sectors in it. You will not be able to read or write to these sectors. That being said, I would first try running a ChkDsk on the hard drive and see if any of the sectors can be repaired. To run a ChkDsk, go to Computer and right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Navigate to the Tools tab and select the box that says Check now... This should scan the drive for errors and attempt to fix them if possible. The test can take a while, so I would do it when you will not need access to your computer.
If the test is not able to fix the errors, then I would contact Lenovo at 120-11072 (Toll Free) or +(84) 8 3521 8000 (Standard Charges Apply) and discuss a hard drive replacement with them. As for Windows, you will need to ask for recovery discs as well. Lastly, I would backup everything on the current hard drive so that it is not lost.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • How could I restore everything in Firefox having new hdd replaced and Windows reinstalled?

Due to some reasons (possibly boot sector problems/virus infection) my laptop (running Windows XP Pro) failed to boot up last week. I've replaced a new hdd and just have Windows reinstalled.
The old hdd is in place and data on it is still accessible.
Version of Firefox was 3.6.4 (continuously upgraded from 3.0 beta 2), with all defaults installed on the old hdd.
Is it possible to restore everything (bookmarks, addons, history, preferences etc) in Firefox on the new hdd by copying files/folders from the old one? And what files/folders in specific?
Thank you so much for help in advance.

I was using another PC to post the question, please disregard the firefox version and plugins information above.

  • Reconnect to TM backup after HDD replacement?

I have just got my iMac back after a warranty repair that included a replacement of the HDD. They migrated all of my applications and data from the old HDD to the new one and everything seems to be fine. However, TM wants to doesn't recognise the existing backup file and wants to do a full "first time" backup (which is a problem anyway as there isn't sufficient space on my Time Capsule).
Does anyone know whether it is possible / how to get TM to recognise the existing backup as relating to this machine?
I just worried about deleting the existing backup only to discover there is a file missing that I might have been able to restore from the "old" TM backup.
    Thanks, Brian

TM knows it's the same Mac; the problem is, it isn't the same internal HD. And no, there's no practical way to fool it into thinking it is.
If your TC isn't well over twice the size of the data on your internal HD, your only choices are to erase the TC's internal HD, or get another external HD.
You can connect a USB drive to your Time Capsule and back up to it (it will be a new backup; the old one can't be "continued" onto a different drive); or you can "archive" the TC's current contents to it, then erase the TC's internal HD and let Time Machine start over.
See the green box in #Q3 of the Using TIME MACHINE with a TIME CAPSULE *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Capsule+ forum, for instructions on doing the "archive".

  • Messages not working since HDD replacement

Hello! So my MBPr stopped booting a week ago and I had to have both fans, the motherboard, HDD, and back plate replaced.  That's done, everything works now except Messages.  I rely on messages to communicate with my team and my family, so this is a bit of an issue.  I've wandered the forums and tried many of the steps (restart, deleting plists, resetting PRAM, resetting/repairing keychain, confirming font availability, etc).  But to no avail.  When I click on the icon for Messages, it bounces in the dock, the dot indicates it is started, but the window does not appear.  If I wait perhaps 10 seconds and click it again, the window appears but is blank.  I cannot select anything from the menu (no preferences or anything) and no conversations or login prompts appear.  Please help!

    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.

  • Is 7200 RPM HDD a problem for the MAc Mini?

I need to replace my Mac-mini HDD. I purchased a Travelstar 500Gb Drive.
    It is 7200 RPM.
Will I have any problems? I understand most mac mini 2.26Ghz HDDs are 5200 RPMs.

I put one of those into my 2010 Mac Mini almost a year ago and it kicks butt on the 5400 RPM HDD.

  • HDD replacement on Satellite A60

I have an old Toshiba Satellite A60. The old 30gb Toshiba HDD (MK3025GAS) has died. I have bought a 60gb Toshiba HDD (MK602GAX) as a replacement.
My problem is that I can't get the bios to see the new drive and boot off it. The bios for the old dead disc says under 'Built in HDD = Primary IDE (1F0H/IRQ14)'. With the new HDD it says 'Built in HDD = No Drive'.
Using a cd, I have installed Ubuntu onto the new HDD. The ubuntu installation cd sees the new HDD and allows me to format it and install Ubuntu. When the installation has finished and I try to boot Ubuntu up, nothing happens and the Bios menu still shows 'Built in HDD = No Drive'.
If I run Ubuntu from a cd I can 'explore' the 60gb HDD and see all the installed Ubuntu files. I just can't boot the PC from the HDD or get the BIOS to acknowledge it's presence.
I am a bit confused and don't quite know what to do. Ideas Anyone ?

For me it sounds like compatibility problem. Unfortunately there is no public document where we can find info about all compatible HDDs.
To be honest Im really wondering why the new HDD is not recognized properly. Problem is that you cannot force notebook to recognize every HDD or RAM.
    What to do now?
I dont think that some BIOS update will help so Im afraid you must look for new or other HDD and test if this will work or not.
I presume this 60GB HDD was not new one, right?

  • Help with iPhoto migration/upgrade to Aperture, after HDD replacement and clean install.

I'm getting ready to replace the internal HDD in my iMac, and perform a clean install.
    I'm currently running:
    OS X Lion, version 10.7.5
    iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2
    After the clean install:
The latest version of OS X Mavericks
Installing a fresh version of Aperture, and *hopefully* importing all of my photos from my old iPhoto, into new Aperture (193 GB worth of photos).
What's the best (specifically: SAFEST) way to go about making sure my photos successfully import from my old HDD, and old version of iPhoto, into a new version of Aperture on what will basically be a brand new computer?  Is this just a matter of dragging and dropping the "iPhoto Library" to an external USB drive, then somehow bringing that folder into Aperture after my machine is up and running with it's new hardware and software?
Thanks in advance for your help!

From what I understand, iLife 11 comes bundled with 10.9
No  --  no version of iLfe or of iPhoto comes bundled with any OS
if I simply drag and drop my existing iPhoto library to an external drive right now (despite being a library from an old version of iPhoto), I'll be able to simply import that library into the bundled version of iPhoto 11 that'll come with my clean install of 10.9, without any corruption of image library, loss of metadata, etc...?
    Sort of
1 - the EHD must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
2 - there is no iLife '11 bundled with Mavericks (or any other OS) - you must pruchase iPhoto '11 in the App store
3 - there is no importing of anything involved - you simply drag your iPhtoo library to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto letting it upgrade the library
No corruption, lss of data or other problems - unless somethng goes wrong - which is why you need a backup before doing this - your copy on the EHD is fine - just do not open it directly - make sure you are opening a copy
