V490: rscadm: RSC firmware not respondig

Hello,
The story starts when I have instlled the RSC package on Sol 10.
I'v runt the rsc-config script.... and after the process finished I wasn't able to login on the RSC (I still can't). What ever command I'm perdorming on OS (e.g. ./rscadm version) the response is:
rscadm:  RSC firmware not respondingI've tried to reset and bellow You can find the output:

Waiting for boot protocol message...[there is some interraction with the RSC, the menu was displayed and I have tried some functions.]
I've been googling and I have found that it is possible to download firmware image to the RSC, so the next step was to do it:
./rscadm download usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/images/rscfw
rscadm: RSC did not respond during boot initializationThe download subcommand for rscadm has oprion "boot" but i couldn't find anywhere proper image :(. So If You know when it can be found I will be thankfull.
Maybe You have some other ideas how to fix it?
Regards and thanx in advance
toostrow

The error looks like corrupted firmware.
Its similar to what happened when in a moment of insanity I downloaded ALOM boot firmware into an RSC using the command /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490/rsc/rscadm
# rscadm download boot alombootfw # DONT DO THIS IT KILLS THE RSC
Its not supposed to work
Looks like it was reported to sun as a bug ...
Bug ID: 4924833Synopsis: On-line help lists boot as an option to "rscadm download"
Of course if you follow the README instructions you will not be copying ALOM firmware onto an RSC based system. They are similar hardware but not firmware compatible.
The serial output on powering up the system with the (now corrupted) rsc now looks like this and it doesn't work without replacing the RSC card.

    Where did you get the firmware from.
    The only ALOM download I'm aware of is at http://www.sun.com/servers/alom.html
    And its only supported on the following servers.
    * A Sun Fire V125 server
    * A Sun Fire V210 server
    * A Sun Fire V215 server
    * A Sun Fire V240 server
    * A Sun Fire V245 server
    * A Sun Fire V250 server
    * A Sun Fire V440 server
    * A Sun Fire V445 server
    * A Netra 210 server
    * A Netra 240 server
    * A Netra 440 server
    So its possible you've loaded an incompatible firmware.
    In which case, its likely only Sun can help you.
    Although its possible loading correct firmware would fix it.

  • Ipod 4g 8gb, with 4.2.1 firmware to 4.3 firmware not ios 5.1.1

    hi i have an ipod 4g 8gb, with 4.2.1 firmware and i wanted to update to 4.3 firmware not ios 5.1.1 because i've read in a lot of forums that it peope who upgraded to ios5 made their ipods 4g really slow. and im really worried with a limited memory such as 8gb,it will make my ipod very sluggish. so i was thinking  is there a way that i could update to ios 4.3 instead of the latest firware? thanks!

    No, Apple only allow you to update to the latest iOS. What mseems to make the iPod lag a little is the limited amount of memeory on the iPod. The 3G and 4G only have 256 MB of memory. Do not confuse with the amount of storage on the iPod. An 8 GB 4G iPod will not be any slower than a 32 or 64 GB 4G iPod.

  • Unable to update or restore Ipod due to firmware not found?

    Can anyone help me? I've had my Video Ipod for about a year and a half and have never had trouble with it until now. I can't update it to the lastest software as a message comes up Unable to update software due to firmware not being found. I tried to resort to restoring it to the original factory settings but I ran into a message that said Unable to restore ipod due to firmware not found. Has anyone else had this problem? Help!!!

  • HT201210 cannot update software firmware not compatable phone is iphone 4

    I am trying to update the software on my iphone 4 to newest software to activate my phone as a wi-fi hotspot.  I downloaded the software and updated on itunes and got the error prompt firmware not compatable update failed?  What happened????

    You have to delete the corrupt back-up so iTunes can at least back-up the current data on the iPhone and then restore it. Search these forums, there a several good posts on how to delete the corrupt back-up.

  • What does firmware not compatible mean?

    I keep getting the error message "firmware not compatible" when I go to update my ipone4s from itunes.  Has anyone else encountered this?

    I was having this same problem.  I followed a suggestion in another thread and updated directly from the phone (over WiFi) which was successful.

    Thanks.

    Please delete the following folder and try again:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
    You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders."

  • V490 default RSC login

    Hi, This have been an issue for a while. All my new Sun V490 delivery have the RSC password protected. However, noone knows the default passwd!
    RSC version 2.2.2 ()
    Please login: admin
    Please Enter password:Any idea what is the default password?

    It has been a while since this question has been asked and answered.
    There is no default password.
    What you see on console is a generic prompt that's auto-generated by the RSC circuitry.
    Read the system's documentation.
    http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/Servers/Midrange_Servers/Sun_Fire_V490/index.html
    In particular, this is described in the V490 Server Administrative Guide (doc# 817-3951).
    You need to connect by way of the serial management interface, NOT by using the RSC.
    You need to install and configure your OS through that serial interface.
    You must install the RSC software into the OS, then configure that RSC software from within the OS.
    Then and only then can you establish RSC accounts and RSC passwords.
    Then and only then will you finally be able to use the RSC for your administrative console connection.
    It's in the system documentation.
    Log a support case with Sun, to get their answers on this question.
    This is just a public discussion forum, not Sun techsupport.

  • HP Laserjet M2727nf - Firmware not loading to Printer

    My printer display was not working so I ordered a new one.  But as I read some postings it seems to be by formatter board.  I baked the formatter board.  After I baked it, the display would show: Hewitt Packard >>>>>.  I did the below
    but the firmware utility update is not going to the printer.  The display shows ***BootDimm*** Ready 2 download.
    I have left the jumper on and have taken it off to upload the firmware to the printer.  Nothing has happened.   I have not even seen the display changing to erasing firmware, then programing firmware.
    I baked the board and it started to work.  I then Download the firmware utility update for my printer.  I Removed the printer left cover. Turned the printer on while it’s was connected by usb. Jumper or short the 2 pin connector - the display read "ready to load firmware".  I heard the printer usb driver connect / initialize in windows-
    Next I started the HP firmware update utility, select your printer from drop down list.   However the display did not change to erasing firmware, then programing firmware; finally it will display "firmware rom upload complete" - or  something close to that.  The computer did do this:  the progress bar on the firmware update utility in windows completed and displayed the smiley face (about 3 min).  Then I turned the printer off - unpluged it and disconnect the usb cable from the printer. It did not load.  So where did I go wrong.

    Apple included the Gimp-Print driver "HP Laserjet 6 Series" for that printer. Does that show up?

The computer makes its usual chime, the hard-disk starts to spin for a few second, and then stops suddenly before anything is displayed on the screen (the display does not even light-up). If I press the option key after or before the chime, and keep it pressed, or the shift key, or the c key, or the t key, or the command-option-p-r key combination, or even the command-option-o-f key combination, the behavior is exactly the same: the disk starts to spin for a few second after the chime, and suddenly halts. The computer appears to shutdown on its own before the boot can even start.
    Here is the strange part: the computer boots normally if I press the command key (this key on its own is not suppose to do anything). It also works if I press the command-s or command-v key combination. No other key combination seem to work.
    Except for this strange boot behavior, the computer works flawlessly. I did not have any kernel panic for at least a year, the computer did not crash recently, everything works fine except for one small detail on which I will come back at the end.
    I've tried to fix the problem by the following actions:
    1) Clean install of Tiger with a new partitioning of the disk; I even zeroed the entire disk. This did not change anything so the problem is probably not OS related.
    2) Reset of the PMU with the four finger salute: shift-control-option-power combination. No effect except that I lost the date/time information. Hence the reset worked.
    3) Tried to reset the PRAM, but the command-option-p-r key combination does not seem to work.
    4) Tried to load the open firmware with command-option-o-f, but this does not work either.
    5) Memory seems ok. I have 1x256M of Apple RAM + 1x1G of RAM bought from OWC. I've had the OWC RAM for about a year without any problem. Anyway, I removed the 1G module and tried to boot on the 256M Apple module alone. Exact same behavior. Then I removed the Apple module and put back the 1G module. Exact same boot behavior. So the problem is not with my RAM, unless both modules have simultaneously developed a malfunction.
    6) Tried to run the Apple hardware tests. However, for my machine, these tests come on the install DVD, in a special hidden volume. To boot on this special volume, one needs to boot with the option key depressed, and to select the boot volume from the open firmware interface. But this does not work on my machine, the computer seems to shut down before this interface can be activated!
    So this problem is very strange. I can live with having to press the command key for booting my machine, but I would sure like to know what is going on here. Is the problem hardware related? Perhaps, but as I said, the machine works flawlessly except for the strange boot behavior.
    Is the problem related to firmware? I think that this is the most probable option. What do you think? Maybe, the firmware got slightly corrupted? Maybe a bit got flipped in the flash memory? Is this possible? I guess so. But, what can I do? Should I contact my friendly local repairman?! I have to admit that this option scares me a little bit for such a strange problem. I would need an Apple engineer with boot related experience/expertise!
    Now, here is a little bit of further information. I don't know if its related, but it is also very strange. I work with a dual screen configuration. Usually, I connect my screen and then I wake up the computer. Last week, I noticed that if I connect my second screen live, the system detects it automatically. I guess this is new to Tiger? Anyway, the strange behavior is that the computer then asks me if I want to sleep, restart or shutdown my pb, as if I had pressed the power button. But I did not press this button when I connected the dvi connector >:-o
    Many thank

    Hi Scott!
    Almost every time the PowerBook woke after sleep, I got the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message.
    I get this message upon wake only rarely, but every time I plug or unplug a display live.
    The strange behaviour was tolerable, so I've lived with it for several months. But then when checking out the PowerBook discussions, I read about the failing lower RAM slot problems, and just out of interest, checked out my System Profiler....
    Ok, so the good news is that my pb may continue to work for several months
    My lower RAM slot appears to be ok for now.
    Interestingly, I'm sure that the start-up problems began when I started using my PowerBook with a 23" Apple Cinema Display (a pink hued one, but that's another on-going saga) - and you too have mentioned that you use an external display, so I wonder if that's part of the cause of our start-up problems.
    Yes, I've noticed the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message just a few days before noticing the strange boot problem (not sure if the machine booted in between). I use ViewSonic displays (one at home and one at the office), and several different projectors in different class rooms. From what I read, it is plausible that there is a link between this problem and the dvi port. Could it be that the boot sequence of mb is affected by a hardware problem on the dvi port? But not when a press the command key?!
    Anyway, my machine is no longer under warranty, so I intend to live with the problem for as long as possible...
    But I've been doing more regular backups since then.
    Best wishes to you and your (almost) new machine!
    Marc.

  • [SOLVED] ALSA firmware not loading properly with kernel 3.8.6-1

    Hi All,
    I have a E-MU 1820 card + breakout box that have been working beautiful under Archlinux for years but now something happen.
    It still work OK under windows (dual boot same computer).
    Normally during boot all indicators on the breakout box blink and then only thin show is clock setting indicator. But now all the indicators still blink but instead it is a -12 dB indicator that light up and not the clock settings and no sound.
    dmesg show following.

    Thank you mich41!
    It looks like a kernel bug.
    I downgraded to 3.7.10-1 then firmware loaded OK and I could play sounds.
    Upgraded to 3.8.6-1 then the firmware fail to load.
    Something looks not ok with 3.8.6-1.
    Best regards,
    Christer

    It used to be in there (id 226635 is the last one with it); should I clean it up a bit and put it back with a bit more of a disclaimer?

  • RSC does not get files correctly + inconsistent shading issues (Viste 64 bits)

    We experience serious trouble with RH 7 update 1 on Windows
    Vista 64 bits.
    We work with a team on our software helpfile. When a member
    starts typing in a topic RH checks out the file. When the topic is
    checked-in RSC performs an undo check out and all the mutations are
    lost.
    Secondly, when we open RSC some files are yellow (shaded).
    This is an option of RSC. When we get all topics, some topics stay
    shaded. When we view differences, RSC says that the files are
    identical.
    Any help is greaty appreciated!

    AFAS ERP Software B.V.

    Adobe has confirmed (through the Dutch support team) that
    they do not support RH7 in combination with Microsoft Vista 64
    bits.
    We downgraded to 32 bits and we have a much more stable
    system.
    I just wanted to share this information for anyone
    interested.

  • 1.1.3 Firmware Not Working Correctly

    For some reason, my 1.1.3 firmware does not work. If i go in to setting and about, it says i have 1.1.3 installed, but, i do not have the wiggle function nor do i have ANY of the 1.1.3 updates. Any advice on how to fix this would be apprecited.......Oh, and got 1.1.3 by restoring and updating it...
    Thanks
    ~WADE

    To have access to all of the functions such as the new icons on the home screen and the ability to add web icons to the same screen. You need to install 1.1.3 (as you have done) but also purchase the Jaunary Update availbale through ther iTunes store.
    Hope that helps
