V6500 BIOS "not for your Notebook PC"

The HP website has a BIOS posted for my notebook that I am attempting to download and apply. However, when I download and run it, it gives me the message "This BIOS is not for your Notebook PC." What is the problem here? Is this the right file behind the link? Is there an issue with my notebook?
Here are the particulars:
System:
Compaq Presario V6500Z CTO
Windows Vista
BIOS:
sp42141.exe
F.31
The HP Health Check, Total Care Advisor, and the HP Support website all tell me to apply this BIOS file.

I have this same exact problem. It looks like any BIOS on the website for my specific model number give me the message Not for your notebook pc. It appears to automatically laucnh winflash64, but I chose Vista 32 bit. not sure if that is the issue.
I tried the firmware upgrade for the hard drive and it fails.
Tried the optical drive update and the update is not for my device

• Satellite L300 BIOS update problem: "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC"

I got Satellite L300 notebook and I want to update it's BIOS (current v1.50), so I've downloaded bios update v1.60-WIN and when I run extracted PS10160M.exe file - I get a message that "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC".
What I'm I doing wrong?
ps: that BIOS update was automatically suggested after registration on Toshiba website via serial number.
UPD: seems like autosuggestion fail: Manual search shows that 1.60-win bios update not suitable for Satellite L300 PSLBCE model. :-(

Did you download the BIOS for the PSLBCE model?
You cannot use the BIOS from other L300 models, for example PSLB0E.
If you installed Windows yourself using a generic Windows Disc, you will need to install the Value Added Package from the Toshiba website. The BIOS Update requires the TVAP package to detect the machine properly.

• New BIOS firmware for B590 Notebook (20206)

Hello.
Where can I find new BIOS firmware for B590 Notebook (model 20206)? support.lenovo.com provides an earlier version (08 Oct 2012), but I need at least the same as in the notebook now (15 Nov 2012).
Just wait for a new firmware becomes available at lenovo.com?
How can I find out when it will happen or whether happen at all?
Or at least how to save the current BIOS? Preferably by regular means. It looks like Lenovo utility can only update (and reported that the installed firmware is fresher).
Thanks.

Still nothing. Is there any hope?

• BIOS Update for nVidia GTX 550 Ti? I have a BIOS "not for production use"

Hi,
I bought a new computer about a month ago, and it all works well, but every now and then, the whole system freezes completely for 2-4 minutes, and then afterwards resumes where it was. This is extremely annoying, and it really could be anything, I don't have evidence that it's the video card, but I'm trying to get everything updated to the latest version.
When my computer boots up, I see this message:
GF116 P1050 SKU 0 VGA BIOS
MSIMV261MS.105Version 70.26.20.00.00
Engineering Release - Not for Production Use
Build Date: 02/23/11
Revision Date: 02/16/11

So, evidently this BIOS is wrong, and i'm trying to update it, but I can't find where to download an update.
Could you please point me in the right direction?
Thank you

I noticed the same thing... BUT I made 2 mistakes:
Failed to make a copy of this BIOS using GPU-Z
Updated to 1.06 via MSI Update 5 (26110.rom)
Then I read the posts on this subforum and realized my mistakes.
I'm just in the initial stages of installing software on this machine, so I haven't noticed any problems.
I saved the updated BIOS via GPU-Z and compared the hashes against the 1.06 BIOS offered by MSI on their page for this card (NV261MS.106) ==> they matched MD5: 52ECDDEFAEA86E745C09FF8A43541078
Afterburner 2.1.0 gives the following info:
Quote
Display device : GeForce GTX 550 Ti on GF116 GPU
Display driver : ForceWare 266.71
BIOS : 70.26.20.00.00
GUID : VEN_10DE&DEV_1244&SUBSYS_26101462&REV_A1&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0
My question is how badly did I mess up and what should I do now?
Thanks in advance.

• When closing multiple tabs, is there any way to get back the option of saving those tabs OR NOT for your next session, within the warning dialogue box itself?

For brief period of time, not in FF4, there was the option whereby when I closed multiple tabs, a firefox dialogue box opened warning me that I'm about to close multiple tabs, '''AND ALSO''' asking me if wanted to save those tabs for my next session, or trash them.
The primary issue IS NOT about saving tabs. The primary question here is about getting THE OPTION back to the CLOSING MULTIPLE TABS WARNING DIALOGUE.
The use case here should be obvious. However, since it is clearly not obvious that different people work in a variety of ways, and neither of those methods of working is "wrong" or "right" I will elaborate: Some people, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter why, want to save all their tabs on some occasions, and on other occasions don't.
This preference varies throughout the day. Therefore it is inefficient to constantly go to preferences and change whether or not I want firefox to open all my tabs from my last session. It is more LOGICAL to place an option in the multiple tab warning dialogue as well, for people whose preference constantly changes.
This option was available for a time in most of the Firefox 3 versions. Is there any way to get back this option in Firefox 4?

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no need for asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle the value with a double left-click.

• A useful boot CD for your notebook

I thought everyone could benefit from having one of these discs. I'd like to point you to a site, Ultimate Boot CD. This utility contains many helpful pieces of software which you can utilize to help solve computer problems. This includes diagnostics for testing the CPU, RAM, hard drives, and other hardware.
After downloading the image from the site I linked to you'll just need to burn the image to a disc. This is very simple in the later editions of Windows. Here is an article which explains how to burn a bootable disc from an ISO in Windows 7. The instructions should be almost identical for Windows 8.
I suggest that all users keep this disc on hand in case they ever need to run checks on their hardware or if your built in HP tools stop working for some reason.

• Need help finding a BIOS flash tool and BIOS updates for HP Compaq nc8230 running Windows 7

I put together this laptop. It didnt come with a hardrive, and basically I installed everything from the ground up.
It is an HP Compaq nc8230, IDE Hard drive, Windows 7 32 bit. The BIOS on it is the original one. I've searched far and wide, but to no avail, it seems there's zero support for this model anymore.
Basically it was never intended to go beyond Vista, back in 2004 when this model was introduced.
The reason I am searching for some kind of BIOS update, whether it is BIOS or SMBios is to get the ACPI driver to recognize the primary laptop battery. This is crucial: it only sees both as the travel battery. Other than that, all else is fine.

Hi:
Here is the latest BIOS update for your notebook.

You cannot use the windows based flash because you installed windows 7, so I provided the link to the DOS based flash.
You need to use a USB floppy drive for this update.
Oh, and the card reader won't work unless you install this updated driver which is not on your PC's support and driver page.

• Satellite A200-23U - Need Bios update for XP

Hi!
Where I can find BIOS update for this notebook for Windows XP?
Thanks.

> Is it possible install other similar BIOS for XP from the Toshiba American driver page? Are there some forecasts for appearance of BIOS XP update on the Toshiba European driver page?
I would not recommend installing different BIOS updates from different notebook series on the Satellite A200-23U.
The point is that a wrong BIOS or not compatible BIOS can damage the ROM module or the motherboard!!!
I would not risk this!!!
Fact is that you should update the BIOS only with the version which was designed and published especially for your notebook model.

Please read the instructions to clear the password in Chapter 1, section 1.2, page 1-4.

• Where can I find a BIOS update for Satellite A100-200 (PSAA8E)

Hello,
Where can I find a BIOS update for this model?
The BIOS on the download page is November last year, is there anything newer or does anyone know of an update that is compatible?
Thanks,
Ian

Yep, newest updates and drivers for your notebook you will find on the Toshiba download pages, as Jimi already mentioned.
Just as a little hint from my side is, that if there is nothing wrong with your notebook, just leave it as it is.
As there is the saying, never touch a running system.
So keep that in mind. ;)

• Tecra M5 BIOS not compatible with Windows Vista

Hi, I ran the Vista Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft and it reported that the BIOS on my Tecra M5 was not compatible with Vista and to contact Toshiba. I am currently running version 1.7 - the latest available I think. Is Toshiba going to release a version that will be Vista compatible, or a fix so that I can run Vista on my M5?
I forgot to mention that the machine is a UK M5 (PTM51E)
Many thanks,
David

David,
That's not the case. Whatever the results of the software advisor that you have run, you can install VISTA ok on your Tecra M5 PTM51E portable but obviously subject to you having purchased the license (full version or upgrade) from a local supplier, however, you will have to carry out a new (clean) installation of VISTA which means you would have to wipe your hard disk drive in the process. Obviously, making sure that you backup all of your data first to another system (or to external media) and be aware of the software that may/may not run correctly under VISTA before starting the process.
There's a new M5 BIOS released for your M5 which would then upgrade your existing 1.7 BIOS to the latest version.
The standard 512mb Tecra M5's run VISTA very well. No Toshiba software is available, however, maybe this will be released over time so you can adjust power settings and utilities as you can now under XPP.
After installing and registering/activating VISTA you will be prompted to install various updates (including an updated graphics driver and some patches.) Take these options and then your portable should work better. That said, even the standard VISTA installation works fine (AERO support appears to be improved on the new version plus it looks slightly more optimised and also runs a little quicker.)
If you are familiar with your portable, IT aware, and unsure of wiping your existing system totally, then you could also purchase a additional internal Toshiba SATA HDD kit for the Tecra M5 in order to try VISTA in the short time. Another internal 80gb/100gb HDD would give you the capability to try VISTA without losing all or your XP software and software/networking configurations, enabling you to move back to XPP should you have any (none-Microsoft) software or antivirus software issues stopping you from working after your installation of VISTA. I appreciate that there are costs associated but this would allow you to switch between XP and VISTA more easily (than wiping your current system, installing VISTA and then going back to XPP should any problems occur, not to mention the time savings that this could introduce !)
With VISTA, just take >>GREAT CARE<< with your software. Many (none- Microsoft) software applications have some issue(s) with VISTA because it is new. So, this may mean that you may have to purchase a software update in order to ensure that you have 100% compatibility with your favourite applications (or have to replace your existing software versions entirely with new ones.)
Strawberry.

• Correct BIOS download for Processor Upgrade

Hello Folks,
I have a t60 core duo T2300 1.66Ghz.. I want to install a T7200 Core 2 duo 2.0ghz. Do i need to update the bios? And which file on this site should i use?
Hellpppp!!

Welcome to the forum!
Your machine will likely recognize the new CPU without any BIOS update. Having said that, whatever the latest BIOS is for your T60 (7-character model number would help) should be applied anyway IMHO.
Good luck.
Cheers,

Hi:
According to the service manual for your notebook at the link below, maximum is 2 x 512 MB for 1 GB.

I would run the free Crucial Memory scanner and see what it reports. 1 GB seems pretty low for the hardware in your notebook.
